It's true about a lot of games around that time but I think Shinobi still stands the test of time and so does Golden Axe (the arcade version, not the PCE version). I just never clicked with Altered Beast. But you're right, having a 2-player option (and having someone to play with) would make this less mediocre.
#202
There's quite a few graphical changes between the regions. Nothing spectacular but I'd say the US version looks better...but not to justify the price difference.

To make it more mint he has bathed the Hucard in a tub of Extra Strong mints and let it marinate for almost six months. He also did this with the box and manual separately with new mints to make it more mint than any version ever put up for sale.

Like geise said, you're really not missing out by not having a two player version on CD. In fact, you're probably losing something by playing Altered Beast...on any system. One of Sega's worst I would say.

Maybe with inflation he might just get that 100 years from now...but now?

Well it's either Murray Mint or Trebor Extra Strong Mint...I'm betting Murray Mint.

Quote from: munchiaz on 04/10/2014, 12:15 PMawesome suggestions guys. I have played many of these already and agree with you guys. It will be nice to try out some of the SRPGs on the console, and some of the shmups that were only released in Japan.
Langrisser is one of the best SRPGs every created. It's called Warsong in the US and was the only one in the series ever released officially in English.
There are 2 on the genesis right, and then a few more on the saturn as well correct?
Yep, 2 on the Megadrive/Genesis, 3 on the Saturn/PSX (Langrisser 4 on PSX has a fan translation as well), a bastard child on the Dreamcast and a pretty good one on the Wonderswan. There is also a remake of 1 & 2 on the Saturn and PSX.

There is also Der Langrisser on the SNES and PC-FX which is a re-telling of Langrisser 2 but with multiple routes and a few other things added.

To add to the list I would say:

Phantasy Star 2 & Phantasy Star 4
Ranger-X (Ex-Ranza)
Arrow Flash
Golden Axe
Rocket Knight Adventure
Bio Hazard Battle
Gynoug

Lot's more but those are just off the top of my head that was listed in the thread (or I couldn't see from the glance I had :D)

Count me in please :D

And a few (not as many as the PCE) hardware variations in Japan such as Hi-Saturn, V-Saturn, all the different colours etc. The libraries are pretty similar as well - lots of shooters, lots of RPGs...in Japan.

Mai was (and still is) one of the more compelling reasons to put Fatal Fury/KOF into the Neo Geo. :D SNK artists really perfected the bounce animation. There's something exaggerated about it that sums up every male fantasy...

Quote from: EvilEvoIX on 03/25/2014, 11:35 PMSamurai Shodown 2 for all intents and purposes is a perfect game.  When you factor in it's cost, either AES or MVS, it's the best game on the system and my favorite as well.
This really sums it up. SamSho2 is to SNK what Street Fighter 2 is to Capcom. Fatal Fury was always looked at as a clone of SF (it's much more if you put in enough time) and SamSho2 was what set SNK apart from Capcom during the early days.

Although nostalgia will always say Real Bout Special is SNKs best :D

Cool. I'll be putting this on when I get back from work...score will probably be pathetic though. This really is an iconic PCE/TG-16 game and marked the reboot of the TG-16 in the US. Bonk was old hat to the marketers when Zonk turned up.
#215
I'm not a fan of the NGCD pads either. If I have to use a joypad for fighting games it has to be a Saturn pad. Best pad for fighting games, hands down.

For Neo-Geo fighters, I really like Real Bout Special, in my opinion the best of the Fatal Fury series.

Yokai Dochui (Tales from the Monster Path) seems to be everywhere as well.
#217
I'm loving that Kabuki Den tin. Was that released as a limited edition with the game or was it released afterwards?
#218
Anything by Haruki Murakami. Most people say to start with Norwegian Wood because it is his straightest book. I would say jump in the deep end and red Wind-up Bird Chronicles or Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. But really, anything by Murakami is worth reading more than once.

His books could really be described as sci-fi, detective story and comedy all rolled into one.

Shining Force 3 is also pretty good. Shame they didn't translate the other 2 parts, though. Oh, and Radiant Silvergun :D

Congrats on the win, it's an awesome game.

Been a happy gamer.
Some good picks there. The turtles always looked so nonchalantly cool on the Super Famicom label :D

Quote from: guest on 03/17/2014, 02:35 PMOk guys... this has motivated me to start a kickstarter.  I urge everyone to contribute to a most worthy cause.

