Lochlan....there is no other cpo under the Willow, and the buttons you see in the pics are the only holes in the cp.  So I don't know that it was before.  But  I do know it is fixing to get some Willow side art after getting re-vinyled on the sides and front.  I located one original side art sticker for it, and am going to get 2 copies made of it and use them on the cab.  Splatterhouse is still the "jam" in it though.  My wife has played it so much she can beat it on normal diff. (4 hearts) with extra lifes set up for 50K and 100K (instead of 30k and 75k like TG) with one credit.  I am still trying to beat it on hard (two hearts) without ever using a life (one mask), but always seem to loose a life somewhere

I do not know what the cab originally was.  Is there any way to tell that I don't know about??
#3
This Willow was a kit. Though I have seen two different control panels, so it makes me wonder if there were actual cabinets for it and kits, or just two different control panels for kits :?:

General Gaming / Got an arcade cabinet!!!
07/27/2008, 01:20 PM
Well, yesterday I picked up a Willow arcade unit.  It was complete minus the side art.  It even had the service manual still inside.  It works great.  The screen was blue in places and therefore in need of degaussing, and I fixed it buy using a soldering gun.  The Willow game itself is actually really fun
.  But I'm sure most of you know the main reason for getting it was to play Splatterhouse.  And this is a great cabinet for Splatterhouse since it has the same control layout as Splatterhouse did.  Anyway, here it is...../dscf6926pr0.jpg

There is no freeplay setting on it.  Just open the coin door and push down the little lever and you are set.
#7
Again, you are missing the simple fact that no eumlator was used for my high scores.  I had no reason to use one, I own both copies of the game, and clearly stated why I used the US version.
#8
Oh fuck here comes the SG shit again

No, the only way to prove you didn't pause a game and therefore "cheat" would be to take a vid of it, just like proving hard mode was played through a whole game.

It was only you who called me a cheater in the shoutbox and claimed I used an emulator to get my scores.... after  stated that I would want to use an emulator to try and get the score to 10 million, to see if the score counter would go that far.
#9
Like I said mike, it doesn't matter to me.  It's just you edited your post to make you look better about what I had posted after your post.
#10
Mad fury

Me saying you "demanded" it was in responce to you getting all out of shape in the shoubox about my score and my taking 2 days to do my score.  Don't go trying to get all literal on me now.

Nothing here makes me look "worse" mike.  I posted my high scores here for fun, and told everyone how I got my 5 mil run.

You told Nat that to prove a "hard" mode score, a vid must be taken of the game.  Well, in your words, pausing is cheating, and the only way to prove that pauses weren't take would be by video.  I actually don't care myself.
#11
O.k. remove your edited post, Mike :D
#12
don't edit your posts after I post, just post new ones 8)

i'm not dragging anyone down, just stating how the scoring goes.  You are the one who started up chatting about MY high score in the chatbox after someone told me "nice score on Splatterhouse".
#13
You don't get it do you #-o  Cheating would be giving a score while I was lieing about how I got them. I told everyone I played my 5 mil. score over a period of 2 days
#14
then don't count my 5+ mil. score.  Who give a fuck?  It is all for fun, we ain't playing in the Wizard movie 8-[
#15
No Mike, not you, a drama queen.  You just happend to be the only person to throw a bitch fest in the shoutbox cause I said I did my 5mil. score over 2 sesions.
#16
Also, no high score over 230k or so should be accepted as a no pause run since it requires stalling.  Though according to Mike, this isn't cheating, as long as no pauses are taken, but that would take video to verify.
#17
My 1,042,200 point score is the longest I have gotten in one setting, without pausing.  Cause Mike demanded I set the record straight.

Come on down to Texas and have a go at it man

O.k. I was wrong, they added 4 birds on the Marty.  Or took away 4 birds, depending on how you look at it.

I played both versions sober (slightly abnormal ) and the Marty is harder by far, in some aspects.  You can barely avoid getting hit by the leeches at the end of stage one,  the flying picture at the end of stage 2 is harder to avoid, fuckin aliens in stage 5 will stick your ass quick, and the boss's 3rd and last attempt to kill you is harder to avoid damage.  The hatching things on stage 6 hatch fucking fast, fast.  But the boss is easier to kill.  And the last stage is pretty much the same, the falling dirt seems just slightly harder to avoid.

