Quote from: esadajr on 07/11/2013, 09:25 AMTo the OP. You just have to fiddle a little bit more with SSF. It should work fine even on Win7 x64. It is the best Saturn emulator around.
Yeah, pretty much this. But you also have to essentially max out the emulator, and even then I think there was one more option that I had to manually adjust to get it working up to my level of satisfaction. I'm not saying it's perfect, and I'm not saying every game works, but it was good for me.

I built my PC in November 2009.

Power Quest on GBC.
It's actually a great fighting game that flew under the radar back in the day. I cut my fighting teeth on it back in 1999 as I was getting into Street Fighter Alpha 3. It's great for beginners, but it's solid enough for anybody to enjoy. It's got an interesting story mode with light RPG elements, too, but it's a fighter through and through.

I just want to know what widescreen mode does.

I'm still cleaning up a lot in the basement, but it's nothing compared to what some other people in my area went though. I lost some PS2, PS3, and GCN cases, instructions, and inserts (discs got wet but are fine) and a few other odds and ends, but other people lost everything in their homes, if not their entire homes :( Oh, and I lost my PCE Duo's power supply, but I can use my Genesis 2 power supply in the meantime. I'm going to check it out a little later just to make sure it all works. Then I'll get another power supply.
Hmmm let me check I might have a PCE duo supply floating around here somewhere. . . if I do I might be able to get it to you, (depending how far you are from New Brunswick) although it seems like your not in too much of a bind since you've got the genesis supply.
Thanks, man, but I've already got another Genesis 2 power supply on the way. My old power supply works, too. I played some Lords of Thunder last Friday.

It looks like the only power supply I lost this time was my 360 Slim's. A replacement for that is also on its way :)

I lost my SNES power supply last year, but that's been taken care of for over a year already.

Central NJ.

Some light spritzers of rain earlier, but nothing for a few hours. I'd only be in the outskirts area of the storm anyway, so maybe I'm located in an area where there's a break in activity.

I moved some things upstairs. Not a whole lot. After last year, I started keeping things a bit higher normally. My basement doesn't get a huge amount of water regardless.

They have them in the USA warehouse but are out of stock at the moment, they've been selling damn fast. Compatible with Hakko tips.

Word is that they're not junk. A dozen or so people from an Australian arcade forum I frequent purchased them (at $25 delivered who could resist) and they've all said that they perform brilliantly. I'll be getting one myself once they get stock back in to the Aussie warehouse.
That's a bootleg Hakko 936.

Oh yeah, holding heat is a plus. At home, I'm amazed by how much heat gets zapped by my sponge. At work, it's a total non-issue.
#9
My Radio Shack iron that I use at home takes forever to heat up, and sometimes I think it isn't even done heating up by the time I'm done. The old Hakko 936 I use at work heats up in 45 seconds.

Radio Shack iron tips suck. I get much more mileage out of the tips I use at work.

If yours continues to work for you, then go for it. Mine did, too, until I used the Hakko. It's just that much better.

At work, I use an older version of the Hakko FX-888.

http://www.techni-tool.com/821SO888

I've been meaning to get myself an FX-888 for home use. It looks like a toy, but I've heard it's every bit as good as the Hakko 936 which it replaced, and I freaking love the Hakko 936.

I've given thought to that. All in due time.

I also gave more thought to the being able to enable two levels at once, and it probably won't work. It hit me in the shower this morning, believe it or not. The non-oscillating one is going to be fed no matter what. Oh well.

I played a bunch of Ys IV today, and I've had no more problems with my I button. In addition, I plugged in my original PCE pad, and it still had the I button problem. I fiddled with and pressed on the turbo switch a little bit, and it immediately responded to being touched. I button action improved so much. I wonder why it's seemingly always the I button. Are turbo switches on the I button always this bad? Even among multiple types of controllers? Or am I just bad luck?

If nobody knows what enabling multiple modes at one time does, I might try it next weekend. I hope turbo low or turbo high would take priority over no turbo.

Maybe I'll see what I can do to improve turbo switch functionality. I'd like to keep it as stock as possible. The funny thing is, two of my Blasters are new old stock. Well, maybe that's what they are. Old. They might need some contact cleaner regardless.

