2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

Coming to Southwest Washington is a small videogame show for charity April 9th, 2011.  If any forum members are in the near area, you might want to check out the event.

On the heels of last year's successful event, our own John H(me swlovinist) is organizing the 2nd Annual Cowlitz Gamers for Kids Classic Video Game Show on April 9th in Kelso, WA. Last year we helped John raise over $1,300 for the Childrens Justice and Advocacy Center (CJAC) and we're convinced we can do better this year with your help!

PRGE is absorbing much of the cost of putting on this show so that 100% of the admission will go directly to CJAC. It is CJAC's mission to provide children who have experienced sexual or physical abuse a coordinated community approach to investigation, prosecution and treatment that promotes their safety, healing, and well-being. CJAC is operated out of the Cowlitz County Prosecutor's office.

The show will be on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Kelso Red Lion Hotel in Kelso, Washington. Kelso is about 1 hour north of Portland or 2 hours south of Seattle on I-5. Doors open at 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 to CJAC, although we invite you to contribute more if you can! The event is child-friendly so please feel free to bring the entire family!

      Kelso Red Lion
      510 Kelso Dr.

      See map

What Can you Expect?

The show will be held in a larger ballroom this year rather than being distributed across two smaller rooms as in 2010. Like last year, it will feature classic video game vendors, a freeplay gaming arcade and several video game tournaments throughout the day.
Tournaments

In honor of Super Mario recently turning 25 years old this last year, there will be a speed run challenge on Super Mario Brothers 1-1 this year at the event.
Confirmed Vendors

The following vendors will be in attendance at the 2011 show in Kelso:

    * AtariCollector.com/Rick Weis - Vancouver, WA
    * Classics collectibles store - Kelso, WA
    * Commodore Computer Club - Vancouver, WA/Portland, OR
    * RecycledGamer - Portland, OR
    * Specialty Gamer - Seattle, WA
    * Y-Bot Classic Games - Portland, OR

Expect a lot of good deals on classic video game merchandise. In addition to outside video game vendors, there will be T-shirts and other merchandise specifically made for the event that will also be sold specifically to suport CJAC.

Off-Topic / Portland Retrogaming Expo 2011
01/16/2011, 03:06 PM
I hope that this is the right forum to post in.  Please forgive me if it is not.  I wanted to give this site a heads up about our upcoming show.  In the years past, we have had some great Turbografx and PC engine items at our show, and a whole bunch more!

The 2011 Portland Retro Gaming Expo will be held on the weekend of September 24-25, 2011 at the Doubletree Hotel in Portland, Oregon!
What's different from last year?

Our 6th annual show will enjoy the following enhancements:

    * Different weekend. For the past two years we have held the PRGE on the third weekend of September. In 2011 we have moved it out one week so as not to coincide with other events in town (like the awesome Portland Pirate Festival) and to move to a new venue that was available on that weekend.

    * New venue. The 2011 PRGE will be held in the Exhibit Hall of the Portland Doubletree Hotel located in Portland's Lloyd District. The Doubletree is located just steps from the Lloyd Center MAX Light Rail station and just across the street from Holladay Park.

    * More space. While we enjoyed a strong relationship with the Portland Crowne Plaza, our show has simply outgrown their facilities. In 2010 we used over 8,500 square feet of floor space spread across two rooms at the Crowne Plaza. Our decision to move to the Exhibit Hall at the Doubletree gives us access to 17,000 square feet in one contiguous room.

    * More games. In 2010 our Freeplay Arcade featured more consoles and full-size arcade cabinets than ever before. Due to the immense popularity of the arcade and tournaments we have allotted even more floor space for games in 2011. PRGE is currently working with some local arcade and pinball collector groups to help us secure even more game donations. Stay tuned for more details as we firm up these plans.

We encourage you to check back with this website often as we will constantly be updating with information on the show and classic gaming in general. Look for admissions and vendor rates to be posted soon.

I have in the last 4 years scored two PC Engine Duos that both are in need of repair.  They both have been looked at already, but without success.  The laser has been replaced in one of them.  Both CD drives do not move at all.  Some other issues were tested, but to no avail.  If there is anyone skilled at repairing duos, please contact me at oneswfan@hotmail.com.  I would really like both of my systems to get fixed.  Thanks, John

I currently have I have two Turbo Duos, one US and other imported for Japan. Both are doing the same thing. A friend of mine says that he can fix them, but needs to know what parts to order to do so.  They both boot up, play hucards fine, but when I put in a cd, they "click" once and nothing. I have some questions for this forum.

1. Is this just a lens issue or a cd motor issue?

2. I found this link on how to fix the lens.

Do I need more than this to fix what seems to be wrong with my units?

3. Is there any other great walkthrough sites that can help me with this issue? I appreicate all the help. Thanks, John

I just got mine in the mail....holy cow they are awsome!  Very high quality and was very pleased!  I usually reside over at the DP forum(which I will advocate some business for ya), and the sticker set is a must for people like me who have amassed piece by piece(and sometimes damaged pieces)a pretty decent TG collection(14 from a US card/cd set).

Sparky, thanks ton, they are awsome!

I have sent you a pm, as I am very interested in a full set of stickers.  I am only about 14 away from a US CD and Hucard set...and could greatly benefit from having one of these sets to spruce up the library.  Thank you for going out of your way to make these!
