the pc-fx games I'm playing...
finally played all the way thru Boundary Gate! Been trying to beat it since the day it came out and started it at least 5 times. This time seemed easy and I understood the whole game :)

I play thru Blue Chicago Blues every year...I have played the English version and have so many notes I cannot resist (if you could only hear the English voice track). I'm on the final day interrogating all the suspects.

not sure if I want to finish my walkthru for Power Dolls FX next or polish up my Miraculum walkthru. There's NO love for Power Dolls (and it's so fun), and some online stuff to help out for Miraculum already...

To Nat...what part of Angelique are you stuck? I have at least two walkthru books here published when the game first came out. Happy to help. If you are really into the game, it's ok if I send you the books as long as I get 'em back...not going to attempt a fan page/walkthru for some time on this one.

Bah! why use google translator, when you can read my walkthru in all it's wonderful, english, glory!

http://pwp.att.net/p/s/community.dll?ep=87&subpageid=353740&ck=

"it's enough to get you started"

of course I did it back in the 90's and like all my walkthrus...I have tons of notes to update it, just haven't.
As long as you can figure out the menus a bit, this is a very fun game! The anime scenes are a real treat, as noted earlier. It is very long, and the world is very very big. Yes, some of the dungeons are way too big. I remember leaving my pc-fx on pause while I was at work so I wouldn't have to restart some of them :)
Comparing what else we got on the system, this game was my favorite RPG, hands down.
If you have liked any of the other Rayforce RPGs you need to play it!

I was able to beat it, just using basic "talk to everybody, search everything" methods that most 90's RPGs like this had you do, so good luck!

-scotty
ps, if you've read this far down...I do have a very complete update for Boundary Gate that I think I'm ready to post, it will be able to get anybody thru the game with a good idea of what's going on :)

Um... there already is a fan-dub for Pia Carrot (sorta), I've had it for years.
Of course I'm talking about the DVD from NuTech video. I'm certain the ladies in this production have no problems voicing explicit material (if they wanted to reprise their roles for the game).

All these efforts with PC-FX translations are really awesome to see so many years later, especially given the fact these games were not really very popular in Japan. javascript:void(0);

I remember playing thru alot of the PC-FX catalog back-in-the-day with friends, with notebooks in-hand. Whoever wasn't playing was frantically scribbling notes so we could go back and try to translate/figure out what was going on.

Keep up the great work guys! This "internet" thing has connected us fans much better than back in 1994-1998, when games were new. I'm sure there are alot of fans, like me, with work started on PC-FX games that could help out.
As an "adult", I've picked up lots of PC-FX related items over the years. There were a TON of hint books made for FX games (mostly for the ones also released on PS or Saturn). Finding them all these years later, is so bittersweet. My favorite find was definitely the actors "script" for Cutey Honey FX, the thing is HUGE.

I would love to play Cutey Honey with the English text. Anybody else interested?

I have at least 20 issues of PCE Fan, Dengenki G's Engine/PC Engine all from '95-98
but I also have over 30 hint books for 20 different PC-FX titles.
Granted, most were published with the PSX/Saturn in mind, but work very well (and have tons of cool art), but finding new ones are just about my fav hobby ATM
It would have been so cool to know about these in the 90's, when I  could game for 10 hrs/day  ](*,)

It's the #1 reason I am getting it...makes the purchase much easier for me, cuz at least I won't be disappointed by the originals.

I personally like the audio/video displays from the LaserActive, but...
Years ago a friend modded his LA with S-video, and claimed it was the easiest mod he's ever done, so...
there is hope my friend
(found a linky for you)

...from the page..."This is a stunningly easy mod. Much like SNK, Pioneer has kindly labelled everything inside their player pretty clearly."

I've got 2 spare LA's that need need new capacitors, looks like I've got a new project!