I was having issues with the I button being unresponsive at times with what appeared to be all of my controllers. I swapped the controller port from my Duo-R with the fifth port on my multitap. It's a tighter fit, but it didn't help.

I had thought I ruled out the controllers as being at fault, but after fiddling with the turbo switch on one controller, I began suspecting the circuit wasn't closing when in normal mode. I found that when no state is selected, the button does not respond at all.

To try fixing this, I cut some soldermask off of the two appropriate traces and jumpered them with some wire. Since then, the button has been properly responsive. However, while doing this fix, I removed the switch entirely. Therefore, turbo isn't operable on the I button.

The fix I did wouldn't block the switch from moving if I put it back in. I was just wondering what would end up happening if more than one state was enabled at one time. Remember, the normal state is hardwired.

Do things go haywire? Does any damage result?

Just a little background information. I am using this fix on a Blaster controller. However, I believe I experienced this problem on a normal PC Engine two button turbo-equipped controller. I know I experienced this on at least one of my other Blasters, and maybe it happened on my third Blaster, too. It's still possible that it's a problem with the console, but I'm fairly convinced that it was the controller or controllers at this point. I may have been mistaken with the other controllers, and this fixed one is really performing well.

Also, based on information from GameSX and Deathskull Labs, I imagine the I button might not be the only button to fail if it was a problem with the console. Up would also fail, and I've had no problem with up. I guess if pin 2 only has problems when low, it could be the console, but I'm not convinced that's what's going on.

I think it was 1998. It was at the local library where my mom worked. I went to Nintendo's website and Game Sages. It was awesome. I barely knew how to use it, but it was awesome.

They seriously needed to defrag their hard drive, though. It was slow as molasses.

I didn't get it at home until June 2000... on my Dreamcast! My parents didn't want to buy a PC. We eventually got one around October of that year. I lucked out and got it right before a long 5 day weekend because of a teacher convention or something. Once again, I didn't really know what I was doing, but I set it up without any help.

Quote from: jperryss on 08/13/2012, 03:33 PMIgnoring the current prices of AES systems and carts for a minute, how much does just a consolized MVS go for?
It varies. If you go high end with the Analogue Interactive, it'll set you back quite a bit. If you get a less extravagant one, it can cost less.

I got lucky and got a consolized 4 slot for $400 earlier this year. If you aren't such a huge Neo Geo fan as I am, I wouldn't recommend any CMVS or AES, though.

This new Neo Geo X sounds interesting. I doubt I'll get it this year, but if the word of mouth is good, maybe I'll get it next year.

Somehow I don't believe this. I've gotten enough crap games from Gamestop over the years, and I even got an Xbox 1 with an active XBL account on it. I was literally able to play on XBL because the previous owner still had their info on there, and somehow it was still being paid up.

Quote from: tpivette on 07/14/2012, 10:28 PMHow many Ys games are out for the PSP? I've been contemplating picking one up for the Final Fantasy games, but if theyre are several Ys releases as well, then that solidifies the deal!
Four US-released games.
Ys I&II
Ys: Oath in Felghana
Ys: Ark of Napishtim (released in 2006 or so by Konami, horrible port, play off of a memory stick if you must play it, PS2 version highly recommended)
Ys Seven

All except Ark were developed by Falcom and released in the US by Xseed. It might also be worth noting that Ys I&II could possibly benefit from being played off of a memory stick. It has some performance issues when played off of the UMD, but the effects aren't intrusive and game breaking at all like they were on the Ark port. I only played the UMD version once and have not tried playing it off of my memory stick yet to verify the performance increase myself.

If you must play Ark on the PSP, use CFW and rip the UMD to the memory stick. You'll be glad you did.

Quote from: Frank_fjs on 07/12/2012, 12:25 AMThere's replacement cart slots for many systems, such as the NES, Master System, Mark III, Neo Geo etc, it's strange that no-one has mass produced one for the Saturn.
For the MVS? If so, could you please provide a link? The last time I heard, the maker of the recent Daedalus MVS to AES converter has replacement slots in the pipeline, but they aren't ready yet.

