I'm very happy this will be enjoyed. It was an extra for me, and it was cool to include some great games to go with it too. Have fun FiftyQuid :)
#2
On hold for the time being.
#3
Hi all,
Hoping to pass along the following to someone who will appreciate. It is an extra for me.

Up for sale is a US TurboExpress with wriststrap. The unit is in excellent condition and works, except the volume is very very low, which is typical of these old systems until the capacitors get replaced. After I bought it, it took a while for the screen to come up (probably because nobody has run electricity through it in 20 years), but now it pretty much works like a charm, except for the low volume. No major cosmetic damage to speak of, battery cover is intact.

I am including a nice starter lot of games too, all complete w/ case and manual (no boxes) and in very nice shape, with Hucard covers:

KEITH COURAGE (with comic!)
PAC LAND
BONK'S REVENGE
SPLATTERHOUSE

The total lot is priced at $100 shipped in the US, available to members in the US. Paypal only with confirmed/verified addresses please.

Price is firm.
If you are interested, please PM :) I do have a pic I can forward upon request for the lot.
Thanks for looking everyone :)
Sincerely
John

GONE... thanks guys!
PunkCryborg... appreciate the offer my friend but roflmao is taking care of my sticker :)

Hey guys,

This is a weird one, I know.
Long story short, I just this week completed my complete US Turbografx collection! (hooray)

The one thing I'm missing is a case for the game "Timeball". I have a blank case but I need the Timeball sticker for the side so it goes with the others!
And, I happen to have an extra Timeball hu (with sleeve)!

Sooooo....
if any of you have an unused Timeball "sparky sticker", or a Timeball case (no manual needed), I will trade the hucard straight up for it! We both pay our own shipping of course.

First one to PM gets it...
Thanks guys!
John

Hey, thanks Bardoly, really appreciate the lookout.
DARKWING DUCK FOUND! Now just Somer Assault... cart+sleeve and manual is it guys! Thanks for everyone's help so far.
#7
This is just speculation guys, but I once bought and opened a brand new Turbo Duo, with the Gate of Thunder pack in of course, and it did NOT have that little card. The copy of the game I have now DOES have that card. Perhaps it was only included when bought seperately from the Duo system?
#8
Bump... Darkwing Duck or Somer Assault anyone?
#9
Hi Bardoly, thanks for the interest. I don't need a New Adventure Island box unfortunately but I'm sure there are those here who do. All PMs replied, and edited my wants above to current. I appreciate everyone's interest.

Hello all,
I am very close to finishing my US Turbografx-16 collection and would like your help in polishing it off. Here is what I need:

Battle Royale (case,manual,cart)
Darkwing Duck (manual, cart)
Hit the Ice (manual ONLY)
Somer Assault (manual, cart)
Timeball (case and manual ONLY)

If you have any of these available, please PM and let me know your price. As you can see with the exception of Darkwing Duck and Somer Assault, these items are not crazy/rare expensive items but I just haven't come across them for some reason or another.
I do have pretty good spread of cardboard boxes for Turbo games. I may be willing to trade em toward some of the items above. I'm sorry I don't have a list, but if you can give me an idea of some game boxes you are looking for I will check and see!

Thanks for the help everyone, take care!

EDIT - a set of the Sparky stickers + cases for the "non jewel" case Hus would be sweet too... :)

Well, that's the last time I try selling something on this site. It's a shame, as I like the fans to get this stuff, and people who have dealt with me in the past know that I have been more than fair. I have probably given away more Turbo stuff for free than the loudmouths in this thread have in their whole collection, but I'm not going to bother when I'm accused of being a dick for wanting a certain price on what, despite you want to believe, is a very rare, valuable and collectible item.

Those who have contacted me with trade items for my remaining boxes, I look forward to working out great deals with each of you. As you can see from my list on the front page, all I need is a bunch of commons, and I'm happy to trade some of my rare boxes toward some of those items.