PC-FX Discussion / The PC-FX-PC !
07/27/2010, 07:18 AM
From the makers of the Dreamcast PC, PC Gameboy and PC II PC Engine comes the PC-FX-PC!
http://akiba-pc.watch.impress.co.jp/hotline/20091114/etc_tsukumo.html

a very cool-looking (gutted) PC-FX with USB ports where the controllers should go
a panel where the BMP goes that tells system temp
and it runs Windows 7
article says it cost them about $1300 in parts
its worth a look-see

If you have a US Laseractive you still need a converter to use the arcade card. AFAIK, you need one of these bad boys... called a Big Green Diving Board, back in the day...

its the big brother to the Bastard Barney converter... for us old-timers :)
here's a pic of mine...

Last converter I got was in the 90's, not sure if the newer ones addressed the LaserActive's design
16-bit stuff was built to last

But I also played the hell outta...
Team Innocent
Deep Blue Fleet
Power DoLLs
Last Imperial Prince
Der Langrisser
and Boundary Gate
WOW, that's alot for Boundary Gate
I guess I need to redo that walkthru from 10 years ago :/

I'm pretty certain that all the questions are in there correctly. I do consider myself a know-it-all for things PC-FX related, don't quite know why but it's my favorite system.
making walkthrus that help a dozen people (worldwide) doesn't make much sense, but I still enjoy the games.

Due to some screw ups with the last Quiz, I tried to word the questions better, the last one left room for debate.

I think the 2 questions that might screw people up are the ones where the answers were to choose what was NOT developed or released.

Or what game was released last, there were 2 released in the "last month"

hope it killed a little time for you!

And it looks like this was not a very profitable title, it took Kogado Studios 6 frikin' years to produce their next game  =D>

Their latest game from March 2009 <yes they are still around> was the Power Dolls 1 PC game, a fighting game I believe.

PC-FX Discussion / Power Dolls FX Walkthru
12/25/2009, 12:30 AM
My birthday present to the PC-FX this year will be to actually FINISH my walkthru for my favorite SLG game for the PC-FX, Power DOLLS FX.

I agree there are much better, polished, strategy games, even for the FX out there in 32-Bit land, but I had the most fun playing thru this one.
It doesn't get much mention ever, and the anime it's based on seems pretty obscure.

Power Dolls FX is a turn-based strategy game with giant mechs. It spawned a PS1 sequel and a PC fighting game.
If you know what the goal to each level is, the game is great.
I found it a pretty easy and playable game, once you get past all the menus.

I've gone thru it again over the last month, and have good strategies for the first 9 levels.
The only reason I didn't play the hell out of this back in the day was because the mission goals were not very clear.

The current FAQ <on GameFaqs>, is based on the English version of the PC game released by MegaTech Soft, and it's only got the first 3 leveles, and even such, it's pretty useless for beating even the first level :(

I'll send a text version for Aaron here on this site in a week or so, and I'll host a pretty version with pics later.

I'm a day late, but...
On Dec 23, 1994 our beloved <or be-hated> little white tower breathed its first breath, alongside the Saturn and the PS1's launch.
Which makes it 15 today<yesterday>

Since I bought mine <or was it adopted> at launch, it's acutally 15!
So I suppose I have to take it to get it's learner's permit on Monday
In 3 years it can actually play the other half of it's library legally, <yellow/red label games> though I'm pretty sure it's had it's fun with Pia Carrot already.

Ha Ha, it is available in English...
if you have a LaserActive
It was released on no fewer than 6 systems!

All english-released LaserActive "games" are bi-lingual, so I made a basic walkthru that worked for the PC-FCX version.
The original game was "filmed" in English, then dubbed into Japanese.
Playing the English version is hilarious.
The script is bad, the acting is worse.
I've played thru it several times, it is such a guilty pleasure.
Definately one of the few playable LA games
It's just sooo cheesy
It does rank as awesome if you are into JB Harold games
RIP Riverhill Soft
It would be rated mature if it went thru any ratings process, Detc. Rossen drops the F-bomb several times for no reason, and there is a TON of drinking and smoking.
I'm actually working on re-creating a better walkthru, I don't have my original tho,
and I just broke my LaserActive last week playing this game.
I have spare parts, but I've never attempted working on an LA before.

I'll link to the walkthru when I'm done

Well, I guess this makes me mr. bare-bones. I wrote that walkthru waaaaaay back in the day wwhen the game was brand new. I actually never posted it on Gamefaqs, and have no idea who did on my behal. It was sent to Aaron for one of the earliest incarnations of his FX website, as a helpful guide for the game.

