Unfortunately, I'm far to be a "genius"...
And i'm agree, with the "cycle system", do not put more than 4 games.

with the pic, you can make an interesting thing (that i've already used in other systems like master system, megadrive(genesys), super nintendo...)
Use the reset line to switch games (and save the state in the pic memory).
When you power cycle, the games loaded will always be the same unless you make a reset. (run+select on pce/tg if i'm not wrong)
the pic cost is completely out of problem (less than 1$, what a joke) and 100% free if you use the microchip samples parts.

Maybe turbokon will use this kind of thing in a future version.

I'll stop writing here, i think i've already polluted his thread.

PS. yes for the flip flops, but as you stated it can not work alone, so a pic is more easy to integrate (8 pins, far more than 4 games).

Quote from: guest on 04/25/2016, 12:41 PMSo by the time you add a microcontroller, rom to hold the boot loader thingy, and additional rom for multiple games it'll look exactly the same as these and not cost any more?  Sweet!
You seems to speak about something you do not understand, so i will not spent time in technical explanation.
I've used and make code for few µC past years.
Like bankswitching for games or far more advanced things (mappers).
The main problem with a physical switch is its reliability...

With a very tiny pic you can make nice little things, like this compilation :
(gameboy / megaman xtreme 1 & 2 (translations)/ cycle with on-off)

Completely different process and price.
You lose

I'm not "a team".
Ultimate-consoles is a forum (like this place) where i'm the administrator, that's all.

A physical switch to change games is completely...archaic   :?
Nowadays you should use a µC (like a pic) to achieve this properly without this old-school manipulation.
You can also put more than 2 games (and add a selection menu, but that's another story).
For 2 games the best way is to just cycle them with the on/off power switch.

Update made.
Prices lowered (~1,5$ on each card type)
#8
Hi guys, some of you send me PM recently.
I'll update prices & offers in few hours.
To be short : I'll remove the mask part, as it take too much time to fab (last time 4 weeks...).
So I'll give EPS files to make/fab them by yourself.
#9
Thanks guys ;)

IMPORTANT
Do not forget to create (or edit) the customdevices.txt file in the GQ4x directory and add the lines i've written in the 1st post.
Because the 29F080 description for the cards is not the same as the 29F080 already available in the list.
With the Willem programmer, you'll need to move the jumpers for 29F080 / 39SF040 - 29F040.

To prepare your files before flashing,
use my little app available in the 1st post (named huconv v1.5)
it will remove header and generate 2 files (for US and JAP hardware)

Thanks Lost Monkey ^^

@Trenton.
Masks are the plastic part glued on the bottom to achieve the right thickness. With each card comes a mask. You just have to choose the short or long version. Short is reprogrammable after paste whereas the long one can not be reprogrammed.

For the label, yes i've got a template.
I will add it tomorrow (a photoshop PSD file, made at 600dpi)

The original project was not for "classic" people, but for those who already have soldering experience and materials. My only main goal was to make a nice "low cost" hucard.

So :

-  the mask are not adhesive, use strong fast-drying glue.

- The adapter if fairly easy to solder, it's dip type (through hole).
It comes in kit to be much more easy to ship
Not included with the cards.

- label : adhesive photo paper.
I'm using this : http://tinyurl.com/Sigel-waterproof-film
A little bit expensive, but very high quality.

Thanks !

I've put the price for pre-soldered cards and an update of my little soft (to prepare rom before flashing).
Now my soft makes 2 files, one for JAP consoles (***[PCE].bin) and one for US consoles (***[TG16].bin)
#12
Thanks ;)

I've made a little update on my script ton prepare rom before flashing.
Now it makes 2 roms :
- 1 for JP console
- 1 for US consoles (as their datas lines are reversed)

I'm waiting some tests from a friend (because i've only got Japanese consoles) before releasing it.

+ I will put the prices for hucards pre soldered (not preflashed)

For any question PM me.

I really hope you're kidding !
That's really a huge amount of $ (even converted in €)

"Real" collectors must (should ?) know what is legit/real and what is not
#15
I do not remember perfectly, maybe from deviantart.

I've bought a stencil for my reflow oven (will arrive in few days)
So I could sell some cards pre soldered.

For the moment i've got only some 39sf040 (max 512ko) eeprom in stock (~50)
Prices will be adjusted accordingly.
#18
Thanks guys !

Actually *I can*  presolder eeprom (i've got some soldering skills, a reflow oven, solder paste) but i do not have stock on eeprom and no specific stencil for the oven for the card (to place the solder paste on the right place).
I will make a quote if you're interested. (with each type of eeprom soldered)

The label is "just" a sticker.

