...but this thing is THE FUCKING BOMB!

Yada Yada Yada Morphing Voice Recorder

I found this thing in the cheapy toy aisle for $6.75 (HELL NO I DIDN'T PAY $22.95 FOR IT!) and it's SO COOL!

Basically it's like the old YakBak except it can record for a long-ass time and it has a real-time morphing dial, it's PERFECT for beatboxing into.

It's loud and very clear as well. 10/10 GO GET ONE!

Was there ever a VCD player app for PC-FX released? Could it even play them, or MPG2 files?

The song that comes to your mind when you unwind, your favorite relax track. What is it?

For me it doesn't get any better than the original version of "Pacific' by 808 State.

How about you?

Wow. I picked up Taito Legends 1 & 2 on Friday, and before that, Taito was only OK to me. Sure, they made the Bubble Bobble series, Darius, NinjaWarriors, etc and OF COURSE Space Invaders... but I was of the opinion that these were their only standout games.

Boy was I wrong. I beat Space Invaders '95 and RAPED Cameltry (which is actually kinda better on the SNES) and damn are there EVER more cool games.

I didn't know Cacoma Knight In Bizyland was a rip-off of Volfied/Qix, Volfied has been taking up a lot of my time as has been Space Gun (which I have played in arcades before and was blown away then as I am now, that game RULES).

All the F3 system games kick ass, I didn't know it had a Ensoniq soundchip in it! Puchi Carat is hella fun, and Arabian Magic/Dungeon Magic are nigh-PERFECT beat em' ups.  Elevator Action II pwns the SHIT out of EA1.

Also, Liquid Kids and Plump Pop are highly weird, but still kept me playing for hours, as well as Zoo Keeper and The New Zealand Story. But why all the fuss over Rainbow Islands? That game isn't that great.

Taito is probably now one of my favorite developers. Hopefully they come out with Taito Legends 3, and hopefully THAT INCLUDES NINJAWARRIORS!!!

...but this is big news regardless. THEY ARE REMOVING PAY PHONES. FOR GOOD.

Read AT&T's statement here.

While I understand the business logic behind the idea, the practical logic just doesn't add up. Yes, I have a cellphone (prepaid) but what if I were in an emergency and had either

1. No signal?

2. No units?

3. No battery power?

Plus, I mean, damn. These things are a cultural icon! EVERYBODY knows what a payphone is! Even though they totally annihilated redboxing like two years ago and removed the anonymity way before that, they are still a big part of phone freak culture as well.

If you are going to miss payphones as well, check this out. I get lucky since it ships from Texas.

General Gaming / Ape Escape 3: WTF...
12/02/2007, 01:44 AM
OK, so I thought it was weird that my shrinkwrapped Ape Escape 3 had a false cover written in French and came with an extra French manual, but I was reading about the name changes on Wikipedia and it's like HOLY SHIT, I have the European version!

I didn't even THINK a European game would work on my PS2, it's BIZARRE. 0_o

NeoCD Waiting - a parody of "California Waiting" by Kings Of Leon

Samurai Spirits playing by my side
NOW LOADING picture pullin' overtime
Seem too close to be losin' touch
I can't give in and I can't give up
I guess I shouldn't have paid so much

Hey
NeoCD loading
Every four minutes it loads a sprite
Say
What's wrong with my CD
It took four years to load Galaxy Fight

I'm goin' to check if the drive broke down
No I guess not it's spinnin' round and round
I'd tell you the news but nothin's changed
I'd show you the disc but I threw it away
I'm tired of waiting for this stupid ass game

Hey
NeoCD loading
Every four minutes it loads a sprite
Say
What's wrong with my CD
It took four years to load Galaxy Fight
It took four years to load Galaxy Fight

EDIT: "disc* goes better

...but still, it makes me wonder. OK, so after the 9/11 attacks, Clearchannel (blech) made a list of songs  that they would not play for fear of emotionally scarring pussies disturbed American citizens.

That list can be found here.
Of course this ban is long-gone now, but it just now hit me.

It seems kind of strange that they could ban some songs for even the MOST obscure references to terrorism, but yet, they forgot one of the most obvious ones...

Grandmaster Flash - The Message
(which is definitely in my top 10 "best songs ever" list, t should be in yours too!)

Now just in case you don't know how it goes, and if your sound card just blew out or you're at work or something, take a look at these lyrics (2:44 to 2:46 in the Youtube video):

QuoteSometimes I think Im going insane,
I swear I might hijack a plane!
When the ban was in place, this song was actually on the radio (because it was not on the list).

Just another example of why censorship is idiotic.

