Localization Legend "Supper the Subtitler" has "joined the club" in being targeted for CD-pressings by bootleg master Tobias/PCEWorks! His projects like Private Eyedol, Galaxy Fräulein Yuna 1 & 2, etc. are now being sold on Chinese factory-pressed CDROMs...

That's why I thought it would make a good quiz question.  It's an image of the mech from Browning but within a different game.

Knights of the Round and Kind of Dragons allow character to move across a z-axis, so the closest you'll find is Golden Axe, but it is quite inferior to the other ports.  A Samurai-themed game, Takeda Shingen, allows for similar movement in a hack-and-slash style.  Your best bet for medieval themed action games are platforming; I prefer Legendary Axe II or the Valis series.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I found something that seems obvious but may not be.  (I didn't scour the entire 162 pages of this thread, so if this is a repeat, I'm sorry).

Quote from: Tatsujin on 05/27/2012, 12:47 AMBut the pce has the way way waaay cooler ones. A very fact too.
Fact

Quote from: guest on 05/27/2012, 12:02 PMI've seen this discussion on a couple other forums in the past and in the end, the Mega Drive is close to PCE with official Asian/North American/European physically unique models, but wins worldwide because of Brazil alone.
Ah.  All those TecToy oddities I'll likely never own.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 05/27/2012, 12:49 AMThe Megadrive has seen comparatively few outwardly visible variations, the PCE would have the most...
Well put.

So, in my revised view, the PC-Engine has more visibly obvious variants than any other console.

Saw this stated in the Sega Genesis entry on Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Genesis

"The Mega Drive has received more officially licensed variations than any other console. Each region has its own peculiarities and unique items, while other variations were exercises in reducing costs"

I've always said the PC-Engine has the most variations.  I count 11 officially sanctioned variations of the PC-Engine (including the Sharp Twin X1 ... and 12 if you count the SuperGrafx).

Which is correct: me or the wiki entry?

On the start screen when it asks you to press "run" to start, hit "select" instead.
I attached a pic of the menu below.

Choose the first option.  You should see a list of saves there.  If you don't recognize the title (you may need to compare the Japanese text to that on the covers of the game case), then delete it.  I haven't done this in a while so I don't remember if you have to confirm 'yes' of 'no' for each.  Just in case はい = yes いいえ = no.

Cheers.  Hope this helps.

Quite right.  Perhaps I had the old Intellivision B-17 Bomber on the brain when I wrote it.  Thnx.

I wouldn't mind throwing my hat into the ring.

Here are some samples of my writing style.

Thanks Cabbage.  That looks to be from the exact production line.  Both boxes even refer to Hucards as "IC" cards (whatever this means).  Tested it and works with normal Japanese Hucards.  I especially like the turbo buttons atop the controller.

Quote from: guest on 04/22/2012, 12:54 AMWhere did you come across this thing?
A small shop in Shanghai.

Quote from: apachacha on 04/22/2012, 03:45 AMHow expensive were these things, exactly ?
The extremely patient and friendly old lady asked for 300 RMB (roughly $50).  Having no point of reference for price, I happily agreed.

Went out today to look for some 3DS games, came back with this PC-Engine clone.  There were two there and the one I bought, though unused, was clearly in storage for quite a while as the wires had sunk into the melted styrofoam.  Happy to report it works fine.  I have searched the forum to see if this clone has been posted before, but I could not find it (at least not by the name "PC-2100").

Quote from: romanoaj on 11/04/2011, 09:39 AMI do not own the manual.  Does anybody have a scan or a link so I can use my limited Japanese skills to translate a possible justification for how this game fits the source material?
Video Game Den has a scan of the manual as well as the text from Blazing Lazers.

Thanks.  I've been to VGD many times, but never realized there were PDF files.  Cheers.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 04/04/2008, 11:39 PMWell I think there is some contrived plot line in the front of the manual...that's probably it.
hahahaha. yeah, I'm sure you're right.

Your words have heartened me Necromancer and I definitely like Esteban's idea of rotating systems like a pitching staff.   In that previous simile, the LT is definitely my ace.

