Hahahaha listen to yourself dude. Really. You sound like a girl on the rag. You can't handle anyone criticizing your obsession, can you? When I read the kind of vitriol you and others on here were spewing forth over someone's opinion I just had to play devil's advocate. It really sounds like you are more pissed off at yourself and your addiction than at anyone else. Otherwise, why take it so personal? Why get so offended? So someone calls into question whether it's healthy to collect stuff. SO FUCKIN WHAT? Half the people on here have to get their panties twisted over it? You act like someone said something about your mom. Step back from the ledge, dude.

I've spent a lot of money on collecting. But I'm not going to pretend like it's healthy. If I didn't buy another game today I'd have enough games to play til I die. Yet I still buy more. That's called obsession. You're only deluding yourself when you make excuses like this and attack people for pointing it out. Get a grip.
#2
Seriously, guys, there's nothing noble about spending a shit-ton of money on one game. You're just pissed because someone pointed it out. Not everybody has a "collector" mentality, and to be perfectly frank, that mentality ISN'T healthy. It's your money, and you're free to do with it as you please. The KLF burned a million pounds, you guys throw a several hundred away on one game. You're free to do it, but don't delude yourself into thinking it isn't wasteful, even forgetting all the actually noble things you could be doing with that money. This will never make sense to anyone who doesn't share your "unhealthy" obsession. There's no amount of whining about free will, collectability, or "I wanna play it"-ness that is going to convince someone else that's it's a good idea to spend $200-500 on a piece of plastic, particularly when it's only true value is for collection purposes. It's hard to fathom how someone would spend $200 on Panzer Dragoon Saga, but at least in that case it's a game that you can't get anywhere else by any other means.

I'd be willing to bet there are collector attitudes that piss you guys off as well. The person that has to have all sealed games or the guy that buys up ten copies of that incredibly rare title just to stick it on the shelf. The deeper you get into collecting, the stranger the behavior looks from the outside. Justify it to yourself, but it isn't ever going to make sense to anyone else. That's because it really DOESN'T make sense, and if you could step back and take a look at it objectively, you'd see that. What difference does it make whether it appreciates in value or not. You're not buying it to some day resell it at a higher value. And if you never buy it, it's not any great loss, so who cares what price it's at in some hypothetical future? The only person who cares about these things is the person who's goal it is to resell.

Please realize, I'm not actually knocking any of you guys for wanting this game, or for shelling out the cash for it. I just think that your rationalization is a bunch of b.s. It sounds more like you're trying to convince yourselves than anyone else. You're the alcoholic claiming you don't have a problem, trying to explain to sober judges why there's nothing wrong with your drinking. It really doesn't matter in the end, tho. We all have our addictions and our vices. Just don't think you'll convince anyone that it isn't a vice.

Why didn't you just file an SNAD claim with Paypal and get your cash back?

SHAME ON YOU!!!  [-X [-X
How now, the Genesis rocks! Don't buy into Johnny Turbo's lies. :D
#5
LOL. I guess I don't feel as bad having bought something similar for around $80 shipped. I can't get the thing to work either. XD

Some recent acquisitions:

Shin Seikoku: La Wares (complete in box) - Super Fami
Silent Hill Homecoming - Xbox 360
Infinite Undiscovery - Xbox 360
Sakura Taisen Limited Edition A-Type - Saturn
Might and Magic: Gate to Another World (complete in box) - Sega Genesis
Spectral Tower - Playstation
Princess Minerva - PC Engine CD
Faerie Dust Story - PC Engine CD

These are just the games I've bought for my own collection, not to resell or trade. I'm still waiting on a couple games to arrive in the mail, too.

