Hey all!  I'm currently fixing up a bunch of unloved PC Engine CD systems to give them new life.  I recapped the CD drive and it's working flawlessly with a different IFU and with audio cds.  The IFU-30A that came with it is giving me problems.  It works fine for Hu-Card games and shows a picture just fine, but after a CD game starts loading all I get is a black screen.  I tried cleaning the connectors and there was no improvement.  Any common problems with these that would cause it?  I would suspect the caps, but most of them are Elna brands and I have not heard of people recapping the IFU.  Any suggestions where to start or is there a list of caps for it?  Thanks!

I've been thinking of making a custom dock for the PC Engine like this for some time now.  The grafxbooster ttp will release soon and might be a good way to tap the RGB of any system you dock.  The trick would be to make a nice enclosure that doesn't look too ghetto.  Still working on my design.  Maybe some day I'll get around to making it!

Thanks for this!  I might build this and then I can clear out some of the extra controllers I keep around for Bomberman!

Reading the sound fix thread now, going to try replacing the radial leaded caps that are next to the vr heatsinks.  Makes sense that the heat could have dried them out.

Thanks for the comments!  Good idea!  I started to swap out some caps, but I'm noticing that my DUO-R sounds way way better.  I've changed SMT caps in the op-amp area with new Silmic 2s, but have noticed no improvement over the old caps that were possibly still good.  The DUO-R is louder and is much more dynamic with better mid range and bass.  Both original DUOs I have sound the same.  Does the DUO-R have a better sound circuit?  Going to keep changing caps, but need to order more.  I hope I can get the DUOs I have to sound as good as my DUO-R at least.

I've got a couple Duos I will be recapping soon.  Definitely will using this guide.  I'm curious is anyone has noticed a difference in sound quality between different types of caps.  I've heard ceramic caps are not the best option for audio circuits.  I will probably use the Panasonic FC series, but I'm wondering if audio grade caps would make the audio even better?  I would probably use ELNA Silmic 2s.  Most are probably just glad to get their Duo working, but I'm wondering it this would make a noticable difference.  Any thoughts?

Started playing some Image Fight the other day.  I've owned it for ages, but never put time into it.  Got the itch when I saw BitHead1000 playing it.  Pretty hard!!  Only got a few levels in so far.

Great video!!  So glad I picked one up from TZD back in the day!  Still have it in minty condition, but it has a dead/stuck pixel, grrr!

Feels like he is searching for topics to make videos on and doesn't have much knowledge on the topic.  The videos are much better when he sticks to what he knows!

I don't know of any places, but just wanted to wish you luck!  I found my TurboGrafx at the thrift store with a Beeshu joystick and China Warrior for $3.50, that was back in 2000 though.  I would suggest stopping at as many places as possible to increase your chances.

Nice work!  I like the lighting!  Never have to hunt for games in the dark!  Makes me want to build one like it.

Yeah, the tap is super cool.  4-way was used is many classic arcade games like Donkey Kong, Pac-man, and Burger Time.  I can't think of any Pc Engine games that would benefit from it off hand.

This was one of my holy grail items.  I found one CIB recently, so I'm selling this one off.  Happy bidding!  Thanks for looking!

Watching Dr Who much?  I had a Supergrafx, and sold it.  It's a cool looking console,
but it was collecting too much dust.  Needs more games.
Haven't seen the "obey teh pc-engine" thread, I take it?
Guess, I missed it.  It's been a while since I've been around.  Gotta dust off the PCE

Quote from: ceti alpha on 09/22/2009, 09:44 AMOrdyne is an example of where you really can judge a book by its cover. It's possibly the worst game on both the TG and PCE (the arcade is equally as bad). If it's not the worst, then it's in the top five. The Japanese cover is better, but we're really only separating the very bad from the worst.
Wow!  It's been a while since I've been on.  Ordyne is far from being the worst or even a bad game.  I have fond childhood memories of playing it and it is one of the reason I went back to collecting Turbo/PCE about 8-9 years ago.  It's great playing co-op too!  Its got great graphics and it controls well.  Also a good variety of levels.  The only problem I can see is some slowdown occasionally.  Maybe it's a bit to kiddy for you?

Thanks much!  Looks like the PCE version is just a digital comic type game  :?

WOW I wish I would have kept my copy.  Got it for $50 and sold it for not too much more than that  ](*,)

I have one with the TG16 module.  It does have a great picture through the composite video.  I don't have any of the LD games.  I was thinking about getting Varja. I've heard it's the best LD, but still not a very good game.  I got uber lucky and picked it up for $100.  I've got all the original boxes and packaging too!  I got it about 6 years ago off of yahoo classifieds.  He shipped first and I sent him a check  :o  Probably my best find EVER!

Anyone played this?  Full name would be Ghost Sweeper Mikami.  I've read
good things about the Super Famicom version.  Is it the same game?  Thanks much!
