Title: List of Stores That Sell Turbo Games
Post by: jlued686 on 12/31/2006, 01:14 PM
I thought it might be cool to try to make a map of stores around the country that sell TurboGrafx/Duo games.  If you have one in your area, please click the link below and add it to the map.  In the comments, please add the store's approximate location (ex: corner of Main and Grand, in strip mall) and the relative size of their Turbo selection.

I added Cedar Cliff Collectibles.  Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to allow one person to add more than one location.  If you figure it out, let me know.  In the meantime, if someone from the Twin Cities could add Toy 'Riffic in Maplewood (near the Maplewood Mall, small selection), and Discland in Bloomington (off 94th and 35W, rarely carries Turbo games), I'd appreciate it.

Maybe if we get enough entries on here Keranu or Aaron could sticky this post?

Thanks!

i think there should be a limit on what counts as 'sells turbografx games'; i think some Gamers (local old game chain that I hate) have, like, 3 or 4 hucards. and 2 of them are keith courage.

I live in WA and there used to be this GREAT store in Redmond, WA called FamCom Games. The owner was a huge Turbo nut. Half the store was filled with Turbo stuff. SuperGrafxes, Japanes hardware, Duos, etc. And don't get me started on the games. The store closed around 2003 and I have no idea what happened to him, or his inventory. Sad deal, really, there is not another store in the state to my knowledge that has any Turbo stuff at all.

I set the topic as sticky for 'ya, good thread.

The best place for Turbo games that I know of near the Chicago area is Video Games Etc..., ran by video game collector Sean Kelley. It's not a paradise for Turbo games, but it has certainly made improvements in Turbo selection over the past year. Last time I was there they had a bunch of PCE HuCard imports as well as Super Grafx games in nice condition. For American games it's the typical Turbo games you might find at stores; World Class Baseball, Power Golf, that Volleyball game, etc... though last time I was there he added a few new Turbo Chip games that came with the cardboard box, so I'm hoping he'll have more. Definitely a place worth checking out, especially for retro games in general. It's located in Norridge, Illinois, I'll add the address later.

I just stopped there last Friday, and the selection was pretty bleak. Some New in Box OLD games (World Court Tennis etc.) Also, only a few PCE Hu Cards like Parodius and Street Fighter 2:CE ($20 though, in the case) Most of the prices were a tad high though, and the Saturn and Jaguar selection was pretty weak as well. Nice place though. I saw quite a few classic systems that I wanted to buy.

Seriously...if you have a store in your area that sells turbo games, please add it.  It'd be cool to know where they are when we're traveling around the country.

Basically, if a store that carries Turbo stuff gets on the map and isn't a rip off, it won't be a Turbo selling store anymore.

I now live in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, but i lived in Sharon, Pennsylvania for 5 years, and in Pennsylvania all my life, and there was this really cool gu named Mark, that owned this chain of used/new, buy/sell/trade movie and game store called Splitstone Entertainment, and he started carrying old-butt turbo-grafx games. I always found some cool old-butt retro stuff there, and he always made me deals on stuff, like one time he gave me like 60 Sega C.D games because they never sold. LOL! It wasn't long after that the retro-craze kicked in, and he started selling them. you should check his site to see if he might have anything. I left in September of '05, and his selection was really small on tg-16 games then, but since then, college kids might have told their moms/dads to get rid of anyting they might have stored in their attic/closets since they left home, and brought out some special imports.

Too bad I can't help on this. The only stores I knew of was EB Games back in 1991-92 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico when my dad was stationed there. That is where I got my Cadash and Final Lap Twin. I still remember the wall and seeing Lords of Thunder and wishing I had $350 to get it with the CD-ROM drive, damn.

I got a kick out of this, some old game trading store in Laurel, MS has one TG-16 system with the volleyball game and it is selling for $90. HAHA, I almost wanted to have them call their manager to come down so I could throw it at his face.

Hey another Seattle peep :)  I live in Bellevue, and there is another place that sells TG stuff (they had a Duo last time I checked) called Pink Godzilla in Chinatown.  Their website is www.pinkgodzillagames.com.  I bought some TG games from them when they first opened, but I don't know if they have any games in stock now as there is nothing on their website....

About a month ago I was searching online for Turbo games and discovered that there was actually a store here in Halifax/Dartmouth, Nova Scotia that sold Turbo merchandise. All they have at the moment are one used copy of Andre Panza Kick Boxing and one used copy of Victory Run for $20 each. But they will do special orders . Check their prices for special orders. Some are super expensive for games that are hardly worth it, but some more rare and/or better games seem quite reasonable. I would like to know if the games are "complete with box", or what. They also sell at a local flea market. I'm going to have to check it out and talk to them. I might even grab those two games.

I posted the store on the map as well.  :)

Ouch!  Their prices suck goat wang, considering their comment on the condition of items (may or may not have a case, may or may not have a manual, may or may not be dipped in poo, etc.).  Even the dreaded ebay should yield equal or better prices - without having to gamble on the quality (from reputable sellers anyway).

hehehehe....you said, "dipped in poo"....hehehe  :P

Yeah, not very outstanding prices, eh? If the case and instructions are intact for Andre Panza Kick Boxing then 20 bones isn't too bad. At least I live here and can see the condition of the games and save shipping cost.  :) But yeah, definitely not going to put Ebay outta business.  :)

In the last few years, a bunch of local losers have done to local retro gaming what Bullseye/2_many_collectibles did to eBay. There are a few with tables at every local fleamarket and they generally sell incomplete bad condition games/systems for the same price as or several times higher than mint complete or new items generally sell for online.

