10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

I'm not expecting much but I just picked up Toilet Kids. I love me some shmups, even if they're "shitty"!

I have had a Supergrafx for quite a while now but have yet to play it due to no power adapter. Is there anything that's compatible with it?

Play it as long as you want. Hopefully you finish it if it allows. I also have an extra Loom that is actually in great condition that will start going around as well!

I have a second copy of Ys III that isn't in the greatest condition but played fine while I played it. I was thinking that I could just donate it to the community so if there was anyone that just wanted to play it, they could keep it until it was complete and then on to the next person on the list. I could ship it to the first person and then it would be that persons responsibility to get it to the next and so forth. We could use this thread to track it. Any interest?

My daughter is 6 and absolutely loves Bonk. She's still working on Bonk's Adventure due to the limited playtime she has. She also enjoys Magical Chase. I figured that she would because it's easier than Cotton. She doesn't really care for the newer gen stuff.
#16
When I bite the dust my stuff goes to my daughter. She might only be six, but she has enjoyed looking for games with me and plays retro much more than new gen. If you ask her what happens to daddy's games when he gets old...she replies "I take it and keep adding games and then give it to my kids when I'm old" to top it all off, you ask her "Bonk or Mario?" She says "duh..Bonk"

You know, I can run through the NES Ninja Gaiden like I made the game but the PCE version is a bitch. I don't know what it is exactly that I struggle with but it just doesn't feel the same.

Quote from: mossman43 on 03/06/2014, 09:26 PMWhen I was in 5th grade my best friends father worked for NEC here in Massachusetts. My friend was obviously the first of the group of us to have it, but his dad showed us a pricing list that he could get the systems and games for. I asked my mom (I love you mom!) to get me a system and she did because it was better than buying NES games for their retail prices. All of my games came right from his dad and ranged in prices from $10-$20 for the employees, so I had the opportunity to get whatever was coming out. The best day was when I got Splatterhouse and Ninja Spirit in the same order. It was fucking amazing playing those two back to back! Unfortunately his parents ended up getting divorced and he moved to Pennsylvania and I haven't heard or seen him since. Anyhow, I've loved the system ever since!
dude... you should absolutely reconnect with your childhood friend...

shhh...

there's this thing called Facebook that you can probably find him on. You and me, we're from the same generation and I've gotta tell ya, pen pals I never thought I'd hear from again are on this thing aplenty. You should cyberstalk him, lure him to this community (or the non-community at DoxPhile) and catch up on old times. Once an obeyer, always an obeyer!

* Nulltard looks around again and gives the all clear sign.

So, yeah, that sports event, eh? Nothing like that! Wow!
lol, you are one funny dude!! That Facebook thing.....I tried, but no luck. I'm sure I will eventually find him.

Quote from: CGQuarterly on 03/05/2014, 01:21 PMSeriously, you guys?  According to all of you, is there any LEGITIMATE reason to want to buy the more sought-after Turbo titles?  Can anyone come here and ask to buy something that's worth any money with getting drummed out of town?  He offers $200, so he must be some asshole who needs everything right now, blah blah blah.  But if he had offered less, or asked for a "good deal" then you guys would be jumping on his ass for low-balling the community.  In the mean time, guys like this, or like that MooseMan dude could turn out to be great members of the community if you guys didn't get the torches and pitchforks out every time someone wanted to buy anything but dirt commons and PCE hueys.

Jumping on the flaming bandwagon was fun for awhile, but I'm really starting to see why this place has the reputation that it does.
Thank you! I'm glad to see that you understand what we were trying to do. I do have to say though, for all of the shit I took on my thread, there were some awesome people that stuck up for me and I received some great PM's. $4,400. I'm sure that no deal to any of you. I didn't mind it and I'm happy to add it. I play most of what I have, but I collect everything from the NES up. Now I have found some good games cheap, but I've also paid some high prices. Never bought a game for more that a few hundred, this was a once in a lifetime thing. Also, I obviously do care what you guys say/ think or I would have posted this before.

Yeah, you're doing this yourself.

I don't respect anyone who spends 5000$ on a shitty game.

QuoteDon't pretend to know me bud, because you don't.
See, if only you'd actually posted more than like 40 times.  We'd all know each other!

You're doing a fine job of pretending you know all about all of us.

You're basically the outsider, looking in.    The random dude in the corner that is suddenly trying to act like he's been here the whole time, and wants to get in on some shit.

My suggestions are:

1) Play the Japanese one.  It's the same shit.  If you need English in a shooter, I question your education and brain functionality in general.
2) Save the 5000$ to buy something much more useful.
3) Play all of the other games the PC Engine has to offer, because Magical Chase is at the middle of the list of "shit you should play sometime soon"

It's overrated.   People notice it because of the pricetag.   If it were a throwaway 10$ game, nobody would give a fuck.

It's Cotton for retards.
Understood. I thought all of this would have happened if I came here with a lowball number, didn't think if be attacked for wanting to pay ebay prices, but I get that you guys are against that shit. But now let me ask this, with this waiting line, does the game ever change hands between members here? And if so, what is it sold for? How do you guys base the prices?

certainly didn't wan't to be an asshole here, just the your mentioned point of not understanding the even so little text in a pure shoot 'em up is beyond my understandings as a valid point. certainly not worth of paying like 30x more for a game that is already expensive in its original form imho. if it were an RPG e.g. it would be whole different rabbit hole for sure.[/quote]
It's cool. I did order the PCE Cotton because I heard that all you have to do is press the select button at the main menu and it switches to English text which I think is great!

