Quote from: cireza on 02/01/2018, 04:06 PMThanks again. Sorry I should have checked the forum, I am still getting used to this place
Don't sweat it, the search function is kinda strange on here, so if things are bumped in the first few pages it's easy to miss these things.

Quote from: cireza on 01/31/2018, 03:34 AMI started looking at the games you recommended, and also at all games available on CD and Super CD. Of course I have not been through the entire list yet...
Gotzendiener (really liked what I saw on this one)
I am also building a list of games I need to check some more.
Gotzendiener is really cool, but i should mention that it A) is somewhat short B) feels unfinished as several things in the game don't have a know use but it also has a cool metroid lonely feeling also C) I still enjoy it a ton, and find it a really neat bit of gaming.

yeah, I responded before you edited some stuff around.  I agree with your edit version more than the original.  I also didn't mean to say he directly said to his audience that "This is bad"  but he did say "you guys know this may have problems"  That's paraphrased of course.

What I was getting at is what you're saying that the forum post was then easily turned around as the TO guys felt they were being attacked even though that wasn't the case.

I feel that yes you are right that they were not 100% professional about the situation in that regard, but I do feel that are at least better off than a lot of other items/games/projects I've seen and it's not fair to say CrackTiger is some sort of crazy person for suggesting that they are in fact handling some aspects well. (although I agree with you and NecroPhile's post in saying that they were not 100 upfront on it, and to some degree believed that the issues were not their fault)

Grudge is probably strong . . . I am saying that this all boils down to internet drama for me, the guys at TO will fix the stuff and RBG will move on. and it may be worth buying one after it all sorts out.

Quote from: PukeSter on 01/30/2018, 07:11 PMI'm definitely one of the younger guys here, could use some advice/hear some other perspectives.

Currently a Sophomore, life is okay, though our dog died from leukemia last month. I have a small group of friends but not much outside of that. One of my best friends last year transferred. Last year was a bit more exciting, especially since I was getting used to the campus. I also had a girlfriend for several months so life was good. Now, I realize how small it is, and it's starting to get old. My schedule this semester is definitely better but I cannot wait to stop having to do a language class every day, and my afternoon physics class is a drag.

My brother is a freshman at my school, so we hang on weekends usually. I know what I want to major in, though I don't necessarily know what I would end up in. My overall grades are very good, though I hope to improve a bit in my major. Trying to get a job for the summer, so I'm not bored at home.
"it all comes out in the wash" <- one of the best pieces of advice I ever got.  My sophomore year I had no clue what I wanted to do, ending up taking some classes and finding out what I liked and turned that into grad school. Now less than 4 years from starting in the field I'm running the same things that people with 3X my experience are. If your smart and stay with it, you'll figure it out. Enjoy being in a world where you can get away with a ton of crap you'll never be able to again, and take every day as an opportunity to learn more about yourself as well as the world.

The younger generation is under some idea you have to have your life figured out before your 25, and there is some magical point it becomes "easy"  life isn't a lazy river, it's an ocean of currents, tides, and tsunamis.  but you know that when I look at it's still damn beautiful.  Get your degree and the rest will fall into place, don't worry about the debt you'll figure that out, worry about you. worry about going out and enjoying life.  walk around the dorms, meet people, road trip, play lots of video games, whatever makes you happy.  Hell if you find yourself not enjoying by the end of the year visit and transfer to PSU or temple or any other bigger school.

The take away I'm trying to get at is it is just a bump in the road man, it'll pass. there will be new exciting classes/internships/projects and other girls and friends to meet.

Quote from: CZroe on 01/30/2018, 02:11 PMa completely innocent Good Samaritan who could have saved them thousands of Euros if they had responded differently and has nothing to do with the resulting debacle.

I implore you to actually look at the three or four RetroRGB weekly updates where Bob discusses SSDSys3. Time codes are in the descriptions.
Bob never called it a disaster.
He never told people to demand refunds.
He never asked for a free unit.
Bob was supportive.
Bob was enthusiastic.
Bob was sympathetic.

