So, what are the best exercises one can do to strengthen the hands & wrists and fully recover from tendono-elitritis (Caused by punching injuries) on both hands/wrists?
So far, I have taken the following medications and physiotherapy for months, with little to no effect:

A) Electro-muscle/nerve graph twice (x2) (Nerves are fine and no sign of carpal syndrome)

B) X-Rays (No sign of arthritis)

C) Anti-inflammatory Medicine / pills:
1. Naprosyn / Naproxen (15days) (No Effect)
2. Arcoxia / Etoricoxib, MSD 90mg (15days) (No Effect)
3. Biofenac / Aceclofenac (30days) (No Effect)
4. XefoRapic / Iornoxicam (15days (No Effect)
5. Arcoxia / Etoricoxib, MSD 120mg (15days) (Helped 35-40% with the symptoms, but it could have been simply because of natural healing after such a long time which had passed from the initial injury that triggered this problem)

D) Physiotherapy (No laser) and special exercises instructed by the physiotherapist. (Helped and eased the symptoms a bit, but it seems that it acted more as a painkiller rather than an actual cure)

These irritations have been going on for 1.5 year now at a lesser or greater degree, but have been healing slowly and I am better now. However, my hands still get sore and feel an irritating pinch sensation every now and then, all over my hands.

As a result, I've stopped playing games fully / long sessions, for almost a year to help with the recovering procedure. However, I still type and use the mouse & keyboard and both hands are as strong as they used to be.

All 5 orthopedic doctors that examined me, ruled out surgery, so what are my other options to fully recover?

Any advice will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

2D Shoot Em Up with these specific characteristics?!

I was wondering if there is a 2D Shoot Em Up (Horizontal or Vertical), where you start off with all weapons maxed up and as you progress your primary weapons' power / ammunition gradually decrease?!
So in this fashion you're forced to kill off everything fast and complete each level before your primary weapons are completely depleted?!

The closest to this scenario I can think of are 2 Shooters:

Carrier Airwing / U.S. Navy (Arcade/ Mame)
Where your energy bar / fuel tank is gradually decreasing (especially even more if you're shot)!

Macross 2 (Arcade / Mame).
The levels have a timer pushing you to finish each level and boss fast before it runs out.

I would like to try something different more challenging and more adrenaline oriented than the classic 2D Shmup formula.
It can be on any system, as it'll do just fine ;)

So, I finally completed all 3 campaigns.
Over all (apart from the lame NOD ending which is a direct inclination of an up coming expansion), it left me an awesome impression!

Fast paced game play, excellent story line, awesome graphics, great music and the most destructive weapons I've ever come across in an RTS game!
The ION cannon blasts, the Avatar War Mechs, the Mammoth Tanks, the Planetary Assault Carriers & storm Rider spaceships, just rule!

The GDI rely greatly on a steamroller effect, devastating anything on their path, the NOD on stealth and nuclear blasts and the Scrin on mass scale air strikes!

What I loved the most was the Intelligence Date base of each of the 3 factions, gathered with the completion of each level.

The GDI present a darker & more sinister approach to the story, the NOD a more fanatical and idealistic view, where as the Scrin are more realistic and objective not to mention surprised by the situation on earth!

Specifically I loved this Scrin report:

Quote.. Indigenous population aligned into two major factions

... These factions continued combat operations between them even as they were threatened with extinction by our initial attack

Indigenous population is warlike to the extreme - once Threshold activation is complete and gateway is open, entire indigenous population must be cleansed
I was very pleased to see Kane reappearing, as he's the coolest, most sinister and mysterious character in the C&C universe.
An interesting fact is that he has been appearing through out the whole C&C time span, ranging from the 1950's (during the events in Red Alert 1, as an advisor to Stalin) and all the way to the event of Tiberium Wars in 2047 as the charesmatic leader of the NOD! But he always appears young and untouched by the hand of time!
This is implying that he's in fact immortal, not human or some Demon! He could also be linked to the biblical Cain (Kane) the first murderer after killing his brother in a struggle, which would explain why he has been going on living through out the ages!

Along with Dune2, Dune2000 & Tiberian Sun this is the best RTS ever imo!
I can't wait for the expansion pack!

So, it's been some time since the PS-3 has been released in Europe, but I've read some nagging issues about the PAL PS-3 regarding backwards compatibility and region free capability.