I recently found one of them had a bare (no hookups or anything) Coregrafx with 18 of the most common worthless HuCards, including some doubles(like The Kung Fu). The one partner couldn't give me a price on anything, except to say that his buddy was only selling it together as a lot. It took a long time for him to finally get a hold of him at which point he said he was asking $290 for it.

Considering that most of the games were the ones that sell for $50 -$1.50 on eBay, I had pegged the value at about $40 - $60 tops. And although local markets can differ greatly from the online market, here there is absolutely no real interest in Turbo/PCE. The few nerds I've seen who actually buy the odd Turbochip do it as a gimmick since they want to have some of everything.

I'm in Queens New York and there ain't a dang thing out here.  There's a videogamecentral right near me and the only games they ever have are King of Casino and TV Sports Football.  Bleccch.  Went into Flushing last year on a pc-engine game hunt- expecting to find many stores with games and these people never even heard of the fogging system.  Total joke.  There's gotta be a place in Manhattan or maybe Brooklyn I'm sure but I've yet to see one.  It's been Ebay for me constant.  I don't see a store beating dreamstars prices with that 1.50 shipping and handling for hucards.

There used to be a pawn shop around here in Ft. Lauderdale FL that specialized in retro game systems.  They were pretty good and super picky - had to have everything for them to buy a system from you, and it all had to be in near perfect shape.  I will see if I can track them down again, but its been a few years.

As for New York, you can MAYBE find some in China Town in Manhattan itself - look for the ChinaTown Tech mall and go in there where they have the Chinese versions of the Anime videos and models - you might find them in there - they USED to have them there years ago.

Also out on Long Island, I found shops inside flea markets or open markets selling TG stuff - but that was years ago - I dont know if you will find any anymore.

A few months ago I went to the Digital Press store in Northern Jersey... they had a great display case with lots of PCE stuff (i.e. the PCE LT, the expensive collapsable/folding DUO monitor, etc.) but the selection of games was stinky. Not that I expected much, but still.

I did buy a Bionic Commando novelette, though. I have yet to read it.

If your near Austin Texas you gotta check out one of the two, or both of the two Game Over stores.  They carry around 20-30 hu cards each, and prolly 5-10 cd's including some imports.  They also have Tg systems usually, and lots of controlers and turbo taps.  Great stores, I usually leave there broke as hell.

I recently (three years ago or so) moved out to Seattle myself from SoCal. Pink Godzilla can be a great store if you don't have access to cheaper dealers on Ebay and such, or if you're really savvy about the price of games, otherwise you'll get ripped off, to put it bluntly. I don't hold anything against them as they do have an overhead that needs to be taken into consideration. I buy stuff from them once in awhile, and have gotten some decent deals, but it's a hassle since I actually care whether I'm spending more in a shop than I would be online.

The other place, which I absolutely DON'T recommend, is Al's on the Ave (University Way and 45th/47th). The prices there are almost ALWAYS a rip-off. I did buy Dragon Knight II & III off them ($8 for missing manual DKII, $15 for DKIII) and they do have a nice selection of TG-16/PC Engine/CD games, but you really have to know what each game is worth. Sometimes you can get a deal, usually you'll get taken to the cleaners. There's actually a few Al's locations, but I never go to Federal Way or wherever the other one is so I can't comment on what their selection is like.

Here in New Orleans, besides the thrift stores, we've only had a place called The Game Trader for our retro gaming needs for years now. One location in Esplanade Mall in Kenner, one in Lakeside mall in Metairie, and one about 20 minutes away in Laplace. They were always on the expensive side of things, but they *only* sold/traded classic games and systems (none of that new crap), usually had a good selection, serviced broken consoles and were good for when you needed a quick fix and didn't feel like waiting a week for a for a game to arrive from a better deal you found online. But then....

I went to Lakeside Mall on my lunch break about a month ago and found that Game Trader was totally gone. Just completely closed down and emptied out with no notes or anything. Fearing the worst, I went to the Esplanade. Same situation. I haven't checked out the one in Laplace yet, but I suspect it's gone as well. Their website (http://thegametrader.com/ (http://thegametrader.com/)) has also gone 404. Their high prices may have pissed me off, but they were our ONLY local, "brick and mortar" classic gaming resource.  ](*,)

There is a little hope, however. There's a new retro gaming shop in Kenner on Williams Ave. called Play N Trade. I went there the other day and... well, their selection of actual classic stuff is pretty spare and much of the wall space is dedicated to used next-gen games for sale/trade. No TG16 stuff to speak of. Still, I'll give them a while to establish themselves and check back in a few months to see how things are going. I did pick up a boxed NES Max controller for $3.99 while I was there. Couldn't help myself. (I loved the controller as a kid, but now I find it almost unusable...)

Anyway, that's all I've got. If ANYONE out there reading this is from or near the New Orleans area and you know of some other retro gaming store I'm unaware of, PLEASE speak up and correct me! I will be eternally grateful to you! I secretly hope that there's some place I just don't know about...

Incidentally, I'm a huge thrift store hound and I've never come across anything TG16-related in either New Orleans or Baton Rouge area stores since I started regularly haunting them in about 2004. Weak. :( I had hopes for the Baton Rouge area since that's where I grew up and I know of three people besides myself who had a TG16 growing up there. I know that doesn't seem like a lot (everyone I knew had an NES), but most people's childhood TG16 stories involve their being the one oddball kid in the whole city with a Turbo system.

That sucks, Nectarsis. I'm hoping it's just because they're relatively new and haven't had time to accumulate a decent selection of old stuff through trade-ins and whatnot.

