10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

$55 Shipped - Paypal gift Priority with tracking.

Pretty nice condition... sealed with a large tear in the back. Box has very minor bending on the sides, most likely from things being stacked on top of it.

Quote from: herr-g on 04/19/2011, 05:25 PMI own two of those monitors and both have this issue.
Seems to work as designed ... not quite satisfying for such a high-priced gadget.
thank you very much for your comment. makes me feel much better about this. considering the price paid i do agree with you 100%

Quote from: soop on 04/06/2011, 04:46 AMI'm interested in the LT too.  Haven't seen one since Thibaut sold his.  Can you notify me if you're selling please?

BTW, TB, I've seen your collection on some other forum.  That whole thread was insane, there was stuff I'd never even heard of.
350 for a loose lt is a gift from god in my opinion and the seller must of really needed funds.

RoyVegas also sold his a few months ago it was just a loose one with all hook ups and a loose bomberman and it went for $350 shipped? The for sale thread for that it's probably still at the PCE for sale section.

i paid probly a tad over market value for the boxed lt and the duo monitor. please refer to the post i did in the tech / repair section to show a flaw in the duo monitors. every one i came across showed the same issue so im not sure what to say about it. still works fine though.

i personally paid 675 for the boxed lt and 500 for the duo monitor. this was a few years back though. i dont expect to get all that back but something near that would be nice. the lt comes boxed with an aftermarket power plug and the duo monitor comes loose with original video and power cable. again im just trying to see what this stuff is worth at this point but am thinking off selling it all off if its worth it. nothing set in stone yet.

i feel the lt should sell for no less than 550. the box is beat up and theres a pretty bad scratch on the top but it works perfectly and the duo monitor i would say 450 at the very least. like i said though check my other thread on the repair section to show what all these systems have as a problem from what i believe the factory. I would say 1000 + shipping for both is my lowest point, and again whoever buys them if or when i decide to let them go would need to be aware of their flaws so there are no surprises.

Quote from: guest on 04/05/2011, 12:55 PMI recently snagged a boxed PC-FX with a couple common games for $125 shipped.  I don't know exactly what the rest of those goodies would be worth, but no doubt your eBay searching skills can figure it out.
ebay isnt the best resource for getting prices. id rather get opinions from nec hobbyists on this site. just because something sells for 800.00 on ebay doesnt make it worth that from then on. Theres a street fighters arcade board that recently jumped like +600.00 because of 2 ebay listings and now everyone thinks thats the market value. def not.... ill put the pcfx at 125 because thats what you suggest.... Thanks man.

Quote from: BEERS AND VIDEOS on 04/05/2011, 12:35 PMAll I know are about eBay prices. I've seen an LT, unboxed sitting there for a while around $500 - so maybe with the box yours would go for about that, since the ones on eBay, unboxed aren't selling at that price. I'm thinking Super CD-ROM, unboxed probably around $150 (a boxed one with a boxed Core II just sold for about $280). TurboExpress NEW just went for $250 earlier today through Buy It Now, so yours I'd guess around $200. That's about all I could think off offhand.
ok so far this is what youre saying

1. NEC Duo LCD Monitor - loose
2. NEC PC Engine Core Grafx - loose
3. NEC PC Engine Duo-R - boxed
4. NEC PC Engine Interface Unit with Core Grafx- boxed - $280.00
5. NEC PC Engine LT - boxed - $500.00
6. NEC PC-FX - boxed - $125.00
7. NEC Super CDROM2 - loose
8. NEC Super Grafx - loose
9. NEC Turbo Duo - loose
10. NEC Turbo Grafx 16 (region modded) - boxed
11. NEC Turbo Grafx 16 CDROM - loose
12. NEC PC Engine GT - loose
13. NEC Turbo Express - loose
14. NEC Turbo Express - boxed (near new complete) - $200.00

Thanks for the info man! the only price that sucks out of those is the lt... i paid drastically more than that but it was a while back. I guess thats just the way it goes sometimes...

Quote from: BEERS AND VIDEOS on 04/05/2011, 12:28 PMNICE! Not sure what it's worth... But if you're looking to sell any of it, especially the Super CD-ROM2 or the LT, definitely hit me up.
i need to know what i should sell it for.... Thanks for the interest though!

PC Engine Duo Monitor Question

Whats up guys. I own a pc engine duo monitor. When i baught it a few years ago i noticed a minor bend in the dop of the picture. The seller told me all the ones he came across had this issue and was like that from the factory. It didnt matter to me and still doesnt but i just want to know if thats true. Every time i see one for sale i ask the seller if it has the same issues and they always tell me yes... I found pics of someone that has one on the internet and it shows the same issue i describe. these pics are not of mine but shows the issue. I circled it on the pics.  Also the bend only shows up on games on not when the tv tuner is on which makes me think maybe something with the video sync who knows.... any help or comments would be appreciated....

This system does not read CD's. When you turn it on the CD Spins but does not load game. It just keeps spinning. The laser seems to be trying to read it but just doesnt load the game. It plays huCards without issue.

