Hi, All! I haven't been here for a long time. With the TML, DuoMazov and pcecp gone, this is my last recourse for expert help. I decided to fire up this great little flashcart recently but am getting "Connecting Fault" in the "Get Machine Status" box. I am running this on Windows 7, but I didn't have luck on Win10 or even Win98. My card works as games I loaded on there once upon a time still play on my Duo and CoreGrafx. If anyone out there could help, I would appreciate it.

On the Turbo Mailing List the other day, we got a post from a huge Japanese Turbo fan named Takumi Suidu.  He sent us pix and a link to images of a Duo R which has been converted to a PC.  The guy who did this has done it before with a Dreamcast and Saturn.  All possible video connections, USB, you name it.  He left is possible to use a PC Engine mouse which is really beyond words.  Check out this links and be, I hope, impressed. This unit will be sold (not sure  how many yet) at Tsukumo in Akihabara).

Buy/Sell/Trade / FX games FS
01/20/2009, 08:06 PM
hey all,
happy new year (no, it's not too late to still say that).  i've got lovely bundle of FX games i am putting up for sale on ebay but, before they go there, i will give you a chance to get them here.  i am not - as i have done in the past - selling these at cost.  still, it's a good price for a good mix of easy to find and slightly tougher to find titles.
they are:

Return to Zork
Shanghai:  The Great Wall
Can Can Bunny Extra DX (no spine card)
Fushigi no Kuni no Angelique (Alice in Wonderland)
Anime Freak vol 1.
Battle Heat

most of these titles are in mint condition but CCB DX has two small cracks in the case.  i would prefer to sell them as a bundle but would take other offers under consideration.  i can't say what i am asking for them because i really haven't decided but, i can tell you that only AF 1 and BH would be in the very cheap category.  i'll leave this post here for a day or two before moving them over to the bay. to avoid any hard feelings, just make an offer.  i may accept.  i may not.
thanks.

Hi all,
i am in need of serious help.  my US pippin console is suddenly missing its AC adapter.  the pwer rating on the unit says this:
   AC 120 V
   60Hz
   0.5A max

it is a female connector for three prongs and looks like something that would be used in most computers.  in fact, i have two adapters that fit but the one is rated AC 125 v.  is it dangerous to use that? if not, should i just take it to radio shack and have them order one? help!

PC-FX Discussion / PC-FXGA question
07/03/2008, 11:08 AM
hey all, i got a shiny, minty fresh pc-FX GA accelerator board here but it's for the NEC PC98 series of computers.  i am wondering if aynone out there has ever gotten this to work on a non pc98 pc or if there is a way of emulating that pc on windows because if not, i will have to track one down and somehow get that back home when i leave japan.

Buy/Sell/Trade / A little ebay advice...
06/27/2008, 08:47 AM
i was just browsing the FX pages on ebay and i feel it necessary to give you all a little heads up on something.  now, i am not one to make a lot of noise about ebay because there are lots of deals there and lots of good people on there trying to get as much as they can- either in the form of money or bargains.  but,  i just saw something that is just too much for me.  there is a seller on there now called cschena who looks as though he/she runs a clean operation.  the stuff looks great and there is a guarantee involved with all of their purchases.  but those prices are beyond outrageous, and it's not just this seller. japan all-stars - despite the occasional bargain - is a little overpriced also.  it OK to buy fro mthese people if you are impatient or desperate to get that game you want/need but i think that with a litle patience, you will save a lot of money.  i mean,  i just saw BATTLE HEAT for $43 which is insane.  Angelique Special for $38 and Team Innocent for $48 is bad.  it's bad for this community and it's bad for the FX scene.  these games are generally at or under $15.  i bought two copies of angelique the other day for $3 each.  Graduation II is listed at $42!  i've seen it going for $5 for a long time.  granted: it's here in japan.  but for those of you tempted or who just don't know a lot about what constitutes fair-pricing, my heavens, this is not it and don't think for a moment it's worth it.
it's not everybody!
let me say again -and more clearly- that these are probably 'honest' sellers.  their stuff is legit but i know what it's like to try and fill out a collection and assume ebay is indicative of a fair price at times.  beware my friends...there be sharks in the FX tank. there, i've said my piece.

Buy/Sell/Trade / PC-FX stuff from japan
06/11/2008, 09:47 AM
hey all,
there were two surprises in akihabara recently.  one was the murders the other day and the other was a pretty decent amount of PC-FX stuff.  i am thinking this would be a good chance to get some stuff if anyone out there is interested. i found a few games that are not all that rare, in great condition and cheap.  battle heat, voice paradise, quenn of queens wrestling, team innocent and several copies of the early anime freaks games which i could sell for really cheap- i'm guessing like 8-10 bucks each.  also found a lot of other games.  no zenkis or zeroigars though.  i am puting a list together of stuff i will offer up but for now, i would like to know if anyone is interested in those cheap games i mentioned.  nothing rare but easily mint condition stuff to fill out those collections.  i am just curious to know who might need what.

Anyone out there played it? i am seriously stuck and would appreciate any help.  i'm not to ofar into the game:

i got my robot buddy with me and we are on the 8th floor, i believe- waiting for the damn shuttle to show up.  i contacted police hq and they said they wanted me to check up on someone but couldn't remember their name; said they'd get back to me.  there is a strange woman in suglasses who isn't much help.  i can't get to the freakin' ambassador and i can't exit this floor.  what the hell is the trigger......hhhheeeeellllpppp!

