10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

i only picked three because i couldn't choose between the 4th...

votes went to SNES, Sega Saturn, SNK Neo Geo and the 4th is tie over Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast and Playstation.

QuoteSome of you may wonder what inspires a healthy man to take pictures—on a gorgeous autumn day—of his 20 year-old video game console.
QuoteA few of my neighboors stole glances as I, clad in boxers and t-shirt only, tenderly snapped photos. Soon, I was lying flat on my stomach, experimenting with different angles and compositions. Dedicated to my craft and with full allegiance to my mission, I slithered on the deck, my body intimate with the composite wood planks.

well i can't say its ugly, but it does have its own unique appeal. the hucards make it a very distinct system which i think has a positive effect on the overall aesthetic property. i dont think i will understand why they re-designed it to be so big though. the whole idea of taking up more space because we can argument doesnt really make sense to me. i like the sega cdx and the model 2 snes. both were compact and maintained the original functions.

not sure i understand about the Magic Knight Rayearth game. how is the disc broken?

i sent PM for a game a while back, but didn't get a reply, so you might want to send an email.

i also have one available (Turbo Booster) that is attached to a TG-16 unit.

Quote from: Fatality on 08/08/2009, 04:24 PMNo PS3 or 360  JK man. What are you interested in? I have a lot of NES and N64 games I'm willing to trade for Art of Fighting 2. You have a Wii? I have a couple games for that, but not to many.
yea, living without any of the current generation consoles has been a great way to catch up on the games i really love and grew up playing :D. no ps3 or 360 for me. no wii either until probably monster hunter 3.

anyways, if you can list the NES and N64 games you have for trade, it's possible i might be interested or i might not. all depends on the games  :-k i'm not really looking for quantity but quality.

edit: updated first post with new info., games, prices

Quote from: Fatality on 08/08/2009, 02:43 AMHey I am willing to trade for Art of Fighting 2? I really don't have any PC Engine games or merchandise but I do have a bunch of PS3 and 360 games that I could trade. Just name a game and I'll tell you if I have it because I'm kind of lazy to post all the games I have  I'd buy Art of Fighting 2 off you straight up, but I've seen it for around $35 on ebay.
hello & thanks for the interest.

i dont own a PS3 or 360, so unfortunately i couldn't trade for those type of games. and while it's true Art of Fighting 2 has gone for the price you say, it was most likely the Japanese version. the original US one is a bit more rare and therefore is reflected in the price.

didn't receive PM reply, so i'm guessing there wasn't any interest in any of this stuff. i have put prices on everything so hopefully i can sell them and use money towards PC engine goodies.
#9
yea that's rather ridiculous.. he only bought it less than a month ago. this poor game landed in the hands of a reseller and now it's only being used.
#10
ah, the warm glow of arcade screens.. what a nice look and feel. congrats on the pick-ups   :)

well i do know you can play the Neo CD games in a CD player to hear the music tracks. so there is redbook audio but i'm not sure if anything extra is added beyond that.

by the way, i thought i'd share how SNK spells ultimate

i had a situation with eStarland too. i was looking for the US version of Magician Lord for Neo-geo CD and their item description said it was. i even emailed them to double check and they told me it was the US version. sure enough when i received the game, it was the Japanese version. it's pretty obvious when the title of the game is in Japanese. i thought that was pretty dumb of them even after i specifically asked through an email and saw their item description on the website.

i mailed the game back and got a refund through paypal, but i send it by media mail which is what they ask so i could also be reimbursed for shipping, but they never did. it really annoying when you have to tell a company how to operate their business, when they don't follow through the first time. it was only a small amount of money so i let it go because to me it wasn't worth the hassle of informing these people of their mistakes (it took about 3 weeks just to get a $29 refund for the game). i just took it as a lesson learned. i definitely won't buy from them again. i dont care about the good price or rarity of the game.

i'm glad others may have had a better experience, but i wasn't too happy.

perhaps it was a way for capcom to fit the game on those home systems, saving the game's overall integrity from the arcade version.

yea i'm a first time owner so it's a good feeling to own something a little different. thanks everyone

i will check out some stores and it seems there's the occasional chance to pick up some great stuff here too.

Quote from: nectarsis on 07/24/2009, 05:18 PMOuch indeed.  As the box wasn't factory sealed honestly you have no REAL idea if this is BRAND NEW, or their damn good at resealing the system.
well the only reason i trusted the seller as selling a genuinely new article is because i've bought from him before. he's given me generous deals outside of ebay (giving me a list of what he was going to put up for sale before they went up for auction). i also bought a new neo geo cdz from him at one time. he's sort of a collector himself.

but in a way, you're absolutely right. is there anything i can check to verify once i get the system that it is brand new?

Quote from: nat on 07/24/2009, 06:11 PMI still have Der Langrisser FX for sale, and I'd love to sell it to you. It's loose (disc only) but working.
i might be interested if it's cheap and mostly scratch-free! i just spent a lot of money, so i dont think i should spend a whole lot more at this point . i must ration out my selfish gift-givings. could you pm a price and condition?
#17
hey everybody! i decided to get a PC-FX

and i got a brand new one too! i'm very excited. bought it from a great seller on ebay who i've dealt with before. he's a real good guy and helps you out. here's my new PC-FX: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290327639697

so i got a brand new system for $245 (before shipping). i think it's probably a good deal since finding a new one is difficult. i can be sure it hasn't been beat up or whatever else. i take very good care of my game stuff so this won't be any different.

now i need some games!

can anyone give me a good place to shop online for PC-FX games? Risingstuff is one that has been mentioned before. any others?