1. Is the EURO PAL PS-3 fully backwards compatible and 100% region free with all PS-1/2 games?

2. For example can you play, Thunder Force V (JPN PS-1), Einhander (US PS-1), Mushihimesama (JPN PS-2) and R-Type Final (US PS-2) as well as X-2 (EU PS-1) & Gradius V (EU PS-2) on the EURO PAL PS-3 console?

It would be best to verify before one spends his/hers hard earned money on one these! ;)

Thanks in advance.

I watched Macross II Movie (DVD) and I must say it was a fantastic film, a true masterpiece!

Here are my thoughts and feelings about the film.

It featured everything a self respecting Anime should deliver.
Awesome animation, epic intergalactic battles, a dramatic / sad story line / plot and a fantastic sound track.

The voice acting in both the US & Japanese versions were very well performed, but my favorite factor in the film was its music.

When Hibiki takes Ishtar to the Moon festival and they listen to Wendy's Love Song for the first time, with all the fans cheering inside the amphitheatre under the glass dome and the flagship Gloria in orbit, was my favorite moment by far!
I love Lady Ishtar's ecstatic expressions of joy and happiness. She then reveals her wish to Hibiki, which was to sing the song of love to her own people and bring them peace.

Later on, another very dramatic and shocking moment was when Ishtar starts singing the song of love at the Alus Nova chamber inside the alien flagship, (Sarride) bringing confusion to the Zendraedi soldiers. The outraged Emperor then orders the executioner death ship to cleanse the polluted flagship by blasting it with its laser beams.

Lord Feff and Lady Ishtar, manage to fly out of the doomed flagship inside a battle Mech, just in the brink of time!
As they watch the large nuclear explosion of the Sarride from afar, Ishtar cries for the loss of lady Elensh, but Lord Feff replies:

Quote"Behold, Ishtar...This is the will of Ingues, lord emperor of the Mardook. And this is the result of what you have done!"

The order given by the Emperor to his soldiers is equally dramatic (And very Japanese in style if I may say so)

Quote"Soldiers sworn to the Mardook discipline... In the name of our culture, crush these arrogant vermin!
In this universe nothing exists which can overpower us!
Therefore, resisting our conquest is impossible.
In the name of the Mardook, destroy!"

The final battle between the U.N Spacey forces and the Mardook fleet is one of the best in any Macross / Robotech film.
The music used for the battle scene is just perfect, as you watch the ships mobilizing for the imminent battle to come!
The two huge fleets engage in a devastating clash, in close proximity to the moon's orbit.
At first impression, it would seem that the earth's fleet gains the upper hand by wiping out 60% of the Mardook fleet in a single blow after using four Macross cannons, but all of a sudden, a huge wave of enemy ships de-folds and begins hammering the outnumbered earth fleet with a devastating laser storm!
The entire fleet, the Macross Cannons & the Gloria Flagship it self are destroyed!

What's interesting is that the Earth side fleets, in all the battles that take place in the film; consist almost primarily of old Zendraedi style battle cruisers also seen in the older Macross DYRL film & the Robotech series.

An apocalyptic dialogue that reveals the true feelings of Lord Feff for Lady Ishtar, takes place at the hangar of the Mardook command ship.
Lord Feff releases Ishtar, but before she leaves, he tells her:

Quote"I know no other life but one of a proud Mardook soldier, in service to lord Emperor Ingues.
I will only cease fighting at my death.
Ishtar you must leave now before I regain my senses.
And remember what is my sworn duty. To the Mardook you died by my hand.
No one will know my failure that I dare to love above my people."

Finally, at the earth's siege, in the last decisive battle over the scourged earth landscape, Ishtar sings the song of hope and sends to everyone the gentleness of her own heart and saves her people from the dictator.

I find Wendy Ryder's love song (Japanese) (At the Moon festival) better than Minmay's "Do you Remember Love" song from Macross DYRL and superior to the English translated version "We Will Win" song, from Harmony's Gold Robotech series imo.
Same goes for "The Hush of Two Hundred Million Years" intro song (Japanese) compared to Macross DYRL & Robotech intros imo.

Overall, Macross II is definitely one of the best Anime films and should be placed in the hall of all time classics!

Hello,
I was wondering, what are the best Anime / Mecha (Robotech, Macross, Gundam, Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, etc...) related forums / sites on the Internet?
Please, if some of our knowledgeable Anime / Mecha fans could point me to the right direction, as I have quite a few cool Anime related subjects / reviews to post.

Any links will be highly appreciated.