Also, I had no idea these guys were a national franchise. I thought they were just a new local place that opened up in the wake of Game Trader, but then I read your post... and when I search for video game stores in Louisiana on Google, a bunch of them pop up in different cities all around here. Interesting.

Next Level Videogames in Blackwood, New Jersey.

They got a good selection retro and modern games. Mostly overprice except for obscure systems, such as Turbo grafx and Game Gear, for fair prices. Loose sports titles for $3, Cadash (loose) $8, Super Star Soldier (loose) for $10. Most complete in case are no high than $10 with the exception of a few. They got some sealed games but all are sports. All n' all. A good place to look in, if you close by or going to be in the area.

How about some Nor-cal representation? From Bay Area to Sac? I found a place several years ago in Sacramento that had alot of retrogaming, and had Turbo stuff (but was priced pretty high). I totally lost the location / number and no idea if they still carry Turbo stuff. It was a small shop and had a ton of NES / SNES.

Got one for ya. McVan's Video Games in Indianapolis, IN in Broadripple on 62nd street right on the strip. Last time I was in there they had a big stack of Turbografx and Duo games including a sealed copy of Lords Of Thunder for $35. That's where I picked up my copy of Galaga '88 for $20.

Found this store online and they said they had a lot in stock.  I drove out there a little while back and they did have a LOT in stock.  An entire display case of Turbo games, some even boxed.  I would estimate their stock to have somewhere near 150 games.  At the time I picked up 7-8 games, a Turbo Stick and a 3.0 system card.  Their game prices can be found at http://www.gamedude.com/TurboGrafx.htm.  Unfortunately the only way to see what they have is to either call them or go to their store, their stock isnt posted online.  Happy shopping!

lol, that is where I buy a lot of my games. The interior of the store is quite breathtaking: there is a bounty of classic games. Their only downfall is the damned void stickers that they ruin everything they sell with. It took me months to get the residue of one of the hucards that had been bastardized by them.

I purchased some games from ebay and a few of them had 'Game Dude' stickers on the hu card and/or instruction manual. You'd think they would put them on the clear part of the jewel case so you could replace it if you didn't want residue on your game or manual. Unfortunately, they also don't have the 8 games that I need to finish my collection.

Yeah Game Dude has been around for many years.  I used to get the Game Dude mail order price list catalog when I was younger and first purchased the TG-16 from Electronics Boutique.  They are one of the rare companies that have managed to stay in business.

Ok I finally found the store in Sacramento (not sure if there are any Sac peeps on here):

Fair Game
8214 Fair Oaks Blvd
Carmichael, CA 95608
916-944-4263

Only had like 10 turbo titles and ALL were overpriced. But they have a very decent selection of NES, SNES and Genesis, something you don't really find locally anymore. They also had Sega Saturn and CD, but limited selection. There is another Fair Games in Sacramento, but this one (not too far from the other one) has more retro stuff.

Use Goo Gone to get rid of GameDude's darn silver stickers.  It takes lots of elbow grease too, but it works fine.

I avoid going there except on July 4th & Black Friday, when they have 20% off all of their used games & accessories!

So great to see all these posts about places selling TG-16/CD stuff, and RECENTLY.

I tell ya, it seems like when the product was first available, there wasn't as much interest THEN as there is NOW (yes, our marketing dept., for most of the original run anyway, really sucked - sad, but true).

I swear I could have run the marketing dept. better when I was like 12 years old back then. In addition to that I'm pretty sure I could have made MUCH better decisions on what games to translate and bring to the US. SO many great Japanese games were overlooked for one reason or another.

Also, who the hell was in charge of cover art for the game boxes and manuals! Idiots! They should have just slapped English titles on the Japanese art and called it good, I am 100% convinced that a lot of people saw the box art for TG games and instantly went and bought a Genesis.

Oh man, of that I have no doubt.  We were constantly in battle with development about which games they were bringing over and what they chose not to, etc.  And the constant 'cleaning up' of games - stuff that wasn't even necessary - changing the mask in Splatterhouse from white to red so Paramount wouldn't sue them for copyright on 'Friday the 13th'... ridiculous.

We were also always on them about the box art too, which is why they FINALLY dropped that 'black border' around the edge of the game box (the early releases) and went to 'full box graphic display' (like Bonk's Adventure, etc.) because it looked SO much better.

Software Seconds used to be good when Mike ran the place.  It's kinda shady now.  I forget the guy who runs it now.  He's nice but when there's a shit ton of stuff that doesn't have a price on it and you ask you know he's just making up a number.  Most of the stuff in that store has been there since the late 90's minus the turbo stuff.  A couple years back he had a crap ton of Hu Cards but quite a few were over priced.  I remember that they had a price list in a binder for the Turbo games and of course they wanted $199 for Terraforming but also sold me Alien Soldier for MD for $15 bucks.  :-k  I was back there around xmas this past year and the price list was gone.  I asked him about it and he said he didn't remember having a price guide.  I also remember asking him how much he wanted for his World Heros AES cartridge.  He said he wasn't sure but it would be "up there" in price.  They are also on ebay under the same name and I saw the listed price of that AES World Heroes game.  It was fairly cheap, $35 I believe for the US version.  Now why would he list it cheap but in the store not give me a definite price and say it's "up there"  It's kind of a shady place now.  I used to get all my import stuff from them when I lived in Columbia.  Now I look else where.  They do have good feedback on ebay though.  Just know how much stuff is really worth before going into that store.  You could get a great price or over pay.

