Thanks. Now I will have to do some digging.

Just try and hook up the guncon or guncon2 between the component video green/y wire and the tv it definitely works. This is how I play all guncon games on my ps2. The only way you may need that thing is if your guncon2 did not come with the patch/splitter cable http://www.ecrater.com/p/13833178/multi-cable-cord-with-guncon-2-light.

Ok, so I guess I will just have to trace the audio from the HU6280. I am definitely no expert, but all info points to that producing the audio. The chip obviously must be working as it is also the main CPU. If no chip amplifies the PSG coming out of this does it go through any filtering caps?
#4
Is that even needed? With the AV Cables I just hook the Gun-Con composite adapter inline with composite video. If I am using component I just put it on the green or y line. Either signal should be combined with comp-sync.
#5
Is that the chip amplifies the audio that the hudson chip outputs? I am only guessing this may be the problem as redbook audio works, as does some of the voices in Fatal Fury Special. It does sound like it is trying to produce sound, but only faintly. This just frustrates me as before the power brick broke it was working perfectly.
#6
I finally got around to changing all the caps on my resurrected black pc-engine duo. Before I had no sound whatsoever , and now the only sound I have is crystal clear loud redbook audio. I have no hucard sound, and the only other sound I can hear is in lords of thunder when the character gets hit or dies. The system has no other issues and loads any game perfectly(Actually quicker than my Duo-R). All the caps are new, and as far as I can tell are working. Does anyone now what chip regulates the hucard audio?
#7
Ugh, I guess I kind of figured that is what needs to be done. I was just curious as to which ones specifically controlled the audio as I changed some already, and wanted to make sure those still are not suspect(Defective). Any good techniques for not lifting the solder pads? When I changed the one (10uf) located under the HU-Card slot I accidentally lifted the pad. The soldering is the easy part, it is the removing of these little bastards that sucks.

I recently got my old dead black duo working. It was out if commission for over 2 years. It ended up being just a dead power brick and the one from retro game cave got it running. Now after two years of not running the sound is completely gone, as well as my saves. :( A year before it died the CD sound went and I changed the caps above the heat sinks and that fixed it. Does anyone know of what caps are related to all audio, hucard and CD.It has virtually no sound unless I turn the volume to the max, and even still it sounds faint and scratchy.
#9
If the X Eye is the same price and working I would go for that.(Much more rare) The 32X while nice has such a small and non essential library of games to be worthwhile.
#10
Holy crap does this actually work?  [-o<

Does anyone know of a cheap replacement for the original  PCE DUO power supply. In the middle of playing Y's over a year ago the Duo started showing garbage on the screen and suddenly stopped working. I restarted it and there was still garbage on the screen and a loud high pitched noise. After a couple of restarts it stopped working altogether. I thought it was the diode but after further inspection I realized there was no volts coming out of the power brick. I just want to find something cheap as I believe this is not the only issue with the unit.
#12
Do both systems have the 75 ohm resistor on output? Some modders may leave this out assuming you will put this in the scart/output cable.
#13
My favorite controllers are the Hori Fighting Commander PC, Saturn Japanese version, and Genesis 6 button. The controllers that are absolute garbage are the Dreamcast, GameCube, and N64 for it's thumbstick issue. I have had my Dreamcast since launch and play it the least due to it's controller clunkiness.