This is my last selling post. Grow up, everyone.
#12
Some of you obviously just PMed me without any genuine interest in the item, just so you could take the time to write me back, tell me to shove the box "up my ass", and post on here what a jackass I am. Really nice.

At the end of the day, there were a lot of interested parties on this item, and you are hurting those people because next time I will think twice about trying to sell a rare item on here. It's easier just to ebay it than listen to this totally childish criticism and whining.

For those of you who wrote me and were gentlemen, I appreciate the interest.
#13
PM just sent to all interested parties, with a link to photos. Sorry to keep you all waiting so long. Thanks everyone.
#14
Hi guys, quick update. I plan on sending all interested parties a PM after I get home from work tonight. That is the only free time I think I will have available this week. So, look for it around 6:00 p.m. eastern time. Thanks everyone for your interest. Regards, John
#15
Quick update everyone. I have received a LOT of interest and I really appreciate it. I haven't yet responded to any PMs. What I intend to do is give this about another 24 hours and send all interested parties an email with my sale price and photos. This email will be sent simultaneously to all to make it fair. At that point, whatever person is first to offer what I am asking (or if nobody does, the highest offer?) is who I will sell the box to.

Thanks again everyone for your interest. Best regards, John

Dear all,

I am very fortunate to own a complete copy of US Magical Chase. I have owned this game since about 2007 and bought it from a fellow who bought it new upon release in 1993.

Due to financial reasons, and other considerations, I am strongly considering selling the cardboard box to this game. It is too much of a pain to hunt down the other boxes I'm missing and therefore I have come to terms with having a jewel+manual+cart based collection. I will keep the cartridge and manual.

Here is my dilemma. I would like to sell this to a community member rather than ebay it. However, I know how price sensitive people are on this site, and I won't mince words saying that I want a lot of money for this box. If I come right out with a price, I feel there is a pretty good chance I will wind up in that gouging thread and I don't want nor need that. However, I also hate selling threads where people say "make me an offer." So I am torn. In conclusion, I would like to get PMs from those of you who are interested in the item, and then I will perhaps contact you each with my price. I might change my mind on how to go about this but that seems to make the most sense for now.

I will, of course, provide hi-res photos to interested parties. This box is pretty special. It still has the outer shrink-wrap and hangtag on it, but was carefully opened at the very top to remove the game. The plastic inner tray is included. The box is basically in perfect shape with the following "flaws": the flap at the top has minor creasing from being opened to remove the game. Also, on the face of the box toward the bottom right are some marks, that almost look as if someone was writing with a ball point pen on top of the box before it was shrink-wrapped. You can't even see these "indentations" unless you hold it up to the light. The box is kind of wavy/curvy as is typical of all Turbo games released without a jewel case.

Please PM me if you are genuinely interested in this box. No, I am not a reseller, but a Turbo fan since I got one at 10 years old in 1989. So please go easy on the criticism.

I also have many more boxes I haven't yet listed but I may be interested in trading for the last few items I need to complete the US collection. Those items are as follows:

USA NTSC TURBOGRAFX-16/DUO COMPLETE GAMES NEEDED
================================================

Addams Family (CD)
Battle Royale
Darkwing Duck
It Came from the Desert (CD)
Jack Nicklaus Turbo Golf (CD)
JB Harold Murder Club (CD)
John Madden Football (Super CD)
Somer Assault
Sonic Spike Volleyball

TURBOGRAFX-16/DUO ORPHANS NEEDED
================================
B=box, J=jewel case, M=manual, C=cart

Hit the Ice (M)
Timeball (J,M)
Veigues Tactical Gladiator (C)

Maybe some of you who have the above items can let me know what cardboard boxes you are after and I will let you know if I have them. Thanks everyone! Kind regards, John

The comparisons to Darkwing, and Order are merely for similar print run totals, nothing more.
I understand, but I have heard the argument made that it doesn't make sense that those games don't sell for the same money as MC given the similar print runs/release date etc. My point was there are more relevant factors than just the production quantity alone.
#18
I thought I would chime in and just give some comments, unrelated to the "value/rarity" argument and discussion...

for me, there are some things about Magical Chase that make it quite unique in the Turbo library and fun to own. This is just my take for what it's worth, many of you might think these are ridiculous but so be it.

