Chew Man Fu, Aero Blasters and Bomberman are all the justification anyone needs for the multitap... I can't count the number of hours I've burned on those games with my friends and kids...

Quote from: BlueBMW on 01/23/2011, 09:00 AMRed Ghost, chop5, Duo-R, and myself (and maybe blueraven too) all do repair type work.  :P  I just did a full cap swap on a turbo express not but a few days ago.  I'm out of stock of 4.7uf 50v capacitors, but I should be getting more in soon.
Wow! That's wonderful... I'll send you a PM :)  Thanks...

Hey guys,

My TurboExpress has just lost video   - I had a local guy replace a couple of the sound capacitors a few years back, but now I'm looking for someone to give it a complete overhaul. Anyone here have any recommendations on who can do this kind of work well? I love this little machine...

I'm located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada but have the original box and packaging and can ship it anywhere.

thanks

Quote from: guest on 01/18/2008, 02:43 PMWhat about the region detection problem? Will a US unit set to US settings (or unmodified) be triggering the region lockout system? Or is that only encoded at a software level?
I thought the region lock out was entirely physical - two pins switch or something - which is why I can play Japanese PCE ROMs on my TurboExpress using my PCE Flash Card...

My card plays perfectly in both my TG16 and my TurboExpress (and thank God for that!)... I've had one or two hangs during writes, and I've had problems with a couple ROMs, but eventually managed to find working copies in both cases. Over all, however, I'm extremely pleased with mine - I only wish I'd sprung for the 128Mb model...

I have to admit that GoT is probably my favourite shooter evah!  The sound track is awesome, and the graphic  design and game play are as good as anything out there, imho... I also appreciate the fact that it's manageable, which I can't say of some of the more recent bullet hell shooters out there...  #-o

I can't believe that no one's mentioned Devil's Crush or Gate of Thunder yet! Those top my list of TurboDuo must haves:

Devil's Crush
Gate of Thunder (CD)
Air Zonk
Splatterhouse
Ninja Spirit
Bonk's Revenge
Chew Man Few
Y's Books I & II (CD)
Vasteel (CD)
Military Madness
Blazing Lazers

There are others, of course, but these are the ones you need! ;)

Well, I think that the NEO Flash Cart does reduce the battery life of the TurboExpress a little, but not by more than about 10% - that's acceptable to me because I use 2500mAh NiMH rechargeables in my TE, but if you're on Alkalines, it's not going to make life any easier... When the card fails and you can no longer play on it, you can pop in a regular HuCard and get about 20-25 minutes of play time out of them, but you have to have your brightness cranked and tilt the system for best view angle, so you know the batteries are on their last legs by that point...  :)

*Edited Nov. 12 with more accurate numbers based on further experience with the card.

Quote from: Keranu on 11/04/2007, 02:58 AMCongrats on the card, I really need to get one too!

Quote from: jimid2 on 11/03/2007, 09:19 AM...and I'll finally be able to play Cotton on my TurboExpress!! ;)
Cotton (a CD game) on a Turbo Express? Is there something I don't know about?  :?

But that does remind me of how awesome it would be to get a flashcard so I can use it on my Turbo Express!
oops! I did mean Magical Chase...  ...and Salamander ...and the uncensored versions of Splatterhouse and Devil's Crash ...and Bonk 3 ...and Rabio Lupus ...and Parodius Da!... hehehe... the list really goes on and one... :D

I received the card today, and I'm very impressed... A couple of the ROMs I've thrown on it haven't run, but in every case an alternative has worked, so I'm sure it's my ROMs and not the flash card. I'm running it in my TurboExpress and I'll watch to see if battery life seems significantly lower, but so far so good. FWIW, the software was easy to set up and run in WinXP.sp2, and the hardware itself seems very well made - very professional. I'm quite pleased. :)

Quote from: turbo D on 11/03/2007, 09:58 AMCongratulations Jimid2! I have that same flash cart, it kicks ass. It does allow you to play japanese games on a us system too. You can play any hucard game.
I can't wait to try it out - there are many games I've never had the chance to play that I want to try, and this seems the simplest way to do that.

