Quote from: esteban on 06/15/2013, 12:30 AMSTATUS: I remain envious of all you bastards with LaserActive.I still have to get the turbo/pce pac but not for the going rate...
Quote from: bartre on 11/21/2012, 06:01 PMthey will, sooner or later. Then you'll have people complain and whine that their DC died due to running CDRs and a whole new repair scene will pop up. And have a gouging thread for DC stuff.
though to be honest, I think they'll move on to N64 primarily, and then DC will be the new turbob.
who wants to pay $150 for power stone 2?
Quote from: esteban on 10/28/2012, 02:15 PMIf we can get a usb to mini din I got a bunch of old topaz signature pads we could try out. Could be interesting hmm...Quote from: guest on 10/28/2012, 10:48 AMNo, Illustration Booster was a tablet for a pen:Quote from: esteban on 10/27/2012, 06:10 AMDON'T HEAD DOWN THE WRONG PATH!You mean like the Illust Booster?
You should be modifying a LIGHT PEN to work on the PCE. That would infuse a spicy breath of life to the old DOS games you are porting.
You are welcome.
I want a friggin' LIGHT PEN to use on a CRT screen. You know you want one, too, CrackTiger
I know the hardware gurus here could whip something up (a nice prototype), and then the homebrew software folks would help write a driver/software for it.
I can dream!
Quote from: CGQuarterly on 10/02/2012, 12:24 PMI had a much better time there on Sunday, since I had Bigus to hang out with.As he said, Turbobs were few and far between, and much of it was sickeningly overpriced, but we still managed to find a few goodies.Heh, you got Adams Family too huh. I wish I would have shown up earlier on Saturday (the wife wanted to go to the pittock mansion go figure), it looks like you got some good gems there. Last year the prices were definitely a lot more reasonable and there were a lot more people dressed up. At least this year I got my picture taken with the golem from Dragon Quest. I promise to put some pics of the convention when I get home, stuck doing statements at work again ><
Some gouging highlights include the CIB Motoroader for $50, the CIB NES Contra for $75, and the TG16 system with all hookups, but no box or anything, for $100. I was really hoping to buy a copy of Air Zonk while I was there, but the cheapest option was a loose Huey for $30.
Here's a pic of everything I got while in Portland. Two of the books came from Powell's, and the rest came from the expo.
GEN - Thunder Force 2
GEN - Comix Zone
PC - D&D Eye of the Beholder
PC - Wolfenstein 3D shareware disk
PC - Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold shareware disk
Activision Megamania high score patch
Book "Game Calculators Play"
Book "Masters of Doom"
Book "Secrets of the Games: Sega CD"
Book "Castlevania: The official Hint Guide" Includes Super Castlevania but not Drac X for SNES or Rondo for PCE.
VCS - Road Warriors limited edition homebrew game
TG16 - Super Volleyball
TG16 - Motoroader
TGCD - Lords of Thunder
TGCD - The Adams Family
TGCD - Dungeon Master: Theron's Quest
TGCD - Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective
The most expensive Turbob was Lords. Priced at $40, but I bought it together with Adam's Family, so I got it for $30 and Adam's for $10. Motoroader was $10, Sherlock was $10, Volleyball was $10, and Dungeon Master was $15.
Quote from: guest on 08/28/2012, 09:06 PMI just read the other thread and had to laugh. And heaven forbid if a game takes more than a week to arrive you have the right to bitch about it (and try to bring mods into it) and create all sorts of drama let alone ignore you if you offer him cash or some sort of compensation if it doesn't reach there in a timely matter.
You can't sell Judge Dredd (which I will be sending you monies for tomorrow) without being labeled a pawn shop...
but he can sell a Pokemon Pikachu 2.
LOLWHAT.
also, I see all of those dreamcast games for sale all the time. I got my friend Timestalkers for like, 5$. Shit aint rare.

Quote from: BeaglePuss on 07/11/2012, 10:26 PMIf he really did decide to dump it thats news to me, all I know is that I haven't been able to find a rom of it anywhere let alone the machine. Anyway, back on topic, its great that you posted some screenshots of this game and I hope we see a reproduction coming to a Turbob near you!Quote from: BigusSchmuck on 07/11/2012, 10:17 PMThe Marble Madness 2 arcade rom has been available for years now. Are you sure you're remembering the story correctly? Do you remember if he posted any actual proof of his TG-16 prototype?Quote from: BeaglePuss on 07/11/2012, 01:03 PMHere's a pic of the board to hold you over for a moment (Note: I added the stickers. The EPROMs had no covering when the game was purchased). All I know about the game is that the guy who had the prototype to the arcade of Marble Madness 2 supposedly had the pce/turbo version and he wouldn't dump neither rom. This was of course many years ago on zophar domain's message board (mid to late 90s ish?) and to this day I bet whoever he is probably will never dump the roms. BTW, sorry for the delayed response, been real busy at work as of late just got home. ^^
As for the preservation of the game, I think I have things under control lol. This ain't my first rodeo fellas. I've purchased, dumped, and preserved hundreds of prototypes over the years. This is nothing new for me.