1. This is a late release third party title made by Quest. Quest went on to make the Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre series, which I am quite fond of. Its quite cool to see that by 1993 TTI was allowing the developers to put the actual logo on the front of the box. I'm not sure that any other Quest game in the US for any system has their name right on the front of the box.

2. There are somewhat major changes to the graphics between the US and Japanese versions of Magical Chase. For example, stage 1 has a kind of brick/mossy look to the bottom part of the screen, versus a cartoony tetris-like look in the Japanesve version. I seem to recall other differences, such as the item shop, but it has been a little while since I've played it. Also both versions of the game generally has some very impressive graphics for the console. For example, even the stage 1 miniboss has a very cool spinning animation effect reminiscent of the SNES mode 7. It begs the question why these changes were made to a very late gen release on a dying console. I like to think its because perhaps someone at TTI saw this as an opportunity to really show off the system technologically as one that can stand toe to toe and even exceed many SNES / Genesis titles of the day in the sound and graphics department.

3. The last days of the Turbo suffered from major identity crisis problems. TTI couldn't decide what they wanted. We had tons of pretty crappy Amiga ports, FMV games, weird US developed titles, and then the gold nugget sprite based titles from Japan. The good Japanese game ports were few and far between by 1993 and we all know that these are the games that hold up the best today. MC falls into that category (unlike a game like Darkwing Duck, which some people have compared MC to on the rarity side of things). MC got the royal treatment in this regard.

The fact that not everyone has the means to own the game is absolutely unfortunate. However, the game does have some unique aspects and merit besides the collectability aspect. That's part of the reason why the frequent comparisons to games like Order of the Griffon and Darkwing Duck aren't really spot on... just my opinion.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Re: Soldier Blade Value!?
04/17/2011, 03:56 PM
I think a lot of that fellow's auctions went for such high amounts because they were clean copies that had the boxes. The boxes certainly can add a big premium. I think for those who want to play the game, a loose cart or cart+manual can still be had at a reasonable price. Heck, I sold a complete boxed copy for about $67 or so on ebay within the past year if I recall...

These auctions really make those custom cases all that more attractive as an option for those who still want a complete look to their collection but don't necessarily care about the cardboard boxes....

Not enough is said about Dynastic Hero as a game. It is a GREAT game. Hopefully this fellow will play through it and enjoy it.

You have to be a scumbag to sell a CIB Magical Chase for $140? Let's get real here.

Due to extreme lack of interest, the games are now on ebay. Thanks all for looking
#24
I sure am, but I didn't get a PM on there. Didn't post this thread over there yet.
#25
I will consider selling the games. Make me an offer on any items listed above.

Hey guys,
It's finally a time to stick the fork in my Turbo collection. Here is a FULL list of titles I need:

Addams Family (CD)
Battle Royale
Darkwing Duck
Somer Assault
Sonic Spike Volleyball
Veigues Tactical Gladiator
It Came from the Desert (CD)
JB Harold Murder Club (CD)
Jack Nicklaus  Turbo Golf (CD)
John Madden Duo CD Football (CD)
Last Alert (CD)
Riot Zone (CD)
Vasteel (must include map, manual and outer sleeve) CD

I STRONGLY prefer that my games have cardboard boxes. If not, they must at least have the manual and original case (if there is one).

I want to TRADE my extras towards the games I need above. >2 game trades much preferred because I don't want to go to the post office a million times. The more games you can trade that I need, the better deal I will give you on my end for trade goods. I am willing to be VERY generous, but I need to be hooked up as well so I can forget about Turbo collecting! Vasteel is my most wanted game... I will trade heavily for a complete copy with outer sleeve.

MY TRADE BAIT! (all US, most in great condition, some cracked cases etc)

SOLDIER BLADE complete with box (box average condition, manual and cart in great shape)
SHOCKMAN complete with box (same as above)
DEAD MOON cart with avg. box and plastic tray

TIME CRUISE + box (worn)

Send me a PM if you are interested!