I've done a dozen or so of these, mostly for the pc-fx, not all are online, and not all are up to Gamefaqs standards.
One day when I retire, I'll go back and polish them up.
Thanks for pointing out the mistakes, a friend and I were in a rush to finish this.
Glad to see there is still some FX love out there

Both of those games had official NEC phone cards.  I used to think they were for pre-orders. If these are are the prizes you get from NEC, well then damn.... I have to apologize for holding this grudge for 12 years..I was expecting one with my Blue Breaker!

I've seen them both in one promotional picture together, not sure if it was on NCS or here on PCEngineFX, not too many places had stuff like that as "news" back in the day.
Couldn't find it with a quick search, let us know if you have any better luck.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Re: need help

Au contraire, mon frere (yeah its not spelled right)

The Turbo+CD is NOT the same as a TurbDuo (or DuoR/DuoRX...whatever)

the Turbo+CD will NOT allow you to play SuperCD's, just Turbo CD's
64K games vs 256? Its been awhile, but i think those are the specs, and you will get a HELL of a lot more fun from your Turbo if you feed it Super CD's

You can get a System 3.0 card or an Arcade Card PRO (make sure its a PRO) to get the full benefits of the Turbo Library. I'm fairly certain Arcade Cards are plentiful on the market, but they need a convertor which are not.
System 3.0 cards WERE released in the US, no converter needed, you just can't play Arcade card CD's (which are all Japanese, but ALL forms of Turbo CD's play on any system with the right operating system card, no region lockouts)

Oh and I was pissed that the "last" TurboChips didn't even come in a case, just a crappy plastic tray

PC-FX Discussion / Re: Anime Freak demos
06/14/2007, 12:14 AM
Then Anime Freak games were just that....titles for anime freaks. Each one had a <basic> theme to it, with some FMV of current <for the early 90's> anime. They DID have some fun mini-games with J-pop or Idol girls hosting them.
These are original games, not demos of current PC-FX games

You are probably thinking of the PCE Fan or Super PCEngine Fan Deluxe issues that came out with very cool demos of PCE or PC-FX games. These were regular newsstand game magazines and I only the last few before they stopped publication had the demos. And YES, Super God Trooper Zeroigar was on one of them!  WAYYYYYYYYY before it got released, if i remember correctly.

Acemore Freedom 16:  Were these ever actually manufactured?  Anyone seen one?  How's the wireless?  How 'bout that Bonk head?

Lots of these overstock at Toys R Us back in the day...good think I didn't pay too much. The IR doesnt work well, and the IR box would fall apart if you sneazed within 100 feet of it

Ultimate Superstick:  This also remains an enigma to me.
[/color]
TONS of these once TTI gave up on the market...if you could find a reseller. I got a few for $2 each...then a bunch for $1 each...AND my friend was still making a profit! I really like these sticks for RPG's,  all the walking around in 16-bit RPGs were murder on my thumbs with the TurboPad or TurboStick. They also had suction cup thingies at the base and righty/lefty fire buttons.
They also featured "life saving slo-motion" (thats a quote from the box) :)

Like I said the Acemore 16 wireless ones were cheap and crappy, the Beeshu Supersticks actually lasted under heavy play, both were made for the US market...which is why I suppose there were tons leftover : /

Nope not at all like cybercross for the PCE/TG-16.
OUR version is a space shooter (a la Blazing Lazers), but with big bugs as the main course, this is a TV remote control watch thingy that has a small RPG game on it. Interesting, in a 1995 sort of way.

Were there different ones produced?
I was pretty young when the Turbo came out originally, and only moved away from the "dark side" (Genny) once the CD came out, so I missed out on lots of the original promo stuff.

FYI...one of the original spokesmen (if you can call him that) for the Turbo was Macaulay Culkin (aka Home Alone kid)...one of the corny reasons I was not won over by the origina Turbo "marketing" team.

