10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Alshark is quite reminiscent of Fang of Alnam, another traditional-style RPG released by Right Stuff. Both games feature excellent battle systems, but they share the misfortune of being plagued by abysmal visuals, and neither lives up to its vast potential. The soundtrack, which travels a back-and-forth line between goofy and generic.

Also, the seller took a picture of his chocolate cake and printed it on the cover?
He clearly does not give a shit about his product.

Are you really this naive and/or retarded?

I am thinking about it. But man, this game does sound terrible. However, hearing all the negative things has sparked my interest.
Anyone tried tackling this beast? Your thoughts?

Quote from: gbapalyer on 12/11/2012, 02:06 AMand don´t forget to buy and play through legend of xanadu 1+2, startling odyssey 2, dragon knight 2, tenshi no uta 1+2, star breaker, tengai makyou manjimari and so on. all freakin awesome rpgs.
Didn't care for LoX too much. The constant backtracking became really annoying. I kinda stopped playing on chapter 7. However, I did finish LoX2.

@Arkhan

I will send giant Mario from New Mario Brothers to stomp on Kung Fu.

Thanks for the suggestion. Also bought Burai 1 & 2 because people on this forum love these games.
#15
So how many copies are still remaining?
#16
Bought some cheap RPGs from Hit-Japan ebay, and I was wondering If it's possible to go through these without help of a guide or any knowledge of Japanese. I tried searching for a guide, but there seem to none available at this time.

Blood Gear

Cosmic Fantasy 4 Chapter 2

Necromancer

Sol Moonarge

Susa-no-Oh Densetsu (picture included for reference)

What are your thoughts on Vasteel 2?

I recently saw the only gameplay video on YouTube on this game, and the music had me hooked. Soulful Pc-engine soundtrack...love it.

How is the game? Will I be able to sail through it If I don't know Japanese?

I really wanna grab a copy of this one. The music rocks.
#19
but it sounds more like the tightness of the receiving pins within the unit are worn and don't make good contact after the cable is fully inserted.

I believe this is the problem. But I will try cleaning the contacts.
#20
Quote from: SignOfZeta on 05/30/2012, 02:35 AMDo you have an original cable or one of those pieces of crap TZD was selling a while back?
I am using this AV cord for my Duo-R.

IMG
#21
Quote from: turbokon on 05/29/2012, 03:05 PMMight just need to resolder the joints to the pcb.
I will look into that. But When I partly insert the AV cable into the port, it works fine.
#22
The video becomes fuzzy on my PC engine Duo from time to time, so I need to replace the AV port.

How can do this? I can't find any help on the internet.
#23
hmm...yeah.....heard the game itself is pretty mediocre. Even if I don't get a good deal, I think I won't be missing much. I think.
#24
Yeah...Rayxanber III isn't too hot in terms of game play. But the graphics are sweet.
#25
I remember someone saying they see copies in japan for 60 bucks or something. Can anyone from japan consider helping a fellow PCE fan.

Can anyone spare me a copy for an acceptable price?

Complete copy would be preferred.

Thanks in advance.

I suck at new first person shooters.

Sounds like you are taking a indirect (cheap) shot at me.
As a fan, I have been collecting Pc-Engine games over the past several years, so it makes no fucking sense for me to sell my Pc-Engine.
I still like the system.

Off-Topic / Best Sega CD shooter?
02/29/2012, 01:55 AM
I havta say Robo Aleste is #1 because of the awesome music, story and gameplay.

Silpheed is close second, because of the great twitch game play.

Android assault is pretty good too, with some rocking tunes; it's at number 3.
#31
Oh ya, I will go back to them eventually, because I love shooters and teh PCE. But these days I am totally hooked on the Saturn, and I do enjoy the crazy "edge of your seat" type game play.
#32
Quote from: RegalSin on 02/28/2012, 09:17 PMI understand, but the Saturn is one big censored flip-flop system, that breifly took the place of the PCE, along with the Playstation. The Saturn is a 3d system, with two proccessors. The PCE can do every single 2d feet the Saturn gave to us, if they only tried.
What? Not possible! Let me see Pc-Engine handle stage 2 of Galactic attack/Layer Section.
#33
Don't get me wrong, I still love some shooters like Sapphire, Lords of thunder, Nexzr and various other CD shmups.

But Hucard games seem to suffer the most for me.

I guess PCE shmups are more fair in terms of difficulty and gameplay, whereas Saturn shmups throw everything at you but the kitchen sink.
#34
I recently got into Sega Saturn, and started collecting shmups for it.
I must say, after playing games like Darius Gaiden, Sōkyūgurentai, Dodonpachi, Batsugun and Battle Garegga, I am having hard going back to the PCE shmups.
They seem dated to me now in terms of presentation and game play. Anyone feel the same?

Had 16 lives in stock when I finished this game.

I can't get the story to progress. I am on map 6 (I think), where you go through this plant cave in order to reach a town surrounded by mountains.

I am at the part where monsters invade the town where you begin your quest and you have to find the runaway villagers. I found all the villagers, but the game is not progressing. I talked to everyone and searched every bit of the map, and no luck.

Honestly, you shouldn't have ordered the Japanese Dynastic Hero, because you won't be able to get past the questioning cat. I think Wonderboy in Monster Land for the Sega Genesis should have been a better choice for you. I regret buying the jap version of DH.

Quote from: RegalSin on 12/27/2011, 09:33 PMI just want to know what the original poster, found so displeasing about the music in Neo-metal.
It's not repetitive, it's just lifeless. I do like the map themes (there are 2), and few other tunes played in the town area.  I also like the "sad" theme played from time to time. But that's it. I was especially disappointed with the battle and boss theme, something I look forward to hearing in any RPG. Overall, the music doesn't leave a lasting impression on the player. It's there to get the job done, and in that regard N.M.F. composers accomplished that task. I've already listed some examples of good RPG soundtracks in my original post.
#46
Kabuki Den music is good from what I heard. Have yet to try Anearth stories.
#47
I am talking about Tenshi no Uta Super CD game.

I am at the point where you fight a boss in the snow cave, and a cut scene is suppose to play after the battle.
After that, one character leaves your party and you obtain a blue tear shaped object.

But the cut scene didn't play and the character didn't leave my party. Moreover, I can't pick up the blue object even after beating the boss.

I back tracked to every town I consider relevant to my progress and talked to everyone, and still no progress.

Can anyone help? Duomazov Guide is of no use either.
#48
I've played through Neo Metal Fantasy (great RPG BTW, very underrated), and currently trying to tackle Tenshi no Uta (Not bad so far).

While, these RPGS deliver the graphics and the game play, the music is sadly lacking. I only found 2-3 tracks in NMF worthy of being called decent, and rest mostly forgettable. The music in T.N.U. isn't any better, and features the most obnoxious battle theme I've ever heard in a RPG.

In other words, the music merely gets the job done.

Are there any PCE RPGs that have exceptional music? At least something comparable to Lufia 2, PS IV, Dungeon explorer, and DQ 5.