Hey all,
greetings from the far east.  so, terraforming.  it is one of the few turbo games i took my time getting to. it was a game that didn't get into my collection until recently.  i had always been intersted in it and i figured until i could start my FX gaming for the summer, i'd give this game the chance it deserved.
for years, people have been saying that it's only an okay game that feels unfinished.  well, i have spent the better part of my free time over the last three days and nights (before and after work) to come to my own opinion.  frankly, i don't know what the hell those people had been talking about 'cause this game is damned good! levels 4 and 6 are incredibly impressive as the Duo does things almost in excess.  level 6 which appears to be a sub-aquatic level and the subsequent boss fight will send you into epileptic fits.  i have never seen so much background...um...activity?...noise...i don't know what to call it. level 4 has such nice, smooth layers and scrolling.  graphics, LOADS of sprites, nice tunes and (i guess syd mead should get credit for this) very effective art design make for a solid package.  i would have paid for this game today.  in fact, i pretty much did. i am seriously impressed with the game.
one thing that was true is that this baby is TOUGH.  i only now beat the game after repeated attempts on the easiest level.  i can't believe there are three more above it in difficulty! of the shooters released in north america, i would have to say that this is the toughest along with magical chase.  the thunder games, cotton, soldier blade, blazing lazers, dead moon and the others gota take a backseat to terraforming in this department for sure.
   Gripes:
1. it's a little hard to see the bullets sometimes because the background is so active and because they match the background color.
2. i played this on magic engine which -DAMMIT- seems to freeze on the opening and closing cinemas.  i beat the 8th stage and sat back waiting for my reward and all i got was a frozen screen.  i don't have the heart to play through it again tonight knowing it will happen again and will now have to wait to back back to my Duo in september or just wait for the movie to come out =(...

i should point out that i played this on a generic pc pad (by sanwa supply) which is geared more for playstation games, i think. the d-pad is garbage so i played through this on the analog pad which, given how briskly this game moves along, made for a remarkably fun experience.
any opinions out there on this one?

hey all, the TML is a little quiet this week so i decided to take nat up on his excellent idea and try here (i also registered at frozenetopia but i haven't received my confirmation yet so, here i am).  i recently got my hands on the 64 meg flash cart for the turbo/pce and absolutely love it! i have two ideas/suggestions i would love to see some work on:

1. i would love to see an e-book/word pad program for the Turbo.  A
little page flip feature and the option to dump text and music would be
great.  See, with this flash cart, the Express becomes a cool way (to
me at least) to carry books, files, lesson plans, phone numbers (hell,
even photos!)whatever with me.  yeah, i could buy a pda but that is not
as cool as the express.  that flash cart has a lot of memory to carry
stuff like that around and as i spend lots of time on trains, planes
and buses, it would be ideal.  this flash cart/express combo has
possibilities aside from just games. anyone?
if no one out there is willing to do this, can you direct me to a turbo
coding tutorial?

2. the more ambitious and perhaps difficult of the two.  the 64/128 meg flash carts make porting CDs and SCDs to the Express! those of you around from the old days have likely seen the express advertisement by TTI which for some reason shows gate of thunder being played on an express.  imagine this, think about it and tell me if this is possible:

most of a turbo CD is wav files, right?
for a game like gate of thunder, what could the actual game size be (minus .wav files? 8megs? 16megs? 32?
now imagine we could make those .wav files into mp3s?
package that code up with the mp3s and the extra two or so megs of memory from a system card and dump it on a 128meg flash card and...voila! we may very easily have dracula x on the go; be it with an express or an LT!

i would love some responses on this.  mind you, i know very little about programming but would love to see someone do this. oh, please say it's possible. please oh please oh please.

A kind of dream-come-true, really.  I am going back to Japan for three months and will be in Tokyo by myself the whole time in a tiny apartment.  I decided to take only one console (decided on two, ultimately) and , for the first time in my life, chose the FX.  I packed it well in my suitcase (leaving the box home) with all necessary accessories and limited myself in game selection.  Part of it was so that I could test out our Miraculum translation thus far.

Now, there are many MANY games I have not finished or woud like to play again as it has been about a few years since I finished an FX title. So, here is the question.  You are in my shoes and your Japanese is not that bad (nor that great, I suppose) and you can take, say, 9 games. What would you do? Here is my list which, by the way, surprises even me:

Miraculum----------because it's probably the best RPG on the console
Power League FX---need that mindless sports fun and replayability once in a while
Chip Chan Kick-----this game is just too fun to play
Deep Blue Fleet----a really good game with a once insurmountable language barrier. can't wait to jump in
Der Langrisser FX--never beat it but i sure as hell will this summer
Team Innocent----my first FX title which i finally intend to complete
Dragon Knight 4---i stupidly lost the memory file on this one so back to the beginning we go
Blue Breaker------someone here brought it up again and it made me want to play it again.
Angelique Special-i didn't like it at first and figure it has to be worth another try.

of course, this is not a list of the best FX games but just of the games i am taking with me. i've decided to take my turbo express with me for other reasons but, the FX it is. and, in the unlikely chance i finish all of these -which i honestly doubt- i will have to set out for a new copy of last imperial prince which  have for some reason never put back into my collection after having sold it ten years ago.

hey all, i need some of your expertise with this.  i have a tv tuner and my express and would like to use it as a monitor.  while in the states recently, i bought a cable from radio shack ($25! yikes) which was 1/8 inch on the end for the tuner and standard a/v on the other side (red/white/yellow). well, it didn't quite work as the image i got was scrambled. the cable worked only when i inserted in 3/4 of the way in. fortunately, i was able to return it and am back to square one. can anyone help with this? is there a specific cable out there someone can point me to? the TML had a few helpful replies but they involved modding which i would prefer not to do.
 anyone?
