Picked up Namco Museum 50th Anniversary, SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1, and Atari Anthology for PS2 today. No pictures because I figure you guys are probably sick of my PS2 collections by now.

EDIT: Holy shit, there's a JESUS game for MSX?? Rock on, Prince of Peace!

More collections. I CAN'T HELP MYSELF!

/midwaysfd1.jpg

Also, I find it mildly funny that volume 1 is rated T and volume 2 is rated M. Mildly funny.

Another PS2 anthology! (Featuring Totally Awesome '80s Tunes!)

/activisionby1.jpg

EDIT: One of the main reasons I got it was to be able to play Atari games in component without some crazy mod (if that's even possible). Lulz.

lol..never heard about velveeta, but it seems to be made by a swiss immigrant in new york^^. not every cheese has to have holes. it depends on the procedure the cheese went through.
But..... where are the holes?  :-s

Man, I'm so confused now. So many questions...

Okay, maybe I have a crappy cable. If so, what kind should I get? I don't see any official Dreamcast S-video cables on eBay. A "gold plated" one? Or maybe the Dreamcast just looks all checkerboardy and crappy through S-video just on this specific TV? Could it be the comb filter on the TV? I guess I'll start searching for an official Dreamcast cable and in the meantime unhook and move my SNES and try it through my TV's S-video.

Urgh!  :?

Quote from: SNKNostalgia on 12/02/2008, 06:31 PMTry Racketboy.com and get the VGA box for $23. It has a built in S-video plug and RCA A/V jacks. You can use your standard S-video and RCA cables. Also, you get the bonus of VGA for computer monitor or HDTV use.

BTW. The S-video of the Dreamcast really isn't that great. It does have dot crawl and checkered look to it a little. The Saturn on the other hand has perfect S-video. I never could understand why this is so.
Thanks for the tip! Gonna check out that VGA box right now.

Has anyone else experienced this dot crawl/checkered/crappy look to Dreamcast S-video?

QuoteI have had too much stuff arrive over past few weeks, so here are some basic pics of some of it. I simply dont have the time to take pics of everything right now, and more stuff is still on the way too, Joe figures, Ghost in the Shell CAV LD, ect.
Damn, could they get any lower-cut on that low-cut Lady Jaye shirt?

(I hope so. She was one of my faves back in the day. Remember the episode where she got shrunk and.... nevermind.)
#12
Hrm. Any advice as to which kind of cable I should use then? Did Sega make an official one with S-Video?

Also, no, I don't have an HDTV . I'm using a 29" flat screen Hitachi. I dug around the internets a bit and... could it be a comb filter problem? I'm grasping at straws here.

Thanks for the reply!
#13
Anybody know why this might be? For instance, the red Dreamcast ball in the startup logo looks checkered instead of fuzzy and blurry as usual.

Could it be a shoddy cable? The games (I tested with Mars Matrix and Rayman 2 so far)? The TV?

HALP!  ](*,)

All they need to do is station one employee outside with a megaphone telling the crowd to get in a single file line and enter slowly. If they won't do it, refer them to the trampling death news stories. If they still won't do it, spray the white trash bastards down with a fucking fire hose.
#15
QuoteIt is going to be quite hard for the NYPD to indentify the hundreds in that crowd dude.
They should just round 'em all up and shoot 'em. I mean, I go to Wal-Mart occasionally, but I'm not the type of person that camps out at 3AM in front of the store to get a better deal on a fucking Hannah Montana CD or whatever. I'll bet there wasn't one worthwhile person in the bunch.

Okay, I'll give them a little break. Shoot them all in the kneecaps. At least that way maybe they won't be as good at trampling in the future.

My three main musical gods are Mark E. Smith (The Fall), Frank Zappa, and Tom Jenkinson (Squarepusher).

Now I'm just gonna do what every other music jerk on the interwebs does and vomit out a big list of my favorite bands:

The Soft Boys, XTC, Wire, Guided By Voices, Gang of Four, Velvet Underground, Pixies, Aphex Twin, Secret Chiefs 3, Robyn Hitchcock, Trans Am, Don Caballero, Battles, The Fucking Champs, Mum, Mouse on Mars, Husker Du, The Smiths, Morrissey, Olivia Tremor Control, Kraftwerk, Yes, The Stooges, Autechre, Boredoms, Minibosses, Edgard Varese, Public Enemy, Swell Maps, Talking Heads, The Frogs, The Kinks, Ween, Negativland, Captain Beefheart, Liquid Liquid, Suicide, !!!, Polvo, etc.

