Yeah this is probably going to be the most pathetic high score thread, but it's a score I've had saved so I'm posting it  .

Jack Nicklaus' Turbo Golf
139 - Keranu

I did absolutely awful practically the entire game, so anyone who is at least average at the game should be able to anhilate my score!

I have a few scores from Turbo games I've saved on my computer some months back after beating them, so I'll be posting them.

This is my score after beating the game through the Japanese version and I specify the Japanese version incase the American version made any difficulty changes like other games (Sinistron):

Dead Moon (U.S.A.)

4,861,400 - Obfuscate
3,830,100 - RoyVegas
3,433,300 - geise
3,319,900 - DesmondThe3rd
1,977,500 - Necromancer
1,928,100 - DQ187
1,745,500 - chany60126
1,632,700 - lukester

Dead Moon (Japan)

829,400 - Keranu

Probably easy to beat.

Yeah they did a craptastic job porting it to the Genesis.

Awesome screenshots, CrackTiger! I found these ones in particular to be interesting:

The Genesis version seems to believe that nearly all Bomberman should be white. Racism?

What's interesting about Chaotix is that the 32X is only responsible for the sprites.  The Genesis draws all of the backgrounds 100% with its own colors.
Impressive! That's really interesting that the Genesis does the backgrounds, is there a reason for that?

Quote from: Hack_TigerAn example I gave early on was Super Darius.

It scrolls the top and bottom of the bg and uses sprites to overlap inbetween and it works perfectly. This type of effect would recreate R-Type's stage 2 parallax no problem.

I think that it shows that pretty much any kind of horizontal scrolling dual layered bg can be done well on PC Engine.

The second stage in that Darius video is the best example. I left the third stage in just for fun, even though it doesn't have any overlapping. I would've added a some more, but the game mysteriously crashed at the end of that third stage(first time its happened to me in over 15 years ).
Very nice!

I'm guessing that he got blocked from commenting on too many of the Users' accounts he still wants to harass. I never blocked him, since his comments are all gold, but he used airraid4 to recently comment on one of my videos:
HAHAAHA, thanks for pointing that out! He's lines are as shiny gold as usual it seems too:

"The day I saw Genesis Altered Beast for the first time, I could instantly tell it was a major downgrade compared to the arcade game - which I had been playing for months. I knew every large & small detail that was different in the Genesis translation; graphics, audio and gameplay."

It doesn't just stop at the TG16... He puts up Earthworm Jim and adds a power supply to sweeten the deal.
Hahaha, what the heck? Do you have a link for that auction? I want to see if he kicked up the shipping a bunch just to make it look like he's justifying the extra shipping cost of the AC. I guess he just doesn't want the damn thing anymore.

The E! True Hollywood Story of what happened to me

As I reached the peak of my stardom of fame in the 80's, I started hanging around the wrong crowds. Instead of looking for new hot flicks to star in, I slipped my way into the night life of hanging out in clubs with the hottest celebrities and sniffing lines of coke off any woman I wanted to. My drug addiction got so bad that I couldn't even land a role in Munchie and before I could realize it, I was diagnosed with HIV. Time went on and AIDS was taking over my body and my cure for it was to inhale as much coke as I possibly could while playing rounds of Insector X over and over. After beating Insector X for the 956th time, AIDS had won and I laid dead on top of my Genesis (first model of course) with the "Jackin'" song of Insector X looping. But then one dark night, lightning struck my grave and I raised from it! Now in the new millenium, Keranu is BACK and this time as a CYBORGNETIC ZOMBIE and posting on PCEFX once more! THE END!

For those who were really interested, a thunder storm broke my DSL modem and instead of paying $50 for a new one, we switched to a cable internet service.

So does that mean Adventure for Atari 2600 with its three colors on screen looks better than Final Fantasy III for SNES with its 100+ colors ?

The ULTIMATE example of a better American cover is for EXILE: WICKED PHENOMENON! While the Japanese version featured the cliche anime cover, the Working Designs went all the way to design a claymation scene of Sadler and the last boss as the cover! I would totally post pictures of the covers, but I can't find them!

Whoa, good one, GUTS. In an all serious manner, I think the American one definitely looks cooler as the Japanese one looks a bit dorky, not to mention the kick ass flames in the background of the USA one.

YES, another IMAGIC fan! Not only do IMAGIC games kick major ass, but I always loved their shiny labels too! It does kind of suck that they loose the awesome 70's/early-80's artwork that most games had back then, but I definitely dug the shiny label and font. I don't think I have seen a Konami 2600 cart, I didn't even know they made games for Atari. Another Atari 2600 cart I've always admired was the Donkey Kong cartridge, which had a nice bananaish color to it.

Joe, I think NGPC cartridges are pretty neat! GBA's look stupid because it's essentially the same design, only shorter which makes it look like a little chubby bastard. Plus NGPC carts are easy to remove from systems, unlike all the Gameboy variation carts over the years.

By the way, another cool cart is the Hudson BeeCard or whatever for MSX.

I didn't like the MD version's graphics to be honest. Things were bigger, but looked goofier (and choppier maybe? can't remember). Just something about those little sprites and bright colors of the Duo version I admire so much. Also I remember playing a ROM for the SFC version and it had the small sprites of the Duo version, but it had like very little colors or something, really weird.

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 02/01/2007, 07:13 PMAlso, I wanted to point out that dithering is not bad.  It can be used when the "magic" of composite isn't even in the equation, like DS games.  Look at this picture I took of "Phoenix Wright 2: Phoenix Touches the Judge Inappropriately":

phoenix.jpg

As you can see, there is plenty of dithering that can be seen by the naked eye with no composite to perform its magic or sorcery to blend it into a new color.  It's simply part of the artwork.  That's not a bad thing.  Same goes with ancient systems that time has long forgotten like the TurboGrafx-16.
Actually I like to think of portable games using their own sort of "magic" for dithering and that's due to their smaller screen. When a dithered image is smaller, it's harder to make out the pixel and it once again creates that magical effect again. But you're right, dithering isn't a bad thing at all and can look nice sometimes without being blended - as long as it's not overdone. Some Genesis games really pushed dithering to look like more colorful than it actually was and this is one of those cases where you really don't want to be playing it with crystal clear picture on an emulator, in my opinion. So I'm not saying that playing PCE or Genesis games with light dithering in RGB or any format that defines the dithering more is a bad thing, I think it just looks a lil better when done in composite.

So awesome, thanks! That's actually what I usually do when I take pictures of my TV. Image saved  .

Quote from: JoeHere are some more comparison rollover pics I took:

joeredifer .com/turbovideo/swap2.html

I don't have JJ & Jeff or Strip Fighter, but the Fantasy Zone comparison has lots of dithering!
Maybe you really do have to see it in real life, but the differences are very small, in my opinion. It just seems like things are a tad brighter and sharper in component. I don't mean to be an All-American hero here (even though I am), but I say component is not worth it if that's how much it improves :D . Also people can call me crazy here, but I thought some of the colors actually looked better in composite on Joe's site, especially the Legendary Axe.

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 01/27/2007, 04:12 AMCapturing 2 fields in fun!  I can't make the GIF animate as fast as it does on a TV screen in real life, but the picture below shows the shimmering effect that quite a lot of Turbo games have in composite.  NES games, too.  They must use a similar composite encoder (and sound chip).

Ys.gif

CrackTiger, does anything like this happen on your system with S-video ?
I'm aware of the shimmering effect, but it certainly doesn't look that bad on any TVs I have used :D . Besides, the shimmering doesn't bother me at all, I think people just like to be nit-picky.