Quote from: schnuth on 11/03/2007, 04:30 PMI hope it works for you.  I got mine last week and I have only got one ROM to play on it.  I'm attempting to exchange it for another.   ](*,)  Very frustrating to say the least.
I'm sorry to hear about your problems schnuth... I generally have good luck with handling this kind of technology - I've never had a problem I couldn't eventually solve with Flash Carts, though I know they can be particular about the ROMs you copy to them. This cart has generally favourable reviews and I don't anticipate any significant difficulties getting it up and running, but keep your fingers crossed for me, just in case!

I got an email from Gamersection.ca on Thursday that they finally received a shipment of NEO Flash Carts for the PCE/TG-16... (NEO Flash Cart page @ gamersection.ca) I've been waiting for the new shipment of these things since April, so I'm pretty excited that it's finally here! I know it's not collecting, but at least I can now play the ROMs on original hardware - and I'll finally be able to play Cotton on my TurboExpress!! ;)  And apparently (though I can't confirm because I haven't got mine yet) it will let me play Japanese games on my American hardware by doing the pin-switch-thing in software on the cart itself, so that will be a nice plus! Man I can't wait!

Quote from: thumpin_termis on 07/15/2007, 02:41 AMStay away from UPS when shipping to Canada (well, this is a bigger deal for those getting the shipment rather than sending the item).

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=2392.msg26018#msg26018
FYI, the cost in this story isn't "taxes and duty" - that's only 15% of the sale total - it's UPS's stupid "brokerage fees". UPS are pricks, and they nickle and dime you to death if they can. Their "brokerage fee" is on a sliding scale and gets progressively more stupid as the declared value of the goods goes up, for no reason other than they figure they can get away with it. I've payed $50 in "brokerage fees" for guitars shipped UPS from the States before... The real bitch is that there's nothing to "broker", since the shipper fills out all the damned Customs paperwork when they send the parcel off, so basically UPS are charging for dropping a paper someone else filled out in a file folder some where, and they're charging you through the nose for it. Brokers fees with USPS/Canada Post are $5, btw... you're still responsible for the applicable taxes, thought...

Buy/Sell/Trade / Re: Is this a joke?

That seller "game_squad" overprices EVERYTHING... I've kind of idly been watching some of his auctions for a while out of a kind of sick fascination I blame on curiosity, and I don't think I've seen him sell anything yet...
#14
You know, I really liked Silent Debuggers too, and I always felt that the Jaguar Alien Vs. Predator was kind of a spiritual successor to it, at least when playing as a Marine - it had a lot of the same feel, that sense of foreboding, of not wanting to open the door...
#15
hey Nödtveidt - sorry, you didn't PM me and I haven't been checking the thread... I don't have any real idea what Splatterhouse loose is worth, but I suspect I'm probably better off keeping it for trade bait right now... I'll let you know if I decide to dump it....
#16
I voted PS1. I could have gone either SNES or PSX really - I've been playing so many old PlayStation RPGs on my DarK_AleX firmware enabled PSP lately, and run through a couple SNES RPGs on my GP2X and DS... Anyway, Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX are absolute favorites of mine, and so the PlayStation's my choice...
#17
When I had my original Duo and the collection of games I'd acquired for it, the split was about 60/40 in favour of the Turbo games, thanks to a Kisaedi (sp?) adapter I had for it... Now-a-days, only being a couple months back into the swing of things, I'm at 100% Turbo - no Japanese stuff at all yet, though I plan to rectify that situation shortly  :D
#18
Quote from: guyjin on 06/28/2007, 09:13 AMI would put CF2 up against anything on the SNES.

Ya, I'll do that... I won an original Gameboy with Tetris for $3.50 the other day - I gave the guy a 10 spot and picked the game up to save him the bother of shipping it...

I've got Blazing Lazers and Bomberman coming (thanks TD!!), and I bought a TG16 controller extension cable for too much, but I've also got some cool non-TG16 stuff on the way...