Also, big ups to chip music purveyors.
#17
Yup. What's crazy is that they opened the store again a few hours after it happened. They should've shut it down for a few days at least to punish the filthy savages with Wal-Mart withdrawals.
#18
I think the unedited version looks best. Why blur it? Reminds me of those blurry, smeary filters on some emulators.

QuoteIf you cut the Commodore in half exactly where than line runs by the CD door, the right side looks like an old-school answering machine.
Hahaha, good eye! Old answering machines are the bane of my existence. When I'm digging through thrift stores, they always look like they might be something interesting from afar... then you get up close and you're like, "Aw, shit."  #-o

Also, NO ONE buys them. What's the point these days? They're not even collectible! Get 'em off the shelves and put more dusty old consoles out, dammit!
#28
Okay, I went by the local thrift stores as usual this morning. Picked up Ice Hockey and a duplicate Rad Racer for NES, but I also found this:

I can hardly find any info about these things on the net, apart from one decent site. There are no current or completed listings for them on eBay. Anyone ever seen 'em before?

This is a great idea for a thread! I'm sure some of you have heard "Link, He Come to Town" that puts lyrics to the Legend of Zelda theme music...
Link, he come to town
Come to save
The princess Zelda
Ganon took her away
So now the children no play
But they will
When Link saves the day
Halelujah!
Now Link,
Fill up your hearts
So you can shoot
Your sword with power
And when you're feeling all down
The fairy will come around
So you'll be brave
And not a
Sissy coward

Now Link
Has saved the day
Put Ganon
In his grave
And now Zelda is free
And our hero shall be
Link
I think your name shall go down into history!

Don't they just seem to... go together? Two awesome, underrated systems. Side by side in harmony. And to think their parent companies were once bitter enemies in the great 16-bit console wars.

Can you imagine the baby console these two would make together? It would be the Console Christ-child!

Duo_R to the rescue again!

Yup, it's a doujindance system. Do you know exactly which Rat Shack/Wal-Mart adapter I should get? I only ask because I wanna make sure I get one that actually fits the jack on the back of the system...

So you think the new adapter will fix the "loose" power supply jack issue?
#39
A few issues...

1. I just noticed that the power supply that came with my Duo-R is a 10v Sega power supply. I believe the Duo-R takes a 9v. Is this... bad? If so, what's the best replacement AC adaptor that can be found cheap at, say, Radio Shack? (The unit has been working fine, btw.)

2. The unit doesn't power on unless I "re-seat" the AC adaptor plug in it's socket. What usually works best is pushing it to one side or the other. What's the best fix for this? Will buying a new, proper AC adaptor help or is this another open-up-the-case deal?

Welcome all thoughts and suggestions. Thanks!   :)

I know it's not exactly a video game purchase, but I bought a TV from a guy on Craigslist today on my lunch break. The reason I mention it is because my recent Duo-R w/RGB mod purchase is what inspired me to get a new TV in the first place. I'm almost ashamed to post the specs of my old TV:

OLD
19 inch
off brand "Orion"
only one plug on the back: coaxial

Yes, I've been plugging all my consoles into an RF-to-composite/S-Video converter from Radio Shack for years now.

NEW
29 inch
Hitachi
Component, S-Video, coaxial, two AV ins, one AV out, etc. etc.

The guy I bought it from was moving back to Seattle and wanted to get it off his hands, so he sold it to me for $99. I told him he didn't have to give me a dollar back when I handed him five twenties.  :)

Back in the early 90's, me and a friend who also had a TG16 took turns playing JJ & Jeff (we'd give the controller to the other guy when we died or beat a level) hoping that both of us together could beat it since neither of us could do it solo. We were on one of the final stages and doing pretty damn good until one of us accidentally fell onto a green spring that WARPS YOU ALL THE WAY BACK TO ONE OF THE FIRST FUCKING LEVELS!!

Anyway, after what was surely an epic stream of curse words, we bit the bullet and started working our way back to the end again. This time we managed to avoid the spring and finish off the game.

I don't even remember the ending, but I'll always remember that fucking green spring.

