RIP to BT Garner of MindRec.com... He passed away early 2023 from health problems. BT was one of the top PCE homebrew developers and founder of the OG Turbo List, then PCECP.com. Condolences to family and friends.

Quote from: Freeway2 on 04/12/2018, 09:25 PMThat's a game I would love to learn more about. Is there a site that has translations for it anyone. I was going to nominate one but that one caught my interest.
If you've played nes river city ransom, you should have no issues. Same map layout and everything!

Cool soop!

My favorite pce knockoff is the "Super engine II", looks like an snes, even has cartridges. Some of the game choices are odd though, can't believe they brought over Lost Sunheart.

I nominate River City Ransom

NEC Avenue was cool overall but they outsourced to multiple teams

Darius Plus is still an incredible port, so is after burner 2 and rainbow islands. They were vital for so many 3rd party games on the system, including getting an exclusive capcom platformer (sonson 2)

Quote from: SmaMan on 04/11/2018, 06:25 PMWasn't there also a MegaMan homebrew port pcedev made a while back? I remember poking around with it back in the day. Now that I have a Super SD System 3 I've been trying to find it again, but alas, all links to it seem to lead nowhere.
There are a bunch of 1:1 nes ports, most are by Bonknuts here, such as Megaman 1, megaman 2, jackal and castlevania. There's a 15 in 1 rom containing Super Mario Bros and some other games, which is much older and not as accurate (colors and high pitch).

Quote from: Digi.k on 04/11/2018, 01:10 PMNinja spirit seems to be shooting up a bit too
Madou monogatari is a CD game ?
One of the very last pc engine games.

The genesis version was the last genny game released in Japan

I love Dynasty Wars, just a shame no co-op or difficulty options. I like the chip music too, and I love how despite a lack of parallax, the backgrounds are very lengthy and don't repeat tiles (like what Renny Blaster and those cutscenes in Ys IV).

Unrelated but can Turbo be added to Street Fighter 2 champion edition? If not the extra moves (air hurricane kick is awesome), at least adjustable speed?
#8
Correct me if I'm wrong NW, but weren't you about to defriend nullify first?

I'm still regretful about Bigus but I did apologize, long ago.

How many times are you going to say strawman argument or twisting my words, with every, or most of the guys you're disagreeing with here?? It's a broken record at this point.

I would like to be friendly with you but personally, it's hard to get along with a, lack of better term, keyboard warrior
#9
Constant? I wouldn't say. Unlike other do-oh-filers here I've largely held my peace. I haven't written multiple paragraphs directly to you like others here.

I joined pcefx 6 years ago, which isn't much in the grand scheme of things but it was also long before you became an admin.

Again, disagreeing is not necessarily bullying. I get that DarkKobold likes to get riled up but I fail to see how Desh is somehow a bully.

Of course, if this really is about loyalty, I'm not going to be loyal to someone who called my friend sirhc "one of the most useless members of the site". I mostly come here to talk about the games, not side with the higher ups.
#10
NW, do you see yourself as some kind of counterpuncher?

Is every duo phile user who disagrees with you somehow a bully?
#12
The River City Ransom remake is very, very pricey, easily $150+. Shame more people haven't tried it.

All those late CD-Rom Capcom ports by NEC Avenue (Dynasty Wars, Strider, Chiki Chiki Boys, Forgotten Worlds), are well above $70 each...especially if you want a complete Forgotten Worlds (with Avenue Pad 3)

Deadite, it's been a while! I hope you are doing well but it seems you're triggered over a mere thread unrelated to you. Sorry Deadite, we all got different opinions. Sapphire isn't bad at all but I prefer other pc engine shooters. I literally do not care about price.

If you really want to get nasty with me, go back to your doujin X68k shooters. I may not be the oldest member on the board, or live in a tiny apartment in Japan, but I've been playing pce for a solid decade now. I know what games I like, what games I love, and what games I don't care about at this point.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, you get some unconventional opinions from all types of people. Some people prefer Dracula X snes over Rondo on pce. But everybody has their tastes.

Quote from: jperryss on 04/07/2018, 08:54 AMNevermind, won't work on an Everdrive.
hopefully you can get it working. This guy has it workin on real hardware

#15
What kind of genres do you like OP? Any classic series?

