12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Well, most of the music does sound better than the PCE songs, not counting CDDA, but it's still not as good as the PC88 version and it's a sloppy conversion with horrible loading times.

Oh and I almost forgot:

As I said I do agree that the MCD versions of identical compositions are superior to their PCE counterparts, but there are a few exceptions.

This is one of those in my opinion.

PCE
MCD
I really don't like the tinny sounds the MCD version uses here.

I also never really cared for the extra stuff the localization team added to the ending. It's easily the worst dialogue in the game.

PCE
MCD
(Also, again an entirely different song in both versions and Gillian and Jamie were completly redrawn and look really silly in the MCD version.)

But don't get me wrong, all in all the MCD version is still great and if the topic creator hasn't done it already, I really suggest playing the english version first and after that play the PCE version for comparisons sake if you don't speak japanese. The game drives on it's story and I disagree with some comments made in this thread that you can follow most of the plot just through the visuals, especially the whole revelation during the showdown part which goes for about 20 minutes with nothing but non-interactive voiced dialogue.

And you could always do a lot worse than the MCD version.

Quote from: SamIAm on 04/22/2011, 11:42 AMThe Sega CD version has far superior music. It's the same music, but it's programmed much better. This is important.

PCE-CD
Sega CD
and that's not even the most drastic one.

Also, bear in mind that the US version is the only one released for Sega CD. Curiously, there is no JP Mega CD release.
I agree that (most) of the MCD chiptunes sound better. However, that only applies to the identical songs. Thing is, you're wrong saying it's the same music. While the PC Engine version used chiptune and Redbook Audio renditions of all the music from the original PC-8801/MSX2 versions, the MCD version replaced about half the soundtrack, even some of the CD Audio tracks, and well, the actual compositions of the new tracks are not up to those of the PC88/MSX2/PCE versions.

In that sense, I'd actually say the original PC-8801 version has the best soundtrack, it has all the original tunes you'll also hear in the PCE version and they definitly sound better than the PCE chiptunes. Only the few CD Audio tracks are where the PCE version has the advantage.

PC-8801
Same track in the PCE version
You won't hear that song in the MCD version.

Oh and in the same PCE video a little bit later...
Compare this song, to...
...the one played in the same scene in the MCD version.

Not cool!

Quote from: Dark Fact on 03/17/2010, 06:33 PMI'm guessing they re-did the German because Konami or Nintendo was afraid that the broken German would've been too offensive for natural German people.  It's not like in Japan where nobody cares just as long as it is a foreign tongue and sounds cool. :-k
As a native german speaker, I actually thought the PCE opening narration was surprisingly well done for a JP only title. And it was definitly not broken german. (As the original narrator was german as well.)

And I've heard the japanese VC release retains the original voice over.

If that's true, my only guess as to why they've used the new voice over in the US and PAL regions is that in the original opening the narrator mentions how Dracula feasts on the blood of young women, while in the new opening narration it was changed to the blood of humans.

Quote from: guest on 01/16/2010, 12:46 PMThis has now been raised to my number 1 most wanted project to be translated. It really needs an English patch for people to get over the initial hurdles.
There actually is an official US release, it was released for PC in 1990 by Sierra. I haven't played that version myself, (Though it's available for download free and legal.) but from what I can gather it's quests are loosely based on the original PC-8801 ones.

The music's horrible though.

I think the MD version is actually looking slightly better overall, (In movement at least.) and on top of that the PC Engine version's controls are a little sloppy at times. I miss all the character portraits in the MD version though, even the original PC-8801 version had those and the sound's obviously better in the PCE version.

Quote from: guest on 01/15/2010, 01:07 PMWohoo. Some very kind person emailed me the solution to my first level problem. Now I can give the game a real proper go.
And here I am. I don't know what you did to the admin but it obviously worked, thanks.

Quote from: ParanoiaDragon on 01/13/2010, 07:34 AMDammit, I was hoping I could tell you that!  Yeah, the first level requires 3 people(took me forever to figure that out bitd), though, beyond that, I couldn't figure the level out, did alot of running around, & ....yeah.  LMK how that level turns out, since I never did figure it out!
COPY & PASTE!

You can actually go up the mountain, which was a little tricky for me to figure out as well, since the PCEngine version's controls are pretty sloppy. Enter the first building on top of the mountain, give the medicine you found in the cave to the sick guy, after that you can enter the second building on the mountain, make your way to the end of the very linear dungeon, kill the dragon boss and after that, the quest is essentially completed, you'll have to walk all the way to the beginning of the level though. And don't forget to talk to everyone in town before leaving as you'll get some presents. (As far as I remember it's just money, not too sure.)

In the following screen you have the option to either equip the items found in this quest, to sell them or to have them examined. (None of your characters has the ability to examine items at this point...and as far as I remember you didn't really find any equippable items in this quest either so your only option would be selling them.) And while we're talking about items...most items aren't visibly presented as treasure chests and such, you'll find most items, (especially ingredients for healing items.) hidden on walls if you bump into them.

After you've finished the first quest, you'll get free selection over which one you want to tackle next.