- NeoGeo Color Pocket with Samouri Showdown and Metal Slug I & II - at least I think it was Samouri Showdown... Maybe it's Last Blade... anyway, this is coming from Japan - it was very reasonably priced, but it's coming very slowly ;)

- BRAND NEW (not MINT, but NEW, truly NEW, NEVER TOUCHED BY HUMAN HANDS NEW) first edition Atari Lynx in the large grey box combo pack (with AC Adapter, Comlynx cable and California Games)... I've picked up a lot of Lynx stuff on Ebay lately, but the thing I wanted most was a real, Made In Japan, first edition Lynx I - finding a brand new one was awesome... It was also a little expensive...
#21
What really PO's me about Ebay is when some seller tries to stick it to me with absurd shipping charges. Case in point: I won an auction for a Turbo Extension Cable for $9.99 a couple days ago, but when I get the bill from the seller, he's tacked on $16.84 shipping! I live in Canada, not the South Pole! There's no way in Hell that it costs anything even remotely like that to ship a bit of wire to me... I can drive to Rochester NY in an hour, and it probably costs $2.50 to ship it there...

Of course, it's not entirely the sellers who are at fault right now (despite an apparent lack of common sense) - the USPS on-line estimate system is generating INSANE estimates for shipping costs to Canada. This is really whacked, because we're the United States' largest trading partner... Why the United States Postal Service thinks it's appropriate to quote $17US in shipping for a package that is the size of a toothpaste box and weighs all of 6oz. is a mystery to me...

Quote from: nat on 06/25/2007, 07:29 PMThere wasn't a mention of TurboExpress units to be found on their website when I placed my order with them a week ago (and I looked).
Ditto... Just before I ordered a "dead sound" one and fixed it myself, I checked TZD and they had nothing on the site... Kind of disappointing because I would have gladly bought one with all capicitors replaced from them; I only got two of mine replaced before giving up in shakey fear, so I do have sound, but it's not terribly loud - good enough for at home, but I'd never hear it on the bus, for example...

In truth, if I knew these ones came with the replaced capacitors, I'd be sorely tempted to buy one now anyway and squirrel it away for posterity...

Quote from: kenomac78 on 06/25/2007, 09:20 AMi wonder if we would just send emails to some of thee people begging that we are simply collectors who want to collect and just leave this aucion alone for once. would that even work?
Who knows... Probably not - I suspect that a lot of these are the buyer ID for some of the big Ebay sellers....

I think that patience helps - and then there's always the strategy of buying bunches of games with HARDWARE that someone's moving, then selling off the rest. If you can pick up a TG16 with 9 games including Air Zonk for $75 - $100, then selling off the system and individual games will net you Zonk + $$$... but that's a lot of work...

Quote from: guest on 06/22/2007, 09:56 PMJimid, just to double check, you know that thumpin_termis was referring to a Duo-R or a Duo-RX, right?  (There is no R/X.)
They're the same thing and people swear by both of them.  The only difference between them is the logo and the RX came with a highly coveted, 6-button controller.
Thanks vestcunt - ya, I was just stealin' thumpin's shorthand; I know the R and RX are two different packages of the same basic hardware (well, I know now ;) )  What I meant is that I'll look for an R or an RX.
#25
Thanks Guys! a Duo R/X it is... Now, to find one at a fair price with reasonable shipping...  #-o

Okay, I've got the bug - now that I've had a taste with my new TurboExpress and TG16, I'm starting to think I want to play Gate of Thunder and Y's again, so I'm thinking about buying a DUO. Since I already own a TurboGrafx, I figure a PC Engine Duo is the way to go to ensure I can play any HuCard I want, especially since there's no region protection on the CD-ROMs, but I'm wondering which model PCE Duo I should buy... Is there any real substantial differenct between them in terms of quality or reliability? Does the original Duo play all the same games as the Duo R or RX? And just what are the differences, if any, between the Duo R and Duo RX? Also, if I want to get just ONE card for maximum compatibility with all games, is the Arcade Card the way to go?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice!  :D
#27
Well I received everything and I'm amazed - I don't think that this TG16's ever been used, even though it has no box... The games are in very good condition, but not new - they're clean and complete for the most part but there were few sleeves and a couple of the HuCard clips were broken in the cases. Still, all the cards themselves are very clean with no wear or dirt on the connection pins... The system itself, however, is simply impeccable, with the plastic still on the top of the controller and over the "TurboGrafx 16" logo that's on the back port cover! The joystick port is still nice and tight too...

