12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Nice... I'm in?!

Yeah, let me clarify. My modded did a cap kit, burned the CDRs and tested them all (with an original power supply) and mailed everything to me.

I guess what I'm asking is, what are the chances something happened in shipping to cause this, versus the power supply not working right.

I mean, do these types of problems come from a weak/Chinese knock off power supply? Slow boot times, garbled graphics? Or are we talking something might have happened in shipping, OR I guess the modded could be lying to me.

OK, so I got a Duo from eBay and had a guy who goes by Monitor Burn on many forums do a full cap kit and RGB mod. Now the Duo power supply was cut, and never repaired as well as something being broken inside it. Since a replacement supply is so expensive, I bought this $10 one on eBay. I made sure the voltage, wattage, and amps were correct as well as the plug size and polarity.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/9V-2A-AC-DC-Power-Supply-Replacement-Adapter-with-3-0mm-x-6-3mm-Tip-Center-/361490633905?hash=item542a8554b1:g:DC4AAOSwjXRXaHJJ

The problem I'm having is although my Turbo Everdrive games work in the Duo, the CD bios does not, and with no TED in the Duo, CDRs are hit and miss. Many take forever to actually boot into a game, and when they do the graphics are garbled and other times the music doesn't play.

Monitor Burn says everything was tested and working 100% with his power supply when he mailed it so he thinks it might be my aftermarket one. Before I spend a ton of money trying to find an original, or trying to repair the one I have, any idea guys?

Also, note I'm testing with the stock composite cable, as I don't have an RGB set up yet.

If need be, I can open the system up and take pictures of the inside.

Hi there!

I am not sure but I think that the main issue is that everyone is trying to get RGB signal out of their GT and this is why (I suppose) high quality screens are hard to find.

It is quite simple, on the other hand, to find standard lcd tv that accept a component input.

Clearly the quality is poorer but the comparision with the original screen is...

NO MATCH :)

I am also a maniac so I made sure that my mod is fully reversible in case one day I go crazy and decide to go back.
From what I see this is NEVER going to happen :)

I bought mine here: www.good-display.com

Be sure to ask for th 5v version!
Doris should already know about this (if she's still working there) because other users bought it.

Quite costy (50 bucks) including the shipping price.
Totally worth it, if you ask me.

Keep in mind you'll also need the Pc Engine to Composite adapter but I think that Vimtoman sold all of them.
Ask him :)
Awesome, thank you for the reply! Can you post a comparison video of the new screen? $50 is expensive, but I'd like to see if it's worth it!

If you actually have a TG16, just a small bit of warning, I'm having problems getting my TED to work with it. I've posted here about it as well as on the Everdrive forums, so have a read:

It does work great on my Turbo Express and I'll soon know if it works on my Duo when it comes in.

Quote from: ltpitt on 02/26/2017, 07:26 PMHi all!

I finally had enough courage to mod my Pc Engine GT and get a new screen.

Thanks to FANTASTIC board made by Vimtoman now I have not only a shiny new screen but also a super cool composite video output.

Do you guy have any suggestion about how to put a connector for Composite?

Sure I could dremel the case but I'd prefer a more subtle and delicate mod that doesn't involve destroying my case and keep the Pc Engine as original as possible.
I can't help with your question, but can you post about where you got a screen? Every modded I've asked says there haven't been useable screens in years so they won't mod my Turbo Express.

Man, I'll have to disagree. I think it looks awesome and it just moved to my must buy list...
#8
Sadly I can't help man, but since you say you tried real games, maybe a new cap kit is in order or a different power supply first? If batteries result in the problem, have you tried an ac kit? I found one on Amazon that is only $10 that works great if you need the link.

Quote from: Keith Courage on 02/12/2017, 07:10 AMI can't think of what would need to be done to the system in order to get the everdrive to work correctly. I've only come across some region modded systems that have had issues with an everdrive.

Maybe try to find someone willing to trade for the older V1 everdrive? They load differently and you may find that that type would work without any issues. The only downfall is the older V1 can't be used as a super system CD card. A regular 1.0, 2.0, 2.1 CD card would work with it though since they don't have any on chip memory.

Still wondering if there is something with with your particular everdrive. Have you been able to test it on another system? This would at least rule out if the system or the everdrive is at fault.
Keith, I started a thread in the TED forum, it looks like another guy who got 3 TEDs in the same batch as me has the same problem. I'll be getting a Duo in a week or so, so I'll test and post results. I hate to have to ship the TED back, but if it works on everything but the TG16, I might do so. I'm also kicking around the idea of tracking down an actual damn game, but they are hard to locate on the island...

Dude, just wanted to post and say this is amazing, great job and thanks for sharing!

