Quote from: wilykat on 08/13/2012, 10:42 PMIt's possible the cable has gone bad (nroken connection inside the plug) or the socket has gone bad.
Actually, BlueBMW suggested the same thing. I had already tried the cable in my Neo Geo CDZ to rule that out. But when Blue made that suggestion, I started tinkering more. I tried my Master System A/V cable in the Duo, and it worked perfectly! Amazing!

So, the cable and Duo both seem to work, they just don't work together, for some weird reason. I'll chalk it up to a fluke. So now it seems like all I need is a new cable. Thankfully!

Falcon is not just bad, it's unplayable. What a turd.

Thanks! I sent them all messages.

If anyone knows of someone else I should check with, or if someone reading this wants to give it a shot, feel free to reply/PM.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Need TurboDuo A/V repair
08/13/2012, 08:25 PM
Can anyone here refer someone that can do reliable TurboDuo repair? For years, I've had to wiggle the A/V connector to get a picture from my Duo. Tonight, it failed completely and stopped giving any picture. It still powers on and spins the disc, I just get no picture. I tried reflowing the solder on the A/V port, but no luck. I think it just needs to be replaced.

Help!

Blue, are all the parts for sale, or are you keeping some of the items for yourself? I'm in Madison, so I could do a local pick up (since it looks like you're nearby, too). If that Duo is as minty as it looks, I'd love it. Or at the very least, I could use a copy of Ys I&II.

I'll be there tomorrow, can't wait! I'll have a Digital Press badge with my username on it, so keep an eye out.

And JoshTurboTrollX-16... I believe it was you that sold me a copy of Rondo two MGCs ago. You're not getting it back. :)

Got my games today, thanks hoobs!
#8
Hoobs, did you ever get a PM from me? I thought I sent one a few days ago, but I never heard back and I don't see it in my outbox, so maybe it didn't go through.

I'm interested in Alien Crush, Silent Debuggers, and Fantasy Zone.

That controller is an abomination. :(

God, these threads are creepy.

Actually, that is totally right. The voltage rating on capacitors is simply an indication of how much voltage the capacitor is rated for. As in, it can withstand up to whatever the voltage rating says. If a 47uF/35V cap didn't work in place of a 47uF/10V cap, it was just a fluke (you probably had a bad cap). You could put a 47uF/999999999999V cap in there (if such a thing existed) and it would behave exactly the same as the 10V because the console is still only supplying the same amount of voltage to it.
Huh, weird... Guess it was a fluke, then. It definitely didn't work.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone in this and the various other sound fix/cap replacement threads. Not because it resolved a sound issue in my Duo, but because it helped me solve something completely unrelated. Several months ago, I bought a CD32 off of ebay, but the controller was all wonky. The seller sent me a new one, but the second one started doing the same weird stuff after about an hour of use.

I opened the controllers up to take a look. I saw a capacitor on the board, and remembering what I had read in these threads about bad capacitors from the early 90s, figured it was worth a shot to replace it. After all, I had nothing else to go on, and another controller would probably run me something like $40!

Sure enough, it's good as new! Now I can finally enjoy my CD32 and not have it be a total waste of money. :)

#1, the law hasn't passed. It's something in the design phase.

#2, you might want to wait for a less sensational source before getting all freaked out.

Maybe from the Turbo community a bit, but actually the turn out for the show beat last year's numbers handily. Next year we're moving to a larger facility... :-"

Later.
Yay, can we get a place with a separate room for the speakers instead of having them in the hallway?

Quote from: Keranu on 03/20/2009, 04:20 PMAlright guys, MGC is tomorrow! Are we still all up for the get together at 3pm on Saturday at the Turbo area?
I'm down.
#19
I nearly had a heart-attack today when I realized that not just one, but TWO of my customers at work are doing upgrades the weekend of MGC. Even though it'll be a lot of work, I'm relieved they're both on Sunday. I can still go to MGC on Saturday!
#20
This is now my most anticipated Wii game.