I've got a 4-slot, so I've got enough slots that it will take a long time for them to wear out, but I do want to stock up on replacements for when the day comes that I'll need to replace the slots.

Wow, I didn't know you could still get them new in 1999.  I picked up a used one in '97 and don't remember seeing them new back then.  But my memory is probably fuzzy. :)
Yeah. I really lucked out. $50. That and a few games cleaned out all of my birthday money, but it was so worth it. I didn't even care that the Dreamcast was a few weeks away. I wanted Daytona USA and Virtua Fighter 2 at home so bad, and I was extremely happy to finally play them at home. Many games were dirt cheap at the time, too. Sealed Daytona USA CCE was about 10 bucks. VF2 was about 1 buck used. No joke. Toys R Us was clearancing out the games like mad. Worldwide Soccer (the first one) was cheap enough for me to buy in my first round of games the day I bought the system, too. I was even able to score a disc-only Guardian Heroes for about 10 bucks a few months after I got the system. That kicked butt.

I installed a switch-based region mod and have resigned myself to never removing the memory cartridge from the console. That means I'll never play the games that use the 1M or 4M carts, but that's okay. I can play other versions of Capcom 4M games, and I have a consolized Neo Geo MVS, so I'll never need to play the Saturn ports. Even if I didn't have a CMVS, I would probably still use other ports and emulation to play Neo Geo games.

My Saturn was bought new at K-Mart in August 1999, and the cart port always gave me issues. I had serious problems with losing data on the memory cartridge from day one. Eventually, I got it positioned just right, and I haven't lost a save in years. It was some sort of combination of pushing the cart all the way in, pulling one end up slightly, pushing it back down, etc. When I need to replace the console's battery, I leave the cart in there.

I've heard that the US console got the short end of the stick. It has something like tin-plated contacts. The Japanese version has some sort of higher quality contacts. Maybe gold-plated.

If things get bad enough with my console, I'll seriously consider soldering my cartridge into it.

Admittedly, I only played it briefly on my SNES PowerPak for comparison's sake and for the fact that it has issues saving on the flashcart, but I found the SNES version to be ridiculously underwhelming and obnoxiously difficult compared to the Turbo CD version.

$50ish might be a bit much for a 6 hour experience on the Turbo CD, but I thought it was worth it when I bought it last year. It has flaws, but the gameplay's great, the music's awesome, and the voice acting is amazing for its time.

The Jaguar version of Wolfenstein 3D did not use the shoulder buttons on the Pro Controller to any meaningful degree. They certainly did not strafe. I have a Jag, the game, and the Pro Controller. It's still a great version of the game, though. I tried playing the browser version, and I can't stomach it.

He might have gotten the Jaguar version confused with the SNES version. I don't know if that version has shoulder strafing, but I know SNES Doom does. (Yuck.)

In fact, the Jaguar version of Doom didn't even have shoulder strafing. I don't think any Jaguar games had it. Alien vs. Predator had it on X and Z, of all places.

Quote from: Chuplayer on 03/04/2012, 03:06 PMI don't know what happened with the previous topic, but I thought it was a really intelligent idea that was well worth discussing. Anyway, here's what I said in the original topic.

Fatal Fury Special on the SNES totally rules. I won't even play the Neo Geo original anymore ever since I played the SNES port for the first time. Somebody here once said that they further rebalanced the US version of the SNES port, and it shows. Terry Bogard, my favorite character, is actually usable. I also like the music for some reason. I think it sounds really good. Krauser's music is especially well done. 2D-wise, nothing holds a candle to the Neo Geo's graphics until 1998 with the Dreamcast, but I think they did a good job with what they had to work with.

What does everybody else think?
I cant say i played it on SNES, but I'm gonna have to say the ol' Duo version of the FF2 Special was pretty darn good. My buddy had the SNES version as well as the Duo, but we would always go at it on the Duo! Yah there was some loading time...but the music was perfect!

Since there's a few Sega fans here, i must also throw in that I loved NBA Jam for the 32X! but i guess that wasn't too hard a game to replicate for home anyways...
But was he a Terry player?
