@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

I've replaced the 4 caps and now its slowly starting to work :)

With burned games i will either get load error or it will initally boot but i get a black screen. With genuine music cd's it will load to the cd menu but wont actually play music. It will go to track 1 for a second or two then go back to 0. The index numbers go nuts though.

Finally had a chance to have a look and at first the capacitors looked pretty good, there wasnt any bulging on them and no apparent leaking until i removed them. Some of the points look dirty or possibly starting to lift. Any opinions would be awesome.

I have used a circuit tester on some of the traces and they seem fine, although the dirtier part doesnt complete the circuit so i dont know if they are salvageable?

Traditionally Europeans have always been willing to pay more, mostly due to ignorance.
Being european i would say the problem europe has had from the 8 bit days upto now is that there is a lot of games/systems that were never released here or are of a low print run, different countrys in europe had exclusives over others its a complete mess here. Nintendo were really bad for it but all are guilty of it.

European gamers create a knock on effect because pal games can be very expensive (ebay a snes pal cib megaman x3 for example) so myself for example will look elsewhere for a copy and if they see a saving they will buy it because its cheaper than the pal copy even though they could still be paying much more than the game is worth. Thats where the knock on begins.

Went to my local electronics shop earlierto pick up the capacictors but they didnt have an exact match to the ones in the red circe, the replacements all have a higher voltage.

Ive never dealt with capacitors so i dont really know if the voltage has to match (uF matches exactly though).

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

I started out with just a core grafx but browsing games online i noticed there was a lot of cd games aswell so i took a gamble and bought An untested briefcase setup. The duos are nice looking setups but theres something about the briefcase look that appeals to me more :D

I recently bought a cd rom2 and interface unit that was untested.

Disc wouldnt spin so i opened it up and the middle gear had teeth missing, thats been replaced and the worm motor has been re greased and now it runs really quiet And smooth.

Trouble is that it wont boot any discs ive tried pressed cd's and cd-r's and nothing. the laser lights up but im assuming its not strong enough to read data. How bright does the laser need to be?

Im assuming that a little pot tweek is needed but not really sure of which pot to adjust.

Any help would be awesome.

Just wanted to say hello and as the title says im a new pc engine/cd rom2 owner.

i found these forums by chance as there seems to be little information on the pc engine compared to other systems and being from the uk pc engine stuff is really hard to find.

I only have a handful of hucards at the moment but the library is completely new to me and i find that quite interesting/exciting.

Looking forward to chatting with you all
