I played through the Super CD version quite a few years ago.  I liked it, but it definitely wasn't as enjoyable as Revenge for me.  Perhaps maybe if they had continued the series like they did with Adventure Island, it could have become something more interesting.

That being said, it's still a great game.

It says if you have waited to buy a Turbo CD, how is the time to do it. Look for specially marked Turbo CD boxes with a sticker on them for the pack in CD+G disks.  It also says they have a "suggested retail value of $19.99".  I kind of doubt they sold them separately though.  Also, the way it's written suggests that original units didn't come with it.

Yeah, I have that pamphlet.  I had just never seen most of the items for sale on there for real.  I suppose all of them were produced, but there can't be many of them out there.  Those turbo wallets are pretty cool too.  Got to love the bright orange and green early '90s motif.

Yeah, I was definitely on that list in the later days, but not early enough to receive these. I found this post looking around, and incidentally there is that gym bag, and also, he has a picture of one of the three TurboEdge newsletters we have already seen.

I'm going to assume there are only three until someone proves otherwise.  But you are right, surely someone knows here.

Nice binder!  I've got a similar amount of paperwork, but it's not all together right now.  This page, I'm sure you have seen it before, https://archives.tg-16.com/turbografx_magazines.htm lists 3 issues. And that's all I've ever seen on the subject.

On a seperate note, that's a pretty funky gym bag.  I wonder if that was ever made, and how many of those are out there...

Thank you for the info!

Well, I have Fall '91, and Spring '92.  The scan shows Spring '91.  So I will assume the fourth volume is Winter '91?

I guess this kind of went on to become TurboForce?  Since those were also sent to registered owners as far as I remember.

I wonder why these are so hard to get a hold of?  It's decently easy to get TurboForce, except maybe the later two issues.

Quote from: PukeSter on 08/19/2016, 09:46 AMIt would be nice to pool together our resources to get the game someday and dump it. What would the cost be at this point? $10,000? At least we know that "Japan Game Preservation Society" guy has it.
If this is the case I can ask him directly about it.  It might be a couple months until I see him again, I'm not sure.  For now, the main priority of the preservation society is things that are being lost quickly due to bad medium; old pc floppies and such.  If he does have a copy, rest assured it will not be lost.

So I have a pretty good collection of turbografx magazines and pamphlets.  I always knew there was a newsletter called TurboEdge, but I had never seen it, and began to think it was just a rumor.  There are apparently 3 issues.

Just recently, I was able to acquire two of the issues.  Fall '91 and Spring '92.  It looks like NEC published themselves right before the time of TTI.  I suppose that is why this didn't continue?

Can anyone tell me who maybe received these back in the day where they came from?  Were they something you had to subscribe to?  Were they just given out to people on some sort of list?  What is the 3rd issue I do not have?  I've linked some quick pictures of the covers for anyone who wants to see them, or to give a better idea what I'm talking about.

I really like the publications from the era.  Gives you a good idea of the marketing and some of the decisions that they were making.

There is no welcoming me.  I have been here much longer than most of the people active on here.  I had another account many years ago.  Anyway, I guess people are just bored or something.  I just don't like seeing people justifying themselves, be it because they want to buy something, or because they said something shitty to someone.

I have now decided to continue to be here, if only to piss off "Gentlegamer".

A bit late maybe.  I just don't post much, as I don't have so much to say honestly.  I just think this kind of thing hurts more than helps.  Like you had said earlier, I just felt a little fed up.

My point is strengthened.  If only a tad.  Too much negativity.
#13
It seems to me like there is way too much bullying that goes on here.  The guy lowered his price, even though he had every right to charge whatever price he wants.  Likewise, nobody is forced to buy it.  Who cares if people collect this stuff?  It's not going to stop going up in value just become some fans who like to talk about how cool the games are deem it to be too expensive.

There is way too much negativity here.  Attacking someone personally is just uncalled for.

There are a ton of different options, and it all just depends on what kind of money you are willing to put down, and what systems you will be using.

I myself use an XRGB Mini, and an RGB modded Duo-RX.

The XRGB is extremely good, but it comes at a high cost.  On the flip-side, it will work with any console that outputs RGB.  I think it's the best option for people who want to use and HD TV, and do a lot of retro gaming.

The Duo R works is effectively exactly the same, and is cheaper.  There are also now no-mod cables that work with the ext port on PC Engine or Turbografx-16 machines.  I haven't used them, but they seem to output good quality RGB.  The downside is no CD games.