Even when confronted with a screenshot clearly showing that he only asked to borrow one, they doubled-down on the claim and further riled up the community against it. They claimed that "borrowed" was code for "free" because no one borrows a review unit and companies can't use the returned units, ignoring that reviewers and producers actually do this all the time. Not only has Bob done this numerous times, he went on to arrange it with another member here who enthusiastically ordered it within 15 minutes of it going on sale.

Bob was offering the exact same help as Voultar before release. They are associated, you know. Bob has been nothing but supportive and sympathetic to their project. They viciously continued attacking him and blaming him and even had the nerve to complain that he sold his own personal NeoSD without reviewing it. News flash: People are allowed to sell their stuff. He paid for that with his own money and planned to get another for a future comparison. He had no obligation and it wasn't even related to his field of expertise (video).
Not that I am condemning you, but your whole reasoning for boycotting a project is because a Youtube personality was attacked wrongly in your opinion ?   He was criticizing their product . . . of course there is a large area here where misunderstandings could enter the equation.

If your such a fan of bob as you stated, than should you not like him should realize this and continue to support the project and understand these thing happen????   It is not a matter of absolving the team of wrong doing but rather of understanding, and accepting that humans are imperfect.  holding them accountable is one thing and a good thing! But holding grudges doesn't seem like a healthy lifestyle.

Sorry, just seemed a bit hypocritical and maybe I am being a bit dense?

Resume back to the normal drama filled posts.

Road Spirits plays itself, but he also mentioned some INTENSE SHINING GEMS. That Ranma game is really fun and like $10 or something.
Yeah but you can pick up RS for super cheap.  I was trying to pick a variety of games that aren't too expensive to start with.  Most of those games aren't going to blow anyone out of the water, but you could have fun with em all, even if a few are teh easy/not a whole lotta replay.   You could pick up most of that list for decent prices and enjoy a variety of games off the bat kinda deal.  I'm sure the OP will check them out and see if they are games they could possible enjoy.  At least that was my thinking, I'm not suggesting everyone run out and get RS or Jo.  (Energy and Wonder Momo would be better choices hahaha  <- do actually enjoy those games too though)

Note: For games like Ys or Dac X OR download/tiger/heli (WHICH ARE FRIGGIN AWESOME AS HELL) you can always emulate/CDR or try em fist before you buy them.  Which I would suggest, nothing worse than spending 100-500 USD on a game to find out you don't like it very much.

I don't really know about Nintendo passion, never was a big fan, however my Sega passion is still going strong after all these years 8)

Thanks for the games list, I will check it out tomorrow.

Is Prince of Persia some kind of rolling gag around here ?
I watched some gameplay and it looked pretty good. Also, great music.

Why are there some switches above the I and II buttons on the controllers ? What a strange design. I believe most games only use two buttons anyway ?
1) We're making fun of Prince of Persia as a single suggestion because it's a bit odd to list by itself. it's okay but nothing special.  there are several great CD games like the Ys series that are amazing. also, Zeta tends to be a bit ornery every now and then, but he's a good guy.

2)  Those switches are for turbo controls for each button.  Especially useful for the many shoot em ups.   Several games do offer a third button command most often mapped to select. there are 3 button controllers you can get.  A standard PCE pad will work just fine for most of the non-fighting games.

Quote from: OldTurboBastard on 01/28/2018, 09:37 PMOP has nothing at all to be ashamed of. The market is the market. I'm not telling anyone anything they don't already know by saying the supply is low for these late run games and there are people out there that want them.....which means the price goes up to these ridiculous amounts. Mind you no way in hell i'd ever pay these amounts but low supply + demand = $$$$. Why should games be any different?

Do coin collectors get this much flack for not spending their mint rare 1943 pennies at face value?
If a collector walked into a pawn shop and asked for a double eagle out of the blue, for 10-20% off market value, they would get a ton of shit.  Over the years this has happened here repeatedly to people who don't care much other than to make money or earn shelf candy.  You've been here long enough to see one or two I'm sure.

I'm not saying the OP did anything wrong per say,  but when you are looking for the rarest of items, know there is only a small chance anyone has one, and aren't an active member other than to buy/see/trade, people here are going to say something about it.  probably a bit unfair at times, but justified most of the time.

