CONTEST RULES:

Submit photographic evidence of your gaming feat
Don't be a dickface and photoshop/cheat.  
You can only win once, but you can enter every contest.  Secondary wins will be ignored and the person below you takes your place.

Ties will be solved by the following:
If the game also displays lives, the higher count wins
If the game doesn't display lives, I will come up with a mutually owned game and make you duke it out.  I doubt there will be ties for games besides Bonk.

I was actually planning on giving it my best shot on Bonks Adventure and The Legendary Axe this coming Sunday when I have a day off. :) Might also try Vigilante but seeing as when I played it last night I got my ass handed to me by the first boss everytime I'm guessing I don't stand a chance for that score unless zero people enter. lol

and as for Bonk, just juggle stuff til you get maxed out, and hope you can end with 15 lives instead of 14! \o/

I encourage people to enter as many of these as they can, regardless of perceived skill level. Don't give up before you even try. Hell, at the rate things are going there's a good chance you might be the ONLY one to enter and compete for any given game. That makes for pretty good odds that you'll win.

I think a number of folks are a lot more interested in the consequences of the prototypes than the prototypes themselves. This is a problem, considering the prototypes are supposed to fund what comes after.

or maybe that they aren't free? Not saying that as a negative in any way, as its funding future pce development, just as most people probably enter contests for a prize they don't have to pay for.

Oh I'm still gonna try. :) I've never beaten Bonk on my TurboGrafx, did once long ago on virtual console, this will just give me another excuse to try. :P As for the Legendary Axe I'm still definitely gonna try. :)

Understood, i wouldn't want to deal with that either. i'm actually glad you're doing it this way its a lot more fun than being the first to send a pm (plus i would be one of those "I was at work / sleeping" people :P)

And by going to high score winners at least the cards are going to people who actually play the games and not just the "hardcore i have to have everything to increase the value of my collection" type, not that we all aren't a little like that, but hopefully we're gamers before collectors.

Put Gates of Thunder up there and Bomberman and you can count me in!

I did my raffle to buy for the same reason as why Ark is doing these this way.  Everyone has a fair shot at em!

just noticed that super star soldier was added, so i played a few rounds. it has been a long time so my score is embarrassingly low, but hopefully i'll get a chance to bump it up a bit before the contest ends. if only i had the time and energy to practice a bit more...  ](*,)

OK, since I have no chance at China Warrior any longer, and I think the Bonk's Adventure score (w/lives) is as good as the best I've done, I had to try a game I don't own in physical form, so I emulated Super Star Soldier. Stupid game is hard! I managed to get a pretty good score (compared to what's already here) but I'm certain with a little practice I could do a lot better, because I screwed up on the two simul-kill bonuses and kept getting damaged before the bosses. So here's my 5-minute game top score.

Ugh... the problem with a high-score contest for Legenday Axe is that it is essentially a battle of attrition, since there is a stretch of the game that you can loop for infinite enemies/points. I decided after my last score that it would be my only effort, and I'm going to stick to that =).

I would love to see that kind of a score battle for Legendary Axe! High score on www.twingalaxies.com is 99,999,990. I don't think I have it in me- but I encourage others to give it a go.

I've never had much luck juggling them for to long. I can keep them going for a little while but not to long. :P Maybe I'll give it another shot but seeing as I tend to lose more lives then I earn I'm guessing I won't top it. lol

The best place to juggle, imo, is the level early on when you're inside the dinosaur.  Just before the first boss.  You can bonk things up against walls and get the timing down.  I think they take 17 hits before they stop giving bonuses.  If you go though that level and juggle everything, you're off to a good start. :)

The problem with Bonk's Adventure is the same as that with LA; there is a spot in the game with respawning enemies that allow you to simply max out the score counter with the juggling trick, given enough time (which is obviously what the high scorer did). Exploiting this stuff is a means to an end, but it takes essentially drains all the fun out of it, in my humble opinion.

that's why ties are resolved by lives-left.  Either way, you are demonstrating that you are better than the other person at the game. :)

Thing is, lives are awarded by points, and if you stop gaining more points you'll stop gaining 1-ups from points. There are a limited number of 1-ups in the game, and while you can have more than 14, I don't know that you can have many more...

I don't see what the problem is.  Get more than 14 lives to be in first place.  AKA: Don't die as many times as Necromancer did.

It doesn't seem that complicated, lol.

In this picture (https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=3831.msg146980#msg146980) (from the high score thread) I ended the game with 23 extra lives in tow, and I was only halfway to maxing out the high score counter.

I estimated you could probably max out the extra lives around 35-45 if you played impeccably and didn't die at all and maxed out the score at 999,999.

There are just a ton of hidden flowers that are exposed by bonking the ground in the right spot strewn throughout the game that reward extra lives. There's probably ~10 just in the waterfall ascent level near the end of the game, for example.

My point being that 14 is probably only a third of the actual maximum number of extra lives you could finish the game with. I was able to get 10 more than that with half the score.

The key to more lives is in the flowers, as you'll stop accruing extra lives for points when you hit 20 (or thereabouts).  It's certainly possible to beat my 'score', as I had 30 lives going into the final level and could've preserved many more had I not run pellmell to the end.

See?  :)  It's possible to win the bonk portion.  CMON PEOPLE

There are some regulars here who didn't even try!

I think people already end up spending too much on themselves in the run up to Christmas because of all the sales. Combine that with Christmas obligations and it gets hard to justify more expenditure. And given the contest is an opportunity to buy, I can see how the holiday timing might be bad. I think this whole affair would have probably worked better in Feb or March, because some people might be anticipating tax returns.

Only first place can buy one, yes.

Though I will admit I was a dope when looking at the last picture.  The shadow made me think the hu-card was bent, and I was thinking "why wouldn't they make it flat..."

You need to include Rover's PCEFX Bomber game to the protocards as a bonus game if it would fit. That would definitely make it stand out in the crowd as a one of a kind PCEngineFX exclusive card. Plus it would be freakin' sweet.

In the end, it's just gonna' be really cool to have new Hu Cards. It's been WAY too long.

So...... any idea of a timeline on these?  :)  No rush or anything, I just think its cool as shit that we will be getting new games, via Hu-Card!

The finishing touches are being put on the cards themselves.  2 of the 3 games are done. The 3rd one just needs me to stop being picky about the sound effects I made.  I keep fiddling with them and swearing at them.