I didn't mean to turn this into a TG 16-to-Marty comparison, it just happened that way.  And it was all for the good of a game that deserves as much attention as we can give it.  Soon, very soon I will have the arcade pcb in my possesion.  I have a guy who owns a arcade/pinball shop (a very big one) that is going to let me hook my pcb up to his test rig (I don't have a cab. to put it in just yet ](*,)) and test/play it next weekend probably.  I hope he doesn't expect me to turn it on and just make sure it works and that's it.  Cause once I get started I can't stop until I've beat it. I can then die a happy man O:)

You know, that is a good idea.  I know the owner of our local bowling alley, and though I haven't seen him in ages, he might be cool with that.  Assuming he has a jamma cab. there :-k

I paid $243 for it.  Not sure if it was a "good" deal, didn't really care though.  I wanted it, he had it, I got it

Damn, I really just want to verify this pcb is fully working.  The guy I bought it from says he tested it and it works.  But I wanted to be able to verify that fairly quickly, so if it isn't I can send it back to him.

General Gaming / Arcade PCB Question
07/19/2008, 08:21 AM
Hey hey hey (it's not Fat Albert), I just purchased a Splatterhouse pcb.  Now my plans have been, and still are, to get an arcade cabinet to put in our living room.  I talked my wife into it and I'm not gonna miss the chance to take her up on it.  My question here is.... is there any way to CHEAPLY play the pcb, other than inside a arcade cab. or with a actuall supergun?  I read somewhere awhile back about someone using a computer power supply and monitor and some harness to  play one specific jamma pcb.  I don't wanna spend much $$$ since that will take away from money towards the arcade unit.  Just figured I'd ask, since I know little-to-nothing about this subject.  Thanks.
#24
The US and Jap. versions are the same in difficulty and have the same enemy placement.  I just played the US version cause I was planning on playing over several days and didn't want to leave my Duo R or region modded TG on for a really long time like that.

I personally hate the purple mask.  The other differences are the level four boss is different, the alter at the end of level four is gone, and the cross marking the final boss on the ground is instead a tombstone.

If you set the difficulty of the Marty version to easy, it is comparable in difficulty/lives to the TG/PC Engine.  The enemy placement is a little different, but not much.  Zombie vomit is much more tricky to jump on the Marty, they added two flying birds on level three, and that is all I can think of right now.
#25
That is my guess as to why they changed the mask color.  The FM Towns version through s-video is awsome :!:  I don't have any way of making a video.  To get high scores you have to stall at the boss of level 6....forever

I think I slipped into a coma around the 3rd hour or so and lost alot of lives.  It was actually hard to stay focused THAT long.

Quote from: COUNT SMRIFNACK on 07/06/2008, 10:40 PMYeah, I guess it came in with porting the arcade version.  I mean once you figure out a pattern, you can stay in certain spots for literally hours, as you can see by my score.  I guess they needed a way to prevent this on the arcade cabs :-k

Now I just wish there was a way to prove "hard" mode scores without video.  I really feel like I'm exploiting/cheating the game when trying to get a really high score on the default mode.
Not really, the exploit areas are still present no matter what, normal or hard, and you are still going to put in about the same amount of effort into those areas no matter what. What you really need to aim for is a video done of hard mode beaten without dying,or on one credit, and focus less on the high score aspect of hard mode. Honestly, you die alot it seems even on default, like maybe you are getting lazy or sumthin after you get so many points. I get a tad lazy too near the end after Ive got the score Im pleased with or get near it. Originally it seemed only fair to present  a low score here others could beat, but now you and I both are so far out there way more so then the normal person is going to put effort into to get such high scores, kinda similar to my Override score thread.
That's what I meant about a hard mode run, doing it not for points but for making it with dying the least.

I don't die alot (see 405k score pics).  I purposely ran down my lives to one mask left before beating the level 6 boss on the 1 million point run.

Anyways, this is fun, but I don't know if I'll get a chance to spend to beat your score anytime soon, so others should join in.  Come on guys get out your Splatterhouse and kick a little monster ass!

There really is no end to how high we "could" go.  It took me about an hour to do the 1 million point run.  The thing is there is no killer blue orb to end any stalling for points like on the arcade and FM Towns versions, like this...

/dscf6862ek2.jpg
(this is from the Towns version, the blue orb comes and kills you if you stall in a place that the fog ((also not in the tg/pce version)) doesn't come)

I really just did it to see if it would count up that high.  It seems you stop getting bonus lives for points at some point, I think at around six or so, I'm not sure.  But you definitely can collect at least 5, even though only 4 show.

