10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Quote from: OldRover on 09/04/2014, 06:54 PMAfter I make the move to the mainland (next Friday, woohoo), I will give this more consideration. The others have to be on board with the idea as well though.
That would be awesome! Please keep us posted on that, I would much rather spend the money in support of the actual creator of the game as opposed to buying second-hand

Stumbled across a translated patch for Startling Odyssey II... This is and interesting game to say the least. Im a huge sucker for JRPGs so this one kinda feels at home with me. Some of the translations are a little rough, but 100% playable and enjoyable

Anyway I can jump in on this? I actually ended up with a naked console for a great deal, so that there controller would let me PLAY the damn thing instead of it just sitting it in the corner, lonely and neglected as it has been lately :(
#206
I would love to get in on this raffle!

I was a huge fan of the Suikoden games on PSX. The 108 playable characters, 6 man party, rune system... Love those games!
#207
Guess I would have to say im a HUcard kinda guy

This post seems a little dated, but if its still set up to go, sign me up for one. Im @ 30606 in Ga.

Quote from: johnnymad on 08/10/2014, 06:15 PMI ended up using these for my mod. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=16637366 Put a little solder on the pins and slipped these over them. Heated up solder and had a solid connection. Not the most professional way, but my soldering skills had diminished since the last time I soldered. Had to make it work somehow. :)
What I had found in the same little "Schmart" jumpers that Johnnymad had mentioned b4 (I conveniently over-looked said post 1 day prior to packing and sending mine away :/ ) Just figured I would try to spread the knowledge since not everyone is able to/is willing to cut and solder on their babies, and those things would definitely make the work cleaner and easier for most. Im working on figuring out a cost effective way to get my hands on more of those, either by means of a bulk store order since Im a manager at a radioshack, or maybe try to source the actual tabs from the makers over at Schmart.

Seeing all those rad cases REALLY makes me want one of these things now! Hopefully once this round is all sent out accordingly we can do round 2...  [-o<

Seems a little high for Order of the Griffon, any wiggle room on the price?

Trying to find a copy of this around somewhere. No luck with the makers,  from what I understand they're not printing anymore nor do they have anymore to sell. I did just see one come up on ebay, but the seller is gouging that thing at 150$ no way in hell would I would even consider spending that much on a homebrew. Id go to maybe 45-50 since It was a limited print, but that's gonna be about it.

I do have CD capabilities and in a few days will have PCE and SCD abilities as well
#214
Did some trading and ended up with SFII sealed. Bought Riot Zone "used" from amazon and low and behold, it shows up and its sealed  ! As far as I can tell its legit, not a reseal

Shit, my phone never works right... Pics to come when i get off tonite
#215
Awesome, thanx dude! By the power of our fingers crossed and a prayer to the Turbogods, your scans will surely be most righteous  [-o<
#216

looks awesome! thanks again for helping me out, I was at witts end with that thing. Got that money sent your way earlier...cant wait to get her back in and jam out on some Rondo of Blood!
#218
SOOOoooo I found some cool little wire thingys that I believe will make this mod MUCH easier than it is. Ill get some pics of these fellas posted up here soon. Essentially the idea is that these connectors will easily slip over the pins that you have to clip from the back of the card slot, the wire can be attached to the other end of these jumpers, so there will no longer be a need to solder on the HUcard pins themselves.

I sent some of these out to Turbokon so he can test fit some of these so we can determine if they will in fact work. Also looks like they may be a good fit to jump off of the rear I/O pins for a homebrew AV method... more to come soon....
#219
Am I too "green" to get in on this raffle?
#220
Those 2 are good titles, played through both of them a few times now. Just not enough 2 player co-op games
#221
Just incase you werent aware, the is a translated Ys IV ROM floating around on the net. Im sure you could find it on The Internet I know you want to own the original hardware for collector's sake, but instead of reading translations, you could get the patched ROM and play that on your console still

*edit*

Do not post links to isos/roms.

After reading through this thread, I have officially decided to make Bloody Wolf my next TG16 purchase. Ive always heard how good it was but I have never actually played it. Even though im more of an RPG/puzzle player on my turbo, I bet I can at least get my wife to play it with me! I always try to get her to play but she says all the games I like to play look boring to her. So maybe a little shootin' and motorcycle ridin' will get her interested!
#223
Some pretty ridiculous price gouging over on Amazon also, especially on those TTI titles. You can however score some decent deals on some PCengine imports on there tho.
#224
At the begining on the year, I opened a sealed Bonk... Got it for the price of a used one and i really wanted to play it. Did the ol' slit-on-top-right-at-the-flap method to mantain its pristine goodness

Quote from: escarioth on 08/20/2014, 12:04 AMI could help with the following if anyone need them i could try to find a good scanner

(if you ever have a deep blue manuel ...its the only one loose i got that i try to make complete)
I would personally love a scan of Dracula X, dragon slayer maps, Ys III and Valis III
#226
Id love to take a swing at this one! Buddy of mine keeps telling me I need to get a copy of this game, i have never even played it
#227
Roughly translates into something along the lines of: "Thanks"  :-"
#228
Still no news on a projected completion? Not trying to be a thorn in anybody's side, but between this translation and Anearth, I am one excited RPG-fan! especially since they are for my favorite system  8)
#229
So how far off from completion is this project at this point?
#230
Was playing Cosmic Fantasy 2 before I put my TG16 under the knife... Once I get her back from Turbokon, ill probally put it on the backburner and start up Ys IV
#231
When I was last looking around for it, seems like around 100$ for it loose was common, 160-200 with case & manny. Id say 120-150 for it with case, depending on how badly you want it.