I tried to donate but it looks like Kickstarter has taken down this most worthy project

I have a few really old CRTs that don't support NTSC. But that's the only one. All my other CRTs and LCDs support PAL and NTSC. I have no idea about PAL-M though. I thought that after a certain time TVs (in the UK at least) started supporting both, but I guess that could be wrong.
#224
Quote from: Fidde_se on 03/14/2014, 06:02 PMOld PAL tvs doesn't handle the NTSC palette and there for NTSC becomes black&white...
I always thought it was because the colour carrier frequency was different between PAL and NTSC and when an NTSC signal was received it tried to decode the colour from the wrong frequency (and so the colour signal was incorrect) and that's why it came out in black and white...
#225
If you do you get that annoying frame on the left hand side as well.
#226
It seems to happen at least once a year over there but it only ever affects the front page and not the forums...I didn't even know it had been hacked until I saw posts on other forums.

Quote from: dougal on 06/11/2013, 11:27 AMCan't i buy a cable or something ?

I saw a cool RGB box on e**y from some lad in france but its pretty pricey
That cable on ebay that connects to the EXT port is the only way to get RGB without some soldering. It is very pricey though, but if you don't want to solder and don't want to send it someone to mod it's your only option.

Because you had full colour on one your TVs I'd also say your PCE is working perfectly fine.

RGB is the way to go, though.
#228
Glad you got it working :D
#229
Cool raffle. I love this game although only borrowed from a friend :( Don't add me though please, don't have a US TG or a region free PCE. Good luck to all who entered though.
#230
Looks like a donor jobbie to ressurrect the great obey :D
#231
That's the problem with some of these old consoles, sometimes you have to have a faulty unit to take bits off of. Have you tried looking for the RAM online yet?
#232
If you're based in the UK I could take a look for you or you could just replace the RAM if you can find suitable replacements.
#233
Quote from: PikachuWarrior on 03/09/2014, 09:05 PMNot to mention the novel book is soft cover (UK CE) as opposed to hard cover in the US CE.
Another thing to add to the list...The more I hear, the more I think the UK got shafted a little...
#234
Do you have an oscilloscope or a logic probe? You'll be able to see if the RAM is at fault quite easily with either of these.
#235
I was a little disappointed with the UK CE release. Didn't have the SteelBook and the Soundtrack was on 2 MP3 CDs...the soundtrack isn't a big issue, but the SteelBook...? :-({|=
#236
It was a strange mix of nostalgia ad curiosity  I remember seeing the PC Engine (and the Supergrafx) in the UK gaming press when in the late 80s and I always remember wanting one of them because the games looked awesome and so did the machine. I didn't actually pick one up until 2000's (a duo) and started picking up all of the cool games I had seen in the magazines decades earlier.

I did eventually sell that Duo and bought another last year.
#237
They look lovely. Good job.

Quote from: BigusSchmuck on 03/02/2014, 01:14 PMOgre Battle 64 and Harvest Moon 64. Enough said.
These 2 and Yoshi's Story...I really enjoyed Yoshi's Story. There really is a small library of very god games on it and a lot of trash that needs to be skipped over.

Quote from: wildfruit on 03/02/2014, 01:21 PMI think the crease on the back of the box makes it extra minty/holy. Unless im looking at it goggle eyed
That is definitely a touched by Jesus crease, hence the price.
#240
That really doesn't make much sense. If people are still playing they should leave it on for a bit longer. I have a feeling they may extend that date a little.
#241
That's a shame. Looked like it could have been really interesting, almost like a Metroid-y game from the look of it.
#242
I live in Southampton in the UK...where it has rained constantly since 1st January. Luckily I've not been flooded so everything is still dry.

Quote from: Arjak on 02/17/2014, 02:03 PMI was actually making a reference to Pink Floyd's The Wall, one of my favorite albums.
Indeed it is a good album, but not as good as Wish You Were Here :D
#244
Wow! Hope you get it working after all that work.
#245
US games will work fine if you use your Arcade Card. Only the games with bugs won't work (ie. Altered Beast, as has already been mentioned).
#246
I'm a little sad now......hopefully it all goes well for you but like you said, the risks are pretty minimal if you paid with paypal so you should be good either way. Well done man.
#247
I got Image Fight today. For years I thought this was an awful game but playing it I know I was thinking of another game...or maybe I was just stupid as a kid :D
#248
Welcome aboard! What is your favourite genre of games? You're pretty much covered on almost every front except scrolling beat 'em ups (a la Final Fight). Personally, I would suggest Super Star Soldier, Dead Moon (I really like this shooter) and if you want punish yourself, Cyber Cross :D

I'm kinda liking the Big Red theme you have going on there. That Black and Gold reminds me of Neo Geo X for some reason...the less said about that the better

I loved the art style and the story of Alundra. I thought it was pretty good and it's definitely worth $20. With a little practice I found the jumping pretty, same story with Landstalker. Go get it man!
