Messages - Burnt Lasagna

Quote from: SamIAm on 10/22/2015, 06:02 AMElmer started hacking Xanadu II from square one. It has only been a few weeks since he began, but already he has not only cracked Xanadu II, but also made enormous headway into opening up Xanadu I for translation as well.
SamIAm and elmer, you rock! :D
More bumper cart action on the PCE is worth it's weight in gold!

Quote from: bartre on 12/15/2014, 11:52 AMokay, i sent PMs to nightwolve and burntlasagna; so we'll wait for their word before getting too deep there.
Hey, got your pm.
Not exactly sure what else to say, but I believe I've stated what I feel about pressing discs with the dub on it.

I don't like them.

I get allot of flack for that stance, but I simply don't like hobby projects that I worked on being put out on bootleg discs.
I understand people want something "official-esque" to hold onto, however, I believe that's what the Japanese copy should be for.

Quote from: TurboXray on 01/27/2014, 03:26 PMSounds good. I have a forum; I'll setup some private sub-sections for SM2 stuffs.
Sounds good.
PM sent.
(Okay, let the discussion go back to Xanadu II)

Quote from: TurboXray on 01/25/2014, 09:20 PMA dub is planned. But I'm not handling that part (other than maybe helping on the tech side, say ADPCM stuffs). I haven't had contact with Burnt Lasagna in awhile, so I don't know if he's still interested in the project. SamIam redid all the game translation (I had a partial translation before) as well as translating the cinema dialog. I just have to tidy up little bits on my end and have him give the final OK on it, or make any changes. But yeah, Spriggan Mark 2.
Hey Bonknuts, great to see you still around!
I don't exactly want to derail the Xanandu II thread, but I'm still interested. Though its been almost a year an a half since this project went cold, so it's hard to remember what was finished/sent to me...I think the last thing was waiting for you to send me the ADPCM pointers, as well as a translation for the in-game text/ADPCM. I know SamIAm sent me the improved dub script awhile back for the cut-scenes (which is fantastic!).

I'll have to PM you sometime later to touch base on this. Again, nice to see you around again man!

Good Lord, another CD-R question...

It's most likely the brand of CD-R your using or the speed at which your burning the disc. Try Verbatim Datalife Plus with AZO dye,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817130907
there essentially the highest quality CD-R's you can buy. Then try and burn at the lowest speed your drive can handle (4x speed is healthy).

That should produce a perfect CD-R for your Duo. Good luck!

EDIT: Also here's a quote from Bernie in a previous post that might be useful.
Quote from: Bernie on 10/19/2012, 04:50 PMNO!!  Only use nice shiny silver bottoms, or those Gold Archive discs.

I use the silvers, and have no issues on my Duo.
By the way, the "NO!!" part is referring to black bottom CD-R's.

Hey guys, haven't logged in a while (haven't had much to say) but I decided to stop by and say happy birthday!

/YsIV/Ys_IV_1_years_old.png

The Ys IV Dub is now 1 years old!

I'm guessing, by now, everyone here that's wanted to play this game (in complete English) has already?
I myself might attempt to replay Ys IV, since the last time was when I was bug testing the patch. I was using a hacked save file to quickly speed through the game for testing purposes, though It wasn't exactly ideal for "enjoyment" purposes.

Anyways, cheers ye merry Turbo hooligans! It was one helluva ride!

God Bless the whole lot of thee! :)

Well the problem isn't the patch, but the video itself. The video literally gets stuck when Adol and Dogi leave the boat, however the audio continues.
In either case, it's cool to see a lets-play, though it might be worth while to re-upload the first part terroriser :)

There wasn't a new release on Christmas (12/25/2012).
The last update to the patch was v1.1 (don't remember the exact date), which fixed a small issue that happens on real hardware.

I personally do not accept donations.
This is just a hobby of mine, not something I wish to make money with.

Though Nightwolve, my right hand man in this project, does except donations (made the text patch back in 2004).
You can donate to him at YsUtopia.net if you feel so inclined.

Yes! Finally, something that looks good! :)
Killer is Dead is the next game being made by Sudia51 (of No More Heroes fame).
As much as I would like it to be a sequel to Killer 7, it isn't.

The games about killers killing other killers......sounds good! :D

What Bernie just re-posted is true.
Quote from: Bernie on 01/12/2013, 09:50 AMPSX games, I always use bin/cue.
Thought I should highlight this.
BIN/CUE should always be used for PSX games. I personally wouldn't bother with lossey MP3 rips.
If you really need the audio down-sampled, then I would just use a lossless rip and down-sample from there to insure the best possible conversion.

I came into this thread getting ready to write just this...guess you beat me to it.
No one likes talking about the shooting that was prevented thanks to "that person who had a gun".