Now, back to my original post....
Can anyone fill me in on other owners of the game? Someone mentioned early on in the thread that there are "very few" of these out there. Well, how few? Was there a Yahoo Japan auction? What other history can you tell me about the game.
I have more pics and screen shots that I will be slowly leaking over course of the day/week. I'm really interested in the history of the game at the moment though, not it's potential distribution. No offense meant of course, just don't want to put the carriage in front of the horse is all.
I read at one point that there was a Yahoo Japan auction "A long time ago" for a Marble Madness prototype, but I'm wondering if it's all a bunch of internet lore at this point.

Quote from: esteban on 03/13/2012, 12:17 AMI agree, the psp remake didn't do it enough justice, we really need something like this to get the pce/tg16 homebrewn scene kicking. I for one, would love to see a remake of 1-3 like they did for the megadrive, but super cd style with cutscenes for the robot intros oh my! Or wackier yet, do a Punchout! clone featuring the characters from the bonk series and call it Bonked!Quote from: TurboXray on 03/05/2012, 03:50 PMYou know, Megaman and other NES games that I've done aren't exactly a secret. I've posted about it on multiple forums over the years and it really didn't generate much interest from what I could tell outside of small handful of people. But I continued to work on tweaking the emulation such on Megaman... because that's my baby. I did it for myself. I play and have played the crap out of MM on my PCE/SGX/Duo system. I mean, all this originally started out as 'hey, look what you can do on the PCE' sort of thing. But it turned into something for myself. I.e. it became a real project instead of just a 'demo' per se. Megaman 1 holds a special place in my memories because besides SMB, it was the first game I had when I bought the NES for myself. I spent that whole summer non stop playing MM, SMB, and Zelda 1.I think there are a bunch of factors that determine the extent to which a project gains an audience. I will admit that, until recently, I generally did not spend much time examining emulation/homebrew topics. I read about "NES on PCE", but I never did anything beyond reading/commenting. Simply put, due to limited time, I prioritized the games immediately (physically) in front of me and I didn't have time to consider anything else. I said to myself, "Later, in the future, I'll check out the NES on PCE stuff."
Anyway, so this MM 'project' has been around for a couple of years. I don't know why it's getting more attention now. Is it because people thought it was a real unreleased beta for the SCD (my blog is getting a lot of traffic for it. Forums, google, etc)? I have Megaman 2 in the works, all prep'd up, and could probably have it up and running within a week (with probably some minor glitches that would have to be worked out in the emulation core. It always works that way. A new game, more emulation support on the back end). I guess I'm subconsciously holding it for ransom or whatever >_>. I dunno. It does irritate me that a lot of the past responses about MM 1 have been, 'mm1 is ok, but mm2 would be great' - etc. I actually do want to upgrade Megaman 1. If I did do Megaman 2, I don't think it needs any upgrading. And, like nat said, other than novelty - what's the point of playing it on the PCE when you can just play it on NES or the Megaman collection for whatever system? I think that holds true for a lot of people (myself excluded though).
Without sustained support (folks playing and commenting and actively promoting), I can see awareness of a project fade away into the ether.
Next, we have the general lack of love for Mega Man (relative to, say, MM2). Sad, but true. I say, "Do not release MM2 until later!" because you (we) need to foster and nurture some love for MM1.
For the record, the prospect of "upgrading" MM1 with enhanced graphics and music is thrilling.
Quote from: esteban on 03/10/2012, 07:28 AMI don't think you folks haven't mentioned beat-em-ups yet...that was a huge genre back in the day and PCE/TG-16 would have benefitted from a "killer" beat-em-up or two.Lol, most of the games on that list are shooters. Time only tell if the turbo was released a whole year earlier than the Genesis. Lets not forget that Nintendos hardcore licensing was a deterrent back then and even when the turbo was released in 89. Eliminate that deterrent, and we could have seen a much different system.
Where was our "Fighting Streets of Rage" techno-dance infused beat-em-up?
Sadly, even if the TG-16 managed to have a few "killer" titles in the popular genres of the time, I don't think it would have had enough momentum to compete with Sega and Nintendo. Even if TG-16 launched X-mas 1988...would it have been able to compete with NES?
NES was a juggernaut and I know I would have chosen to stick with NES over TG-16 simply because NES had an insanely awesome library of titles. Mega Man II (NES) stole the show in 1988! What would TG-16 offer us?
I hate to be pessimistic, but I don't think PCE/TG-16 would have been successful without a healthy serving of LUCK (a runaway success like Legendary Axe? Alien Crush?)
Check out Best PCE game released in 1988 and tell me if any title could compete with the superb titles on NES...