Hi everybody.

Few years ago i've made some hucards.
Some members have bought them through ebay.
IMG

Now, a new version is available.
Much more "sexier" than the old one.
IMG
IMG
Two colors available black and white.
It's nearly a flashcard.
Can handle 1Mo/8mbits roms (depends on your soldered tsop eeprom)

They are 2 parts :
- the pcb "card"
- a laser cutted polypropylene mask, must be glued on the bottom side to achieve the right thickness.
Without it, the card can not work properly (as it does not make contact).

IMG-IMG

2 mask sizes available :
- "short", the card can be reprogrammed (with the mask glued)
- "full", the card can not be reprogrammed

The adapter is fully compatible with the GQ4x and Willem programmers.
IMG

TSOP eeproms compatible:
  • 39SF020 (2Mbits /256ko)
  • 29F040 (4Mbits / 512ko)
  • 39SF040 (4Mbits / 512ko)
  • 29F080 (8Mbits / 1Mo)

PS. Just in case :
for a 384ko game you'll need a 512ko eeprom
and for a 768ko game you will need a 1Mo eeprom.

Be careful, soldering skills are required : you'll need to solder TSOP chips!/b]

IMPORTANT *** UPDATE 02/2016

Concerning "MASK" (the polypropylen part)
Now you send to fab YOUR mask as it takes too much time to fab & ship them (takes 1 month last time to fab them...I prefer to stop)
Files are avaible on the bottom of this post (ready to send to fab)
You can make mask with Ponoko (USA), Formulor.de (Europe/Germany),...

Prices :

"DIY" CARDS (you will have to solder the tsop eeprom part),
price for pack of 5 cards. (no mask)

  • x5 white card : 19$
  • x5 black card : 24$

PRE-SOLDERED CARDS,
price for 1 card (no mask).

  • x1 white card + 512ko : 6$
  • x1 black card + 1Mo : 7$
  • x1 white card + 512ko : 7$
  • x1 black card + 1Mo : 8$

  • Mask only : 1$ -- not available --
  • Adapter : 8$

Prices are without shipping
Can be with or without tracking, insured...

FILES TO FAB THE MASK PART
- Card "long"
HuCARD_cache-UNIVERSEL-courtProg.eps.zip

- Card "short"
HuCARD_cache-UNIVERSEL-long.eps.zip

- 1 complete sheet 384 x 384mm / 15.100x15.100 inches (7 "short" and 21 "long")
hucard_pcb_21long%2B7courts.eps.zip

ps. Files are EPS Illustrator files.

Ponoko website  (USA/New Zealand):
ponoko.com/
Choose Delrin (0.032 inches)or PETG - Clear (0.039 inches) as material
(Acrylic seems not to have right thickness)

On Formulor* (Europe based on Germany)
formulor.de/
Choose Acrylic (1mm) or Polypropylen (0.8mm)

Payment : PayPal
- 120 cards of each color in stock
- laser cutted masks are made in Germany (on demand). Fab takes ~10 days.

Due to forum restrictions/rules, instead of a prepared rom set this is a little soft to prepare your rom before flashing it.
Download: HuCONV_v1.5.zip
Backup: wayback://ultimate-consoles.fr/HuCONV_v1.5.zip
(detect header, region and removed them/make region free)

No install, just unzip and drag your rom.pce on the icon to get your prepared rom.
Make in python 7 (if somes want the .py file, PM) - Compiled for windows (.exe)

For GQ4x users, I've made some lines to add at your customdevices.txt (or create it if you do not have it)

Unfortunately to make a low cost solution, the eeprom can not be enclosed.
To completely close the eeprom part, it's only possible with a 3D print or plastic injection (mold).
Expensive solutions in both cases.

I do not know how much are DB's elec cards, but surely much more expensive than mine.
If anyone knows the price... i'm curious ^^

I'll open a thread if some members are interested in buying some of mine.
For the moment you'll need a programmer (GQ4x or Willem programmer) but it's planned to make a standalone programmer (hope next year). Too much projects to finish before.

Quote from: esteban on 09/28/2015, 08:08 PMI don't mind the exposed EPROM on the bottom! Out of sight, out of mind!

At the begining (~1 year ago), i've made the same pcb as DB, but the mold were far too expensive. (~8000€).

So I've found another way, with a polypropylene (or acrylic) sheet on the bottom (laser cutted).
2 sizes, a short one and a "full" (long) version, the short make the card reflashable (like a flashcard). The "full" can not be reprogrammable (because of thickness).

A little presentation (sorry in French) :
Pictures above are fully working cards.
A TSOP eeprom is soldered on the bottom side.
