10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

I've only heard good things about Betrayal and I can't wait to try it out. Eldritch Horror is my favorite, but it probably isn't a good fit. You could also try a horror themed Munchkin game. It's not a board game, but its fun and easy to play.

Quote from: deadly_duck on 09/21/2015, 06:58 AMThe Makaimura series. I haven't played the supergrafx version, but typically pushing start and watching the intro is easy and the difficulty jumps exponentially after that.

Not including the Demon's Crest offshoots.
Haha, I have not played Ghouls and Ghosts on the SGX, but I've played the Genesis version so many times, I can easily make it to the last level (in HArd mode) without dying, as long as I don't have to commit suicide to avoid crappy weapons. If the SGX version is similar to Genesis/Arcade, then it absolutely belongs in this list, as the last level does ramp up the difficulty exponentially and it seems like 90% of the baddies there have random patterns.
Most of my experience is with the Famicom title. It's good if you are a masochist.

I don't think Baccano! has been mentioned.

Gantz is also interesting; not great, but interesting.

The main images would make a pleasant shirt. Something nice to wear for a con. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself though.

Is anyone making these? I've seen many systems being sold without them. My searching only turned up with the confirmation that the covers exist.

Most people only seem to be seeking out Duo card port covers or CD lids.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 09/15/2015, 07:18 PMSpindles don't scratch discs, people do.
Yeah, you could qualify a statement about spindles with "if you look through the discs a lot" and it would be more accurate. There's just a greater chance of scratches when a person handles a stack of loose discs.

It's a fine way to store discs that you don't plan on taking out often (or if you keep them fully stacked). These things were designed to have discs removed and used somewhere else. A box is better because there's less chance of dust or junk getting in between the discs...or if you have a covered spindle.

That being said, I'm pretty accident prone and, therefore, overly cautious with stuff.

EDIT:
To be fair, anything you handle a lot has a higher chance of scratchery. There are just more games involved with spindles/boxes. Where as with single cases you are only dealing with 1-2 discs.

Quote from: deadly_duck on 09/15/2015, 07:03 AMI started looking into "obscure" systems a while back...
Quote from: deadly_duck on 09/18/2015, 07:07 AM...I wish the duo looked less bland though.
Someone stop me...I know PCFXers have a rap for being assholes a-la N-G forumites but these here are fighting words! Duo is pure sex unlike it's fat pale white younger brother the R(X). Turbo was never an unknown obscure system to me, got it back in '90 and never looked back. Maybe games got hard to find in the late 90's but mom and pop used games stores and the list-serv helped me continue to get more games to play and trade.

Welcome to the forum, and I hope you have a thick skin...remember, it's just text on a screen.

PS: A decent amount of us to not hide behind the screen, we get up at a few cons and gatherings so keep an eye out for posts about meet-ups...get your true obey experience.
Oh I meant the R. The black duo is hot.
I put obscure in quotes because its more of comment on today's view on retro systems. Everyone and their grandmothers know Nintendo. A little less so with Sega. The TG16 just isn't widely known now outside of the retro/collector circles.

Quote from: 780racer on 09/15/2015, 07:52 PMYou should consider a DUO if you are getting into it. I dont want to down play the TG16 because it is awesome, but having the DUO makes you able to play ALL of the great PCE/DUO games.
The Duo R is in my sights. I wish the duo looked less bland though. I like the way the Core looks. Maybe I'll get one as a backup/for travel. I think there are enough good card games to justify it.

Flip it on the bay. Those special colored editions are super rare. Slab and grade it to preserve its freshness.

Not entirely true.  A lot of us are members there.  There's also quite a few who trickle in that are regulars over there.  Quite a few members are over there are good members.  With how much shit surrounds that system it is kinda obvious why it attracts so many of the crazies, causing the forum to have so many morons and assholes.
Yeah I understand. I'm actually a member there as well (a pretty new one). It really depends on which part of the forum you're on (I really enjoy the NGPC crowd). There's similar people in all console followings, but, like you said, the nature of the NeoGeo etc...

I meant it all in good fun.

Just a quick hello and a bit about me and the TG16.

I started looking into "obscure" systems a while back and the TG16 caught my attention in a big way and got me back into retro gaming. I started with an Atari 2600 and bounced around to other systems. My attention is finally back and I'm saving for my first system while I try out games via emulation.

Glad to be aboard.

Usually I see how far I can get in Castlevania 3, but I will also knock out some Windjammers or PuyoPuyo

Quote from: Jinxed on 09/14/2015, 09:31 PMYeah I could see them getting pretty scratched up in a spindle too.
I used to use spindles for disks. They get scratched up quick if you are going through them regularly, and it's a huge pain to find anything.

My preferred method is DVD cases since you can get art that fits a DVD case now for most games and it looks/fits nicely on a shelf. However, I've started keeping the actual disks in a binder near the system for ease of use.

My issue with paper sleeves is that they don't offer great protection.

It really depends on your space limitations and how much presentation you want.