So I decided to try and hunt down some Turbo/PC Engine games in the wild and went to a game store at ST Marks in NYC east village called 8-Bit and Up. Unfortunately I only saw a single stack of Turbo games in a display case which was mostly common games and a couple of imports like SF2 and what looked like Fatal Fury 2. It's about what I expected...the problem is I'm sure most store owners are aware of what certain games are worth and sell them on Ebay. The odds of walking into a game store and finding something hard to find and valuable are slim.

They did have a pretty good selection of Atari and Genesis/MS stuff if anyone is interested though.

Dyna138 have you checked out Video Games New York in the East Village on E 6th St?  It is a far better store than 8bits and up.  I always buy at Video Games New York.

I only bought something once at 8Bit and Up.  They put the crappiest condition copy into the crappiest box for me when I told them to put it in the better box.  All their games are stashed in a huge plastic container.  You don't even know what the condition of the cartridge is until you are paying for it.  And the people who worked there had an attitude.

The TurboGrafx games that 8bit and up had were in a horrible state as if they just got it off the street after dropping it a couple times.  Video Games New York is much more preferred.  And in Chinatown there is J&L Game Trading, where I buy some of my modern games.  Take care!

Yeah I was disappointed with 8bit and up. It was cool to see some stuff they had, but selection wasn't so great. It's not cool what they did to you either so I guess its buyer beware. The best part about going to 8bit and up was the $2.50 pizza deal across the street.

I agree & can vouch. 8bit and Up is a good new store to provide some refreshing competition to the (at times) "rapist pricing" of Videogames New York. Like every retro game hunter knows, it's not so much in finding the games, but in finding the games at the best deals.

Learn to walk away from a bad deal. I guarantee that if you learn that skill, the joys of your hobby will be more bountiful and long-lasting. :)

J&L doesn't have many PC Engine games.  And the one that they have are not worth buying.  They are all faded, but it's a  nice store for more recent games.  I would go to Video Game New York over 8 Bit and Up any day.  I know Video Games New York doesn't have the best prices, but there are some gems to be found there in between all the crap.  And the employees are much nicer.

I found a sealed Cosmic Fantasy 2 for the Turbo CD at Video Games New York, but they don't restock those kind of things.  It was about the same price as online outlets.  There is not much of a market for Turbo Maniacs like ourselves.  Oh, well.

So I did wind up going to Video Games New York yesterday, which happens to be only a few blocks away from 8-bit and Up. Overall their selection is way better on classic game systems but damn are they super expensive. Think I saw a loose SNES Dracula X for $80 and the lowest price for anything loose was like $20. They had a better selection of Turbo/PC Engine games but that's not saying much. Nothing rare, but again I saw a lot of loose hueys of common titles priced at $20 and up. Really only a good place to pick up titles if your an impulse buyer otherwise, for a lot of stuff, you can get complete copies on ebay (gasp) for less than what Video Games New York sells loose.

It's a shame I would of picked up some loose SNES or Genesis carts if their prices were reasonable.

So maybe by 2014 the price will approach something reasonable.

The sad thing is they probably paid some kid who didn't know any better $5 for it.

I live in cleveland ohio and there still is a Its About Games store that still has a few loose Hu-Cards mostly Keith Courage, Bonks, TV Sports all the commons he has them at $5bucks a game. Thats cheap by ebay standards lol.

But any good collector that sells Turbo games thats not GameStop is looking to make a little something more then what the game is worth. If your a Mom and Pop shop that sells Rare games and Systems you cant afford to sell a rare game for $20bucks.

My brother just got back from Hawaii and he picked up a ColecoVision cart of Zaxxon, for just $5, and a sealed boxed copy of Joust for for the Atari 2600 for $6. He got 'em both from Toys n' Joys in Honolulu. He asked about PC Engine/Turbografx games, and they clerk said they didn't have any that week. But lots of NES/SNES/Genesis/MD/PS1/Saturn games and consoles. Even an ATARI Lynx was left there to rot. :)

WOW.

I lived in Hawaii a loooong time ago and used to know the folks that owned Toys n' Joys (went to High School with their son).  Holy crap your post brought back a wave of memories.  I bought a Turbografx-16 from them when it was released.  ... and a Turbo Booster+... and a CD attachment... and an Express...  and a ton of games.  They were my go-to source for Turbo goodness back in the early 90s.  I could ride my bike there.  Awesome to know they're still around.  I wonder if my high school buddy is now running it (he's probably 36-37 these days).

Went to Game Zone in Salem, MA today. They had a small collection of games, and quite a bit of hardware. Everything was crazy expensive, for example $20 for Vigilante and $250 for a turbo express. However, it was still nice to see a place with some games- it's not that often I come across anything locally.

Here is one you can add to your list. http://www.lunavideogames.com/ (http://www.lunavideogames.com/) These guys have 2 stores in my city they usually have a selection of TurboGrafx and on occasion Duo games. They are a great store. When I first found my TG16 it had no controller, RF or power supply and not knowing at the time that generics of either would work I took it down to see if they would let me use some of their TG16 cables to test it. They did and let me play R-type for a while. :)

Last time I was in San Diego (this past July) I stopped by both of those shops to see what kind of TG goodness they had.  Both stores were selling the console (for $70, which isn't horrible, but it was more than I was willing to pay) and one had an Express, which they wanted $200 for (which I thought was pretty steep).  Both stores also had maybe a dozen common HuCards, and I think they wanted between $10-20 ea.  I didn't get any Turbob goodness from them, but did pick up a handful of Genesis carts for $3 ea.  Good bunch of guys - they know their retro.