Here is a great site with all the Zelda Midi tunes as well as other GB classics:
http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/gameboy/index-classic.html

It has all the GB Zelda tunes with the exception of the original Windfish Ballad when you play it in front of the Egg with all 8 instruments. :(:(
It could be "Ballad of the Windfish (Arranged).mid" but it doesn't quite sound the same.

The 2nd best tune of the game imo:
"Tal Tal Mountain Range" especially the Remix version available at the above site:
http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/gameboy/Zelda_gameboy_mountain_long_version.mid

And of course, the classic "Overworld" tune, obviously.
Specifically, I find the "Overworld (5).mid" to be one of the best compositions of this song.
Probably even better than the original SNES SPC version.

Here are quite a few mp3 remixed tracks for all the Zelda games:

By the way, where could one get the midi or mp3 remixed tracks of "Ballad of the Windfish" song?

Thanks.

So, are the rest of the Zelda games on the GB colour & GBA worth buying & playing?
Are they any better than Link's awakening on the B/W GB, based on the values described above? (Gameplay, storyline, sad/dramatic plot with a lot of twists)?

Zelda - Oracle of Seasons (GB Colour)
Zelda - Oracle of Ages (GB Colour)
Zelda - Link's Awakening DX (GB Colour)
Zelda – The Minish Cap (GBA)

Regarding Ages & Seasons, does it matter in which order you complete them?
I've heard that they're linked in some way...

Recently, I bought a used Black & White Gameboy with the Zelda cart for 5 Euros at a flea-market sale.

Soon after when I started playing it, I was shocked by the sheer awesomeness of the gameplay, the nicely designed 4-grey scale graphics, the gorgeous music generated by the tiny GB speaker and the cool Boss fights!
It took me 3 months to complete (I took my time there) and enjoyed every single detail of the game.

The story line and plot were very deep, sad and dramatic.
The Koholilt realm was just an allegory, a dream of another being. It would all end and fade into nothingness once the wind fish awakes.

I had an inclination, about the island not being quite right, especially after defeating the Slime Eel Boss at the Catfish dungeon and hearing its dying cries:

QuoteSlime Eel: TSSSK, TSSSK! You don't ssseem to know what kind of island this
           iss... KEEE-HEE-HEEE! What a fool... KEE-HEE-HEH!!

But I was shocked when I first read the legend about the island, on the ancient tablet at the face shrine.

QuoteTO THE FINDER... THE ISLE OF KOHOLINT, IS BUT AN ILLUSION... HUMAN,
MONSTER, SEA, SKY... A SCENE ON THE LID OF A SLEEPER'S EYE... AWAKE
THE DREAMER, AND KOHOLINT WILL VANISH MUCH LIKE A BUBBLE ON A NEEDLE...
CAST-AWAY, YOU SHOULD KNOW THE TRUTH!

The Owl then appears and tells you that the only one that knows for sure is the Wind Fish it self! The Owl was the most enigmatic character of the game. I think it's an allegory and represents the Wind Fish's (or maybe even Link's) Consciousness!

Later on, The Facade Bosses' agonizing death cries supported the terrifying truth:

QuoteFacade (end): Okay, listen up! If the Wind Fish wakes up, every-thing on this island will be gone forever! And I do mean... EVERYTHING!

And the dramatic inevitable end described by the Boss of the 8th Dungeon.
It's so dramatic of how anxious and determined he is to prevent you from playing the instruments:

QuoteHot Head: CRACKLE-FROOOWSH! You're finished! I will never let you play the
          Instruments of the Sirens!!

+++(END)+++
Hot Head: C-C-CRACKLE! Why did you come here? if it weren't for you, nothing
would have to change! You cannot wake the Wind Fish! Remember,
you... too... are in... ...the dream...

When the Wind fish finally awakes, the dialogue that follows is very hopeful and sad at the same time:

QuoteWind Fish: ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... I AM THE WIND FISH... LONG HAS BEEN
MY SLUMBER... IN MY DREAMS... AN EGG APPEARED AND WAS SURROUNDED BY
AN ISLAND. WITH PEOPLE, ANIMALS, AN ENTIRE WORLD! ... ... ... ...
BUT, VERILY, IT BE THE NATURE OF DREAMS TO END! WHEN I DOST AWAKEN,
KOHOLINT WILL BE GONE... ONLY THE MEMORY OF THIS DREAM LAND WILL
EXIST IN THE WAKING WORLD... SOMEDAY, THOU MAY RECALL THIS
ISLAND... THAT MEMORY MUST BE THE REAL DREAM WORLD...