It's WA 98105. A friend of mine who I trade with was telling me on the phone some stuff he had that he wanted to get rid of and one of the things was "Dragon Slayer," tho he was actually saying "Dragon's Lair" and I couldn't understand him. Smacked my forehead when I finally went over to his house.
#8
Any idea how much shipping on the Intellivision would run? I'm also interested in snagging Killer 7. BTW, what is that game you have listed under Sega CD as "Dragon Slayer"? Do you mean Dragon's Lair? As far as I can tell, there's no game called "Dragon Slayer" for the Sega CD, unless it's the Japanese title of something that was released in NA under a different name.
#9
I'm having this problem myself, but with PCE CD games. But its probably worse for me since I'm just starting my collection. I think I'm getting to the point now tho where I need to stop buying and just PLAY THE DAMN GAMES ALREADY. And maybe that's just how you have to approach it. If you keep looking for deals, you're going to find them. So instead of looking every day, play the game you just got for awhile until you're tired of playing it, then look for more stuff.
#10
I think many if not most collectors would be hard-pressed to pony up the cash for an auction like that without reselling a chunk of it at least. If you collect for the system and would put down that much money, you likely already have several of the games. So it's not surprising that that lot was bought by a reseller: they're the ones with both the capital and the desire to spend the money on a large lot like that.

But maybe I'm just talkin out mah butt.
#11
Unless I'm mistaken about the store a) having the game, and b) pricing it at $20, I will probably pick up the game regardless.
#12
^ Yeah for the price of this game, there are at least three or four rare US releases I could get that I'd actually rather have and play. (Dungeon Explorer II and Dragon Slayer leap immediately to mind.) If I was actually working on getting a full collection and I already had those other games, that would be another story.
#13
You have some stuff I'd trade for. I just wanted to know the value of those games cuz it wouldn't make sense for me to buy something for $20 just to trade it for $20 worth of stuff, if you see what I mean.
#14
Wow, seriously, I posted my offer like two days ago. :D
#15
Quote from: nectarsis on 11/24/2008, 12:52 AMLOng nosed around $40, and Hany $10-15 tops
I'll have to pick up Long Nosed Goblin then as I think it was priced $20.
#16
I can pick up Long-Nosed Goblin and Hany in the Sky for you if the place near me has them at a good price. What do they generally run?
#17
I'm really glad you're getting to keep your collection; it's a really sad day when a collector has to give up their "babies." I've been there a couple times, most recently when I moved out to Seattle. I always end up getting three times the game back in the end tho. :D
#18
I voted for $30 b/c the only way I'd buy it is if I found someone who had no idea of it's true value and accordingly I doubt they'd even ask for $30 let alone more.  :-"
#19
Quote from: bb_hood on 11/23/2008, 08:30 PMAnd why would you buy delivery conformation on something you would be giving away?
Because the post office does genuinely lose packages from time to time. I don't send anything to anyone without delivery confirmation if it's within the US or APO.
#20
Yeah, you're right. I'm not trying to be an ass about this, and I truly am sorry for what he's going through and really don't want to add on top of it by being a dick.
#21
That really sucks, and I can definitely understand why you'd put your collection up for that price, but seriously, you can't understand why people on here ridiculed that auction? You yourself are a collector. You're not sick of people trying to price gouge on TG16/PCE games? There are too many truly slimy people out there whose only goal is to drive the prices up, buying and reselling rare games. You might think, well it's just one auction, who cares? But it's auctions that sell that set the price of these games. Maybe there really is no crime in ripping off people who are too lazy or dumb to figure out what the actual "value" of these games are, but that kind of thinking hurts everyone.

Furthermore, you said two things in the auction which are absurd and laughable. You want a huge amount of money for something that isn't worth that much, and you wouldn't retake photos of it. No one on here knows why besides what you put in the auction, so of course that sounds pretty damn cocky. Then you lied and said you threw away boxes that you now say you just wanted to keep. Step back from your own problems and reasons for listing this auction and think about it: You want twice or more for your stuff than what it's worth, you refuse to retake pics, and you threw away the outer boxes, according to what you wrote in your auction. You sound like a yahoo. Probably if you had simply said "I had a bad accident happen to me and now I have a lot of bills I need to pay. I don't want to sell this stuff, but I"m forced to by a set of circumstances I have no control over. I'm not able to retake photos of these items, so be aware that the outer boxes are not included." Anything along those lines would have given any of us pause to think. But how you put yourself across in the auction is what caused the ridicule. Reread what you wrote and don't think about your own circumstances and then think how that would sound to anyone who doesn't know what you're going through.
#22
Not what I told you at all. I said I'd rather give it to someone who posts here, but if no one else claims it in a couple days, you could have it. I'm not making anything on this, I'm probably going to lose half a buck with postage/envelope/delivery confirmation/Paypal fees. Now you want to complain about having to wait a couple days for something for free?  :-k