The PCE library is smaller than the other 16-bit systems but it's really surprising what kind of games you can find on it sometimes.
#16
super GNG has a patch that fixes the slowdown. It works on real hardware

https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3473/

Didn't R-type 3 perform way better than r-type 2?
#17
Don't mean to sound like a troll, but I've always been curious about this for years.

Sapphire has some cool looking boss fights, and the first stage has some crazy effects. But to be honest I think Nexzr and Gate of Thunder both look nicer. A lot of Saphire's later levels are somewhat plain and lack parallax (I don't wanna sound like Black Falcon but it's true.)

Do people put Sapphire on a pedastal due to the price tag? Is it because the Arcade Card had not much on it? With Fatal Fury Special, the pce port is still better than the snes one because of sound, sprite size and difficulty level, but FFS snes definitely has nicer backgrounds overall. It's not a total wash.
#18
Been replaying megaman games lately, my favorite nes games. Played through 4 yesterday and 5 today. Also played through 4 Minus Infinity, which is an outstanding remake/hack
#19
Anybody ever play this? It's an amazing hack of Megaman 4 that adds incredible weapons, awesome level design, throwbacks, new bosses, new music, and all sorts of new stuff. Even has time trials and boss endurance modes when you beat the game. And an extremely customizable difficulty menu.

https://sites.google.com/site/rockman4mi/
https://youtu.be/ikgbq-JXpFQ
http://www.shopflashbackgames.com/rockman-4-minus-infinity-p-196.html

I've also tried to the other "best" megaman romhacks, Rockman CX and Rockman No Constancy, and both of those have ridiculous difficulty and inconsistent art style.

Quote from: Psycho Punch on 04/01/2018, 08:35 PMWait, is this an actual thing? I came here thinking you were mocking the Wikipedia page but with those TGXCD codes you added to the thread I'm not sure if this is a serious question.
It takes a real "Sherlock Holmes" to figure out the codes :)

Quote from: wildfruit on 04/01/2018, 07:52 PMI looked at snapchat once. I really don't understand it. What purpose does it serve? Am I too old to understand it?
snapchat was originally for sexting, but now it's basically the "photo" version of facebook. You make updates (stories) constantly, which always refresh. You can either send each other photos or texts, which auto-delete. Now corporate shill companies are using it to "spread news" and C-List "hawt" celebrities like Kylie Jenner and DJ Khalid use it to promote their brand.

You can also use AR filters on your face, draw stuff or add cartoon pictures of yourself (Snapchat bought Bitstrips)

If a girl doesn't want to give a guy their number first, they give them their snapchat.

I use it regularly though. I don't use instagram often, facebook mostly for pce groups and access to other sites, and I stay far, far away from Twitter.

Quote from: PukeSter on 03/31/2018, 05:40 PMDamn dude nice. Good to see more Gen Z people play the Turbo.

I joined PCEFX when I was 13. Have grown quite a lot since then. Used to have a Duo-R but now I just have a Coregrafx 2, mostly emulate as well.

What are your favorite games? Maybe we got some in common.
Most of my personal favorites are
Zelda link to the past
Metroid zero mission
Castlvania 3
Alien crush
Legendary axe
Well I haven't gotten to far in turbo but I recently just got a pc engine duo from keith Courage so that list will change. Since I'm able to purchase pc engine games instead of turbografx 16 games which are insane now to buy.
Not a bad list of games, though we got some differences. I like all the 16-bit Castlevanias more than the Castlevania 3 ;) (except Dracula X snes, ew).

Here's my top 10, no order

Mario 64
Portal
Bloodborne
Garou Mark of the Wolves
Majora's Mask
Wario Land 4
Bonk's Revenge
Sonic CD
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
Postal 2

You planning on buying games? Rondo of Blood is $200 at this point. Hope ya got some good cash, but it helps to save up for college. You'll need it for gas money/uber rides, food, hygeine stuff, maybe even alcohol if you chip in with someone.
#24
No idea BT. I have a Flash Hiders USA proto in my attic somewhere. Was it withheld from release?

How old are you dude? I'm 19, sophomore in college. I post on my phone occasionally
#28
Probably cuz it's exotic and "obey". And more people these days have pc engines, so the japanese prices go up. Supply and Demand.

Bloody Wolf gives you unlimited continues on the american version though, and considering how cheap that final boss is you're gonna need them. The translation is also hilarious.
#29
Not much lately.