Often, when I buy a lot of HuCards, I have no idea what I'm staring at.  Of course, one could google the product code and usually find what game is what, but this is almost impossible when buying stuff on eBay and the games are not labeled by the seller.  SO, I was thinking of creating an identification guide online.  Before I scan the HuCards, however, I just wanted to make sure there were no danger in scanning the cards.  I know this is probably a dumb question, but just wanted to ask opinions about whether or not scanning the cards can cause some sort of damage to them.

Being paranoid, but also safe.

I finally procured a fairly nice LT with a great screen and speakers.  Already owning about 10 PC-Engines, I'm not sure how often I should play with the LT.  It's easy and convenient and I love it, but I'm not sure how pixels start burning out and the like.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It's the most playable game from the Xak series.  Almost plays like Legend of Valkyrie, but you're right--there are some dialogues in towns that will cause some confusion.  I was able to muddle through it though.  Beautiful sprites.  Bubblegum poptastic and good fun.  Enjoy.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I am enjoying Titan.  It's somehow mindlessly engaging.  Just wanted to know two things:
1.  Am I the only one who doesn't think it's horrible?
2.  What the heck is the purpose of the yellow "B" stars you collect in the game?

Thanks,
ajr

The Korean PC-Engines (Vistars) seem impossible to find.  I was curious if anyone here has one.

this was posted only a few days ago.  interesting timing.
Though I cannot understand a blessed word, I really dig the music.

Okay.  Finished.  Play clock reads 22 hours.  I would say at least one of them was spent recharging my magic while running errands around my house.  It was rather rewarding and did not consult a walkthrough.  I especially enjoyed the "meet the developer" session at the end.  (translated of course).  One of the programmers leaves us with the profound words "Yuri Shiratori is hot!" which prompted me to find out just who Yuri Shiratori is, and yes, she is hot.

Okay, spent a few days playing the Ys series in order.  Books I and II took a couple of days, III a day and a half.  IV seems interminable (not in a bad way necessarily).  Just curious, for those who have played it, how long it took to complete.  Thanks.
#27
yeah.  For a moment, I thought it might be a romanticized version of events that uses the stereotypical hero figure rather than the "boy" who we all know and love.  If that's the case, the guys at Falcom are more amazing than previously thought.

What dissuaded me from that thought, was the US cover art depicts the "buff" Adol as opposed to the red-headed youth.
#28
Thanks.  Was really wondering if it was an American reinterpretation, but apparently not.  Strange.
#29
I am curious to know if the Japanese intro to Ys III has the same strange montage that occurs at the beginning of the US one.  Adol is a tall, blonde man with a body like Fabio and the art is completely out of phase with the anime of the original games.  I looked on youtube to find out, but no definitive answers.  If anyone owns the Japanese version, I'd appreciate your response.

Great.  I will write to the site administer to check source.  Thanks for your resources/research.

As my topic heading implies, I'm looking to find the original retail prices of some games.  I'm trying to write a review of Minesweeper (CD-ROM2) and wanted to know how much it would sell for back in 1992.  Would it have cost as much as a Pom Ping World or even a Castlevania?  If anyone knows how to find this kind of info, please let me know.  Thanks in advance.

To everyone:  Thanks.  Opened it, moved the gears back.  The cinema for Fray is now rolling.  Before I even pressed one button, I wanted to thanks you guys for helping a brother out.

(P.S.  STAY AWAY FROM THOSE CDRs!!)

Okay.  I'll buy a bit tool from ebay and try to move it back.  Thanks.

(As far as the other Duos, one is a DuoR and the other an interface unit with CD-ROM2.  email me to discuss:  romanoaj31@hotmail.com)

 ](*,)

Hey, newbie here.  My third TurboDuo in one year has failed me.  A few days ago, I opened the door, manually stopped a CD from spinning, and now it doesn't spin at all.  Two questions:  1) Did I break a motor?
and 2)  The lens presently sits toward the outside of the CD, yet I notice that on other systems (Dreamcast, Amiga CD32, Saturn, etc.) the lens sits at rest toward the middle.  Where is it supposed to be?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.  (Fray in Magical Adventure came in the mail today, but she can't come out and play!)