To get a good sync for the CXA use a LM1881N. Put the composite video through this circuit and it will output composite sync.http://www.national.com/images/pf/LM1881/00915001.pdf This is needed as the systems own c-sync does not put out a useable signal.
#15
All of the mods I have tried have this problem. The one that has it the least is the one that uses the NJM chip for the amp. I have to see if I can find a picture that shows this better. Most games this is barely noticeable except when a solid light color is present in the backround. Games that have this the worst are all of Shinobi, all areas in China Warrior, alt level 2 in Dracula X, konami logo, some of the cutscenes in Y's, and some of the cutscenes in Double Dragon 2. The composite video has this issue too if you turn up the brightness you can kind of see it.
#16
Unfortunately as of yet I have not found anyway of eliminating the jailbars/lines. I have been researching many forums and no one has been able to solve this. I tried 3 different mods and they all produce these lines to varying degrees. All of these mods use the composite video to sync which if you look closely produces these lines as well. Maybe cleaning up composite or finding a way to use c-sync off the chip would help. The only suggestion I can make is to check all the grounds for the mod and the cable. If the ground is not solid it will intensify this issue and add interference.
#17
Just make sure the cable you get is the C DIN, and not the U DIN! The cable needed for the genesis model 1 is the U DIN, and the one your duo needs is the C DIN! The closest one I found is sold by mouser http://www.mouser.com/catalog/specsheets/KC-300361.pdf. The only thing you have to do is solder the wires to the scart end. If you get the wrong din it will be a hell trying to plug it in the console.
#18
All amp circuits I have tried so far have this same issue with the lines. Even the new ic amp
with the NJM2267 chip has this just to a lesser extent. It is most noticeable on light blue colored backrounds like the alternate level 2 in Dracula X. I wish there was a way to filter out this mess. Does anyone know how the portables process RGB to the LCD screen as that may be the best method.
#19
Unfortunately it looks as if the surface mount pad is completely gone. The only possible solution may be to see if you can find the trace to it and solder that. First and foremost I would clean off the surrounding used flux to get a better view. There is a repair kit method
http://www.engineeringlab.com/smtpadrepair.html but it seems way to involved and expensive.
#20
I just use regular old cheap rubbing alcohol 90%. You can get other flux cleaners but I have found them to be no more effective.
#21
It actually may be a problem with the Duo itself as I had the same problem on my PCE Duo with a REAL copy of the 4 in 1. Almost a year before my duo
finally died I had that same problem with Arcade card games as well. I think the problem stems from caps located near the lower right hand corner of the board. Those caps in my duo were leaking severely and after I changed some of them the loading problem all but stopped.
#22
Duo_R Are you using Comp video out with a sync stripper (Lm1881n)to go into the atlona rgb scart to yuv box? The Scart to Component box should already have a built in sync stripper and should just take straight up composite video. As far as I know there is no Pal or NTSC mode for these boxes as I can play some PAL games with no problems on my NTSC tv.
#23
These transistors can be had form Mouserhttp://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=EEns8I54Y6AnViSgt9qS6Q%3d%3das
well as everything you could need for this mod .
#24
The only thing I wonder about this is what RGB circuit the seller describes is being used between the PC ENGINE and
Monitor. Since it is official maybe it is not plagued with the annoying "Vertical Lines" issue :D.
#25
I use the Atlona Rgb scart converter and it works great, but if you want to avoid doing the audio mod and still have audio out from all systems use this:http://cgi.ebay.com/Pass-through-Scart-to-RCA-adaptor-with-S-VHS_W0QQitemZ200270336082QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL?hash=item200270336082&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318.This will passthrough all 21 pins and allow for audio out.
#26
Sorry no pics thought it looks like duo_r's just a different bundle of games.
I have owned the Duo-R since July.
I bought it from Ebay seller Doujindance.
It is my favorite system as it actually works, something I cant say about my old Duo .
The extras it has is The RGB amp,8 Din Pin output, and unlike most I see on ebay it is Clean Bright Extra Fresh !
#27
The problem with my Duo is the fact that it no longer powers on. The Voltage travels to the point of the diode right next to the main fuse but not after. I think the diode is at fault , but i have not had the time lately to probe further. So for now I am using a Duo R I purchased from the seller on Ebay thats premodded RGB.
#28
Is dishwashing the board necessary? When I changed the caps in the op amp section I scrubbed the pads with a q-tip soaked in alcohol. I also had to change the caps located in the front right corner to get the laser to read properly. Maybe I will change them all and give this  a shot if I ever get it to work again.
#29
Be aware this game erases saves! :shock:I was hours into cosmic fantasy 2 and Ys before having to start all over after just trying this game out.
#30
I guess people like this will make me have to eventually pay $100 for a $30 game  [-X.
#31
My duo gets no volts past the diode! Does anyone know the value? It just one day stopped working :-k??
#32
Wow I guess I am also not the only one with this problem! If you don't see the bars try a different game as they are not prominent in every game. One game in particular that you can see the bars in is Shinobi,Splatterhouse, or any game with a light solid colored backround. I have tried many methods and different mods but nothing fixes it. I guess this is like a NES with rgb in that it will never be %100 correct.
#33
Does anyone know how much Ys 3 for Turbo actually should cost? On Ebay It seems to float around the $100 range, is this right?
#34
Those Vertical Lines have come up in just about every method I have used to amp the RGB.I Have tried the standard amp with the transistors, using a Cxa1645p as amp,and this method http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=2351.msg20379#msg20379. The last method produces the best results and barely shows the lines, though if you look hard enough they still show up in certain situations(Konami Logo). I put all my systems through a scart component converter, and this is the only one that has any problem.
#35
The CXA1645p is supposedly better as many different amp options exist but with questionable results and you can make s-video with the chip if you choose. The bars are very faint kind of the same effect some genesis model 1 gets running through composite.
#36
I have recently modded my Pc Engine Duo to have component video and while the picture is sharp and has correct contrast I notice very faint vertical bars in the backround of some games. The way I added component was by amplfying the signal with a CXA1645P and feeding the lines to a din 8 connector then to rgb scart to yuv converter. Is this a common problem with the duo or is some thing wrong with the circuit.
#37
Thanks for the info I was almost worried this was another of the many issues these duos are known for.
#38
I recently got shapeshifter(usa version) played for awhile and saved a game. Then when I tried to play cosmic fantasy 2 I noticed my save file had been deleted as well as all of my other save files. Is this just a problem with this game or is my Black PCE Duo the problem.I went into the file editor menu and the only thing in it was the shapeshiter save WTF!