Played a bit of Street Fighter II though. It's a great version, I love the music and colors. Shame about the lack of Turbo (not so much the speed but it has extra moves). Better than genny but snes just takes the cake overall.
#30
I thought these were a lot of fun. Helped to get discussion on individual games going too.

The poll thing is a nice idea. The N64 forum usually does that for Game of the Month.
#31
Can't go wrong with this one. I've read most of it

https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-History-Video-Games-Pokemon/dp/0761536434

Gives a pretty large scope of history on the American video game industry up until the early 2000s. Has a large amount of quotes from different executives too. Definitely a big focus on Nintendo of America but there's more than meets the eye.

There's an HG101 book on Japanese developer interviews, I don't know much about it. 4Chan /vr/ board might have a free pdf circulating if you ask.

You're a good guy Gypsy, thanks for the support. At least Nulltard and Sirhc will be back in a couple days to brighten the mood here.

Competing pce forum? Does this site even make revenue? If anything you should be worried about Facebook. Especially since Tatsujin has permanently relocated there.

All of us "Dildophilers" intend to stay here, whether you like it or not.

You could probably do a search for xxxseed or Deucebag and see dozens of results.

Isn't Hard mode from Blazing Lazers the default normal in Gunhed?

Quote from: Winniez on 03/24/2018, 09:46 PMThe all mighty Truxton of Classic Game Room fame :) Input Truxton, output fun! Btw I have always liked that CGR promotes some obscure Toaplan shooter instead of all the hip games. More like a running gag now though.

I know and to be honest I prefer that version, PC Engine version just seems so difficult that its more like a chore to play it. Just mentioned it as an example game I would like to get if it was cheaper. I'm perfectly happy without it :)
It looks and sounds nicer, and the difficulty is more consistent. You still get 5 whole continues too

Other toaplan games like Twin hawk and zero wing are better on genesis though, but I only like a couple toaplan games to begin with.
#37
I always found it fascinating how the snes and genny got big 16 megabit and 24 megabit carts. I know pce definitely had some large CD games but I'm kinda curious what the breakdown is (I would guess without Redbook and cutscene art?)

I think BT said years ago that Rondo was an 18 megabit game?
#38
There are basic, unfinished demos of Sonic 1, Ghosts n Goblins, and Bubble Bobble.

Quote from: PukeSter on 03/17/2018, 09:19 AMJapan has been drained of all the good bargain games. I was just there actually (3rd visit for family). Did pick up some n64 games though.

For all the anti-Facebook old farts, there is a new arkanoid port on hucard. You'll have to buy it though, no rom.

You dudes probably could shoot him a Facebook message though.

I still refuse to join twitter. It's a fucking cesspool
There's been an Arkanoid port for PC Engine with mouse support for like 20 years. Hopefully someone other than the authors isn't just slapping it on a HuCard for an easy profit.

Edit: just did a quick search to see if I could find that Arkanoid HuCard. Came across a PC Engine homebrew group. One of the recent posts asked:

"Is there an English rom hack of Adventure Island?"
That's some interesting info, thanks BT. Had no idea a previous Arkanoid port existed.

It should be in "Turbo Reproductions"...you have to join in order to see the pics. No mouse support, and the weirdest thing is that the hucard has a physical switch to change the number of lives.

Does anyone know who Zach Spears is, on pcefx at least? He runs Turbo Town along with Arkhan.

NW, you're an admin right? If you think we DoxPhilers are so toxic and dangerous, can't you just ban us from the chatbox?
#45
Sorry Nightwolve, I don't plan to stop using DoxPhile anytime soon. I've always felt welcome there and I've bolstered some of my pcefx relationships. Of course, I still come here regularly. Am I supposed to pick "the ethical side"?
#46
RePlayed some Rayman Legends, VVVVVV and hotline Miami on my pc. All classic games!

Was thinking of replaying Postal 2 so I could pee on terrorists, I'll save that for another day.

DoxPhile is harmless, and I got some good friends over there (sirhc, gredler, etc)

Besides, null got me a summer internship charging crystals for the DoxPhile servers. Pay is good too

Gotta love 4K resolution and texture filtering on dolphin.

Shame the GameCube didn't get more games. Ps2 emulation is iffy and Xbox emulation is in the fetus stage