A little off subject, but i recently heard someone somewhere is mass producing fake Snatchers for segaCD. They are being sold off as discs only but apparently the label quality is flawless, but it is on a completely blank disc!
#232
Brown Santa just brought me Dragon Slayer 2 and Xanadu! sorry for the lack of visual evidence
#233
Awesome thread! Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule of being a total badass to be able to post such nice HQ scans for us here! Yay! Now half of my collection wont look so ugly with loose cards and discs in naked cases.

Any possibility that someone has a good scan of Dynastic Hero and Ys III?
#234
Looks friggin' sweet! Ive heard the game has an amazing soundtrack as well
#235
I definately remember Electronics Boutique in my town advertising the TG16 for $299.99 when they got them in... the more I think about it tho, it may have been a bundle deal. EB used to like doing bundles with consoles.

Ill NEVER Forget my dreamcast bundle I bought from them for $69.99... came with a second OEM controller and any game of my choice!

oops, didnt mean to repost :) then my efforts were in vain!
#237
Scored Final Zone II CIB, Sherlock Holmes I CIB, Sim Earth, and Theron's Quest last week from Wmac here on PCEFX. Thanks again for the deal WMac! He even tossed in a sealed Hudson collectors soundtrack CD!

My TG16 is fedex-bound to Turbokon for a region mod, hopefully it will be finished and Ill have it back by the time my copy Streeet Fighter II JPN that I ordered shows up
#238
Yea dude, those look fantastic! Definitely sign me up for that raffle, or hell, ill gladly purchase a set of these. Just gimmie a price and an email where i can send some cash!
#239
Ya it seems like the ad campaigns back then were fashioned around promoting the titles and names instead of the hardware itself. That piled on top of the fact that gaming was more of an underground following at the time, and that kids had to leave the decision making to mom and dad, big names and franchises always came in for the win. And dont forget, when the Turbografx dropped over here in the states, it cost twice as much as any of its competitor's console did.
#240
I live in Athens GA, and in my town we have a little used game store called Ugame. Its on the UGA campus so there is always cool stuff the comes through there. Havent seen much TG16 stuff lately since I bought them out of an avenue 6 and a few loose HUcards, but here and there they get some in. Pretty fair with prices too, always lower than Feebay and Amazon.
#241
After many a headache and hours of hair pulling, ive decided to contract Turbokon to help me get this thing finished. I know he can do some awesome work just based on what Ive seen on his site and around here. Was really excited about getting this done myself, but with planning stuff for my wedding here in less than a month and being short-staffed at work, my patience has worn thin and my freetime is far and inbetween here lately. At this point it would be nice to be able to devote my little free time to actually playing this thing rather than tinkering with it, so ill leave it to a pro to handle for now. Myabe once all is said and done around here and I get some of MY time back, perhaps ill take a swing at an RGB mod... or maybe region mod my saturn like ive been talking about for over a year now...

Anyway I could hop in on this raffle? I know im not quite at 50 posts, but I try to be as active on here as I can when time and work permit me to do so. Maybe by the time the drawing happens ill be up there....
#243
I would like in on the card sleeve raffle please, especially since it seems that my favorite/most collectable games are naked with out cases. Also, PM sent about the carry case... if its still available that is.
#244
did that from the start... i always tin everything before i try to burn things on. Its almost as if the pins dont really want to take in solder too well
#245
How bout a shot of the top side so i can see wire on those damn pins... thats where my issue is
#246
The pins on the system off the back of the card slot
#247
OMG!!! Im about to sling this damn mobo across my living room!!!  ](*,)
SOOOOooooo Im trying to prep my TG16 for the mod chip, but I am having one HELL of a time keeping all these f*cking wire leads from popping off at the solder points. can someone PLEEEEEZ post some pics of thier main boards with this mod finished so I can get some ideas on how to lay out/route these damn wires so that when i tug them and move them around they will stop breaking free?! Ive been soldering for years and even do it for part of my job. I have built and repaired phones, tvs, other game systems, vehicle electrical systems... but Ive never had so much trouble with a solder point being so weak. Maybe the board-side pins I should attach on the top side of the board and just do the top pins on the underside....? Next option after I finish pulling out my hair is to just ship this thing to Keith or someone who could knock this out for me. shields are removed, switch is mounted already, and pins are cliped...
#248
Ill also make sure I get sum nice juicy photo evidence of all the dirty work that goes on inside once I get my tg16 stripped........... man that sounds really questionable
#249
I have tried one of the convertors DB is making and it worked awesome for the import games, but my friend and I had no luck with Super System card 3.0 or Arcade Pro card. Decided to go full region mod on mine after we determined this
#250
Cool beans! No worries on that bro, just making sure it wasnt the kinda thing where an order needed to be placed before the part would actually be built. Im just super anxious and wanted to go ahead and prep my console with said switch and wires so once my mailman drops by, all i gots to do is burn that bad boy in!
Thank you for providing us with such a deliciously sweet chip to satisfy our every turbografx desire!  [-o<