This comes with: Duo RX System, Duo RX Controller, RX Power Brick(not pictured) and Video Cables.(not pictured)

Buyer please pay paypal gift handle fees. Thanks

Ok i found this information on the forums:

vr101:AB=12.33 AC=10.65 BC=19.55
vr102:AB=7.89 AC=8.11 BC=11.28
vr103:AB=7.25 AC=7.14 BC=18.46
vr105:AB=0.38 AC=0.00 BC=0.38

Now can anyone tell me what the hell this means? I understand the diagram with the VR symbolizes the knob and the optional locations you can put it in but what the hell does the rest mean and how do i use this to help my situation lol. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies
#26
the problem is there are 4 knobs with endless possibilities when trying to find the right combination.... Its literally impossible to figure it out.... I need help or guidance....

lol its actually a commodore 64..... my girlfriend thought it was a typewriter lmao

Up for sale is a PC Engine Duo. I am an honest seller so i will describe this in its entirety.... This duo was having issues reading discs, I tested the laser on another duo and found out the laser works. So i am selling this item AS IS. There is a problem on the board that is causing it not to read discs. This leads me to state i dont think this system will ever be able to read discs again. The huCard slot works 100% perfectly with good sound and clear picture but sadly the cd part of the system is not working. Maybe but most likely not if you are very good at repairing a PC Engine Duo Motherboard you may be able to fix it. On the board there are 5 calibration wheels for the laser. One of them is missing from the board I think that is where the problem begins.... This system will not come with a laser since it is good and useless for this particular system i decided to keep it as an extra for my personal collection. This sale will include the System, a working original NEC PC Engine AC Adapter and Video Cables.... System case is in good cosmetic condition.

This system is perfect for someone looking to buy a PC Engine to play Japanese HuCards but not CD's and likes the look of the duo more than a boring white PC Engine... Please see the pictures below for a more detailed idea of what you are getting. Also please ask questions before buying this I will not offer a return of anykind and it is being sold AS IS... My loss is you gain. Thank you

I will ship this USPS Priority with delivery confirmation and tracking to anyone in the United States the very next day.

This picture shows it working. Game is not included and neither is anything else you see in this photo except the PC Engine Duo and cables that are plugged into it

I tried changing the pot knob locations but still wont work. I tried 2 lasers which I know work since i tested them in my Duo R. The knobs on the duo RX are big and white with numbers on them, alot different than the duo's. Can someone help me calibrate them to the correct locations? Please help maybe get me a pic or something.... Thanks in advance
#30
I got the video to work.... Now it wont read discs.... It returns an error. I tried changing the pot knob locations but still wont work. I tried 2 lasers which im pretty sure are good. The knobs on the duo RX are big and white with numbers on them, alot different than the duo's. Can someone help me calibrate them to the correct locations? Please help maybe get me a pic or something.... Thanks in advance

i have every pc engine system and i have tested the plugs on my duo r and it works.... I was able to get video from the rx for a split second and never again.... its not looks plugs or anything becaue ill wiggle them and still no video.... i think theres a problem on the board somewhere but no idea what to do

it shows no video regardless of what i put in it
#32
hi have a duo RX that shows no sign of video. Even if i jiggle the video plug.... I tested a couple plugs and none work. If i hit the run button i see the red light come on and the laser attempt to read but i dont think it reads discs either. First i want to try to get video can someone help me out......

i received Return To Zork today and the game seemed to play fine... No problems but i didnt play it that long... There are not many FMV parts to that game i really need to test it on something like Battle Heat to confirm for sure.... Can someone send me a link to the exact CD-rs that are recommended?
#36
i have Return to Zork coming in the mail, should be here today or tommorow it was supposed to be shipped with the system but turns out the items were coming from 2 different sellers... Once i get it i will test it out and let you know what happens..... I also tried sony cd-rs and i had better results for the most part but still showed some skipping on certain games. It is possible that the rips im getting are not the best right?
#37
i am unsure of the brand as i just grabbed them from my girlfriends house... They were different colors on the top. Like red, blue or purple..... But the bottoms of the discs were average.... They could be pretty cheap brand... I burned them at 4x then retried them at 1x.... I will try a better brand of disc and see what happens... I would like to stress though the discs start to play and some show disc read errors while others just make weird noise during FMV and skip all together.... Other times they play the opeing FMV fine and have no problems... Once i get into the gameplay it works fine but the loading seems long.... I have some memorexs here at work and will take some home and reburn at 1x.... If this doesnt work i believe it could be the laser although i baugt this pcfx from a very trusted source who def took great care of their stuff.... Any other suggestions would be a great help at this point.....

PC-FX Discussion / PCFX Problem with discs
04/06/2010, 10:54 PM
hi guys i recenty picked up a pcfx.... Now i have some games coming in the mail but in the meantime i decided to burn 3 games from various places online.... I got Zenki, Super God Trooper and Chip Chan Kick..... i burned all at 4x they all were just a bin and cue file.... When i pop in any of the games it shows a cd read error during opening video scene but the games play fine... I dont have a single scratch on any of the discs..... If i need to calibrate the laser please give me extremely detailed instructions how to do so.... Thanks in advance...
#39
i took the one that came with the supercdrom2 and modified to to fit in my supergrafx. But it only lasted about 2 weeks then stopped working. So i had to scrap it. I also attempted to make one with parts from radio shack but for some reason it didnt work....
#40
thanks for the responses guys! if your wondering why i dont know these answers if i own an LT and all the rest stated above it is because i never thought to hook the LT to my Super Cd Rom or my interface unit. I found the LT boxed for a good deal and jumped into it without knowing all the things it was capable of. So to clear this up i can just plug the LT right into the interface unit without any additional plugs and it will play?

I don't think i would ever want to hook the LT to the Super cdrom because that defeats the whole purpose of it being portable atleast with the interface unit i can take it on vacations with me lol. Thanks for all your help
#41
ok i have a few questiosn i need clearing up from the pros.

1.) whats the difference between the Interface unit Super CDRom and the SuperCDRom2 that goes with the supergrafx?
2.) can i hook up my PC Engine LT to my interface unit? what plugs does i require? do i just plug it to the interface unit and run a separate ac adapter for the LT?
3.) do you know where i can find that little 3 inch adapter plug that came with the super cdrom2? or steps to make one..... heres a pic
IMG
4.) can the interface unit play every cd based pc engine game with the proper super system card?

Thanks for anyone who helps me.