If you are just wanting to plug the system into some sort of HDMI adapter, it kind of depends on the tv you use, and what kind of upscaling capability it has built in.  One thing is for sure.  It will not be as pretty.  If you use normal composite cables, even if you put them into an HDMI adapter, it will still be composite video.

Another option is to run an emulator on your PC and play them through your tv.  I don't like it personally, but it's the cheapest way and I'm sure there are plenty of people on these boards who do that.

This is a really awesome project.  Can't wait to see it when it's all complete.

I think it's just great.  Amazing quality and clearly marked as a reproduction.  I wouldn't be against another run of Keith Courage by the way!

Quote from: TheClash603 on 06/28/2016, 01:16 AMIs there any evidence however to show that these three games were primarily sold in Hawaii and not in the states?
Good point.  Just because they are all about "Hawaii" doesn't mean they are from there.  Although I would tend to believe that they were considering all that I have seen in Japan.  Just who was Excite Corp. anyway..  I don't have my copies with me.  Does the packaging or software have a date or anything on it?
#19
I would also like to know the origin of these.  Were there even fans of the Duo in Hawaii at the time?  I can't imagine a huge amount of games were even shipped over there.

Interestingly enough, I live in Japan and I actually picked up one of these games in Akihabara for about $10 a couple years ago.  I have also seen them on Yahoo auctions from time to time.  Currently there are two of them on there.

This leads me to believe that they were at least partly intended for the Japanese market, or at least tourists in Hawaii, as they were more likely to have a Duo and/or be more willing to purchase porn like that.

In any case, anyone have a spare of Hawaii Island Girls?  It's the last one I need :D

It would be so nice to have numbers like this.  I don't see why companies don't go back and offer sales numbers from their past.

Surely someone from Hudson or NEC in Japan has an idea of sales numbers for systems and games...

I feel like companies don't want to release this information, and thus its just eventually becomes lost forever.  It's kind of a shame.

I don't see any harm in somebody wanted to complete their collection.  He gets enjoyment out of it, whatever his reasons may be.  The Turbografx is expensive because it is hard stuff to find, and it is probably the best failed system to have ever existed.  It's not some conspiracy about people who are buying up all the games and screwing over the "real fans".

I honestly think its a bit sad that he is simply asking for the games he needs, and gets so much negativity.  I also don't think he needs to justify it like he has.

Some of this negativity towards collecting comes off as jealousy to me.

I think everyone should abstain for 67 weeks!

I'd like to take part.  I've never seen this before.

Unfortunately I'm away from my Turbo for the time being, but if I was playing it, I want to spend more time on Time Cruise.  I absolutely love that game.  I personally enjoyed it more than Alien/Devil's Crush.  Anyone else like it that much?  Just me?

I'm curious to see if anyone had any ideas on how to better protect my Turbografx games.  I use nice quality resealable covers for my Super CD games, and games that came in a regular jewel case originally.  The problem is, the Turbografx boxes are nothing short of a funky size, and I can't seem to find a good cover for them.  I use DVD resealable covers for my genesis games, but those are too thin and long to fit them.  Any suggestions?

I'm finally in the position I would like to be in to offer money for finding these rare gems. I will pay what they are worth, I'm not looking to get these on the cheap. I'm looking for what was stated in my title:

Dynastic Hero (this is what I want the most right now)
Magical Chase
Bonk 3 (Hu card version)

Games must be complete and in excellent to mint condition. For the Hu cards, they must have the outer box, plastic tray, and manuals.

If you have any of these games and are interested in selling them, or even trading (I live in Japan and can find many rare games, etc.) I would love to hear about it. Please PM me.

There are also a few manuals and boxes I would like to find, so here is hoping if you have a few laying around.  Here are the ones that I am missing:

Boxes:

Jackie Chan (Have one, but it is in bad shape)
Super Star Soldier
Sinistron
Aero Blasters
Tale Spin
Boxy Boy
Cadash
Dragon's Curse
Legendary Axe II
R-Type
Talespin
It Came from the Desert

Also, I doubt anyone has them around separate, but here is hoping.  I need the outer slip for both Vasteel and Exile: WP

Manuals:

Shockman
New Adventure Island
Jackie Chan
Legend of Hero Tonma

Accesories:

Boxed Duo Tap
Boxed Duo Controller

Other than a couple I have the boxes for already, and I can get on the cheap on ebay, with case.  This will 100% compete my US Collection.  I am mostly looking for those 3 games on top right now.  If you have a particularly good box, or a few of the boxes and manuals, please feel free to get in touch.  I have also put in bold what is most important to me.

Thank you!