A lot of people selling expensive goods on here have been subjected to criticism, right or wrong... myself included. I still enjoy this site nevertheless.

I bought my Dynastic Hero for $350 about 7 years ago now. At that time, that was a *crazy* price. I guess some people might want to call me an idiot or a moron, but I have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it (I played through it the week I bought it and have popped it in many times since) and I could probably sell it and make some money if I really had to. Does that make me stupid?

Anyway, good luck with the sale. The moral of the story is nobody should get too worked up over this (even though $500 may have been a bit on the high side :) ).

Someone here should jump on this. Not my auction, but that price can't be beat even for a loose working Duo.
#29
Here's the real question... how much are you guys willing to pay for official Magical Chase box *shrinkwrap*?

I'd consider carefully peeling the shrinkwrap off of mine, if the price was right...  Mine is not sealed, mind you, but neatly sliced at the top, and the shrinkwrap is still tight and shiny. Anyone? Anyone?
#30
That's a pretty mangled box, too..
#32
Still a huge fan Chris, keep up the good work!
A lot of us can't wait for DVD volume 2...  =D>
#33
Some of you guys are far too quick to judge and/or pigeonhole people.

I bought my Dynastic Hero back in 2003 for $350. At the time, it was close to a high-end price for the game. Yes, I could have bought the Japanese version for about $20. Here are the reasons I bought it:

1. I wanted to play it. In English, NOT Japanese. This is actually very important to me. I hate playing games in Japanese.
2. I am a huge Wonder Boy series fan, and I own, and have beaten, every other game in the series released in the US.
3. I am a huge Turbo Grafx / Duo fan, ever since I got my Turbo in 1989.
4. I had wanted it ever since TZD sold them new for $50 (stupid me - should have bought it then).
5. It was one of the last games I needed to complete my complete Turbo set.

I was super excited when the game arrived, and it was the only game I played for the next 3 days or so until I finished it. It's been on my shelf ever since, although I have gone back and played it a few times since then.

The same sort of story holds true for a lot of games in my collection. I have been collecting a very long time and am very fortunate to have amassed quite a few very valuable titles, including 70+ Neo Geo AES games, a few of which cost even more than what I paid for DH. Did I play them? Of course I did. I can hold my own in any KOF, and I am unbeatable at Last Blade 2 with about 8 different characters. I also don't give a damn about "prestige" of owning games. In fact, this is one of the only times I have ever posted anything about my personal collection on any website, even Neo-geo.com, which I have been a moderator at for 9 years. There is a collection page there where people "show off" their stuff, but I have never been interested in other people gawking at my collection.

I have been fortunate enough, financially speaking, where I haven't needed to sell a game from my personal collection in years to free up cash, etc. However, if I did sell the DH now, I could probably get another $150 out of it above what I paid, due to its flawless condition and current market trends. In the meantime, if I get the urge to play it, I can pop it in anytime I want. If something crazy happens and I need money, it basically works out to me being paid $150 to own, play and enjoy a rare game for 5 years. Do these things make me stupid for buying it? Do I have more money than I know what to do with? Absolutely not.

Don't be so quick to conclude that people paying hundreds for games are doing so because they are idiots, or because they just want the "prestige", or that they don't want to play it, etc. It simply isn't always true.
#34
Jeez, so much hostility. I, for one, enjoy looking at the high res pics of these games. Nice job, Roy.

Super Air Zonk.....23 1/2 (complete)

/p1010376w.jpg /p1010378a.jpg

I do.

Managed to grab this beauty for $60 off Ebay....without manual.  :(

Luckily geddon was generous enough to send his Super Air Zonk copy for free. So, Kudos to you, my friend!  =D>  =D>  =D>

It's been nearly one year since starting on the Turbo box hunt. Over that time, crazy sh!t keeps popping up including Ebay, where resellers have justified this hyper-inflation as "appreciation in growth". To that I say....screw them! Adding to that I'll list the prices for the games I've acquired and just to be sure there's no more for doubt (or excuses), let's stick to some of the more recent stuff.