NO BRAVOMAN CASE FOR YOU!
#23
Like the title says, I'm giving away a case & manual to Bravoman (US Hu Card release) to anyone who wants it. Just pay for shipping ($4?) or trade me something of equal value ($4). Cool? It's in pretty good condition and all that jazz. Tired of holding onto it.
#24
What about one of them for $45? Or the two of them for $85? Remember that while the base price is $30, there's still tax and shipping, so I really am not getting much out of doing this. But it's getting to the point now where I'll end up w/ enough cash to just buy them myself. I've been debating this whole thing for awhile, ever since I first saw the games. Part of me really wants to just buy all three and keep em, another part of me wants to buy all three and sell them for close to double what I paid, and another part wants to buy them and sell them a couple for what I paid for them (as a purely altruistic act). So my offer to you is kinda like trying to appease all those desires. When I was broke, I couldn't even think about buying them for myself and just keeping em, even tho that's the first and most major thing that I wanted to do. The businessman in me, on hearing their value, badly wants to just buy them to resell. I dunno what I'm really going to do about it. I'm probably going to see if I can haggle for a lower price, but this store usually charges insane prices for anything. I dunno. XD
#25
I wanted to give you guys first shot at the sealed 360 games, save $10 off store price, but I'm going to put them up on Amazon now if no one wants em.
#26
I have a complete in box Turbo Booster, but would want $70 shipped for it. I could take partial trade/partial cash for it tho.
#27
I recently got a ton of sleeves in a huge lot I purchased, so I'm good for now. :D
#28
It seriously depends on the age. Most kids younger than 13 (and in particular, ones younger than 8) are impressed by and have fun with games like the original Sonic, Tetris/Columns/Puyo Puyo, and the Bonk games. So it depends on what age we're talking.

Older than that, Splatterhouse and Dracula X have made converts out of a lot of disbelievers. Most adults don't need to be converted, they grew up with games like the ones on the PCE, and are impressed when told that the system came out as a rival to the NES.
#29
I just got a bunch of stuff in a bundle and want to sell the things I don't want... or in the case of Dead Space, sell some stuff so I can make back the money I spent. XD

Brand New Factory Sealed Xbox 360 Games - $50 shipped each
Dead Space
Guilty Gear 2 Overture

