Whilst I did some gaming in the 8-Bit era (had an Amstrad CPC), although I liked to play on it, I find it hard to go back to 8-Bit stuff.  The same can be said of the 8-Bit consoles (bar a few stand out games).

The 16-Bit era has the consoles that I like the most - PC Engine, Snes and Neo Geo.

With that said the 16-Bit era continued long after the Playstation era, as the Neo still had releases as did other arcade hardware that I suppose could be lumped in with this era?

-Was CPS2 16-Bit?
-The CAVE CV1000 pcbs were much more powerful than the 16 Bit PGM hardware that preceded it.

I never like to use the generational classifications that are used, save as to say that there was a jump from 8 to 16 bit graphics and then a gradual peaking of 16 bit (style) 2d graphics well into the 000's.

I dare say that I am into the era of 2D pixel games that started from the PC Engine and ended with the last official Neo release, so that gives me 1987 - 2003.

Certain exceptions are made on the handheld format as I love the GB and the GG - although they do fall into my 87-03 window.

Thanks for the feedback.

The LT having built in controls may adda layer of potential issue.  However I had no problems at all with my other 6 button pad.

I used to use a Atari Lynx case with some bubble wrap inside.

Managed to test the joypad on my Core Grafx II and could not get any of the glitches that I saw on my LT.

Without any other LT to test the pad on, or another HFC pad, there must be something up with the combination of this pad with my LT.

Ok, this is a strange one.

By any chance has someone noticed any issues when using a Hori Fighting commander on any PCE hardware.

I recently picked up the HFC pad and tried it on my LT and noticed that I got strange button responses - like for some reason in SFII sometimes a punch would result in a kick or more noticeably when i jumped over to the P2 side I found that when I tried to do a dragon punch it paused the game or it never registered the punch button at all.

The weirdest thing that happened though was that I managed to get a 2 player game going somehow (no multi-tap was connected) and was able to control both players with the pad (and the LT controls).

I actually have a video of the latter;
Anyway, tests I did after this;

1) Plugged in a Avenue 6B pad - worked fine.
2) Used the HFC on my Duo - worked fine.
3) Tried the HFC with the Everdrive - had the same issue.

So it would seem that there is definitely an issue between the HFC and the LT.

Just thinking out loud here, maybe some earlier hardware configs weren't 100% compatible with all third party peripherals?  I didn't get round to testing a regular Core Grafx yet and perhaps that might show something as the hardware is similar to the LT.

The only other way to test it would be to try another HFC.

Oh dear, it's strange that this HuCard game is possibly prone to failing, wonder what change was made in manufacturing it that caused it.

I have ordered a replacement card, hopefully that one will last.

Hi guys, I think one of my HuCard's is fooked, but I am just putting this out there to see if it may be a sign of HuCards going 'off'.

Basically I was testing my LT the other day and I always have the same HuCard loose in the storage box that I use for the LT.  The game is PC Genjin 2.

Anyways, I plugged in the card and fired up the LT only to find the menu screen for the game having some random discoloured blocks on display.  I took out the card and cleaned the contacts and reinserted it, only to have the same issue.

You can play the game, and the blocky errors disappear, but then some character sprites seem to be affected.

I tried another game in the LT - as I was worried that my LT was playing up and the other game looked fine - as did several others.

I then tried PCG2 on my Duo and got exactly the same issue, so it is definitely the card that is playing up.

It looks like an issue that you would get if there was a duff contact, but I cleaned this thoroughly and to be honest it looked good to start with.

There are two possibilities I think;

1) A component or trace inside the HuCard has failed.
2) Whilst loose in the box with the LT, there was some plastic foam that is used to protect the LT, this could easily generate static, and may have caused a short.

If anyone has experienced this before, let me know.

Fair enough guys, I won't keep on about it.

T'is a discussion forum mind, now't wrong with a bit of back and forth.

Ok maybe collecting NIB Tamiya stuff can get out of hand, like any other hobby, but it would be pretty nice to find a mint unopened 80's Tamiya kit, I can certainly see the appeal of having an untouched kit for posterity, or buying a vintage kit in order to just make it and display it on the shelf.

I used to have a Tamiya Madcap back in the day and I had nearly as much fun making the thing, it was great to make my own working little car from bits - that way you knew exactly  what to do when stuff broke.

Unfortunately Tamiya must have made a small fortune from me, as certain plastic parts use to break too easily, got knows how many Tamiya front ends I went through!

To be fair, whilst I like Tamiya, their stuff was not really build to last, I think I went on to get a Schaumacher (sp) and  that thing was built proper, (alu chassis, better plastics etc) and that was more economic in the long run.

Funny how nostalgia works though, I think I am going to try to get another Tamiya kit for old times sake and maybe never run it!

Pretty much every forum out there, not stuck in the past allows for guest browsing.

I can't be arsed to sign in on every occasion just because I want a quick look at the forums.

Yes I could save my password on each device that I use to browse the net, but is that really necessary?

Its not as if I want my voice broadcast across the net like some attention seeker, I don't care who does or does not read what I say.

The same goes for those that are not keen on their content filtering out into the ether - we are posting info about an 80/90's Japanese gaming system what on earth would you be saying that you would rather be kept quiet?

The way I see it, is that lots of specialist sites do a disservice to themselves by shutting down the doors, example I found out some really useful info on candy cabs from Arcade Otaku before I even signed up because most of its content was not locked away.  I then signed up straight away - not that I had too.  Lots of members there did the same thing, then joined up and added to the information and the site grew and grew - not so much in size, but in the depth of content.

On the other hand, I'm sure I got some great info about PC Engine power supplies from here - but only after I had signed up and searched.  Ok you might say you will then only get those that are really interested to follow through, but come on, who has the time to do that for every interest that you may have?

You can still have sections of the forum locked away for registered members only, and that I think is the best way, have sales and other such stuff in members only and have the rest available for anyone.

I have read what you lot who are pro-closed have had to say, but I just can't agree with it, all it really does  I suppose is keep the number of new spam posters down - people who stumble across stuff on a forum, join up and spam the place, but its not as if you can't manage that worse than other similar niche sites.

Suppose I'll have to agree to disagree, no offence like.

Very few places do this.

It's completely unnecessary and it's the reason I only post like once a year.

Granted I'm no amazing poster, but it's a retarded policy.

Hi,

I have a GT with the 'screen on but no picture' issue - screen is black (but lit), sound works etc.

Is there anyone in the UK that does the Cap replacement?

Thanks.

I also found this one, but I'm sure that there was a much bigger one;

Sorry for bumping another dead thread.

I only got this app last year or at least before the app was pulled (for no good reason).

Unfortunately it is very tempramental and crashes a lot, plus it doesn't seem to remember the games that I bought.

There was a hack that someone did for this, where you could run all the games, by swapping a plist file (jp.co.hudson.t16box01.plist), problem is that I can't find the file online at all.

Did anyone find another way to hack this?