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 01/07/2013, 02:55 PMSo its amazingly wonderfully great...but its also a huge piece of shit.
Every now and then I'll hear this same exact argument and I've never fully understood the logic behind it.
The idea that it somehow cheated it's way to being "amazing" makes it disqualified to earn the "it's a good system" award?
#22
Quote from: Ji-L87 on 01/07/2013, 10:51 AMIt took a long time for me to finally get a PS2. And it was probably one of the best game related purchases I've ever done. Just like with the PSP, getting quality games didn't have to cost much at all and (contrary to PSP) they were literary everywhere.
Same here.
I didn't buy a PS2 till late 2007 (a used Phat one). At that point the system had essentially already established its library and you could just walk into a store and buy almost any game for under $20 (that sort of still is the case now too) :)

dl.dropbox.com/u/47184537/RIP%20PS2.png

It actually makes me feel a little melancholy. The PS2 is my personal favorite system of all time, it quite frankly had every type of game I enjoy on it and housed many of my favorite games. Sure, it didn't quite have the same warming persona that systems made by Nintendo/NEC had, but it hit a bulls eye were it mattered most, the games. The amount of support the PS2 received is simply amazing and is what really pronounced it as this system that literally had almost everything for anyone.

While its relevance, in terms of new games, might have completely dried up in about 2010, it saddens me still to hear that it has completely lost support.

Here's to you old friend! It was an outstanding thirteen year run,

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 01/04/2013, 04:42 AMWhat exactly lacks with MAME? Can it run early games like Ms Pacman and Joust with perfect sound? That would be good enough. Does it run tate? I'd fucking love Ms Pac Man tate on my JVC monitor in 240p...
I've never tried those games, but I'd imagine they would work.
The only games I've tried are "Cannon Dancer" and "The Cliffhanger - Edward Randy" and they seemed to run perfectly...from what I remember.

Though, as Frank said, it's hit or miss. I know there were plans of doing an improved port of MAME to RetroArch Wii, but that has yet to materialize.
Also SDL MAME is dead now, in favor of just MAME Wii.

Quote from: SamIAm on 01/03/2013, 12:02 AMUpdate on Spriggan Mark 2.

I had a day off today and I spent all of it...ALL of it...on the dub script. My brain is completely frazzled at the moment.

I've learned a lot from this project, though. You see, originally, I was writing all the lines from the cutscenes with subtitles in mind. I even made a fully formatted test version using a youtube longplay and virtualdub. But then this turned into a dub project and damn, that changes everything. I rewrote a ton of stuff.
! :D
Ah, thank you, this is amazing!  :)
This was never publicly stated, but I'll be directing the dub for Spriggan Mark 2, after Sam's finished with the script.

With Ys IV, I had to work with a rather sloppy translation by Deuce, which he made back in 2004. His translation was made for a GameFAQ walkthrough and was definitely not optimized for dubbing. Having gone through that, your script sounds like a breath of fresh air!

I look forward to reading your script Sam and greatly appreciate the extra mile your putting into it! It will definitely save me from allot of headaches and confused actors :)

EDIT:
Quote from: SamIAm on 01/03/2013, 12:02 AMOh, and Princess Crown is coming along, too! God I hope these projects get done this year.

MAME is definitely not one of the Wii's strong point's.
8-16bit hardware is the most bullet proof on the Wii (especially Genesis Plus GX and Wiimednafen).
The Wii can also still output in 240p component video, which looks fantastic on a CRT TV.

The Wii has an outstanding homebrew scene! I'd go as far as saying it's the reason to own a Wii.
Seeing as how you already have WiiMednafen, I'd recommend...

Genesis Plus GX

QuoteThis is an enhanced port of Genesis Plus. It's capable of emulating the Genesis / Mega Drive, Sega/Mega CD, Master System, Game Gear & SG-1000 (including all unlicensed or pirate known dumps), also supporting backwards compatibility modes when available.
It is, quite frankly, the most accurate 8-16bit Sega emulator ever written.

RetroArch Wii

QuoteRetroArch is a modular multi-system emulator system that is designed to be fast, lightweight and portable. This Wii port can run cores for a large number of systems, including CPS1, CPS2, and NEOGEO.
The following emulators/games have been ported to RetroArch and are included in the Wii release of RetroArch:

    Final Burn Alpha Cores (CPS1 - CPS2 - NeoGeo) [version 0.2.97.26]
FCEUmm (Nintendo Entertainment System) [recent SVN version]
Gambatte (Game Boy | Super Game Boy | Game Boy Color) [version 0.5.0 WIP]
Genesis Plus GX (Sega SG-1000 | Master System | Game Gear | Genesis/Mega Drive | Sega CD) [version 1.7.0]
    SNES9x Next (Super Nintendo/Super Famicom)
    VBA Next (Game Boy Advance)
Prboom (for playing Doom 1/Doom 2/Ultimate Doom/Final Doom)
Mednafen PCE Fast (PC Engine/PC Engine CD/Turbografx 16)
    Mednafen Wonderswan (WonderSwan/WonderSwan Color/WonderSwan Crystal)
Aside from emulation, I'd recommend installing a CIOS for running Wii games off a USB HDD,
d2x-cios