The best element of this game must be Marin's song, "The Ballad of the Wind Fish", This is one of the nicest tunes I have ever heard! I would sit there and play it just to enjoy the melody. The full version of the song, when you play the 8 siren instruments in front of the Wind Fish's Egg, is poetry!
Yes, music is very important in my book and I was deeply touched by this specific song. I'll definitely look for an mp3 re-mastered version of this tune!
I felt sad when Marin tells you that she knew you were going to leave for ever and that she didn't want you to forget her.

Earlier at the beach, she tells you:
"If I was a sea gull, I would fly as far as I could! I would fly to far away places and sing for many people".

I guess her wish was granted when at the end sequence, Marin comes onto the screen, a seagull flies through her, and she disappears.

I was deeply touched by this game and it definitely deserves to be placed in the hall of all time classics.

I've never played Shadow Warrior but I know that it's from the creators of Duke3D. I should track a copy of it, but I would have some hard time getting it to work in WinXP.
I have seen quite a few unsold copies of Cyber Mage in various forgotten shops down town. Judging from the box covers it seems to have a comic strip theme, similar to Comix Zone on the Mega Drive.

I haven't had a chance to see the AVP movie yet...Should I spend my hard-earned cash to rent it?
Is it that bad?

I was using an NVIDIA TNT1 16MB back in 1998-9 when I completed Quake II.

I got a 3dfx Voodoo II for the sol purpose of playing Unreal 1 with all the awesome glide effects & Lens flares on!
I still have it to this day & have not regretted getting it.
Unreal 1 is one of the best FPS by far!

If it was not meant to scare or disgust you, then how come the body processing stages, were so gory/disgusting & Doom-like?
The Zombie stage, the stage with the Veins & gigantic heart and the stage with the intestines which were all connected to that fat creature. You actually had to over-feed it to make its stomach explode & let the acidic fluids burn through the ground below in order to advance further.

The problem with the Stroggofication scene is that by showing it from a FPS perspective you did not have a very clear view of what they did exactly. A much shorter 3rd person perspective scene would have been much more detailed, gory & horrifying.
But I guess the FPS scene was a clever way to fill a hole in the plot of the stroggofication it self.

Off-Topic / Quake 4 **Spoilers**
02/27/2006, 09:51 AM
I recently completed Quake 4, so here is a small review of my thoughts...

Quake 4 is a nice intergalactic war game with immense battle & sieges and massive air strike bombardments!
It features very memorable / epic scenes & some of the coolest epic Boss fights by far!

At one point you're in lead of a hover tank convoy that is off to besiege the Strogg barrier control base that is also under a full scale bombardment from a huge earth-side battle cruiser.
(That spaceship specifically looked a lot like the space federation's frigates in Starwars III, at the siege of Korousant against the Star Destroyers. Those ships looked way cooler than the Star Destroyers.)

The war vehicles that you control are great! That includes Assault Tanks, Hover Tanks & a kick-ass Mech (Similar to Mech Warriors)
The Boss fights are devastating! They're some of the best you have ever encountered on any FPS till now, really!

At own point (You're in control of the Mech) you encounter a spider/strider/walker Boss and the huge fire powered used from both sides, leads to the partial destruction of the near by base.
All Bosses are huge, very bad tempered & will not rest until you're one with the ground!

Other cool moments are:

The part where you control the hover tank and fight the 1st Spider walker Boss that ascends from the pit was such a cool fight!

The huge Guardian Boss that was chasing you all over at the 3 command towers was a pretty scary experience & the fight it self was pretty tough.

The part where you encounter the officer that was Stroggified and warns you to get back as he could no longer control the huge mechanical body. That delivered a shiver down my spine as to what I was going to face next.
Overall, the story line of Quake 4 is not that memorable, the ending sucked and the overall length is on the short side. The absence of a hyper BFG type weapon was below my expectorations.
The Dark matter weapon was nowhere near as destructively satisfying as Doom's BFG9000 or Quake 2 BFG10K.

Also, the Stroggification scene of Kane was not as gory or scary as one would have expected it to be. I thought that it would have been shown form a third person perspective, like an FMV sequence rather than a "rail-train" trailer in first person view.
Also, one would have imagined that such a high-tech race like the Strogg, would have used laser beams to cut off the legs & arms rather than chain-saws?!