OK, so the next update is I got a multi out power adapter. It does 9V and 12V with up to 3amps. At 9V same exact result with the TGCD, at 12V same result but seconds faster.

OK, I'm going to guess that something is wrong with the system at this point because the TE seems to work with the TED. Anyone have any ideas/thoughts?

Also, anyone recommend a US person who you trust enough to do the likely needed repair work that I'm looking at?

Quote from: Lost Monkey on 02/08/2017, 12:44 PMI think the problem is your TED. I have an earlier revision which needs an update and it works only in an original TG16 hooked up via RF.  Even then it will fail after about 20 minutes.  If I connect any composite A/V or put it on a Turbo CD dock, it will not even start....
Thanks for the tip. Any reason why you would think that though? I have a brand new TED, version 2.5. That being said, what did you do? Return for another TED? Did they confirm your TED was bad upon return?
#13
OK, just to keep the thread in the loop (me and the 3 people who look at this one!), I've bought an aftermarket power adapter to test first. Should be here in about 1-3 weeks so I'll report back when I get it. I'm also trying to buy some real games, so I can post results when I get them too.

In the meantime, if anyone has an idea for something for me to try, please post!
#14
Damn that's a great price! Where were you last week!?? GLWS.
#15
OK, here is my situation.

I have a Turbo Ever Drive (TED) 2.5, a Turbografx16 (TG16), a Turbografx16 CD ROM (TGCD) attachment, and a Turbo Express (TE). I don't have any Hu Cards, but I have CDRs of TGCD games.

The TED works great in my TE no problems.
The TED works for about 10-30 min in the TG16 before locking up needing a hard reset.
The TED works for about 1-3 min in the TGCD before locking up and needing a hard reset in either Hu Card or CD ROM games.
The TGCD works fine with no problems with an authentic CD System card (2.0), but sadly I can only test 1-2 games as the rest of my CDRs are CD System 3.0 games.
I don't have any Hu Cards to test at all.

All that being said, any ideas? I know the TED draws more power, so I'm wondering if my CD Dock power supply is not giving enough power, also maybe explaining why the regular TG16 lasts longer before locking up (it has a different power supply). Or do you guys think there is something wrong with the capacitors? I know the Duo has capacitor issues, but I'm told the regular TG16 and TGCD never did. Thoughts?

It's in stock as of the time of this post.
Thank you. I may order it to eliminate one possibility. See my next post.

Can someone recommend an aftermarket CD Dock power supply that works 100% with the TED? I've asked around and most seem to think the caps in a CD Dock are not an issue, so it might be the power supply is weak and the extra draw from a TED just craps it out. I don't own any original games to test with either!

Argh! I'll get this damn thing to work!!!

Quote from: Eddiesamma on 01/21/2017, 11:05 PMAre you using the official power brick for the dock ?
Yes all original power adapters. The big one for the dock, the smaller for when the TG16 is standalone.

Do you think it's not getting enough juice?

I agree about the Upergrafx, also it doesn't have and HDMI port, it needs an adapter and of course it wouldn't work with a Duo. Still, I'd like to know what it has inside, and if it really should cost that much.

Quote from: crazydean on 12/30/2016, 05:50 PMYou are crazy to expect someone to come up with HDMI for the PCE. You are better off RGB modding and get a frameister or ossc.
Why do you think that? The guy doing the HDMI for Dreamcast is the one who said he was close. Didn't his DC mod come out?

Thank you everyone. I still have not received the Everdrive. He said he's mailing it today so should be here in about five days I just got a memory card and I'm going to work on cleaning up the turbo today to run it when I gets here. I'm considering buying a Duo from a member here, but will likely hold off a little until I get some gaming under my belt. I know this is probably sacrilege for many here but I'm hoping for an HDMI mod for the duo to come out. Back on the mainland I do have a CRT that I can use but here in Hawaii I'm restricted to just one LCD TV and I would like to get HDMI quality out of one of my systems. Something like the Hi DEF NES would be perfect for the TurboGrafx, do you guys think I'm crazy?
#24
Nice, do you have the originals or just the shots of them?

Hi guys (and maybe gals), I'm new here and wanted to say hi. I'm in Hawaii, but originally from the East Coast. The TurboGrafx 16 was the first system I purchased for myself in 1989, and years later I sold it, and still regret it to this day! This Christmas I told my g/f that I wanted a Turboeverdrive and I went out and hunted myself down a TG16 with CDROM attachment. All cables and a turbo tap with 1 extra controller for $290 shipped. Probably overpaid, as the CDROM does not work, but I ordered a gear off eBay and I'm going to start the repairs there.

Just wanted to chime in and say hi, and Happy Holidays everyone.