Quote from: nectarsis on 11/09/2008, 11:26 PMJust went to a Play N Trade up here, same deal.MAYBE 10-15 SNES and Genseis loose carts, everything else newest system stuff.
That sucks, Nectarsis. I'm hoping it's just because they're relatively new and haven't had time to accumulate a decent selection of old stuff through trade-ins and whatnot.

Also, I had no idea these guys were a national franchise. I thought they were just a new local place that opened up in the wake of Game Trader, but then I read your post... and when I search for video game stores in Louisiana on Google, a bunch of them pop up in different cities all around here. Interesting.
#44
Holy crap, BT, that PBS special on CD-ROM technology with the real-life Johnny Turbo was priceless!
#45
LOL PCE Hell. Seriously, though. Does anyone know who drew these things? I don't really plan on doing anything with the information, I just have this insatiable appetite for useless trivia.

Here in New Orleans, besides the thrift stores, we've only had a place called The Game Trader for our retro gaming needs for years now. One location in Esplanade Mall in Kenner, one in Lakeside mall in Metairie, and one about 20 minutes away in Laplace. They were always on the expensive side of things, but they *only* sold/traded classic games and systems (none of that new crap), usually had a good selection, serviced broken consoles and were good for when you needed a quick fix and didn't feel like waiting a week for a for a game to arrive from a better deal you found online. But then....

I went to Lakeside Mall on my lunch break about a month ago and found that Game Trader was totally gone. Just completely closed down and emptied out with no notes or anything. Fearing the worst, I went to the Esplanade. Same situation. I haven't checked out the one in Laplace yet, but I suspect it's gone as well. Their website (http://thegametrader.com/) has also gone 404. Their high prices may have pissed me off, but they were our ONLY local, "brick and mortar" classic gaming resource.  ](*,)

There is a little hope, however. There's a new retro gaming shop in Kenner on Williams Ave. called Play N Trade. I went there the other day and... well, their selection of actual classic stuff is pretty spare and much of the wall space is dedicated to used next-gen games for sale/trade. No TG16 stuff to speak of. Still, I'll give them a while to establish themselves and check back in a few months to see how things are going. I did pick up a boxed NES Max controller for $3.99 while I was there. Couldn't help myself. (I loved the controller as a kid, but now I find it almost unusable...)

Anyway, that's all I've got. If ANYONE out there reading this is from or near the New Orleans area and you know of some other retro gaming store I'm unaware of, PLEASE speak up and correct me! I will be eternally grateful to you! I secretly hope that there's some place I just don't know about...

Incidentally, I'm a huge thrift store hound and I've never come across anything TG16-related in either New Orleans or Baton Rouge area stores since I started regularly haunting them in about 2004. Weak. :( I had hopes for the Baton Rouge area since that's where I grew up and I know of three people besides myself who had a TG16 growing up there. I know that doesn't seem like a lot (everyone I knew had an NES), but most people's childhood TG16 stories involve their being the one oddball kid in the whole city with a Turbo system.

1. Who drew the Johnny Turbo ads? What else has he done?

2a. Who gave the go-ahead to a fat neckbeard in a green jumpsuit as a company mascot?
2b. Is he now doing time for the above offense?

Thank you for your time.  :-({|=

Quote from: ceti alpha on 11/09/2008, 09:16 PMVery nifty.  8) Though I'm not sure I'd want to live in Blade Runner world. Then again....

Where's your toolbar? You keep it hidden?
I have a deep love for dense, futuristic cityscapes. Maybe it comes from growing up in south Louisiana with all the petrochemical plants that looks like tiny metropolises at night. It's funny you mention Blade Runner, though. I've often hoped, since first seeing it back in the early 90s, that I live long enough to experience a future like that. I know it's dystopian, but it's just so visually appealing! Not to mention the pervasiveness of technology of all sorts. I can just imagine walking into a tiny retro electronics shop - with hanging, naked lightbulbs and chiptunes playing over the speakers - in some dark, rainy alley in a future megalopolis in 2050 and finding and old TurboDuo there.

I dunno, though... to me this picture looks friendly and inviting. Maybe it looks different because I shrunk it. I can provide the original full-size if anyone is interested.

Yeah, I always "Auto-hide the toolbar." I kinda assumed most people did that (who wants an ugly bar at the bottom that reduces your viewing space?) until I learned from real-world experience that I was in the minority.
