Received mine today, ordered from Stone Age Gamer in the US over the weekend. It came w/ the hardware fixes already applied and latest firmware already installed. I don't see any visual or hear any audio problems at all.

The standard 2-button NEC pads are awesome.
For 6-button, I like the Hori better than the Avenue 6.
For 3-button, I like the Avenue 3 better than the Blaster Pad.
For arcade sticks I like Hori Fighting Stick PC the best.
But none of the PC-Engine controllers I've used have been bad, just some felt better than others.
I've never tried the Arcade Pad 6 (Duo-RX pad), I've read that the d-pad on it is not great. And I've never had the pleasure of trying any of the weird analog controllers but there's only a few games that work with those anyway.

Saw this unknown-to-me control pad for sale on the famous auction site and it got me curious enough to Google it for 5 minutes... after my exhaustive search I couldn't find any info about it online. ](/forums/Smileys/default/eusa_wall.gif "Brick wall")
The shape looks like the normal control pads, but there is no HE logo on the front so maybe it is aftermarket. And is that a slow-mo switch on the back?

I received my DUO from him last night and everything works great, it is in perfect cosmetic condition as well. Played a CD-R of Rondo of Blood for an hour or so, no problems. 
He also repaired my Sega CD system, and communication was great throughout the process.
Highly recommended!

If not a 6-button controller (Hori fighting pad or sticks are my favorite), the Avenue Pad 3 at least gives you a third button that you can map to SELECT or RUN using a switch, for games like this one which use those as an action button.

I paid USD$29+ship, total under $40 for a boxed one in like-new condition. I have the standard 2-button turbo pad (gray and orange), an Avenue Pad 3, and a fighting commander PC and the Hori is my favorite of those 3.
I was worried that it was a lot of money to spend on a pretty basic controller for essentially 1 game, but I end up using it for every game, except for the handful of games that use start/select in-game as action buttons; in those cases I use the avenue pad 3...
I also have the Hori fighting stick which I prefer to any of the pads for fighting games or shooters. I prefer pads for platformers and strategy/RPG games. And my wife prefers I never use the fighting stick because it is so noisy.

Greetings all, I newly joined this site and recently purchased my first PC-Engine, with a few random games included.
I am almost 40, I grew up mainly playing Atari 2600, Colecovision, NES, and Genesis, as well as PC games (Apple ][, C64 and IBM PC). I was always interested in pictures of PC-Engine/TG16 games in old magazines but none of my friends ever had a TG16 so I was never able to see the games in person. Fast-forward many years when emulators become a thing, I got to try some of these games for the first time and I really regretted not playing them earlier in my life.
Now lately I'm getting into buying old consoles that I never had when I was a kid, recently got Master System, Game Boy Color, SNES, Game Gear and the PCE. (I did have about 8 Master system games that I played on the Genesis w/ a converter but never owned a SMS proper... until now!)
My favorite kind of games are shoot 'em ups, beat 'em ups, and platformers, so it seems PCE has plenty of those games to choose from. I'll get an Everdrive but I do like to buy physical copies of games that I love.
I fully expect to be upgrading to a CDROM attachment or Duo someday... but thought I should start off small and see how it goes.
Ghouls n Ghosts was one of my favorites as a kid, and I was always fascinated by SuperGrafx after seeing pictures of it in magazines, and I was tempted to try to buy one... but that's a big price tag for a couple extra games.
So, thank you for having me, and I look forward to learning from the experts and discovering some new favorite games to play. And probably new ways to spend my money.