Judge Dredd

What movies do YOU have?
#77
...here are two things I found out the hard way:

1. Have a browser open with your online bank statement or have a paper bank statement with you, because your credit card info MUST BE EXACTLY like on the statement. If you screw this up in the vicinity of 10 times, you get locked out of the account for a while.

2. Your PSP has to be activated to download the new games. This means having the official 3.72 firmware on your PSP and downloading a file to enable the feature. I don't know if you can get around this with custom firmware though.
#78
...but you know how it goes. Every good plan sometimes gets delayed and what not. I was cleaning my phone to the sound of mariachi music today (at a Mexican food joint), and I almost deleted these. But I figured some of you might appreciate this fine bit of photography so here it goes. I actually saw this at my old job at an auction house and according to my phone took the pictures on July 13th.

Screw the lightbulb. This is the best invention ever.

OK, for people like me whose work blocks downloads, this would be a WICKED invention! Get this:

A service, where you register, and instead of a picture host like Flickr or file host like Mediafire that require you to upload from your harddrive, make a file host that lets you pick a URL for a download on the web and store it on a server for you, to download later on any PC that has internet access!

You could apply the current "if you want unlimited speed/space, you have to pay" business model, and you;d be RICH!

What do you think?

Why can't FM synthesis recreate squarewaves that great? I mean it does sines (DUH) and sawtooths (DOUBLE DUH) very well, but squarewaves just seem off. Why is that?

Off-Topic / Is Snow Crash worth reading?
11/20/2007, 03:09 AM
I dunno, I hear like a lot of people practically jerking off to this book, and when I read the details it just seems like a weird mix of Neuromancer, Johnny Mnemonic and that old CD-I game Burncycle. I'm into sci-fi I guess, the only sci-fi books I've read though are 1984 (that was only vaguely sci-fi), Fahrenheit 451, Neuromancer, and stuff of that ilk.

Is it worth it?
#84
Yeah, I really don't know crap about this system.

Here are the questions:

1. Why do you need System Cards, what do they add to the console?

2.  How many cards are there?

3. What is the best card, and why?
#85
I mean seriously, NOAC (NES-On-A-Chip) based consoles are a dime a dozen (actually cheaper), but where are all the PCEOAC based consoles?    It's certainly a popular enough system, why has nobody decided to make illegal clones of it?

Not to prefer it over the real thing, but with every other console under the sun being illegitimately reproduced in a sloppy manner, why can't the TG-16?

..is some GUEST on PCEFX at 3:00 in the morning PRINTING out old topics?  :-s  :?

This dude is like on, EVERY night, printing out the most obscure threads...have a looksee (click to expand):

IMG

The main scenarios I can come up with:

1. It's one of our members who can't log on at this time for some reason printing out favorite threads for reading material.

2. It's the world's most eco-unfriendly Googlebot.

3. It's a lawyer trying to get evidence to do something to PCEFX.  :x

As long as it's not scenario #3, I have nothing against Mr. Printer, but he is certainly very eccentric! And he should use Save Page As and back up to DVD-R instead of printing, IMO.

I don't know how many people use this screen (you get to it by clicking the online user count) but if you get lucky you see some WEIRD crap go on there.
#88
OK, if you had to pick which sound sounds more like a real electric guitar, which would you choose?

Roland Fantom

or

Yamaha Motif?

Obviously, there are some other great contenders out there (namely Prominy LPC and the Ensoniq TS-10), but they don't count in this poll (because one is a Kontakt library and one is damn near impossible to find).

And honestly, I really don't care if you can play the guitar, nor do I care to learn myself. I simply want to know what you think sounds more realistic. I'm not even really considering either one of these boards, just an honest question. (Though these two have been on my mind before...) Now that we have those posts fielded, what do you think?

..."RAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWR!"

Seriously, Microsoft is doing a great thing by letting us download the new Zune 2.0 firmware to our old Zunes, but ZUNE.NET IS DOWN, DAMNIT!!!!

This software will be BEYOND worth it though (heads up WoodyXP), THE SYNC SOFTWARE HAS BEEN COMPLETELY REWRITTEN TO WHERE IT IS NO LONGER A HACKED UP VERSION OF WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 10!!!!

If a guy can dream, then this guy is dreaming of GETTING HIS DAMN MUSIC BACK ON TO HIS COMPUTER!! (unfortunately, it might just STAY a dream, but hey, it's my dream leave me alone! :P)

There are shots of the new GUI floating around the web as well, it's not that great, just huge stylized fonts (probably optimized for the tiny Zune 4GB and 8GB screen). No custom backgrounds either. Let's hope you can go back to the old UI.
#90
I just downloaded Famitracker yesterday, and WOW, this program RULES! I'm currently trying to make a NES version of "Battle Without Honor Or Humanity" from the Kill Bill soundtrack, I can't figure out the note cut effect though. :(

But anyway, since there's no MIDINES type cart for the TG-16, is there a Famitracker type tracker for the TG-16? That would ROCK SO HARD.

