Buy/Sell/Trade / Re: WTB Canadian Items

The quest continues, I've found a couple items and updated the list.  Still looking for any in the list you may have.

If it's you're only copy and you're willing to trade for the US version, I'm sure we can work something out.

Thanks!

I thought these were nicely done.  Props to the designer.

https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/1839902-super-engine-cd  (or you can get the cup)

The original ones pop up from time to time, but they disappear pretty fast.  Good luck if you're looking for one of those.  They have the TG16 logo on one side, and a game logo on the other... Splatterhouse, Bloody Wolf, Devil's Crush, and Legendary Axe II I think were the only options.  Could only find pics of 2:

Do I resemble that?  I guess.  It's ok to love PCE however you want.

You can't hate on "cardboard love" and hate on "emulator love" at the same time.  Turbo love of all kinds has its place.

Good luck to your hunt Kisaku.

I'm personally at the point where I am trying to be a Turbo archeologist and find the different variants released.  It's cool to find a new variant, and surprisingly it still happens.

There are a couple of these available for sale, and have been for years at various prices.  Since nobody is buying them, they probably aren't worth more than mentioned complete (that is, with the floppy drive, AC adapter, and cables.

I have one of these that was part of a bulk lot, but mine doesn't have the floppy, AC, or cables. but it was basically free in the lot I got.

It is a copier that allows you to transfer the hucard to a 3.5" floppy disk.  I assume that it also needs to be connected to a computer with software as well in order to perform the transfer to disk.  That said, it's gonna be a museum piece for most people.  There are several vintage copier devices that spring up time to time.  All are basically the same technology since that was the only way to store portable data at the time.

I haven't looked to see if there are modern copiers that allow you to dump roms for games that haven't already been captured.  Are there any left that haven't been captured?  Maybe the Kid's Station games?  I think that the retro freak console can store the rom off of a hucard, but I'm not sure if you can copy the rom to a flash drive so it can be shared.

dshadoff, if yours is complete, I might be interested in it - since I am one of those museum freaks, but either way good luck if you decide to sell it.

If you're gonna get a paper cut, better with a Turbo box than with a Feka box.

Miracle_Warrior - Thanks a lot for checking for me.  There's a lot of it our there.  Most people are surprised it exists.  Frankly, I am too.  But NEC didn't neglect Canada - they just had the same fate there that they did in the US.

I'm not new at this.  I've collected Turbo since 1991.  Before a lot of the members were alive.  Ha!

Necro, we all have our quirks in what we like.... nobody needs anything but food, water, and air. eh?  Do have Motteke done yet?

I personally think you can enjoy turbo anyway you want.  Hell, game with an emulator if that's what your means are.  Great if you can play on an original console with an everdrive.  If you want to rub your nads on a cardboard box, go for it.

For me, I love documenting stuff.  Knowing that it's out there is a big part of the fun.  If I see a copy of Night Creatures made for the Canadian market, I'll first say neat!  Then I'll say why?  Personally, I'd like to have it in my collection, but I wouldn't rob a bank to have it.  Somebody else might, and, eh if that's your thing... so be it.  The important part is to enjoy and obey.

I'd estimate that less than 10% of my collection is non-NEC, and of that, probably 50% is Husdson Soft games for other consoles.  I'm not sure it's possible for me to "complete" a collection even as focused as mine is.  But if you just want to play Soldier Blade on an everdrive through a repaired core grafx, and that's enough for you to feel your collection is complete - then be happy.  You need not much else.

Kept the original receipt.  It's great how obsessive we turbo collectors have been.... even when we bought these things 25 years ago.

I don't think I kept any of my receipts, but I do have a shipping box from a TTI order... before Turbo Zone Direct was even around.  Keeping it was just a fluke though.  I used it to store something, and came across it when I moved several years ago.  It's now in the turbo archive though.

But it's in a blister pack.  Probably from not enough sunscreen.  That was the 80's/90's.

Quote from: guestThere is a CDN variant release for the TG16 CD unit. The back looks quite different, I'll see if I can post a pic if you're interested. I know someone selling theirs too, but they want stuff equally as difficult to find for trade
NoSexGex, there are 2 Canadian Turbo boxes that I know of.  The first (I think) was actually printed with bilingual text.  There may have been a low run of these and they ran out, which resulted in a stickered version.  The French text was applied on the back over the image of the television to meet the bilingual requirements of the Canadian market.  There are actually 2 versions of Keith Courage as well.  I assume for the same reason.  The preprinted box included Keith Courage with a fully translated manual.  The stickered box included a black and white Keith Courage insert more consistent with later released titles.

