QuoteI said hello, he replied back with his new site and I'm guessing he's referring to the ChaCha project ??
Not really, just been spending some time writing about the PC-FXGA and doing some videos, I guess I could put a page about the translation but I don't want to give false hopes about it. I'm still keen to finish it though, time is lacking with family and work.

He He :)

Thank you very much for the Zeroigar translation and well done, I will definitely try it.

How did you overlay text on the cut-scenes BTW?

I've got a copy of GMAKER on PC-98 and DOS/V one of the boxes has the manual I think. I'll check if there are any references to the above. Still trying to track GMAKER PLUS originals...

Drivers? There aren't drivers per se to drive the board. Everything runs in DOS mode using the exe you get on the floppy disk unless my memory is going blank :) you can either feed it cd games or EX files. There's a lot of explore and I've just scratched the surface, keep me posted on any findings, please. :)
#6
I've not looked into making cd images, not sure there is a program for that. I know you can create EX files. I believe though not entirely sure that you can send program to a PC-FX via the SCSI interface, I've not tried it though. Which dev kit are you using? GMAKER or GMAKER PLUS? I'll have  look at the programming guide see if I can find anything and let you know.

PM or email (sabre470atyahoo.co.uk) me, if you need help to set your GA, it's been a while since I've done mine but I'm sure I can dust off my memory ;)

Nice, look forward to see the new site :)

You are correct on the SDK, the guy had to do a bit of hacking to get it to boot. The SDK can built CD isos and EX files but you don't have to use the 3d libraries though it doesn't help that the whole documentation for the kit in japanese.

You could say that, on my 2nd point, if it was totally incompatible, nothing would work ;) Everything works except the display so it's little difficult to play in the dark.
#10
Quote from: guest on 01/17/2013, 05:04 PMThat's the PC-FX GA setup.   It's basically a PC-FX kit for your computer and most of what you create with it is incompatible with the real thang, because of 3D.
Actually that's not entirely accurate some peeps have managed to use Gmaker/+ to create some code to run on a PC-FX emulator, I think it was frog game if memory serves me well. The SDK can create some game for the regular FX.

Secondly, I have both PC-FXGA games ie SameGameFX and Nnyu and they do boot on a stock PC-FX you can ear the music and even start the games but obviously the screen stays blank. Might be possible to gut a PC-FXGA from its 3D Chip and create an adapter but that's beyond my skills... way beyond.

Is there anything different from the final version?

Thanks

Hello guys,

I'm afraid this isn't a homebrew game at all, this is one of the demos you get with the PC-FXGA distrib.

I'll have to make a video of this in the future...

PC-FX Discussion / Re: PC-FXGA Videos
02/07/2008, 07:05 AM
Quote from: geepee16 on 01/30/2008, 06:25 AMThis is really cool.  I had no idea anyone had any progress with these kits.  Is it easy to work with or do you need a lot of programming know-how.  NEC originally talked about this being very user-friendly.  SInce I have never actually used it, I can't be sure.  I read once on a Japanese site that all FX games work perfectly so I think it's safe for us to accept that.

In any case, the whole idea f being able to play the FX on a PC was a wonderful idea (though I thnik Matsushita was the first to do it with the 3DO).  The FX was designed to be a console sister to the PC-98 computers after all.  I wonder if the PC-FXGA could help us on the emulation front in any way?

NEC was considering a 3d processer add-on which obviously never came out.  They probably realized too late that the world was more eager to jump to 3d than it was to remain 2d.  What intersts me is that the FX much have some extra horsepower under the hood ready to receive any such add-on.  Could this 3d chip in the FXGA be 'plugged' into an FX?
It's not particularly difficult to use, if you know DOS commands it's a breeze, the hardest thing is to install everything properly with no IRQ conflicts...

From what I understand there are no reasons why the PC-FXGA couldn't run all the PC-FX games no incompability has been reported yet. It's a PC-FX with the missing 3D chip...

I don't think one could connect directly the 3D chip on a stock PC-FX, the bios on the PCF-XGA is different but I guess with sufficient knowledge and hardware documentation it could be done using what's in a PC-FXGA but it would be a lot of work for a few games and demos. Emulation is the most likely option to play these I'm afraid. Note that the PC-FX is able to boot and play PC-FXGA games but you only get sound, no image.

With regards to Emulation the PC-FXGA bios has been dumped a long time by the FXer team and is widely available and Magic Engine is really solid and cheap.  I guess the SDK could help developers in developing emulators.

Thanks for your messages of support for my 360, it's back in shape now though I haven't played much with it lately...