...but I'd forgotten how freakin' short the controller leads are on the TG16! Oh well, I guess I'm in search of some extensions. I can't believe anyone ever sat this close to their TV to play video games...

I spent about 2 hours playing Splatterhouse and Devil's Crush last night - great games on a great system. My wife walked by and snickered a couple times and watched me playing Splatterhouse long enough to make a passing comment about simple games for simple boys, then went back to Pokemon Pearl on her DSLite and generally let me be...

All-in-all, I'm ecstatic with the purchase - it's great to have this hardware in my hands again!! Now to start shopping for a Duo...

Quote from: guest on 06/20/2007, 11:10 AMAs for Canada's big showing in a 'Best Places to Live' list, big surprise - it's called same sex marriages and medicinal marijuana.
Actually, I think it has more to do with a strong economy, excellent public schools and social services (including socialized medicine), and a minimal crime rate (with very, very little violent crime - our gun crime rate per capita is something like 1% of the US gun crime rate, and we have nearly as many firearms per capita in this country). Medicinal marijuana is not a license you want to qualify for - you have to be pretty damned ill to get it. Same sex marriages are just a by-product of a well-educated liberal democracy.

Quote from: offsidewing on 06/20/2007, 09:54 AMWeird that I got a Canadian release, but seeing how the Canadian Gov't still recognizes the Queen of England as the head of it's gov't, I understand why.
Um, actually, I don't think you do understand. Canada is a Commonwealth Realm. Elizabeth II is not only the Queen of England, she is the Queen of Canada as well, and thus she is our Head of State and the repository of Executive Power. Because she does not reside in Canada, she appoints a Governor-General to represent her and act in her stead (currently Michaëlle Jean). The person she selects for this position is actually chosen by our Prime Minister elect, who "advises" Her Majesty on the selection. The truth is Her Majesty seldom meddles in domestic affairs, though the Governor-General can and will dissolve Parliament should a minority Government fail to win a vote of non-confidence (this has happened in my lifetime).

Quote from: offsidewing on 06/19/2007, 08:07 PMAs noted, I'm not into this for the bling, but are Canadian boxes/packaging rare or anything??
Not up here in Canada...  Strangely enough, I recently bought a new, sealed-in-box copy of Fu Man Chew from a shop in the UK, and it came in the US packaging. I was kind of hoping for the European packaging, just to check it out...

Aside: there is a big difference between Canada and Mexico... Mexico's a developing country. Canada is one of the - if not THE - best country in the world to live in.

FYI, ('cause the US media would never report this) Mercer Consulting just published their annual list of the Fifty Best Cities In The World To Live In.  Canada's five largest cities all place in the top 25. The United States doesn't have any cities listed in the top 25. Mercer, the consulting business of Marsh & McLennan Companies, employs more than 15,000 individuals in 40 countries around the world. Their analysis is based on an evaluation of 39 quality-of-living criteria for each city including political, social, economic and environmental factors, personal safety and health, education, transport and other public services.

The Mercer report echoes the findings of London-based EIU (Economist Intelligence Unit) that in a recent publication stated "With low crime, little threat from instability or terrorism and a highly developed infrastructure, Canada has the most liveable destinations in the world."

Of course, Americans are frequently stunned to discover that pretty much everyone else in the world thinks Canada is a better country to live in than the United States, but that's because we generally work really hard to keep it secret from those living south of our border... We've seen the trouble they have with Mexico, and we don't want to have to build a 8900 km barb-wire fence...

Quote from: offsidewing on 06/19/2007, 08:07 PMPS.  When there is a Thunderstorm in Canada, do canadian count the approaching storm as "one Mississauga, two Mississauga?

I'm late to the conversation but want to add my 2-bits worth anyway... I agree with a lot that's been said in the thread so far. Nostalgia is certainly a part of it for me, especially with my favorite old-school systems - the Lynx and TurboGrafx - neither of which has a huge library to draw from (yes, I know the PC Engine has about one bazillion games available, but I only have US hardware). Besides that, I simply have a limited amount of time and money for games, and retro gaming offers the best bang for the buck. We own all the last-gen consoles (XBox, PS2, GameCube and Dreamcast x 2) in our house, and there are plenty of games for these systems I haven't got around to playing yet, despite the fact that I own them (God of War, Shadow of Colosus, Final Fantasy XII, Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater, Killer 7, Resident Evil 4, Trigger Heart Excelsior, etc.) - I picked most of these games up cheap, used, because I know I'll like them and I know I want to play them, but I hardly get in any console game time in the summer, so they'll have to wait until September before I start looking at them... That's okay though, because with the exception of recently published DC shmups, I pretty much refuse to pay more than $20 for a game, and I usually get them for less than that (pawnshops mostly - drifting around the streets on my lunch hour).