Air Zonk $20
Jackie Chan $11
Ys III $13
Time Cruise $20
New Adventure Island $20
Raiden $23
Chase HQ $28
Shockman $25
Soldier Blade x2 $70

Let's not forget Super Air Zonk $70
(Yes its $10 more than what I told ya but that's how much was willing to pay for it.)
Ah, looks great! Glad the manual could be paired up with a nice CD and case... enjoy it!
#36
Perhaps I jumped in too soon. I didn't realize that Roy had gotten a favorable price on the loose cart from a forum member. That being the case, yes, it does kind of suck that it is up on ebay now, rather than a similarly favorable price being offered to another forum member in need.

So please modify my response accordingly. :)

Interesting metaphor you've got there. 'Cuz you're about to be drummed out of here!
If you think a few angry individuals can run me off, you're wrong.  Im here because I enjoy the system, not because I seek anyones approval.
A few??? Has anyone spoke up to support you man????
Sparky, there are people that choose to speak up and there are people that choose to remain silent.  Just because people don't want to come out and be fucking chastised by the few angry people does NOT mean that I am not supported.  It just means they choose not to speak up and be trampled on.

People here have taken whatever they wanted from what they have read and just ran with it.  There are a couple of people that know what the truth is.  There are also a few monkeys running around throwing poo.  Do they know the full story?  Have they bothered to try and find out.  Or is what you really see here people just throwing stones?
Noone is trying to ask me any reasoning on anything I have done.  Read it all yourself Sparky, people all over me.
Roy, I warned you about this!

Listen, anytime there is something Turbo or PCE related that is selling for big bucks, there is ALWAYS massive complaining and bitching from people on this site. I've gotten my share of flack for the same time of thing. This is a great site, and I can certainly understand people's anger at certain games being crazy expensive. But, it's just the way it is. These things are collectibles now and a lot of them can go for big bucks. It's a pity not every Turbo fan can afford a Magical Chase, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with Roy trying to make as much money as he can off his loose one. Sometimes that is the only way to expand your collection and get new games.

Hi all,
I am looking for a complete US Vasteel.
It *must* have the outer cardboard sleeve. OR, I would even buy the sleeve seperately, if you own the whole game and don't care so much about having the sleeve.
I will pay top dollar. Even for just that piece of cardboard. :)
PM me!
Thanks,
John

Funny, I bought a complete Champions Forever Boxing from him a few months ago myself. I think it was around the same price $20. Seemed pretty reasonable as I had fits trying to find this game complete. It was a smooth transaction and the game was top quality condition.

Another awesome review. I concur with your sentiments totally. DE2 is an awesome game, definitely some of the best cinematics on the system too.

You know, your review style almost reminds me of Rick Steves' Europe on the Travel Channel. Your narration style is strangely similar, you're just talking games instead of European sightseeing. LOL
#48
About 2-3 years ago methinks, D-Lite sold a sealed one for $600. That was the last time I remember a sealed one selling.
The last complete copy I remember sold on ebay for $729.99 buy it now. That was maybe 9 months ago or so?
Tough to say what yours would fetch. I would guess between $800 to $1000. The game remains very scarce and in high demand. I'm not sure that there would be *that* much of a premium over a complete copy, however - probably not a huge glut of sealed TG collectors out there like in the NES / SNES world.
#49
Just my 2 cents. I think your reviews are top notch - keep them coming. It's obvious you connect with the things that make these games really special. Keep it up! =D> =D>
#50
The last complete copy I saw on ebay (April/May of this year) sold for $725...  #-o
Finding a truly complete copy, with a box that hasn't been run over by a truck, is really a different story altogether. Tough to put a price on stuff like this because there are at least a few deep pocketed collectors who want it.

EDIT:
Looks like there still are some awesome deals to be had on ebay...