Quote from: Keranu on 03/04/2009, 10:14 PMThere technically is going to be one, but it's just gonna be a set up of a Turbo Duo, Super Grafx, PC-FX, and maybe something else and I think will just sort of be merged with the other systems in the museum area. I think it will be like how it was before 2007.
Excellent, I've never had a chance to try out a PC-FX before.

So we should all meet up at the Turbo area at some point -- maybe play some Bomberman or a little high score competition in one of the shooters.

So is there going to be a TurboFest this year?

This is awesome. I know a certain SNES that's going to get a bath pretty soon...

Quote from: drdre on 02/01/2009, 07:32 PMWell, this store in town has complete Master System games for 79 and 99 cents. In the past few days I've picked up Psycho Fox, Golden Axe Warrior, Fantasy Zone, Spiderman, Choplifter, Wonderboy, Cloudmaster, Dick Tracy, The Ninja, Strider, and a few others.... 99cents? :D
Are you selling? :)

Do they have any left that you could pick up for me?
#25
He's got Cotton listed for $110... Kinda hope it sells so I can list mine at the same price. :)

Well, if all goes well, I'll probably get Shockman and Tonma... Nobody snipe them from me!

BTW, MotherGunner, when did you buy your games? How long has it been?

Quote from: gekioh on 12/09/2008, 10:15 PMOMG $100 for a used Cotton JESUS people are mad! I got a factory sealed copy for $59(thats with shipping included and insurance) not even a year ago.
Anyone notice what Cotton is going for on eBay lately? I'm having trouble finding any recent auctions. Maybe there aren't any?

I got it as part of a deal back in December, and I just don't like it that much, so I think I'll sell it. It's complete and mint, not a single scratch on the disc. Any thoughts on what it could go for?

I'm super jealous of that Wondermega. Do they show up often in Japan? I really want one.
#36
Awesome, thanks!

And yeah, I was thinking I'd play around with a dead Xbox motherboard before trying to do any more work on the Duo.
#37
Quote from: Duo_R on 12/24/2008, 03:27 AMMobius - if you grab a desoldering tool from Radio shack you can remove that port and put in a new one. You will just need to order the new port from mouser.com or something.
I would be open to this, but I have no idea what part I need. Anyone have a part number? Or, better yet, a donor port from a scrapped Duo?
#38
I've heard a lot about units where the lens assembly will get stuck, and all you need to do is get in there and push it out of its spot. Apparently this happens when you play a lot of CDRs, but I don't really know about that. This sounds like it could be your problem.
#39
Well, that did not work at all. None of the solder points were loose, but I redid them anyway. No change. I think the problem is with the port itself -- like maybe pins inside are bent, or something. I can't figure out how to get the little black casing off of the port to take a closer look, though. There are a couple tabs on the side that I bent back to try to lift it out, but that didn't do the trick.

Quote from: Mobius on 04/19/2008, 09:50 PMAlright, I decided I want to fix this. Can anyone give me a picture of what exactly to re-solder? It wasn't immediately obvious when I opened it up. Keep in mind I've never soldered anything before.
I'm pretty tired of this problem, and my blind first foray into trying to resolder it didn't fix anything.

Can someone explain, in detail, how to resolder the A/V port?

Huh, you know, now that I think about it, I think this one picture pretty well sums up why I don't like most current-gen action games.

Quote from: ceti alpha on 12/09/2008, 05:03 PMWell, I just got a e-newsletter from www.lifehacker.com that focused on the various upgrades/mods you can make to various media and consoles. It seems Wii owners will now be able to unlock the DVD playback capabilities of the Wii. And the best part is that it's a softmod. =D>

Linky bo binky:

http://lifehacker.com/400581/hack-your-wii-for-homebrew-apps-and-dvd-playback
This is actually a little out of date. There was a firmware upgrade that broke this. Other homebrew still seems to work, though.
