2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

Quote from: OldRover on 12/06/2010, 02:34 PMChristmas of 2004, my mother in law got me some very revealing shorts.

I wore them often in the next few months.

In October of 2005, my wife gave birth to our first child.

I'm not sure if this was coincidence. :D

Thanks for the response and tips, I may have found a few motherboards I can buy that I might end up swapping.

Chop kindly helped me identify a bunch of caps, I replaced them and the problem didn't go away. We were thinking if I replace the AV port and it still does not work, its a chip on the motherboard. I have looked this thing over a hundred times and everything is in pristine condition, no cracks, breaks loose items anywhere.

Anyone know of a 3rd party replacement AV Jack that would work on this saturn? Instead of having to find another broken saturn just for the AV jack :/
#14
Damn dude, you keep giving away awesome stuff  O:)

EDIT:

I don't know why I didn't put this in the first place. After reconsideration this is definitely my best xmas present:

I use to play my uncle's Sega Genesis all the time when I was at my grandparents house and of course always wanted one. Xmas day comes, upon opening my last gift under the tree, its a Sega Genesis! I begin to open the box to pull out the console inside....low and behold..its filled with clothes. I look at my mom and she says "its your uncles old genesis box we used it for clothes" I'm thinking to myself WTF!?

Everyone is done opening gifts we proceed to have xmas breakfast...................then my mom busts out the genesis console and packing from the closet!

Yee.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 11/20/2010, 09:46 PMLook the socket over really good, especially the ground.
When you say socket, what are you referring to? The AV input port that I plug my AV cables into?

I am considering swapping the A/V port on the back with a one I know is working from another Saturn this afternoon

Trying to figure out what video/audio caps I need to replace on this. Any help is appreciated. Only thing I dont get is why the video AND audio doesn't work. Unless there is caps on this board that handle video and audio.. Also.. are all AV Cables (composite) for the saturn the same for JP, US, PAL? Same pins and everything?

It has to be a video cap or something. Is there any cap replacement charts in the Saturn Community? I just need to identify all the Video Caps on a JP Saturn and then I can replace them and I bet it will work.

Something like this:

I managed to swap a couple things on a US power board to make it work in place of the potential broken JP power board. I installed it (definitely working) - SAME PROBLEM. It does the EXACT same thing as before..

So yeah.. Definitely not the power board. WTF could it be?

I have a gray Model 1 Japanese Sega Saturn. You plug it in, power it up and everything looks to work just fine. The disc drive spins, you can hear it reading the disc and so on.

BUT, no video on the screen, no sound either. When you turn the Saturn on the video on the television flickers for a moment, but then it just stays black. I opened it up to look for anything obvious - anyone have any idea of what I can replace or look for?

It is being hooked up via the standard composite av cables that it comes with. I have also tried using the same power chord and av cables on my US Saturn and it works fine. So its clearly something internally with this. Any tips?

It has to be an easy fix if EVERYTHING else work perfectly.. ;/

Help is much appreciated. Thanks so much!

If you get desperate and decide to go with a standard US Duo.. I think henrycsc has a few repaired units he might be looking to trade / sell.  US duos are so slick lookin :P
Even after repaired, I though they were still terribly unreliable!?

Thanks!

My for sale thread is actually TOO BIG at the moment to put up here, so if you'd like to see it, you'll have to check it out over at Racketboy (thats where its the most up to date anyways):

There is an absurd amount of stuff in the thread..I know its a longshot..but if anyone sees enough to make a trade for a Duo-R, let me know too.

you already accidentally entered the drama. :)

Wtf do you got to trade?  Is it in that sale thread thing?

*goes and looks*

I ended up finding a sweet deal on a Turbo Grafx, which I just got in the mail today. I am going to keep my eye out for a Duo-R like you guys recommended.

I played Splatterhouse for about an hour this evening - TG16 controller feels hollow, it flexes when I press the buttons! Is there a "best" controller out there, or is the og TG16 the best one?

I really bought this to play R Type, don't really have any other games on my list at the moment - anyone recommend any MUST HAVES? I love shmups and any other great games.

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: Duo-R

Looking to buy a loose Duo-R. If you see anything in my sale/trade thread, let me know - I'd buy one outright though. PM me.

Also looking for an AVE 3 controller.

Thanks, and sorry for bumping so much guys, I didn't notice your posts asking me to stop.

I'll stick to updating my thread title to the respective date rather than incessant bumping. Thanks and sorry again!

#43
For sure, thanks for the info. So really the main reason to go for a Duo-R is because the JP versions of the games are significantly cheaper?
#44
So

Turbo Duo = USA
Duo R = JP

otherwise they are the same system?

I guess the only problem is that the games are then in Japanese.. :)
#45
Sounds like a Duo R is where its at. So what is the difference between the DUO R and the Turbo Duo? The DUO R is only available as a JP console right? Can I play NSTC games on it too?
#46
Whats the price on a DUO-R these days?
#47
hmmm...

sounds like I need an NEC history lesson
#48
I have never REALLY taken the time to seriously play any NEC console - what is the best one?

I love shmups, and really any great games!