The downside to them knowing their stuff is they price accordingly and you'll never find crazy hidden gems like will occasionally happen at swap meets or play n trade. Though they are still almost always priced fairly and usually cheaper then ebay. They've been really cool to me when I've bought and traded from them. Once when I was there I was short 3 bucks + tax and they said what I had was enough and gave it to me. :D And they have stretched the value of my trade-in's on more then one occasion if the item I wanted to trade for was pretty close in price(such as some Lynx games for my old GBC). They've also got a great return policy so in the event a dud game slips through them they will take it back with no hassle. There is only one other retro gaming store aside from the two Luna locations that I'm aware of in my town. The guy who runs it is a loony and prices his shit like its made of gold, want a copy of Finally Fantasy 7 black label? $100. Boxed Sega Genesis III in pretty shitty condition? $300. Loose copy of Secret of Mana w/ peeling label and writing on cart? $90. Earthbound? Don't bother asking.  ](*,) lol Here is his store, check out the reviews, I'd be willing to be all the positive reviews are from friends and relatives or people oblivious to what things are worth.

Hi folks.  I'm in Austin and haven't seen GameFellas listed.  There is a popular game store (Game Over) who seem to get a lot of attention, but GameFellas have been around much longer.  They also buy/sell DVDs and BDs so their stores are often merged with MovieFellas.  There are 3 or 4 around the Austin area and do carry Turbo stuff, but not much.  They've got all the other old consoles too, but seem to make most of their money on used 360/PS3/Wii stuff.

GameFellas
http://www.gamefellasentertainment.com/

Their website doesn't have much.  I recently went to the one up by Lakeline Mall and found World Sports Competition for $30.  After trading in a few extras I had lying around, I ended up paying about $22 for it.  Not too bad!  I've been keeping my eye on eBay for that one and it just isn't around really, not for less than $120.  (The gameplay is definitely NOT worth $120).  They also have lots of KCs as well as sports titles that I'm sure they'll sell for cheap for anyone needing cases.

I would like to self promote since I am in the process of opening a real storefront and not being internet only.  I have the space and am renovating it starting this week and should be up and running by next week sometime.  I have sold tg16 games on here so you know I sell them and I still have a lot left over so I will have stock and also will happily sell them in the future as I acquire them.

Hmm.  I was there last week, and while they didn't have any games at that time, they did have a Turbo Tap and a couple of TG-16 controllers, and possibly some other accessories.  I have seen a couple of common sports titles there before, but it may have been a year ago.  The one in Highland did have a little more TG-16 stuff the last I was there - about 2 weeks ago, and I just called Video Palace yesterday and spoke with the owner and he rattled off 10+ titles that they currently had, and I was only asking about TG-16 HuCards.

I'll throw a couple your way.

The three Tulsa area Game-X-Changes in Oklahoma all carry Turbo stuff. If we can get it. I used to handle all the "collectible" items for the stores but now that I am living out of state I don't now how much our stores will take in.

Also for consideration is Vintage Stock. While not the best shopping experience (poor customer service) these stores will occasionally have a few TG-16 Games. Also this is for Tulsa, Oklahoma

HA! Last time I went he had about a dozen or so of all common garbage. Maybe he has acquired more since then, but it doesnt really matter. His prices are so far off the wall it's not even funny. You would think with the amount of stuff that is packed in there, he would want to part with some of it. It is a retail STORE after all.
To give you an idea, on any given game, take the highest eBay sale of the last year or so and add 30%.
I know some places leave room to haggle, but that place is crazy.
I saw GameCube metroid for something like $55.
And best example was he had two loose mighty bomb jack carts for NES. One was priced $11 and the other $17. Why? Because the label was in shit condition on one of them. Nice job buddy, way to split hairs on a game that should be $3

Well, I just today discovered a Retro game store not on this list in Murrieta, California - It's between Los Angeles and San Diego, but closer to San Diego.  It had a LARGE selection of retro games with a pretty good Turbo section with a complete TG-16 briefcase unit - complete with nice briefcase, TG-16 console, CD attachment, Turbo Tap, 2 Turbo Arcade Sticks, System Card and 2 loosie Hucards - Keith Courage & Moto Roader for $299.  That's probably a fair price for 'in the wild', and it seemed as though they might have some leeway for dickering.
I took some pics of the store (with the manager's approval).  Here they are. (https://www.box.com/s/g91hy48805ek26ifds6b)

They had 34 different TG-16 games with some extra duplicates (about 10) of various games.  (Like they had 3-4 copies of Blazing Lazers.)  The 2 boxed games that you see in the pics (J.J & Jeff and Psychosis) were both in very nice condition, and while I already had both games CIC, I had the cardboard retail boxes for neither, so I asked the manager if I could just give them $5 each for the boxes alone (complete with styrofoam insert), and he said, "Sure.", so I got 'em for $10.00 flat, no tax, and I felt that it was fair to both the store and myself.

Store information is as follows:

M & M Video Games
40635 California Oaks Road
Murrieta, CA 92562
951-461-6961
mandmgames.net - (I'm not sure if this website works.)

While I have not been there personally, the store manager told me that they have one other location - in Upland, CA which is a little closer to Los Angeles - with a very similar selection of retro games, including TG-16 stuff.  Its information is as follows:

M & M Video Games
110 South Mountain Avenue
Upland, CA 91786
(909) 931-4424

I just went to Classic Game Junkie in Glenside, PA. Amazing selection of all consoles, they have pretty much everything, even Game & Watches. Unfortunately, most prices are based off of eBay, and the Turbo section is very small. I did get U.S. Dungeon Explorer II for only $30. If you're in the area, I'd say check it out anyway.

