12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Quote from: guest on 05/21/2013, 03:31 PMI've got an extra one with three controllers, installed expansion pack, save cart, mario 64, zelda OoT, perfect dark goldeneye and rouge squadron.  I've been trying to sell it on CL for awhile and would normally be up for trade but I just got an email about it the other day, if the dude is just a tire kicker I will let you know and I bet we can work something out.
Cool let let me know how it turns out! I can trade you a refurbished Duo with games or something like that if it sounds good to you. PM me the details when you know what is up!

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB/T N64

Hey guys, I was never into the system myself but when my friends come by a lot of people want to play some N64 games. Anyone have a system with cables/controllers to trade? I've got a ton of PCE hardware to trade for it, and pretty much every other console out there. Let me know!!

Do want

I know it's totally broken but I actually enjoyed Takeda Shingen. Think I managed to beat it too, if I remember correctly, but I might have used a cheat code or trick to do so.

Sorry for the triple posting, didn't mean to spam top the forums, but since my auctions were for three different systems I posted in the appropriate forums. I wasn't sure how my Turbo dudes check the PCE sale threads for instance. I never really look at the Turbob sale forum since I don't collect for that system.

Also I have posted all of these games here before, gone back and forth with various members who had offers, tried to work out trades, etc, that never panned out, but I just don't have the spare time to do that these days so just tossed them on eBay so don't have to worry about it. I know eBay prices tend to be crazy but I've gotten some awesome deals there, so who knows, maybe these wont go that high.

In short sorry to be a bother, I just wanted to let you guys know as I've had members from this forum express interest in these very titles before. Carry on my brothers!

Quote from: Samurai Ghost on 02/08/2013, 12:07 AMHey guys, I know a lot of you aren't keen on auctions but I just don't have the time to set up sales these days and have a few dupes I wanted to sell, including Hi-Leg Fantasy. It's a fun game, quite hard to find, especially in such good shape! Check it out if you are interested, along with a few other rare games I have up, including Local Girls of Hawaii, Battle Garegga (Saturn), D&D Collection (Saturn)

Ah, glad you're still around!
DOUBLE POST!!!!

Yeah, I still drop by to read this forum but my life has been nuts these days!! Barely have time for gaming outside of breaks during work, but I'm gonna get a projector and hook up some PCE to it for massive wall-exploding action!!!

Well I'm sure there are a few FAQd online that can help you if you get stuck!

Hey guys, just letting you know I tossed The Local Girls of Hawaii on eBay with an $8.99 start.

I know some of you guys are looking for this one so I figured I'd post it here.
I know a lot of you don't like eBay, but been too busy to set up sales for this kind of stuff, and this one has just been sitting in a box. Thanks for looking! I have a couple other rare games up for auction as well.

Monster Pro Wrestling (hey, I like it, OK?!)

Quote from: JKM on 11/29/2012, 12:49 PMIs that shipped? If so, that seems like a fair price, especially if it's in good shape. SFCs are pretty inexpensive in Japan, but shipping is always a bitch.
Yeah I bought mine for $3.50.

I've got a ton of IFU and PCE set ups

The OG Duo looks the best! What a sexy beast! The DUOR is a solid system but looks kind of like a 90's Ford sedan to me.

Quote from: CPU64 on 09/20/2012, 01:04 AMBack on topic, I wish some of the audio in games came through the headset. Like radio transmissions in Battlefield, or whenever Cortana talks to you in Halo campaign
We generally don't make headsets, and I never use them myself, but it's true audio doesn't come through them? That seems odd to me.

Quote from: Nando on 09/20/2012, 09:47 AMSo can Hori not work as a DBA or with another company to manufacture top of the line converters? Some folks with multiple systems but not enough resources to buy multiple sticks for their systems would buy them. Obviously lots of bidness research would have to be done to see if it would be profitable/legal.

Anyway, not sure if Hori does it yet but what about controllers and interfaces for kids with disabilities?
Well generally I don't think it would make sense for us to make converters with the licensing issues it would create and the fact that we would rather sell more controllers than a cheap converter. There are plenty of converters out there though! As for controllers for disabilities, we've been approached by people regarding that before, but unfortunately I think it's just too much of a niche market to be practical. I'm sure some custom controller maker/modder could do something like that though!