No one is saying that supply and demand aren't affecting the price or that the price is wrong, just that most of us, like you, won't pay it.  (Although I would argue there are more MC than some other late games out there and that the supply is somewhat exaggerated by E-bay and the internet culture of youtube/twitch/amazon/ etc.)

Quote from: guest on 01/26/2018, 10:22 AMIndeed, the old one had a mechanical program select wheel, I don't know if there was a motor or clockwork involved for further automatically turning the wheel once the program got started. The new one's program selection wheel is a simple rotary selector, no motors involved, just to mimic the old wheels, with LEDs showing the current status. It could have used simple push buttons for every program instead, with next to none electronic difference.
I had a discussion like this on another forum recently, and came to the conclusion those older washing machines can pretty much last forever if they're taken care of.  Mine started going out several months ago (it was making a clicking during the spin cycle) and I was able to diagnose it as the motor coupling.  Took me a couple hours and like $8 in parts but it's working good as new now.

Same thing with my dryer, I've fixed a couple different things on it (gas valve, heat element, thermal fuse) and have probably not put more than $40 in it over all.  Both of these were made in like 2002 according to the serial numbers as well.

All the fancy electronics just add more to get screwed up and are expensive to replace.  Makes sense why companies put them in now though, instead of being able to repair something now you have to buy a BRAND NEW one from them to replace it.
we threw out the 1957 dryer in 2014.  only because we could no longer get the correct parts for it.  the parts guy said this: "We found these in a barn in Indiana, there are literally no more left in our systems, our competitor systems or any know parts yard"  next time it breaks you'll have to buy a new one. "

Yup - Glad it's being handled well, hope everyone ends up happy

Nope - not going to say that criticism is warranted.

That being said I'm not going to call this a total shit failure either, I still hope to possibly pick one up when all the problems are resolved.  I mean nothing is going to 100% perfect, the original damn systems weren't.

Zeta, I get the football argument, I love the matchup of the games at each position so it doesn't bother me, but If I had no interest in it, literally it'd be terrible to watch. this is why I don't watch baseball.  I find I can follow most other sports without issue.

I have a theory of why people love football.  . . it's for the same reason people love watching car races.  most of the time it's boring but there are these moments of pure violence, action, extraordinary circumstances, that they are glued just waiting for them.

maybe I overthink though

Quote from: Gredler on 01/24/2018, 01:39 PMLundqvist is the boundary pusher for equipment developments - he basically started the massive thigh rise movement IMHO if not just popularizing it. My wife also thinks he's very handsome, so I hate him for that reason as well. Ugly goalies with form fitting equipment, that's my jam! :P

Price's shakey start had a lot of fantasy owners trembling that he was falling off the wagon, but he's picked it back up it seems, playing like his old calm self again.
i don't think you can put that all on Lundy.  IT was a trend before he came along it was 2005 when they made them wear form fitting jerseys and downsize to 15" and 45" gloves. it was only a matter of time till they pushed the limits elsewhere.  Roy and Brodeur collective style also played a role in it IMO.

Because I actually hate all sports I don't really know what I'm talking about but having played soccer video games and watched them on TV I have trouble understanding that stat. Soccer is 45 each way plus stoppage and shootouts. Doesn't that mean it more or less has to have 90+ minutes every time?
The clock runs constantly in the highest levels, and time is not always added to stoppage for all the throw in's, when the goalie holds the ball etc. in fact the referees just add whatever the heck they want to the end and just call the end when the action stops.  Most of those stats for all the sports get real specific about these things.  like when you watch baseball, seeing the pitcher get signs and what not is part of the game, but not included in the "action time"  same thing with huddles, audibles, etc.

Also I quite like football, and I'm okay with the 11-15 minutes of actual play.

that being said I still think golf is worse to watch in that regard, even the action is slow paced.  here's a fun table though.  notice that the two most popular are also devoid of the most action.

Sport   Clock Duration   Amt of Action   % of Action

all up to preference

I like most of them

I find the ave 3 to the most comfortable personally. if you play a lot of fighters you'll prob. wnat a 3 or 6 button controller.  if you just play in general, just get a standard pad that works.  IF you like a more arcade feel any of the arcade sticks are great.