I'm happy you guys like the PC-FXGA videos, I've got more to come, there are still plenty of demos to explore from GMAKER/+ and the programming book. I will try to get some done over the week end.

Only FX game this dude doesn't own.  http://www22.big.or.jp/~pc-fx/pc-fx/review.html
Also Madarake (rare goods store in Japan) lists their buying price as "To be decided", meaning it should be
worth a lot.  http://www.mandarake.co.jp/information/buy/nkn/galaxy/game/pcfx.html

Anyone have any real information on this one?

I got one years ago, the version I have is only an intro movie looping, you can't do much with it unfortunately.... maybe access to the game is locked somehow since the iso a bit big for just a few images looping...

Quote from: nat on 06/26/2007, 05:50 PMSo if I understand this right, the PC-FXGA has a 3D graphics chip that the actual PC-FX lacks?

Therefor, these demos would not be playable on an actual PC-FX, correct?
You are absolutely right, I guess the 3d chips on the PC-FXGA was intended to be an addon later on for the PC-FX but NEC decided otherwise.

I have two 3D games that are on CD, Nnyu and SameGameFX and they do work in the PC-FX, meaning the CD boots, but you can only hear the sound on your TV, no image is displayed due to the lack of 3D Chip. But at one point they were intended to work on real PC-FX with the ill-fated 3D adapter.

Quote from: Mednafen on 06/26/2007, 09:15 PMDoes Battle Heat work using the FXGA?
Yep Battle Heat works like a charm in fact all PC-FX are compatible with the card, though I've only tested the ones I own.

Quote from: Seldane on 06/26/2007, 02:46 PMI just need this clarified- I've heard the PC-FXGA thing lets you play PC-FX games on your computer without actually having a PC-FX console. Is this correct? If so- does it work well? Slowdown? Anything like that? Do you need a "powerful" computer  (powerful for being a computer with an ISA slot, hehehe) in order for the software (games) to run as fast as on a real PC-FX console?
Absolutely you can play PC-FX games on the card without the need for the console. It works really well, the card has the same hardware than in regular PC-FX therefore there are no slowdowns, actually loading time are faster on a PC thanks to faster CDROM drives. You don't necessarily need a powerful PC, I guess an old Pentium would do the trick. I am using a Pentium 2 266 Mhz with 64 meg of RAM. One thing you have to understand is that there is no emulation involved here, everything is processed on the card, it's all as fast as on a real FX. The PC is basically used to load data into the card.

Quote from: Keranu on 06/26/2007, 03:56 PMAwesome, awesome videos, thanks for sharing them! I assume there is no sound for them, right? I look forward to any other material you post.
Thanks, there is no sound for the 2 movies because its' only a graphical demo, the new batch of video I am preparing will have sound.

Stay tuned

I'll be posting some more videos later that show better use of the chip.

PC-FX Discussion / PC-FXGA Videos

Hello all,

Long time no post!!!

I have just restarted to use my PC-FXGA DOS/V board, I got it hooked up to a capture card, and I started making videos of games, demos and 3D movies rendered with the board.

You can see the first 2 videos on my blog http://sabre470.wordpress.com.

More to follow in the coming weeks.

Enjoy

Quote from: "PC Gaijin"Good lord, that was a flashback to when real men installed monster ISA cards into their PCs. Btw, I read your blog entry about finally locating one at a price you wanted. Not asking you how much you paid for it, but I've seen a couple of those on eBay over the years (some brand new), and the price didn't seem too outrageous (under a hundred dollars). I'm pretty sure they were the DOS/V version too, not the PC-98. Maybe I'm confused...

Can you play regular PC-FX games with that card? Like the old Creative 3DO Blaster card (kind of wish I had picked one of those up just for kicks when I had a chance).

Yeah you are right there has been a lot of PC-FXGA for under $100 but they were all PC-98 (I checked ebay at least once a week, I was determinted to get a DOS/V :D ), the DOS/V version only pop out once in a while but they usually go for $300-500. My card is coming from Yahoo Japan Auction. The distinction between DOS/V and PC-98 version is easy the DOS/V card is huge and the PC-98 version is acutally the same but half the size and two layers of PCB. Though the DOS/V version is rarer probably due to the fact that people in Japan had more PC-98 than IBM PC/AT, it's probably why you see a lot of PC-FXGA PC-98 on ebay and Yahoo japan.

Yes, you can play regular PC-FX games too, the good thing is that the games save are made on the hard drive so it might open doors for hacking and stuffs. Good thing about the card is that I don't have to get my PC-FX out of the box everytime I wanna play Battle Heat, bad thing an extra PC in my room (Mrs not particularly happy   ).