Personally I enjoyed it a bit more than Quake 2, but I can't say that it introduced anything new to the genre and it was missing the wow factors of Doom3, Half Life 2 & Far Cry.

So if you want a shiver down your spine, play Doom3.
One that is not the faint of hearts, will absolutely love the dark/sinister & evil theme of Doom3. The atmosphere, story line, plot twists are all excellent and features the old-school gameplay that made the genre famous in the 1st place.
In Doom3 you'll witness some of the most memorable FPS gaming moments.
A truly awesome remake of the original Doom.

But if Sci-Fi, War Drama with immense fire power is your cup of tea and don't mind the short length, please make your self a favour and do play Quake 4.

You do that son! ;)

It has a lot to teach you about animation in general. It would be of great service for your sprite animation project.

Valdyn's Sprite is very well animated (Except for his run); the water & lave transparencies, the parallax scrolling, enemies & Boss characters are excellent.

So don't be a lazy chap, leave the dip-dish / thick-crust, Chicago pizzas in peace, go download Lion Heart, setup WinUAE & you're set!

Oopss... I hadn't noticed about the "General Console Chat" I would have probably placed it there, but since this is a computer game thread i wouldn't know if t fits there.
feel free to place it there if needs be.

@Keranu
This is an excellent adventure/platform game.
It doesn't have that many RPG elements, but you do get 2 horizontal shooter levels as you get to ride a bipedal dino-lizard thing & a dragon that shoots fire at your enemies as you fly to the Sorcerer's flying Citadel.

Yes you should try it as it is emulated by WinUAE (Although 2-button support maybe a bit bugy. Maybe they fixed in the latest version.)

Never the less, in-game animation is excellent, superior to anything you've witnessed on other 16-bit consoles.
Parallaxing for example, where you would get 6-8 planes of parallaxing on PCE, SNES & Geny, in Lion Heart every single horizontal line would paralax (Even the foreground) bringing incredible depth into the plateau.
Overall Graphics / colours, music & gameplay are awesome.

Make sure you play the 4-disk [!] verified ADF disk images, as the other cracked- CD-32 rip version will not show the ending.

Do try it out.

So, is there any word of Alien Vs Predator 3 (PC) being in development?
It's been 5 years since AVP2 was released and what wouldn't I give for a third installment in the series.
Imagine the dark/sinister corridors of the Alien hive and a horde of Aliens behind you tail. The agile Predator hiding cloaked behind his thermal shield, or the high-tech marines with their powerful weaponry.
All that powered with the Doom3 engine!
That would be so cool!

AVP2 is one of my top 10 favorite FPS. I got way back in 2001, when I upgraded my PC (Pentium 4 1.8GHZ CPU, 256MB & a Kick-Ass GeForce3 Ti500)
I was completely shocked with the awesome story line & great Sci-fi plot Gameplay & weapons were top-notch. Graphics did not shock me as in Unreal two years earlier on my trusty 3dfx voodoo II, but it's gameplay that counts in the end of the day.

For anyone that has never played AVP2 before, here are some memorable scenes from the game:

Ah, Lion Heart!
The Memories!

I completed Lion Heart back in summer of 1994 (No cheating!) and what a graphic fest that was!
Incredible! It sure looked as if it used a lot more than the basic 64Half-Bright colours the OCS/ECS chipset was capable of.
The rainbow copper effects were amazing, especially the fire stage.

I still have some AMIGA Power / Format Mags with articles quoting that no other console adventure platform game of the time could match Lion Heart, especially in the graphics department.

The game had some of the most stunning looking Heroic Fantasy levels, which I had only read about in novels like Conan, Elrik, Lords of The Rings, Dungeons & Dragons, etc...
The Wastelands, the swamps, the spider infested caves, the forgotten city, the fiery caverns, the gravity defying citadel and especially the last Sorcerer Boss fight, were all some of the coolest and most memorable gaming moments.
The Sorcerer him self, reminded me of Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat, but in a more sinister & evil looking way. The fight it self was quite tough and took a few tries to overcome.

The ending was very epic & dramatic.
I love Valdyn's expression when the king, approaches in the background to greet & congratulate him on defeating his enemy, but Valdyn is like "Yeah right, get lost! I lost my girl in the struggle, so who cares about you old man?!" leaving him surprised in the great hall!

Then he discovers the secret powers of the talisman and breaks the spell that had petrified his love.

A true masterpiece!