OK, I think I'm going to get both of these games eventually, but right now should I get Powered Up or Maverick Hunter X?

I like the oldschool games and the X games equally, and music is about 50% of my enjoyment of the games.

Which one would you reccomend?
#95
OK, so I'm new at this, but basically I have to ask:

How do I get my Windows XP skinned to look like a Menu from Final Fantasy Origins? (0:03 to 0:05 in the vid)

Is there anything that can do this?
#96
I don't mean like demos as in trial versions of games, natch. I mean demoscene stuff. They can make demos for C64, surely someone has made demos for TG-16?
#97
Well for everyone who actually wanted one, you can now order one and have a second one donated to a child in a third-world country absolutely free. It's called the Give One Get One initiative and it absolutely backs the point of me and all the other anti-OLPCers on the board.

Seriously, first they charge $100, saying they can't go any lower, now they're GIVING THEM AWAY!? What did I tell you, corporate lies.  [-(  [-X

Here's more info. And some more here.

Secondly, according to this press-release, the company I work for is now giving away 1 year HotSpot subscriptions to people who buy these things. At least I'm just a CSR for the prepaid, so I won't have to field any of these calls.
#98
First things first, I don't want this to be a flame thread, just a honest post from me telling you guys some things I want you to know. I'm not going to toss out names that have no belonging in this thread, and I will try my best to avoid the use of profanity. I'm doing this because I want a mature discussion.

If this can be a mature discussion and not a bash Kitsune thread, you might actually convince me of your points. If not well, to save some of the drama, for the past 2 days my account was in a self-voluntary-and-initiated deletion status. Earlier today I reconsidered, but if more stuff happens I honestly have no hesitation to do it again and leave it that way.

Now that we're done with that, here's the question. What am I missing by using emulators? I prefer my LCD monitor to my TV (which is not great and has horrible fake 3D sound which is impossible to remove), and I actually like my PC gamepads. I like having unlimited saves and in some cases, saves at all. I also like not having to worry about if my game will work when I stick it in.

I understand that no emulators are perfect, but I also understand that most are very close.

But if I had a choice, I would use the real hardware.

This is something I need to clear up about my particular situation and basically why I emulate:

I don't pirate. I would LOVE to buy all my games if they were actually available to me. I actually have my SNES cart collection building up due to that atitude. I go into EZPawn and see a SNES game, and I'm all "HEY, I have that and like it!" And then I buy it.  Unfortunately, that store only has SNES games and Genesis games, no Turbo games.

Now I know I could buy these games on sites like eBay, but the gaming community (much like the synth community) has valued these games some much that it raises the prices of these games to levels that at this point in life I just simply cannot afford. Even the loose game auctions that are just loose carts or CD and jewelcase only auctions are expensive!

You may see the name "Kitsunexus" and you may see my flavor-of-the-week avatar, but what you don't see is the real me putting up with a mundane mediocre job just to save up for a crappy used car to barely make it out of this forsaken state and start a life that I can enjoy.

Also, let's say I magically had the money to buy all of this stuff, I HAVE NO ROOM. :( I live with my parents still, and share a room with my brother. The games I buy are not going to be able to have the room dedicated to them that they need. Also, I play MAME ROMs, a bunch of them. Obviously I can't afford the money nor the space for arcade cabinets.

I have no intention of ripping anybody off (I do NOT pirate modern games for any system, and actually never pirate PC games (except Daggerfall, I do own Widget Workshop) ) and I do not take any pleasure out of getting something for nothing. I enjoy these old games like everyone else, and I just play these to remember some of the games I played growing up, some of the systems and games I missed out on growing up, and basically to escape back to a time when gaming wasn't so mainstream and it wasn't heading for failure like it is in the current generation of games.

I feel humiliated and disheartened that I have to justify myself like this to you guys, and I can bet money on the fact that you are all fortunate enough to have never been in my situation, and also the fact that this post may fall on deaf ears.

But this entire post is 100% truth, no lies, no embellishments, just me being honest with you. And at the end of the day, isn't that the most one could ask for?
#99
That game was the BOMB!!

BUT I ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY HATE THE SYNC SOFTWARE.

Whether it's automatically adding folders I don't want, making me set up playlists, trying to get this anti-social into "the social" (which Is the most retarded marketing campaign EVER) or generally just being slow, it needs to die, and just let me use My Computer to manage it.

But the player is awesome and highly reccomended. I just wonder why a personal media player has to be so intent on sharing it's content with the world.

Shove the social up your ass, Microsoft. [-(

EDIT: IT'S ONLY FIRST GEN >_<