I've played Gears of War and Advanced Warfighter and Guitar Hero II on a friend's XBox360, and they're certainly fun, but they're not any more fun than the stuff I have in front of me to play now, and they'll still be fun when I finally get around to playing them at $20 a pop on a $200 XBox360 three or four years from now... We have many friends who own a Wii, and playing Wario or Wii Sports is a kick when we visit them, but it doesn't feel like the kind of thing I'd spend lots of time doing at home, so what's the rush?

Of course, with our constantly-in-a-state-of-barely-controlled-chaos schedules (we've two teenagers in the house, after all) portable gaming makes the most sense, and everyone in the family has a DSLite, and these systems see a lot of use. There are also two PSPs in the household, and my GP2X is my retro portable, so the vast majority of our gaming is done on handhelds, which tend to have a decidedly retro feel in most games anyway. Maybe our tastes just gravitate to that kind of gaming (platformers, shmups, 2D fighters, classic JRPGs etc.)... Or maybe I'll just be damned before I drop $600 on a video game console ;)

Quote from: thumpin_termis on 06/18/2007, 12:25 PMI wouldn't mind Raiden, Bloody Wolf, or Devil's Crush -- I'm not sure if you can play Japanese cards and/or CD games, but take a look at what I have up for grabs here, and see if you like anything.
Thanks thumpin', but I've only got US hardware, and Raiden and Devil's Crush are gone to turbo D... Good luck with your sale though.

No takers yet? None at all?? No one wants to trade R-Type for Raiden? Or give up Aero Blasters for Devil's Crush? Come on guys, I'll pony up Bloody Wolf, Bonk's Adventure and Splatterhouse for a copy of New Adventure Island!! :)

I'll accept $$ offers too... Please don't make me sell these on Ebay! the horror... the horror...

I'm more a fan of JRPGs than these sprawling D&D things (even though I'll admit that I played with hex dice in my youth, but then, there were no computers back then ;) )... Anyway, I finished Order of the Griffon back in the early '90s, but haven't played M&M3. What I remember about OotG (and a lot of those old "Gold Box" D&D games on my computer, for that matter) is having a stack of graph paper beside me so I could map the dungeons, because there's no way of really knowing where you are otherwise in a first person environment where every hallway looks exactly the same as the preceding one... and I used to think that was fun?!?

Quote from: Kitsunexus on 06/12/2007, 05:57 PMAhh, so if you have a GP2X why would you want a PSP version? The controls are much better on the GP2X and the PSP emulation wouldn't be terribly different.
As much as I love it, I'd never suggest that the GP2X gimp stick was "better" than the PSP's broken D-pad or analog nub... Lets face it, they all suck...

I have been eyeing evildragon's D-pad mod though - if they work up some more kits, I might go for that...

Glad to see an appreciation for classic JRPGs here... I've played and completed Final Fantasy III (DS), Final Fantasy VII (PSP), Final Fantasy VI (DS) and Final Fantasy VIII (PSP) since March, but I'm feeling I need a little bit of a break now... As a father of 2 teenagers I don't have a lot of "at home" gaming time, so I have to play my RPGs during the commute to and from work and whenever I can steal a few minutes here and there - that's why I'm on my PSP and DS so much... anyway, I just finished off FFVIII last Thursday, and I'm still in the glow   That's a great game, once you get past the second disc... I'll probably load FFIX on the PSP this weekend or next, but I don't know that I'll start into it seriously for a while - I'm enjoying my Turbo Express too much lately and don't want to give up game time to another RPG at the moment...