Japanese PS2 Games (complete) - $15 each shipped
Ace Combat 5 The Unsung War (brand new sealed)
Shinobi
BuileBaku
Flying Circus RC Copter Adventure Championship
#30
Yeah that's really lucky. I've only got like... Zonk, R-Type, Darkwing Duck (is that it?), Bonk's Adventure, Veigues, and a couple others for around $60.
#31
I have a lot of luck with Craigslist, but I almost NEVER see TG16/PCE stuff on there. ONCE there was a guy selling a Duo-R (I think) and a couple games including Dracula X, but he wanted like $400 or more for it! The only other thing is a couple TG-16 bundles. But I've been using CL for years now and have seen like three ads total. (Besides my own.)
#32
They are selling for $30+ tax. As I said above, I wanted to sell two of them so I could keep one. I'm not trying to cheat to you or anything. If they're worth $60, you'll get a reduced price on them and I'll get one close to free. Everyone wins. I know... I could be altruistic about it... but frankly, I really want one of these games and I don't have the cash for it. If you think I'm being an asshole because of it, I understand, but realize I'm not trying to make a profit, really, just enjoy a game I wouldn't be able to otherwise. So it's up to you.
#33
Yeah, throwing out boxes is something you do when you're a kid, not an adult tho. Those boxes = money, for one thing, but a collector would value them regardless of a price tag.
#34
Quote from: nectarsis on 11/20/2008, 01:51 AMHe's actually been a member here for awhile now.
Who, Gekiohshootingking? Don't care, I just call em how I see em. Those games are not worth that much individually, let alone as a set (which should be less, not more), and the two things I mentioned are awful. Tell me throwing away the outer boxes isn't bad, let alone asking an arm and a leg for something and then saying you won't take new photos of it.
#35
He's insane. If the price didn't tell you that, the bits about how he tossed out the outer boxes to make room and how he doesn't want to take the pics all over again. He wants how much money and he's too lazy to take new pics?! WTF?!
#36
Ok well you can either Paypal me the cash to pick them up or wait til I have extra money to pick them up myself. How does $45 each sound? (That's shipped, Priority Mail in bubble wrap and a box w/ dc & insurance.)
#37
I don't think there's any actual rabbits involved. It looks to be more like girl on girl BDSM from what I've seen. You get a row of various implements of pleasure/torture and have to figure out when to best use each one for maximum benefit.

So the person who created the character shouldn't have any say in which actor embodied the traits of his character the best?

The author, who's name escapes me at the moment, has gone on record as saying that Sean Connor best embodies what he had in mind for Bond, that is a man who straddles a fine line between being refined and being an animal, the kind of guy who's a misogynist and uses women for sex, and looks cool doing it. Bond is meant to be an anti-hero. It's why Brosnan and Craig aren't really Bond. The films with them in it may or may not be good movies (haven't seen em, so I can't make a personal opinion), but are probably not real Bond movies. I mean, unless Craig is boning spies then shooting em in the head, and I kinda don't think that's happening.
#40
Good lord, I had no idea there were so many of these games! I know they had the Sailor Z one, and they had one that had a 2 at the end of it. Maybe next month when I get more money I'll go pick them up. I <3 yuri hentai.... erm.. *sweatdrop*
#41

Couldn't vote because someone forgot to include Mike Meyer in the options.  :)
#43
Ugh, I see what you mean! It's forcing me to act like I'm downloading something every time I try a link. XD Well, that blows. (I'm at home and using Firefox now, case you were wondering.)
#44
Not sure what browser you guys are using, there were only a few links that opened in a seperate window for me. The CD section has all the reviews in it, and I don't remember it opening in a new window or not working or anything like that. They have a lot of reviews, but I read half of em in like... half an hour. They're pretty short.
#45
I just found a cool site for reviews here. The reviews are all short, but they have a bunch of screenshots with them, which is nice.
#46
Welcome to the forums, I'm sure you'll have a grea time here. :)
#47
Yeah, those are the ones I mean, and actually there are three of em (both at the store AND in total for the PCE unless I'm mistaken). Is anyone else interested in these? If they're worth $60 I might just pick em up and sell off two of em and keep the other. :D
#48
Uh oh, got caught!  :^o

Seriously, tho, I have had a little while with the game on my PSP after I first wrote this topic (but before I put the game up on gamegavel). It LOOKS like a lot of fun, but I don't understand a lick of Japanese, and after not being able to answer the phone, I gave up. At any rate, I have it on my PSP so if I want to play it later I can. I'd prefer to keep all the games I have and not play emulated versions, but it's sometimes not possible. (I don't have a jpn PS1 or 2 console, I am keeping a few PS1 imports, but can't keep all of em.)
#49
There's a store by my house that is selling these two games, but I have no idea what their value is. I never see em. So anyone on here know?
#50
Yeah, I think the system card that came w/ the busted tg cd is 2.0. I was thinking about getting an arcade card for myself and giving him my 3.0, but I remembered that it wouldn't be compatible b/c I have a PCE and he has a TG-16 so... I'll have to figure something out on that front.