If you can get your friend to confirm what he/she has (preprinted or sticker, and if with a Canadian Keith Courage - which version) that would help me confirm what I have seen.  I have plenty of trade material if either of you are interested.

Lost Monkey, I was so hoping that your Sidearms or Sherlock were different, but it appears they were just import titles rather than separate Canadian releases.  The only thing I see different is the 58-1569 sticker - probably a store sticker rather than a release sticker. I do have the Canadian version of the other titles you mentioned, so I don't need scans of those.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Re: WTB Canadian Items

There was an article in one of the gaming mags BITD about SideArms already being out of print.  They probably didn't move enough copies back then to justify separate packaging.  I wonder if the copy you got a Radio Shack was an import.  Do you still have your copy Lost Monkey?  I'd love to see images of the box and manual to see if there are any differences.

Black Tiger, can you get me pics of the Canadian Sherlock?  Were the newspapers translated?  That would make it the most substantial Canadian version.

For sure there is a Canadian version of the Turbo Booster.  If they didn't make the Booster Plus, yet another epic fail.  I'm hoping that they did offer the Booster Plus.

It's also interesting that the black and white inserts don't completely align with the plastic trays.  Several cased games including Impossamole and Andre Panza got the insert rather than a full manual.  I'll create a thread with the info I have confirmed so far.

Can either of you confirm existence of the Bilingual packaging of the Turbo Express or any of her accessories?

Canadian Manual - is in French.
Canadian Insert - is French Text printed black and white (box for these titles is same as US but with UPC sticker)

I'm listing just the parts I need, but of course, I'd be willing to buy/trade the game more complete if you prefer.  If you don't want to part with the item, I would appreciate good quality scans for these items.  Some titles that I hope will be easier are in bold.

How about these?
Terrestrial Defense Force 2
Linda 3
Might and Magic III
Wonder Boy III  (or for that matter Adventure Island)

I was in college when the turbo came out.  Babbages, Service Merchandise, EB and TRU were really the only retail outlets locally in SC.  A couple mom and pop rental stores had games as well.  I had about 10 people into turbo just because of showing it off, but it never caught on.  Once NEC stopped the advertisements, availability really went downhill.
My buddy and I would occasionally drive up to Raleigh, NC to check out import games at Buy-Rite (we found out about it through the Turbo List.)  The guy sold things mail order too, but he was a piece of work dealing with over the phone.  His was by far the best selection of stuff, so I assume Raleigh had some market.  We ended up getting Drac, Shubibinman 3, Nexzr, Spriggan, Cho Aniki, Metal Stoker, and a bunch of other great games from him over several years.  He gave us each a hucard converter when we bought our first import hueys.

Franky, I thought you didn't need Les Tampons once you got Les Flashes.

Cool items!  Tolvatar is great to deal with!
#26
These are outstanding!  I will order one when they are available.

Any chance that one of the Chinese bootleg 4 in 1 titles could be hacked with different titles, then double that with your pce/us dual region concept?

The comparison of same titles concept is great (Zonk/Denjin would be another great pair), but it would also be cool to do titles exclusive in each region

Hana Taka Daka/Bomberman '94/Ninja Ryukenden/Gekisha Boy
Order of the Griffon/(ok, maybe this concept breaks down quickly.....)

Either way, they look great!

For the past 25 years, people robbed these from other games.  Thanks to that, Falcon is no longer $3.
#31
Bummer Lost, I hate to hear that.

On those later games, I'm guessing that the BW inserts were added by hand.  A shrinkwrap sticker was placed over the US version, then the box was re-sealed.  Maybe the English manual from your box fell out during that process.  TTI probably would have sent you a new manual if you had contacted them.
#32
I can (probably) fix that for you.

I'm looking for a few Canadian (French text) manuals (and bilingual boxes.)  If you have one that you would prefer to be in English, maybe we can make a trade.  I have tons of other trade goodies if you would rather trade for something different.

Oh, and if you really hate the item, I might be coerced to buy it (with other pieces if you insist) to get it off your mind.