QuoteThis is a custom IOS for the Wii console, i.e. an IOS modified to add some new features not available in the official IOS.
This custom IOS has been made to be used ONLY with homebrew software.
The d2x cIOS is an enhanced version of the cIOSX rev21 by Waninkoko.
Also a Custom MIOS for running Gamecube games off a USB HDD,
DIOS MIOS

QuoteDIOS MIOS (Lite) - Play your Nintendo GameCube games on Wii from an USB device or SD card
and finally a loader for actoully loading the Wii/GC games.

The only thing I buy at Gamestop is PS2 games, for the fact that their practically throwing them away now.
Sure, it sucks that most of them have had there cases gutted, but when almost all of the games are $1, regardless of their actual online value, you really can't complain that much.

Quote from: blueraven on 12/26/2012, 01:16 AMHow the hell did they decide to make this into three movies? ITS ONE FUCKING BOOK.
My exact thoughts when watching the film!
The Hobbit was my favorite book when I was seven years old and, to an extent, still is. I even prefer the story of the Hobbit over the Lord of The Rings trilogy because it was just a simple children's story.

It shouldn't be an artificial trilogy! Doing that just messes up the story's pacing and makes it feel too short and to long at the same time.

Any adventure game fans here? If so, then I might have some exciting news for you!
ResidualVM.webp

ResidualVM v1.0 has just been released! ResidualVM is a sister project to ScummVM that allows you to play LucasArts' Lua-based 3D adventures games on modern machines. It currently only supports one game, however that one game is one of my favorate games of all time,
Grim Fandango!
IMG

Please head on down to the site for more info!
https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/ResidualVM
https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/ScummVM

QuoteThe edge is here: ResidualVM 0.1.0 - The Edge of the World released

The day is finally upon us, after 9 years, 4 months and 6 days, we are proud to announce the first stable release of ResidualVM, and what day would be better for this occasion, than the end of the world as we know it. (or so the Mayan Mechanical Gremlins told us).

This initial stable release of ResidualVM now opens the world of Grim Fandango to a modern audience, whether you are using Windows, Linux or OS X, you'll now be able to take your 4 year journey of the soul, and find out if that compass in the handle actually WILL come in handy.

We would like to note that, while we have tested ResidualVM quite thoroughly, there MIGHT be cases where you end up in a situation where the game is incompletable, some of these were actually also existent in the original game (while the game itself is designed to be dead-end-free, the bugs in it weren't, nor were our own). So, please follow the old adventure-game mantra of "save early, save often".

Over the past few years a lot has happened, even though the code base didn't reach a mature state until the past year. Lots of bugs have been fixed, even quite a few bugs left in the original game have been resolved. The team would like to thank all those that have been involved with getting ResidualVM to this point for their efforts.

Finally, we would like to thank:

The LUA developers, for creating a nice compact script interpreter.
Tim Schafer, for obvious reasons, and everybody else who helped make Grim Fandango a brilliant game; and the EMI team for giving it their best try.
Bret Mogilefsky, for managing to create a SPUTM-style 3D LUA engine, and avoiding the horrible hack it could have been.

So, jump on over to our downloads-page, and grab a copy of ResidualVM 0.1.0 (but don't forget to download the 1.1-patch for Grim Fandango while you're there).

~very small update~

The patcher has been updated to fix some issues same users were having.
The main difference is that it now uses a small program NightWolve wrote to check the files sizes (used in the Ys IV Dub patcher), instead of having to rely on batch commands. I also removed the MD5 checker, because it ended up causing more trouble than it was worth.

Also, the Rebook audio was slightly tweaked to be more in sync (uses the same start point as the original PSP files).

(Sorry, haven't quite gotten around to fixing that issue with Death and Dracula #-o)

Don't know if this exactly qualifies, but I'd like to put Klonoa 2 (PS2) on this smörgåsbord of recommendations.
I just recently played through it and I enjoyed it immensely! It still moves mostly in a 2D plane though.

Also, if you don't already own it, buy a PS2. It's an amazing system and it dug-on-got that 3D that those kids are into :D

After thinking about it, the dirty 3D polygons during the PlayStation era weren't exactly the things that stand out in my memory during that time. It was mostly the full motion video/CG/hand animated cut scenes. The PlayStation and the Saturn were the first systems to really make the CD format main stream for consoles and I remember being really impressed with them back in the day.
