10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Buy/Sell/Trade / Repair work testimonial
06/02/2015, 12:26 AM
I'm not sure this is really the best place to post this (if it's not, can a moderator please move it where appropriate?), but I figured it'd be good to have a repair testimonial thread, since this is technically a form of sale; service in this case.  Without further ado...

About a month ago I had my Turbo Duo repaired by Keith Courage.  There were some minor "bumps" along the way, but ultimately "Keith" brushed these off as if they were nonexistent.

The repair was for a recap.  Now, I received this Duo as a gift from a friend and was told on receiving that the CD lens had been carefully recalibrated (to allow copied discs.  This did work).  My concern was that maybe post-repair it wouldn't.  "Keith" said he'd be able to deal with this and it wasn't an issue.

The repair proceeded normally and, on request, he took some before and after pictures.  The work looked very neat and, upon receiving the unit, all Hucard games worked beautifully; full-blast loud-volume audio.  Prior to the repair the audio would be dull, "staticy", and would completely drop off after a few minutes.  This symptom was eliminated completely.

The CD's were a bit of a mixed story.  Some worked ok, such as my buddy's "Rondo of Blood" et al.  My own copy that previously worked didn't.  I was kind of upset but "Keith" told me I could send it back and he'd take care of it.  I did, and after some post-office-related delays (noone's fault), he adjusted the spin rate and fixed the last remaining issue.

When I finally got it back I was thrilled.  The thing works like it's brand new.  It's pretty damn amazing.  I couldn't be more pleased.  "Keith" the whole time was professional and courteous.  Both good technical and customer service related skills.  I admit I'm not always the easiest customer to satisfy and me saying I have no complaints is a pretty big achievement, but I can safely say that at this point. I'd wholeheartedly recommend him for this sort of work.

I have a Turbo Express that I got back in 1990 whose audio is slightly low, indicating a need for a recap before too long.  I'm not going to have any hesitation sending it to him for this sort of repair.

Overall a fantastic repairer for Turbo systems.  5/5.  Highly recommended.