Quote from: Grandmaster on 07/21/2009, 05:35 AMi know that's like 80% of the games
I know I sound like a broken record correcting people on this, but Hentai games comprise like 4% of the PC-FX library.
after going through the pc-fx database and game overviews, i pleasantly realized you are right! it's good news because even though the library is small, there seems to be an interesting selection of games. of course some of the ones that interest me are the most are high-priced  #-o.

Quote from: Grandmaster on 07/21/2009, 07:20 PMcool, thanks. i will keep an eye out for your suggestions.

how much should a new pc-fx system go for these days?
hmmm boxed about 120 or so, unboxed 90 or so?

Check out Risingstuff.  Theyre pretty reasonable with em.
that's not a bad price at all. however i was hoping to score a brand new one if possible :D

i could be wrong, but i think the uni-bios is for the home cartridge/consolized mvs. i guess the most you can do with a NGCD is play it in english or japanese, which means you can't have blood and english text at the same time. its one or the other. or maybe no one has really messed with the idea of installing a uni-bios component on a NGCD before.
#20
the bottom part of that page is a boogerman ad . kinda gross.

i remember egm 2 though...  pretty good magazine, or maybe it was just a great time for video games in general and there was so much to cover in emerging gaming technology.

Quote from: nat on 06/13/2009, 03:42 PMHere's a vid of the opening FMV cinema of the game Zenki: Vajura Fight as well as a playthrough of one level with one of the characters.
i saw a copy of this in an ebay store and they're selling it for $350. is that reasonable for a pc-fx game??

i was thinking about getting a pc-fx, but of course i would need fun games to play that doesnt have any sexual themes attached to it. i know that's like 80% of the games, but Zenki: Vajura Fight looks perfect. any others?
#23
what happened with that little patch spot on the NGCD?

i think you are doing great work by the way. region-switching should be simple and neat like the ones you have here.
#24
that stuff did go quick... and i'm too slow  ](*,)

ive been hoping i could find a working cd unit attachement.
#25
i got 3 N64 carts - Chameleon Twist, Mischief Makers and Turok.. happy about those  :)

but i'm really happy about this little gem. it gets mixed opinions from people, but i think it's very fun!

well that would make more sense now then, wouldn't it?  #-o

sorry

pretty cool because there's so many games and a few other cool things, but i'm surprised at how unremarkable and unkept it is. water spots all over the ceiling panels and cords hanging down in various places. doesnt look like it's been used in forever.

lol. smash bros. commercial is funny. yoshi kicks mario for revenge and kicks pikachu for not helping him when he was being double teamed.

Quote from: Mathius on 06/09/2009, 04:46 PMToday down at McVan's Video Games in Indianapolis I scored a sealed copy of Shape Shifter for $35. They also had a sealed Prince of Persia for the same price but can't afford it this week. So, with the Twin Famicom and Shape Shifter it's been a very good week :D
which mcvans? i have been to the one in fishers when it was there and in broad ripple which is the store's current location. im not sure how i feel about them really since ive had some annoying experiences there, but they are pretty much the only place i know of that sells older games.
#30
wow, the price on this thing is incredible  #-o

what is the story behind this game? i see that it's developed by quest who did the ogre battle games so it seems like a departure if it's a shooting game which is interesting. did it have a super low print run or something?

thanks, lol, i'd love to!

i'd like to know more about these duo-r and duo-rx systems. im not really worried about space so i wouldnt mind getting one of those and a turbografx 16 to play US hucards. that sounds like the best option for me in terms of cost and reliability too i hope.

were there any internal changes between the duo-r and rx? is it nothing more than a different controller pack in?
#32
thanks for the information so far everyone.

i am still a little unsure though. there are so many different systems out  :-s.

the Duo-R and RX are the same? what would make NEC release the RX if it wasnt any different than the Duo-R? can the duo systems play US hucards?

what is the super grafx system?

what is the pc engine black duo system and is it any different than the Duo-R or RX?

i was considering getting a US turbo duo, but they can be expensive. still an option however. what is the difference between the pc engine duo and turbo duo?

sorry to ask so many questions. i will do some research myself but there is still a lot i dont know.
#33
Hi, Big fan of video games here. i never had a TurboGrafx-16 even though i always wanted one (was swept up in the nes, genesis, snes craze and couldnt afford everything at once).

i have been looking and considering to finally pick up this, or a Duo. Since most of you own one of these or a PC Engine, could you please inform me as to what i should be looking for, which system i might start with, where i can find them other than ebay if there is such a place and anything to make me smarter as a gamer/consumer. also, please tell me what your first system was and your experience with it if you could. looking for a basic rundown on pros, cons, costs and great games to look for.

thank you!
#35
i also think you can just use a game genie.
#36
im new here, but i agree with a lot of what has been said. the reason i keep my gaming collection is because it means something to me. i've never collected anything else and video games have always been apart of my life, although i have sold a lot of things throughout the years. in fact, i dont own any nes, snes, genesis, n64 or ps2 games like i used to and ive sold many other valuable items because i needed the money in some way or another. on one hand, i do regret selling the games i actually bought with my own money back in the day or games that hold special nostalgic value since they were games i literally grew up with as i'm sure most of you here can relate, but on the other hand, i like a well-trimmed collection of my very favourites.

i could easily give up my games though for a greater cause such as family or other necessity.