Check out any and all Disk Replays in your area.  I'e found some good Turbo stuff at the Disk Replay in Mishawaka - 5916 Grape Road, (574) 273-5800.  They have had a Turbo Booster Plus, a complete TG-16 CD breifcase setup, and some boxed TG-16 games before as well as some loosies and some CIC games.  I also filled out my SNES library with over 100 titles as well.  You can always call them first before you drive over there.

Also, I hope that you can come to VGS this weekend.

My brother use to go to college in the area, Generally they didn't have a big selection of turbo, and if they did they liked to sell it quickly as a bundle. but that was about a year ago, perhaps someone else has more insight to recent activity.

Yea Sudden Impact didn't have anything turbo related. He said it sells as quick as it comes in. The owner is a nice guy though and gives very good store credit on all things nintendo. A lot of the stuff is around market value too so it seems to be a lot better than most retail retro stores.
Title: Re: List of Stores That Sell Turbo Games

I was at Sudden Impact about a year and a half ago.
I sold him a bunch of SNES stuff.  If he still has a gem mint chrono trigger all complete, that was probably mine.  Along with excellent Super Metroid, Vania IV, Zelda, and many others.  He paid well, but it took a bit of haggling.  Gave we a stupid lowball at first and I got him up to where he should be.
He was way high priced on everything, so hopefully he has come down to earth by now.  Only turbo stuff he had when I was there were about a dozen "orange label" commons.

I say out of the four retro gaming stores I went to in Portland Oregon only one had any turbo games and they were super over priced. Retro Game Trader. They did have a few rare titles (Panzer Dragoon Saga complete for $350 and 3 grand for a loose magical chase) but good Lord did they have a lot of Sega stuff.

I've seen some Turbo stuff from time to time at Disc Replays in the Chicagoland area. Even in the south suburbs too. There is a location in Orland Park, Joliet, and Bolingbrook. I've seen Turbo games or sometimes system at all of those locations at some point. That's not to say they will always have stuff but I figure it is always worth a shot if any of you are traveling through that area.

How ironic that I just went to VideoGamesNewYork on Friday.  It is about a 15 minute walk from Union Square, or you can get off the R at 8th St. if you are making a trip specifically for the store.

https://www.videogamesnewyork.com/the_store (https://www.videogamesnewyork.com/the_store)

I had heard of the store and I finally decided to stop by because I had a few hours to kill waiting for a flight.  I would say that since it was in NYC, the prices were actually kind of fair.  Of course, as with most stores, they ranged from deals (some DS games) to absurd (most consoles), but you just need to pick out the deals.

There was a decent little TG16/PCE selection.  Their pricey game was a CIB Bonk 3 for $299, but there were a lot of more reasonably priced more common games.

I bought a Pokémon Soul Silver and Henry Hatsworth for DS when I was there, nothing too exciting.  However, the store is quite cramped and I thought that Hatsworth was $5, when in fact it was $15...  my poor eyesight and inability to contort my body leading to the confusion.  Store worker was cool in that he offered the game to me for $10.

I'll stop by again if I have more free time next time I am in NYC for work.

You in the Binghamton area?

There is a pretty solid flea market over there.  Also, I cant remember the name but there is a pretty solid retro store downtown that actually has a bunch of arcade machines too.  A quick Google search should pull it up, as long as it hasn't closed in the last 2 years.

TG16 stuff...  not the easiest to find in the area though, so you are correct the wild hunt will be tough.

This is a newer store and one of the coolest game stores that I've ever been in.  I had a conference in Grand Rapids this past October and stopped in to see what the store was like.  They had a limited Turbografx collection, but the pricing is very fair.

Because you didn't have to read 18 pages of a thread, moron, it's the 1st post of the thread that keeps a full, updated/maintained list by the creator. Try using what little, functional brain cells you have left!

Because you didn't have to read 18 pages of a thread, moron, it's the 1st post of the thread that keeps a full, updated/maintained list by the creator. Try using what little, functional brain cells you have left!

Tommy the Troll, turned defender/hero of the "new people." The psycho troll has taken up a righteous cause, evidently not much better things to do in his life than teach forum members "manners." For Tommy's lesson on forum "manners, etiquette, etc." click here... (https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=17314.msg360934#msg360934) ;) The loon prides himself on detecting hypocrisy in others, but can't seem to detect his own, not even in the slightest bit.

P.S. GTFO of the forum like you said you would, psycho!

With a friendly community like this it makes me want to converses with you even more. *insert sarcasm*

The easier way it could have been taken care of would have been "It's already there." You automatically assume that I didn't look, but I had. Unfortunately I also looked right over it somehow. I love how the internet brings the best out of people... to be honest I don't understand this whole attitude that people take, "Oh, I have to act all big and bad towards everyone on the internet because I can't do it in real life or I'd have my face smashed in."

I actually came to list another one (one that is not on the list), but what's the point? If the forum is filled with people like you why would I even want to bother spending time here. No one likes to be unfairly treated and I thought about just keeping my mouth shut and walking away from this post, but I felt that you guys are going way overboard on such a trifling post.

Now just to clarify... I know the forum is not filled with people like you, or I would have already taken off. But, I do believe when forums have rules that the moderators should take action on those who are breaking the rules.  You even agreed to the Terms and Conditions when you signed up.

Quote from: Terms and ConditionsYou agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal law.
What I'm trying to say is... there was no attack towards you guys and you should not feel any reason to freak out over this. Sure I may be a new forum member here, but maybe you've been around too long and have a sense of entitlement or elitist status.

I think this post is a neat idea to help people who live in different area's to find better prices on TG16 games. I for one have decided not to take part in this thread anymore. If someone accidentally slips up this thread turns into a flame war... what's the point in that?

jlued's second comment and NightWolve's comments were directed at Tommy the Troll, not you.  Tommy brings his baggage with him to every thread, so don't confuse vitriol tossed at that clown as having anything to do with you.