Well, I (well, a more technically adept friend of mine, actually) managed to get two of the caps replaced in my "headphones only" TE before giving up in nervous exhaustion - but it was enough! I've got sound!! Not loud enough to be heard on a bus, but plenty loud for playing on the couch in my home, even with the stereo on in the background.

It's thanks to this post that I've got this far, and I wanted to say so! Mucho graçias!   :D

These games are pretty common, I know. They're duplicates that I've acquired during my recent run of hardware purchases. Rather than throw them back on Ebay right away I thought I might try to trade some for other games that I'm looking for. Note that I'm not a collector, and am generally unwilling to pay a premium for a "MINT IN BOX!!!!" copy of something - I just wanna play the damned thing... :) Where there are differences in value, I'm willing to trade multiples for one or add $$...

Here are the games I have to trade:

BONK'S ADVENTURE (w/ case & manual, but plastic "arm" to hold hucard in case broken)
BLOODY WOLF (w/ case & manual, but plastic "arm" to hold hucard in case broken)
SPLATTERHOUSE  (w/ case & manual)
SPLATTERHOUSE (HuCard only, some surface scratches, works fine)
RAIDEN (w/ case & manual)
DEVIL'S CRUSH (w/ case & manual)
*edit: Raiden and Devil's Crush are spoken for - Thanks Dave!

Here are the games I'm looking for:

R-Type
Aero Blasters
Legendary Axe II
Galaga 90
Blazing Lazers
Bomberman
Parasol Stars
New Adventure Island
Air Zonk
Legend of the Hero Tomma
oh, and Keith Courage in the Alpha Zones (feel free to throw this one in to sweeten your trade ;) )

All the above games for trade are in my possession and have been tested. As I said before, I know these are common games, and most of you probably have them all already, so if no one expresses an interest I'll just throw 'em back up on Ebay.

Oh, my Ebay userid is jimeina if you want to look at my feedback there. I've been trading stuff over the 'net for years, including a number of high end guitars, and have never had any problems. I live in Ottawa, Ontario.

Thanks for looking!  :D

The seller contacted me about 30 minutes after I'd paid yesterday, thanking me and stating that he'll ship on Wednesday... His feedback's good, so I'm optimistic, but we'll see...  [-o<

Having a Turbo Express again got me thinking it might be nice to buy a TG16 so I could play on the Tele when I get the chance (rarely, but still...) so I started watching some Ebay auctions and won this one tonight:

TG16 and games on Ebay

Granted, I've already got a few of the games, but once I've received everything I'll try and put Splatterhouse, Bonk's Adventure, Bloody Wolf, Devil's Crush and Raiden up for trade here and see if I can't get anything I still need in their place... I'm particularly happy about getting Military Madness and Ninja Spirit in this package, as they're two of my "must have" games...  Still, I'm not entirely sure about pricing yet, though I've watched a few Ebay auctions of late, but I feel like I got a pretty good deal here.  :)

Quote from: guest on 06/08/2007, 07:25 AMThe question now is, will we ever see another hardcopy retro set ever again?
You know, that's a damned good question... I gotta admit it never occurred to me before what the success of the VC could mean for the retro collections market - kinda gives me a shiver. I like the hardcopy collections for lots of reasons; partly because I'm old school and like to actually have a physical thing I can hold in my hands in exchange for my hard-earned cash, and partly because publishers tend to drop their collections across a multitude of consoles, and since I'm almost exclusively a handheld gamer, that's good for me. Even though I've owned a GP2X for about a year now, I still invest in all the collections that come out for the PSP and DS, because I'm acquisitive and I want to encourage the release of more of them, and I like the special features (the Sega Genesis and the Activision Hits Remixed Collections on the PSP are great examples of how to do retro right!)... It'd be a shame if the VC killed off collections entirely, imho...

Quote from: turbo D on 06/09/2007, 08:08 PMNintendo's next console will rip off what ever is popular in design. Right now all there designs resemble something that apple would make. When i saw the ds lite, I thought it was the bastard child of the macbook and the ipod
Absolutely! That's one of the reasons I love it! It fits right in with my tech style...  8)

I like it's just a shame it didn't get release again on dvd in the u.s  ](*,)
Ya, I'm glad I've still got my VHS copy...