Quote from: guest on 02/26/2014, 09:45 PMMister Moss,

I'm writing to you because I have been in your shoes. I know you meant no offense by your presence here or your enquiry as to the acquisition of the "white whale", if you will. For some reason, or no reason, you have found yourself in the cross hairs of many prominent individuals in this community. You didn't intend for this to happen, but you're no pushover so you're not going to let this go unchecked.

You are justified in your desire to defend your desire to possess Magical Chase. I envy your disposable income, and I'm certain you are something akin to a rocket surgeon. I am, too, but all of my millions were wrapped up in the development of the Magical Chaise. Perhaps you saw it a few posts up? It is still for sale.

Anyway, i just wanted to let you know that the very people who are attacking you are awesome guys. If you enjoy gaming more than collecting, you and they will get along. I enjoy both, but have the resources for neither (my time and trust were donated to aids research and time travel). The advice you are receiving, nay, being force fed... like it or not, is not going to change. A $5k complete magical chase is possible. But pursuing the hunt here will not be productive. I don't personally fault you for trying. This forum has its own set of social norms that don't exactly come intuitively to many (myself included).

Just stick around, obey, and find Magical Chase some other day. We will celebrate your fortune on that day, because we'll all be buds by then. Or not. Choose your own adventure, y via condios, amigo.

Sincerely,
null

edit: goddamn... I need to get faster at phone typing. You already posted like a bazillion nanoseconds ago...
Thank you very much, great advice and thanks for understanding what I was intending to do. I appreciate your words!

Quote from: CGQuarterly on 02/26/2014, 09:16 PMThat's fine, but again I'll say that you are on a fool's errand here.  As has already been stated, the Turbo market has gone crazy because people like you are willing to pay whatever because you "need" these games.  Just about all of us here maintain game libraries because we love old games, not because we collect them like stamps.  Because when they game becomes that valuable, it's no longer practical to spend the money when all you want to do is play it.  Especially when it's Japanese counterpart is so much cheaper.  Or you could just buy a Turbo Everdrive, which would allow you to play it (in English) while still having the Japanese version to fill the hole in your collection.  So anyone who is willing to spend $5k on a game is either:

A: Filthy Rich.
B: Incredibly irresponsible.
C: Speculating.

Unless you're "A", you aren't going to get much play here.  As has already been pointed out to you, we tend to resent people like you for the reason that I and others have already stated.  You would be better off taking your request somewhere like the Neo-Geo forums, or just wait until one pops up on eBay.
I can respect that. Turbo/PCE are my favorite consoles and I would truthfully rather be around here with the people that love the system as well . Sorry if my crazy offer offended anyone because that was not my intention in any way. Fuck the MC, I'll be around here for the posting of other shit, but I'll let this die.

Which if I could, then it would be a good investment. Fortunately, I don't have to sell shit because I don't need the money. If something were to happen and it depended on the wellness of my family, then fuck yes I would sell it. But it would be sold at a loss if need be as well. I just played the Japanese version because I got it in today. It's pretty good gameplay wise, but I can't obviously read any of it. Again, it's easy to sit here and talk shit, but if you actually knew me personally, you would respect the things I do. Don't pretend to know me bud, because you don't.

B: If you have 5 grand burning a hole in your pocket, put it towards your mortgage.  Or put it in a mutual fund.  Or fucking save it for an emergency.  I'm sorry guy, but anyone who is actively trying to spend $5000 on a video game is in no position to call anyone else's intelligence into question.  And if you knew absolutely DICK about this community, you would have known from the get-go that trying to buy that game here with your 40 posts in 5 1/2 years was a dead end.
My financial situation is great. I don't need tips from you, but thanks anyway. You know why I have the money to spend? Because I have no vices other than video games. I buy to play but even if the games suck, I keep them. I'm one game away for the complete us hucard collection and it happens to be the most expensive one. What do you want me to do to get it? You can stand in line....I'm going to buy it soon.

What are you going to do, WildoDildo?  Stick a gat in someone's face again?  You should go back to lurking; it's better for all of us.

And LOL @ "I need it".  The fiscal irresponsibility demonstrated by today's youngin's is staggering.  Just because you have the ability to pay for something does not mean that you can "afford" it or should buy it.  And please trust me when I tell you that no one here is going to sell you that game.  First of all, get the fuck in line.  Second, no one here is going to sell it to someone who just wants it for shelf-candy, especially when that person is some lurking poser who only collects Turbo shit to be incrementally cooler than their too-cool-for-school friends who think that they're being "different" for playing NES instead of modern games.

Fucking hipsters.  Only thing worse is a hipster with a high-limit credit card and an entry-level middle-class job,  which I'm sure is what Mr. Moneybags here has.

I dealt with him quite a few times before and never had a problem. I recently offered him $200 for his MC and he countered with $330 + $12 shipping and stated that he wouldn't go any lower. Nowhere near the deals I used to get from him!