Is that not exactly what jlued's first comment said?  Sure he made a joke about your reading comprehension skills, but it's just a joke and 100% true anyway; you admit you mistakenly overlooked that store (a.k.a. a reading comprehension failure).
Title: Re: List of Stores That Sell Turbo Games
Post by: Ayce on 08/01/2014, 10:42 AM
I guess I don't know Tommy as well as you guys, but I did not see that as a trolling moment. I saw that as a come to the noobs defense which does not happen much.

As for reading comprehension, no, that was not a case of comprehension - that would be the ability to read text and process it's meaning.

When it comes to a list it was an oversight, so I still stand my ground on that rudeness that was directed towards me. Yes, I'm sorry for making a mistake, and there is no way that he could have know that I did look first. There is still a better way at going about it.

I didn't mean to go flying off the handle (if that's the impression that I gave here) but I'm so tired of the attitudes that people take when it comes to dealing with others on the internet.

I'm not going to let the community suffer for what I felt was a really bad way of dealing with the situation at hand so here is one more for the list.

Game Over
587 W Bay Area Blvd
Webster TX 77598
(281) 554-5637

I have checked and double checked... it is not on the list.
Their selection of games is not as good as the one in Friendswood that I mentioned earlier because they had someone there who sold an almost complete set of TG16 games (minus Magical Chase)

Looks like you didn't even click the link that provides context (https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=17314.msg360934#msg360934) on Tommy Troll Jr. the Turd that you quoted from me otherwise you wouldn't have thanked him for his phony "help" much less responded with so much.

You're right, we're NOT "friendly" to psychos that tell us, a) we should all choke to death, b) that told me personally he hopes that I die soon, c) that we're all dangerous people so he reported this forum to the police, d) to all rot in hell, to go f--k ourselves, our mothers, and our fathers too, etc.

I linked that so I wouldn't add further drama into this thread, but I wasn't gonna let him get away with acting "normal" after his psycho routine, run around, act like he's helping people to wash away that level of excess...

Now, as for what jlued686 said to you, yeah, it was rude, I probably wouldn't have responded that way based on what you did, I DID however respond rudely to a damn death-wishing douchebag because he earned it and at that point I sought to chase his butt off the forum.

Again my apologies to you as well NightWolve. No I didn't click that link, because I was more flustered to see someone, in a forum that I felt in past has been nothing but a great group of people, being rather rude.

There are hopes that someone like Tommy might turn over a new leaf eventually. When I saw his kindness, obviously it looked more like that you two were being the trolls.

Thank you for your explanation.   :D

Didn't see a single store in PA, so here I'll throw this out there- (It's in Philadelphia)

Classic Game Junkie, 111 South Easton Rd Glenside PA 19038

Full disclosure, I work at the store. We have a pretty okay stock of loose HuCards for PCE, oddly more than our loose US games. We've been getting in a lot of boxed TG16 games lately though too. CD games are a bit harder to come by but we somehow find some good stuff (We had a mint copy of Super Air Zonk until recently even) along with some hardware for sale.

If anyone's in the area feel free to stop by and check out our TG16/PCE stuff, I love talking about this stuff!

Quote from: guest on 08/07/2014, 05:15 AMso... how are the prices? I'm sure some people here would happily take some of those boxed goodies off your hands if you were to facilitate purchase/shipping.  I see some good stuff on the Facebook page. Not fair to dangle this stuff in front of us with no avenue to buy the stuffs. :D
We try to be as fair as we can with our prices, keeping in mind of course we need to make enough to stay open.  Most of our pricing is based off of average market value and if it looks like somethings off we definitely have no problem looking into the price.

As far as the pictures that go on the facebook page, almost every picture we take is taken right when the items come in the store because we're excited that we got cool stuff in haha. If you see something posted that you're interested in you're more than welcome to call the store up and ask about it (I'd call after 4PM, which is when the owner or myself are in), shipping stuff is something we have no problem doing! Getting our inventory online is sorta hard to do, sadly :(

I live in Athens GA, and in my town we have a little used game store called Ugame. Its on the UGA campus so there is always cool stuff the comes through there. Havent seen much TG16 stuff lately since I bought them out of an avenue 6 and a few loose HUcards, but here and there they get some in. Pretty fair with prices too, always lower than Feebay and Amazon.

You can add Phoenix Games to the list in CA. Their address is 4425 Treat Blvd, Concord, CA 94521. Really great store with really great employees and owner! They will be moving to another location up the street in about 6 months or so. It will be twice as big and twice as many Turbo games! Their number is (925) 682-4263 and they're open every day and have great hours. They also have tons of other retro games and even have dedicated pinball tournaments. http://www.yelp.com/biz/phoenix-games-concord (http://www.yelp.com/biz/phoenix-games-concord)

In the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan there is a open plaza by the movie theater. There are vendors there that sell used retro games. Sometimes they haveTurbo games and accessories. Prices are very cheap. Most games in $5-$10 range. Sellers are there daily.

172nd street and Broadway
New York, NY

There is also a retro game store in the area, but it's ridiculously overpriced.

Store is on 1st floor in Zone B

Last time I was there, the store had three boxed TurboGrafx games (Klax, Legendary Axe, and Devil's Crush) and a boxed Turbografx console that came with two boxed controllers and a boxed Turbostick. Game Swap is a chain in the Cincinnati/Norther Kentucky area so the other stores may have TG16 stuff later. But in the last couple of months that I've checked, only Florence had Turbo stuff.