B = Bilingual Retail Box
M = French Manual
I = French Black and White Insert (later versions of the game)

Here are the titles I am after in their Great White North form:
Aeroblasters MB
Ballistix MB
Battle Royale MB
Bloody Wolf M
Bomberman 93 I
Chase HQ I
Cratermaze B
Cyber Core MB [FOUND]
Deep Blue MB
Devil's Crush B
Double Dungeons M [FOUND]
Dragon's Curse MB
Falcon I
Final Lap Twin B
Galaga io MB
Ghost Manor I
Gunboat I
Hit The Ice I
It Came From The Desert MI (not sure if this came with insert or manual)
King of Casino MB
Legendary Axe M
Legendary Axe II M
R Type B
Soldier Blade IB [FOUND]
Super Star Soldier MB
Time Cruise IB [FOUND]
Timeball B
Valis III  MI (not sure if this came with insert or manual)
Ys III MI (not sure if this came with insert or manual)
(if you have the insert from any of the super rare titles, I'm missing most of those as well.)

Turbo Booster MB
Turbo Tap B
Turbo Stick B
Turbo Grafx CD MB
I have also identified 2 Canadian versions of the TG16 box.  I would be interested in the one with the French Text sticker placed over the image of the TV on the back of the box. - silly no?  The other version actually has bilingual text throughout the box.

I do have tons of other trade options too, so if you do have something above, let me know.

Also, here is the list of items that I have not yet been able to confirm if a Canadian version exists.  If you have a Canadian copy of any of these titles, I would love to see a picture of the back of the box or inside of the manual:

Addams Family
Andre Panza
Boxyboy
Cadash
Champions Forever Boxing
Chew-Man-Fu
China Warrior
Cosmic Fantasy 2
Exile
Fantasy Zone
Fighting Street
JB Harold Murder Club
Jack Nicklaus (Turbochip or CD)
Klax
Lords of the Rising Sun
Magical Dinosaur Tour
Military Madness
Night Creatures
Parasol Stars
Raiden
Sherlock Holmes
Side Arms
Sinistron
Sonic Spike
Talespin
Tricky Kick
Turrican
Ys III

I don't believe there are French manuals for any of the SCD titles.  If you have one, prove me wrong.  :)

Turbo Express or any of it's accessories
Turbo Booster Plus

I will try to work on getting images of some of those I have confirmed and post them in a different thread if anyone is interested.

And you are still reading.... if you really are looking to set up a trade, here are a couple non-Canadian scraps I am looking for:

Sash for the Turbo Duo box that showcases the free games
Laseractive Diagnostic Hucard  (crossing fingers that Beamer has a hookup for this)
Sealed US Super System 3.0 Card  - this is a joke, but seriously, Ive seen/confirmed every other single component ever produced for the turbo in a sealed state.  I'm just curious if it came with the manual packed inside the case like most things, our outside the shrinkwrap like GOT and Ys I&II pack ins.  Back in the day, I got my copy of the Sys 3.0 used, and they weren't available in the local stores here.  Deep deep mysteries we may never know...
#33
Yes, those are great!  I would be interested in either Zonk, GOT or LOT if they haven't been nabbed already.  Are you interested in/missing copies of Turbo Play/Turbo Force/Duo World?  I have dupes of a couple issues, or I am sure I could find a game you are looking for.

Regarding your sequencing, Bomberman actually had a logo with bomb on it, and bomberman 93 was just the cover font (though since it does not have the TurboGrafx logo, you could argue that 93 is the full art version.)

And any idea why there is a Black and a Red Champions Forever Boxing?

I've had a lot of success cleaning sleeves with a stripped down retr0brite:

Hydrogen Peroxide (stronger is better, but the pharmacy stuff works ok)
Oxyclean Powder
Glass container (I use a 10 gallon fish tank)
Bright sunlight/UV (in warm weather is best)

Let them soak all day.
Use another glass tray to hold them under the solution (bubbles form and they will float otherwise)

you can wash them a little with soap and water first if they are heavily soiled.

Rinse with water and dry completely (towel and air dry for several days) before putting the huey back in (it's hard to get all the water out of the pocket with just a towel, so don't skip the air dry step.

These were brown before the process.  Also, it wont clean ink, as you can see.

Yes, I would also be interested in the Vistar as well as the Daewoo Shuttle, Korean Duo-R, and any of the Korean controllers (particularly the Alpha stick), if you can find any of them.

Is the clip compatible with the original cases, and would you sell just replacement clips?

I've had nothing but the best experience with Arkhan.  Bummer to see/miss that you ended orders for such a great game!