Quote from: soop on 09/20/2012, 10:25 AMHow about this; say you had a SNES pad with a lead (or wireless maybe) to go to a certain system.  Now, you know those circles on the SNES pad, where the buttons go?  Imagine you could turn it a quarter circle and pop it out, and then put in a 3 button module in the Genesis layout, or pop in a 2 button rapid-fire unit for PCE games.
Now that's an awesome idea! I've been trying to push for the retro style controllers as you know I'm a fan. HORI made an SNES style controller for the GC, and there could be one in the works for the Wii/Wii U, but it just depends on how much interest it would garner. I think it would be a great product, and if you could customize the button layout that would be great!

I got a GT with bad caps for about $65 on Yahoo Auction at some point. Came with the TV tuner and a few games as well.

I'd like to enter if it's still open!

Thanks for the comments JKM! I agree that our screen filters are top notch. And I'm happy HORI keeps the quality high and would love to see some luxury sticks and controllers. I think HORI sticks are some of the best money can buy, and the VLX Premium sticks are just amazing peices of kit. It's really like someone just dropped a Japanese arcade cabinet panel in your lap. Too bad they are out of production at the moment. I hope more stuff like this comes out, but as for now I have to say the Fighting Edge sticks are pretty damn awesome. They just reek quality and are amazing to use, not to mention looking slick as hell. Not to sound like a commercial here but I just love them. If the Edge does well in the US we can expect to see more top of the line sticks in the future.

Quote from: Deletion on 09/04/2012, 08:06 PMMake this a reality.

It's funny but when I was reviewing all of the past product proposals, one of the design guys at the Japanese head office had proposed this! A boob controller. I pushed for it but I don't think it will see the light of day unfortunately.

As for the dual mod issue, it's not possible due to legal issues. Almost everything HORI makes is officially licensed by Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Namco, etc., so it's just not possible for us to make sticks compatible with multiple systems. Qanba just doesn't give a crap about any of this and does whatever it wants to without regards to licensing issues or legality, but I agree it would be convenient to have a stick that works on multiple systems without lag issues from converters. I had an XBOX/PS2/GC compatible Soul Calibur 2 stick but it was a piece of crap. So at the time I just bought converters for my homemade PS stick.

Would love to see a Saturn style pad out for the current consoles. There's something in the works that is along those lines though so I hope it garners enough interest with retailers to go into production.

Hey guys, been really busy these days and unable to post much, but I had a question for you all. If you could design any kind of controller or accessory for the current generation of systems (including handhelds) what would it be?

The reason I ask is that I work for a work for a major 3rd party accessory maker (HORI if you're curious, who have made a few controllers for the PCE in the past) and we have meetings with the main designers every month to pitch new product ideas for the US and European market. These days we mostly make fighting sticks, controllers, cases, and screen protectors, but anything is game! Especially stuff for the Wii U. I'll pitch any good ideas to them and who knows, maybe your idea will be manufactured and available in stores one day! If it is I'll be sure to send you a free sample.

I know this sounds like I'm trying to get you guys to do my work for me, but I figured I'd ask here since you guys are pretty creative and know your stuff!

Yeah, I was about to say, I've never seen the Girly games boxes. They have the bare minimum of packaging with only a one-sided insert and slim jewel case.

I found Retro Friends and Traders 2 to be the best for PCE stuff. Retro Friends especially. I usually bought stuff online though.

Hi Leg Fantasy happens to be pretty expensive even in Japan, but I have an extra copy if you are interested.

Two awesome games!!

Damn, build a house out of x68ks!

I picked up some more SMS stuff. SMS 4 lief!!!
Outrun 3D in particular is one I've been wanting to get for a long while.

Where there's a will there's a way. The face of piracy will always change, but it will always be there. Each of these sites/trackers/apps will just be blips on a long line of file-sharing methods tracing their roots back to the old BBS days.

Quote from: esteban on 08/03/2012, 07:23 AMIn Samurai Ghost, I thought the "witch" simply cackled and threw an odd insult (in Japanese) to taunt you.

But upon closer inspection, it turns out she says:

"Little fly, thy summer's play,
My careless hand has brushed away,
Am not I a fly like thee?
Or art not thou a man like me?
For we dance and play and drink and sing,
'til some blind hand shall brush our wing."

Pretty kool.
Love me some Blake

Quote from: Duo_R on 08/03/2012, 08:46 PMgot the gear today and installed in on a JP unit, man this thing is working like a champ now! Thank a ton. I have also noticed the load time differnce, like when the game normally pauses in Gates of Thunder when the bosses load, it is noticeably faster!