I did a run on my Express this morning.  I beat the level 6 boss and had 193,200.  My camera would not take a pic that would allow the score to be read though, so I turned it off.  Would have been so close to 300k ](*,)  Any higher points run will just be a matter of how long you can stay alive in certain place and get kills.

WOW!

It is apparent that Marty's suffer from bad capacitors like the Duo's .....
After a couple hours of play time this morning, I decided to take the Marty apart and remove the disk drive to try and see about what size the drive belt is.  Easy enough.  The disk drive unit is all one piece.....

dscf6778bf1.jpg

I took it out and unplugged the ribbon cable connected to it, put the console back together (which so far only involved 5 screw).

I plugged the Marty back up and turned it on to see if it would function properly without the drive.  All hell broke loose at this point.  The audio was all fucked up.  Loud pops, static, noise, even when there was supposed to be no audio.  I figured it was because of the disk drive being removed, so I re-installed it.  No fix.  Still really bad sound problems.
The only game system I've ever had sound issues with is a Gamegear.  It acted similarly to this, and was fixed by replacing some audio caps.

Well I have no online resources for help fixing this (like we have here for TG/PC Engine problems) so I jumped in.  I took it completely apart down to the pcb.  I looked around for any obviously leaky caps and found one lone cap sitting by itself....leaking.  I removed it and cleaned the pcb underneath it, which had quite a bit of the leaked fluid on it.  I put the system back together without the the cap, to see if the cap itself was audio related.  The sound worked perfectly without it.  So I am under the assumption that maybe the problem was the fluid making contact on the board beneath it, there were  other traces running below the cap in fact.  So I replaced the cap with a very close rated one (470uf 10v to-a 470uf 16v) and put it back together again.  All's well so far.  I threw this in while I was there.....

I paid $250 for the Marty, all the cables, two controllers and the two games I previously posted.

The music and sound effects are great in comparison to the TG/PC Engine version.  My favorite is the sound effect the meat cleaver makes when chopping an enemy. I can't describe it other than a "ttthhhwwaapp" sound, but it's the coolest.

I'm at a loss on how to post any sound recordings, give me some ideas and I'll try my best for you.

OK Tat here goes....

This is the main menu in the system itself.

These two (piece them together) are of the menu that appears when you select "exit t-menu" on Splatterhouse's main screen.

This is what comes up when you select the "yeah!" icon.  What's going on here?

I got Splatterhouse for $60, but it was loose.  I just couldn't see paying for a complete Splatterhouse, what I paid for a loose one and the Marty system together.

I will try and take some photos of the menu screen that don't look like the first one here this weekend.  Thanks for the offer to help btw.

Yeah, I really don't plan on collecting games for it like the TG/PC Engine though.  They are way overpriced it seems ](*,)  The guy sent me a stack of CDRs with it but I ain't gonna play them in the Marty.  I'll only check them out with the UNZ emmulator.  For me the price of the system was worth it just for Splatterhouse.

Oh yeah, the guy also sent me a loose (actual disc not cdr) Raiden Densetsu, which is a vert. scrolling shooter, which isn't too bad.  And this game...

dsc0010uh7.jpg

I don't know what it is cause I can't read Japanese and it won't play cause the disk drive belt is busted.

Oh yeah, so if anyone knows where to get disk drive belts for the Marty, please let me know.  Otherwise I'm gonna try to find a rubber band that fits accordingly 8-[

General Gaming / FM Towns Marty
06/26/2008, 10:33 PM
So I finally got a FM Towns Marty.  I had never played one before or seen one in person.  But I had to have one for....

dscf6735el9.jpg

It is a cool as console, I only wish I could read the menus for it.  The game menu stuff is in english but the system itself seems to have alot of stuff in it, which I don't have a clue what it is.  I did manage to set the clock in it =D>

O.k.  So any self respecting Splatterhouse fan has to get one of these.  I played it for the first time today on the Marty at lunch, and it fucking took me back to 1989 when I played it at our local skating ring/arcade.  This game is so much different than even the PC Engine version, which is great itself.  I can't stop playing it!!

So now, on to the porn.  I have read that there were tons of anime porn put out for the Marty.  So why can't I find any?  Hell, regular games are hard enough to find, but I haven't seen any that are to be considered "dirty" for sale.  WTF?

Anyway, I'm glad I shelled out the money for this system, it has already been worth it.  If anyone here has any FM Towns links or info to contribute, please do.  I can't find a whole lot of web sites with much on this system.