Aaahhh... in the arcades, Gain Ground had a funky vertical monitor setup, and a 3 player configuration (red/blue/yellow versions of the players).
There was an interesting interview years back with the producer, he said only american arcades had the 3 player setup, which is why no home version supports more than 2 players, since all come from Japan (duh). I got the PCE version hoping it would support the three players :(

PCE version: Better colors, bigger sprites, much better CD music
Genesis version: English release (found mine at EB games last year), faster gameplay, and 2 player.

I almost never have someone around to play games, so I can forgive the PCE version (it is missing 10 of the 60 levels if I remember correctly).

WOW no1s mentioned DropOff?
I usually have to defend my love for this craptabulous game every time this thread arises. Yes it does suck on a TG-16, but it is sweet on a turboexpress.

Deep Blue is also not quite deserving of some of the crap that is thrown on it, but it definately should not have been a showcase title when the TG-16 was debuted in America

PC-FX Discussion / Team Innocent
09/06/2004, 04:00 PM
O_O Team Innocent, probably my favorite game Hudson did for the PC-FX (yes even above Zenki). TI is a totally original game, and I really loved the characters  and storyline. While the game isn't incredibly long it was worth the time you invest in it (plus its dirt cheap). For a launch game (12/24/1994), it was very impressive in terms of how long it was, and the amount of items you can collect (anyone know what the cigarettes do, if anything). While the character sprites are very lacking in detail, the backgrounds are mostly amazing and gave me alot of hope for what could be in the sequel.......WHY THE HELL WASNT THEIR A SEQUEL?
Im guessing that this was a very expensive game to make, along with Battle Heat.  I'm sure that these 2 games were big money-loosers for Hudson, but no ports of TI or sequels just make me sad.
I hope my small PC-FX site contained the walkthru you were using for TI, its a great game that is very rewarding to play through, and it's difficulty level is fair with only a couple places that really require translation skills to figure out what to do.
I've played through this game several times, which is why I place it above Zenki, which is great, but I havn't played it in awhile.

YUP....of course a high score of 90 is just plain silly. The 10th question was meant to be:
How many games were released on the PC-FX based on the "Angelique" series from Koei?

A:2
B:4
C:6
D:none, they all appeared on the Saturn

something must have happened while i was uploading it. When i checked the next day or two later to see if anyone had even noticed, it already had 33 scores posted, too late to change scoring (many had already gotten the max)

as of Friday nite 125 people have played it! WoW, I think thats great and very suprising.

No suprise: 124/125 people know the correct answer to who released the PC-FX

BIG suprise: 41/125 people DO know what was the first 16:9 (widescreen) hi-def game that also just happened to be programmed on the PC-FX. This was from an obscure magazine from back in the infancy of the pc-fx. I was sure nobody remembered this one! Its a damn shame nobody ever came up with a demo of it :(

Wow, I can actually contribute here. I have both modules (well 3 if you count the karaoke module) for the LaserActive.
I have the US versions of the hardware, though the LD's themselves are not region encoded (like PCE cds). I us my LA system as my main Turbo system to play my PCE games, the shape of the system calls for a different convertor for the sustem cards (the "big green diving board").

There were only 3 games released for the US version
Vajra (the fmv shooter described above)
Quiz Econosaurus (ecological/educational game from Hudson)
Manhattan Requiem (JB Harold: Murder Club sequel)

Of course many more were released overseas, many games were released on both the PCE LD and the Sega Megadrive LD. Finding JB Harold: Blue chicago blues for the LDROM2 would be great! As would many of the animated LD games like Time Gal.

There were 13 (i think, i can check if any1cares) total US Sega LD games, with MAYBE 5 total games worth owning.

Going thru Blue Chicago Blues right now (sega version), if any1 needs any more info keep this thread alive!

Hmmm, if it were indeed Galaxy Fraulein Luna, it would be quite rare :)
It is in fact the re-release of Galaxy Fraulein Yuna, with the Hu-Video CD sampler included. Nice to find new, though they do pop up every now and again, it was a later release, so I'm sure it can be had with ease if you are willing to wait for it.
It is in no way associated with Sapphire, nor nearly as valuable. Sapphire is a shooter, Yuna is a digital comic.
Yuna had a PC-FX sequel "based" on the anime.
Great fun that game!