It's funny, I've never really thought about it and drawn a direct line before, but there's every likelyhood that my Turbo Duo was largely responsible for my interest in Anime as well... I know that the very first Anime tape I ever bought (Bubblegum Crisis ep. 5, which I bought sight unseen for $50!!  ) I chose from a wall of Anime's because I owned the PC Engine game (though I couldn't figure out how to play it very well - too much Japanese) and the blurb on the back of the Animeigo box said something about vampires (or implied it)... After that, I was hooked, and Akira, M66 and Ghost in the Shell, PatLabor, Armitage the Third and many others soon followed...

Quote from: GUTS on 06/10/2007, 02:11 AMIf you don't like Cowboy Bebop, then you shouldn't be watching anime in the first place since you obviously have no taste.  That's like saying Casablanca or The Godfather are shit movies.
ditto...

One of the interesting things that I've enjoyed in my later adulthood is sharing the Anime series that I discovered before my kids were born or when they were very young with them now that they're in their teens... Neither one of them has inherited the "obsessive-compulsive" gene that makes them a "fan" of anything in particular - they have broad interests and are pretty well-rounded, which is the antithesis of Otaku - so it's fascinating to discover which series they really like and which ones they let slide... Cowboy Beebop, Trigun and Bubblegum Crisis 2040 are three of their prefered series to date, but we never finished Neon Genesis Evangelion or The Wanderers (El Hazard) TV series (though they liked the OVAs). I'm curious to see how they take to Fushigi Yugi or Outlaw Star or Saber Marionette J next...

Quote from: grahf on 06/10/2007, 10:45 AMIm not positive of the resolution, but its a tiny bit better than the original. Looks a TON clearer though, text is all readable.
Sounds very nice... That's a mod I can't wait to see :)

Quote from: grahf on 06/01/2007, 10:36 AMSNKNostalgia, im currently working on putting a modern LCD in one of my GTs. Its a casio TV screen which I hacked to accept RGB.
This sounds absolutely brilliant! Wouldn't it be great if we could find a source of 3.5" or 4" 4:3 LCDs that run off RGB? Having a TE with a large screen has always been up there on my wish list (the LT's a little too heavy and bulky to count)....

So grahf, does the LCD run at the same resolution as the TE's screen or are you upping the resolution to be closer to the 256x240 native?

hehehe... love it!  though I have to admit, I'm more likely to be found with my GB Micro on the bus than my TurboExpress... truth is, I coddle my TE - bloody thing's never been out of the house and I've had it a month!

Quote from: guest on 06/08/2007, 05:36 PMYour experience with ME is not normal.  My super powerful 1.47Ghz Athlon with 768MB and XP can run the latest version without slowing to a crawl.  ME's start ups and shut downs take no more than a few seconds for me.  Just how long are yours taking?  I'll bet that nod's correct and the video drivers are the culprit.
Ditto... I use ME on a couple systems around the house, but my beater old Athalon 2500+ with half a gig of RAM runs it fine on XPPROsp2 - no abnormal delays loading or closing (we're talking 2-3 seconds for either here) and all the ROMs I run in it have been fine, no slow down...

Quote from: nat on 06/08/2007, 08:09 PMYeah, that's really the way I feel, too. It was definitely a last-ditch effort.
Last ditch effort or not, it worked on me... I bought my Duo and then had to sell my TG16/TurboCD combo to help pay for it, but I'd seen a demo of Gate of Thunder in the CompuCenter where I bought it, and I just had to have it...

well, this is kinda, almost, sorta VC related... I mean, if Hudson are pumping out games for the VC, why haven't they gone on to support the PSP as well? I'm a big PSP fan - just finishing Final Fantasy VIII up on mine at the moment, in fact - and I've been really happy with a number of the retro compilations that have been released for the system to date. The Genesis and Activision collections especially get a lot of play time, though the Gradius, Power Stone and Metal Slug collections are also in constant rotation... Now, I can understand why we haven't seen any SNES collections released on the PSP yet  but why wouldn't Hudson jump on the chance to get a bunch of their old games out on a UMD cart for us? Especially since they've clearly got some people working on emulated versions for the VC, anyway? You'd think the licensing issues would be virtually non-existent for them - so why no TG16 Collection for the PSP? Maybe we should start a petition or something