I'll try to make more pictures later on to show you guys some demos and games from the SDK.

Hello all,

I'm not sure everybody saw the pictures of my PC-FXGA DOS/V I put on previous post, so I'm creating a new post so you can re/discover them.

I recently acquired a PC-FXGA DOS/V, I've been after one of these for ages and almost gave up in the end. It's quite an easy card to setup despite the rumours I heard about how difficult it is to set it up. Thought it took me a while to gather the necessary software especially the driver that were missing in my purchase.

As you can see the PC-FXGA was able to display graphics in 3D, some of pictures are actually from the game Nnyu (that some of you heard of). It's one of the only 3D games released commercially on the PC-FX along with SAME GAME FX. Nnyu was released as part of a programming book for the PC-FXGA.

Any questions, let me know, enjoy.

Hi all,

I finally had time to set up my FXGA and it's already up and running in my PC!!!

It's quite easy to set up and works fine with the DOS version supplied with Windows 95 japan version.

I could'nt resist to play Nnyu and it's quite a fun game actually, it's quite bizzare to see the PC-FX generating some 3D graphics, it's definitely worth the money I put in it.

I tried a few demos as well, the power of the 3D chips seems to be on par with a Saturn but I'm not sure it is being pushed to its limit by the demos.

I will take some shots as soon as I can...

Thanks to Nutribrain for supplying the drivers!!!

I finally managed to zip those two files which are located on the disc. Suprisingly they are only about 70kb large, I would have expected larger filesize. Anyway, you can download a ZIP archive here.

I hope you'll continue with your Little Red Riding Hood translation project and finish it someday, so that I can enjoy the game.

Thank you very much!!! Finally I will be able to play with this great card!!!

Regarding the translation, I'm still happy to finish the project, I'm just waiting for the FX emulator that will help me to test and debug the translation quicker, I've burn too many CDRs so far to test it...

I will keep this board posted on my progress.

Cheers

Hello,

I wonder if anybody could help me, I'm looking for the files that are contained in the floppy disk that shipped with the FXGA DOS/V version, my card didn't ship with that disk so I can't run it at the moment  :(.

Has anybody got this boards here? If so could someone provide me with an image of the floppy disk or just the files?

Many thanks

They're supposed to run on the FX if you don't use the HuC6273 3D chipset in your code.

Hi there,

PC-FXGA game released on CD as far as I know can boot on stock PC-FX at least this is the case for Nnyu which I tested. Check my blog for more information. http://uk.geocities.com/sabre470/2006/01/some-more-nnyus.html Their boot sector is identical to PC-FX games. Though with the absence of the 3D chipset in the stock FX you don't get any image lol, I actually have the Nnyu looping in my FX as I'm typing the music is quite cool a bit repetitive though...

I don't know about SAME GAME FX but as soon as I can grab a copy of it I'll let you know.

Hi Aaron,

What a surprise to see the new website, and to see you have some relationship with Hudson. What's the nature of your relationship with them, ca we have a bit of history?

Does this mean we're gonna know more about unreleased stuff on the FX as well?

In any case, congratulations, good work.

Hello,

You are absolutely right, I just checked both CDs in the book, one is indeed Nnyu, the other one contains sourcecode and artwork of the demos in the book.

I just listen to track 1 of Nnyu CD and the voice says PC-FXGA so it definitely won't work on a stock FX. But I'll try anyway to see if at least it comes up with some message, who knows.

Sabre

Quote from: "Kaminari"As well, I'm very interested in the game Nnyu for the defunct 3D Adapter :)

What do you mean by that? Nnyu was meant  to be released as a full game the FX with the 3d adapter? Anymore information on this?

From what I've seen in the book it is just a simple demo, but I maybe wrong since I haven't played with it.

So I understand you are interested in getting the executable of the game to play on an FXGA?

Hello all,

Check this out, just received this from a friend in Japan this week...

This is a PC-FXGA programming book, I believe this is pretty rare in the west. I'm still chasing a PC-FXGA DOS/V kit, but that doesn't appear a lot on ebay/Yahoo japan, sadly...

The book contains details about the PC-FX compiler, libraries, samples games, guide to the Dogagenie 3D editor and two CDs which I think have been already released somewhere.

Hum... Interesting were there any other game on that tape? I guess the FX fighter stuffs come from there...

Concerning the PC-FX Translation it's pretty much stalled at the moment but not dead I guess I'll spend more on it when I get my hands on the FX emulator soon...