To quote myself, which is lame :(

Quote from: esteban on 01/06/2008, 03:11 PMA few months ago I went to the Digital Press store in Northern Jersey... they had a great display case with lots of PCE stuff (i.e. the PCE LT, the expensive collapsable/folding DUO monitor, etc.) but the selection of games was stinky. Not that I expected much, but still.

I did buy a Bionic Commando novelette, though. I have yet to read it.
The game selection was horrible back in 2007-2008. This was corroborated by many others... but I understand why eBay takes priority.

I still wanted to support the brick-n-mortar, so I bought a few things.

The only neat PCE items were a bunch of LD-ROM (JB Harold) that, I think, were still sealed. That was the only time I held and actual PCE LD-ROM in my hands. :)

Look at all those copies of TV SPORTS and other common games.

DROP ROCK was the PCE game on top, I believe.

Have things improved?

Also, I'm in East Hanover. I grew up in Bloomfield. :)

Huh, that's funny; I was just in New Orleans yesterday with some guys from work to see the Warriors at Pelicans game.  I had wanted to spend some time looking for game stores, but there really wasn't time.  I guess I wouldn't have found much, anyway, based on what you said earlier somery.

It was an interesting place to visit, but I can't imagine living there.  I'm having a hard enough time dealing with Mississippi as it is.  Halloween may not have been the best time for me to go, though.  There were so many people who smelled like they hadn't bathed in ages, and the whole French Quarter just reeked of alchohol.  I'm sure it's probably nicer the rest of the year.  Some of the live music and street performances were entertaining.  I also got to see a couple renew their vows in the park, but with everyone dressed up in a voodoo theme.

I am gonna check out some places near me tomorrow and I'll report back what the Turbo selection is like.  The first is Time Warp Media in downtown Sykesville/Eldersburg (Maryland) on Main St.  The second is a place called The Save Point in Westminster Mall.

Update:  I went to Save Point tonight, had to swing by that direction so I just decided to pop in.  They don't really have much in the way of TG-16/PCE stuff, but they did say they have a complete TG-16 console (used) in the box with everything for $200 bucks if anyone is interested.  Other than that, no games really.  I went in looking for GB stuff, didn't really see anything I had to own but I bought some clear protective GB cases for $1 each.  The prices are reasonable, nothing amazing or super special there, but they do have some nice boxed SFC games, I saw Torneko's Adventure and Shiren the Wander in great shape but wasn't looking to buy those tonight so didn't ask what the price was.  Most of the stuff there runs $5-$20 and is in ok shape.  I did notice they were price matching games using a laptop, so no idea if they are using ebay or something else to set the prices.  I saw Motocross Maniacs 2 there which I just bought on Amazon - their price was $5 more than I paid, and Revenge of the Gator was $20 ($15 more than I paid) but theirs had the box.  I did get the protective case and manual with mine, but only paid $5.  Overall though I can't say the prices are that bad, and the guy said he was willing to haggle a little.

I don't know if any of you have heard of "2nd and Charles", but it is a buy-sale-trade store that carries books, movies, music, and video games. Their retro game prices are kind of scatter-brained, sometime stuff is set at a deal, sometimes it is marked up way too high.

Anyways, I stopped by the one in Greenville, SC this morning just to look around and I was shocked to actually see some TurboGrafx games. Apparently someone had dropped off a large amount the other day. The staff didn't really know that much about them, but some customer had already come in and bought most of their stock.
Here's what they had left:
- Andre Panza Kickboxing - $12 - Jewel case and game, no manual
- Dungeon Explorer - $22 - Jewel case and game, no manual
- Devil's Crush - $60 - Game, jewel case, and manual
- Super Star Soldier - $100 - Game, jewel case, and manual.

If anyone is interested and okay with those prices you may want to contact them.

Oh, what really freaked me out was that they had two of the Zelda CD-I games... I had never even seen them in person before.

Hey everyone,

First time posting. This thread is why I joined this site. Thanks everyone for contributing. I live in the Columbus, Ohio area. These are the stores I have been to that I have seen Turbo stuff.

Warpzone - 4496 Cemetery Rd, Hilliard, OH 43026. They are an import place that will most likely have Turbo stuff consistently.

Game On - There are several locations around the west and south side of town. Very inconsistent on stock. There is a card only Sinistron on the W.Broad St location.

Capital Games - 216 Granville St, Columbus, OH 43230. He has a lot of really cool/rare things but don't expect to get a deal. Usually a bit over ebay.

This brings me to my next question. I am going on a trip to Japan next month. Does anyone know of any stores I must hit up? I know about the major store in Akihabara. I am hoping to find a cheapish PCE Duo/R/RX.

Thanks!

I will say that the Exchange in Elyria is very hit & miss on Turbografx games. I am only up there about once a month, but asked specifically about TG16 games and they said only on occassion. There other locations in the area as well. They suggested checking other spots but haven't had the chance yet. (Usually only up there to visit my girlfriend as I live 3 hours away.)

In southern / Shore NJ: two I've visited recently

EAST COAST GAMES - TOMS RIVER - They eBay and tell you the price . . . I've talked about em before somewhere on here.  generally only a few turbobs.

POWERED BY GAMES - LACEY (Lanoka Harbor)  - This is a cool store.  1,000 of games from SMS to turbo to Jaguar to PS4 and Switch.  Everything is used so although they have new stuff it's trade in.  Don't look for any deals here they are quite expensive but pretty popular so they do a ton of trade ins and actually have stock. The clerk has been pretty nice but not super knowledgeable.

Could you add Press Start Games, 1440 Oneida Street, Appleton WI 54915?  They don't have a website, but their Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/pressstartgamesllc.