I do want to upgrade my spindle unit to the "snap-in" kind so if anyone has one that is compatible let me know.
Glad you got it working man!!
#40
Yeah the ones where the girls wear tight outfits.
#41
I've got a copy of Bonk 2 like that, but I guess I could make a keychain out of it.

You should make a giant keychain out of Baseball Stars, lock your bathrooms with a key, and then hand visitors the giant Baseball Stars keychain so they don't steal the bathroom key like in a convenience store!
#42
R-Type is really good for this. I tend to reset if I die anyway, so if I can beat it I can beat it, if not, I try again. Either way it's a quick game.
#43
Yeah that makes sense, as well as it's popularity.

But at least there are enough worthless Famicom carts to make a throne out of them:

Been collecting a lot of SMS stuff these days and I'm looking to fill out my collection. If you have any SMS stuff you want to sell or trade let me know! I have a lot of PC Engine and Sega Saturn stuff available for trade. I don't want any loose carts, but missing instructions are OK. In particular I am looking for:

Golden Axe Warrior
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Fire and Forget II
Power Strike II
Sagaia
Alex Kidd in Shinobi World
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Battle OutRun
Lord of the Sword
Assault City
Shadow of the Beast
Missile Defense 3D
Any Brazilian releases

If you have any of these titles or some excess SMS games shoot me a PM. Thanks!
#45
Whats weird is how Mario/Duck Hunt is such a worthless common cart in the US yet is usually pretty expensive in Japan. You're lucky to find one under $5, and it's usually more if you go to a used game shops. Boxed ones are even more obviously.

Quote from: kazekirifx on 08/01/2012, 08:42 PMHow many females do you know in real life who are really interested in retro games?
My girlfriend likes retro games, or at least playing them with me. Really old stuff mainly, she seems to like the SG-1000 games the best. There are tons of cute games for that system like Hustle Chumy, Girl's Garden, etc. Seems like girls and non-gamers in general tend to like retro games more than modern ones because they are colorful and fun, easy to pick up, and don't take a lot of time/explanation to get into. We'd have Bomberman tournies at my place all the time and the girls would always play.

Quote from: guest on 08/01/2012, 09:33 AMThat's just plain crazy (the VGA graded Zelda is equally nutty), especially since there's no proof of it being legit.  Other than needing plenty of upfront cash, what would stop someone from making hundreds of these things?
Well if you look at the PCB it looks pretty legit but I suppose you could fake that too.

I think a part of it has to do with the origin of Japanese gaming, which is of course arcade games. There are tons of Japanese arcade games from the 70's and early 80's made by all the big gaming companies of today, and these games were made for both the domestic and international markets. So rather than making two versions, they made one English one. Most of the text in the games were limited to things like "Stage 1" "Game Over" and the like, and since it was understood everywhere and looked cool to Japanese kids they stuck with it. You do see some pretty good Engrish from time to time though.

This tradition carried over into the home console market where the ROMs were identical across the world. A game like Balloon Fight is the same wherever you buy it. Later on when games started having more elaborate stories and menus it made sense to write these in the country's native language, but simple stuff like title screens, high score screens, etc, remain in English.

In the 90's a lot of Japanese game companies started messing around with title screens and the like writing everything in cutesy hiragana. Puyo Puyo is a good example of this. Or games with strictly Japanese themes like Samurai Ghost make an effort to use absolutely no western characters in the game. Even the score is written in kanji rather than Arabic numerals in that game.

Quote from: Samurai Ghost on 08/01/2012, 11:52 PMI dunno, I like the Genesis cover. The art is good and it uses one of the most iconic backgrounds and places one of the main heroes against the boss. They are in the middle of battle with Bison looking like he has the upper hand but still a chance for Guile to come back. Plus Guile's hair looks like it could actually exist in real life. The PCE/Mega Drive cover art is cool but it's American cover that's actually not too bad for once.
Yeah, it's not too bad.  Plus the UK Megadrive cover is the same as the PC Engine cover.

Does anyone actually still play Street Fighter II anymore?  I played it a couple of days ago on the PCE, and I've played it this year on the MD.  I love the game, though I think Alpha 3 is my favorite.  And I like 3rd strike too.
Yeah I love playing the Super Street Fighter II on the Saturn with friends. It's the kind of game EVERYONE has played so it's fun for anyone. Even random non-gamer girls usually are familiar with Street Fighter and can at least button mash through a few rounds. For serious gaming I generally prefer Alpha 3 or Third Strike but fewer people are familiar with those games.
