I purchased an allready modded Duo RX from em. It rocks and so does he.

I also get the ideal he's real busy right now so keep that in mind.

This is his email he's a mod at neo-geo.com

Just wanted to chime in.

I just purchased a modded Duo-RX from D-Lite, about 3 weeks ago.
Mine was region-modded and has the Super VHS video mod as well.

I did not know D-Lite, I had read his posts here and in the Neo-Geo forum.
I also live on the other side of the country from this guy.

To say I am happy with the Duo-RX is an understatement; it is pure Turbo gamming bliss. It plays all my turbo games and everything else. To actually be able to switch between the stock video and the Super VHS really shows the value of the mod, the increase in color intensity is amazing.

I'm just chiming in to say you could do much worse than purchasing from D-Lite, but I doubt you could do much better. Everything was as it should be. Perfect packing shipped the day he said, tracked, just perfect all around. Have no doubts that the quality of his work is first rate.

Since my initial purchase I have hit him up for games, again stress free, and I intend to buy a SuperGun real soon.

D-Lite you're the man keep up the good work!

Ok so here is my short list of Arcade Card hits.

First off I'm with Black_Tiger Strider is not crappy.
It does suffer from flicker problems and it is not as sharp in the control department as the Genesis version, but it's a great game. I like it a lot if you are a Strider fan I think it is well worth the investment, the music is great and there is at least one totally new, and fairly long, stage that is not in any other version.

I also love Kabuki. It is my current favorite PC Engine game; it is so fast and fluid. Play Street Fighter Champion Edition after playing Kabuki the controls feel clunky and the reaction time seems off. This game is great If you have an Arcade Card Get it!

I also would like to mention Fatal Fury Special. It is awesome it is the closest exact arcade-to-Pc Engine conversion I have seen. You have to like fighting games to enjoy it but again awesome game. Have an Arcade card? Get it you will not be disappointed.

I am getting Art of Fighting and World Heroes 2 and I'll let you know about them next week.

All in all if you love your Duo the Arcade card is the right thing to do. The three games I mentioned above make it worth it for me.

Some very interesting information here, this is a great thread.

I just purchased a Duo-RX, nearly new condition in the original box; it looks great I am very happy with it. I purchased it from D-Lite, he also moded it before I received it. It has the region selector switch on the back this mod, which he offers on his site, is less than cost of a converter on eBay, with nothing to loose. I also had the Super VHS mod done as well, it is awesome I will try to make some videos in super VHS mode vs. regular composite video.

I think there is some real flawed logic here about the relative quality of the various models of Duo's. Having been involved with electronics for some time I find the logical order of actual device quality is Dou (lowest quality), Duo R (middle quality) and the Duo RX (highest quality).

How can I say this? I know I've heard all the arguments, the Duo RX was made to be cheaper, I know, I know.  The primary cost saving measure in the production of the R and RX was the removal of the headphone jack.

The other and more obvious cost saving measure on the R and the RX respectively is quite frankly the date of production. The NEC consoles, not unlike any computer-based device would become cheaper to produce each year as production methods improved and streamed lined. In addition to becoming increasingly inexpensive to produce the quality would also improve. Any person who has actively used computers for any amount of time knows the chips, all chips become better, faster and cheaper every year.

As far as I can tell the Duo was produced starting in 1991, the R in March of 1993, and the RX in June of 1994. The actual cost of producing the primary processor chips and peripheral chip sets would have improved dramatically from 91 to 94. Not to mention the improvement in the quality of CD drives. I hear often the problems playing burnt, copied games, on the original Duo and the higher rate of success using burnt games on Duo RX machines. This is far from a random occurrence. Each year that passed the components improved in kind.

I think it is logical to assume like any computer related device the newer the better. I guess time will ultimately show us which machines were built to last the longest.

I would also like to say most of the reliability of these devices would be dictated by their use and treatment since their production.  I also think this entire dialog is mostly intellectual, if you have a Pc engine, a Duo, a Turbografx 16 with CD rom or the Duo R or RX, and it works then that's what should matter most.

Thanks for a great Thread.

I have just received my Supergrafx and I would like several questions answered.

First I would like to know about the switch on the back of the unit.

1. Does it need to be switched when playing normal PC engine games, if so in what position?
2. Dose it need to be switched to play normal Supergrafx games, if to in what position.
3. It is my understanding that the switch was for use only with hybrid games like Super Darius II is this correct.

Just need to know what is up.

Thanks

I guess that it would be a bit much to hope for an all NEC expo. I would like to see a decent showing of NEC fans. I do enjoy other gaming systems but a large expo with very little PC-Engine stuff would be disappointing. I'm just trying to gauge the worth of attending one of these other events.

I would very much like to hear form someone who has attended one or both of the mentioned expos.

I have a question...

I have been scanning the web looking for a game expo for classic games. I found the site for.

"Classic Gaming Expo"
 http://www.cgexpo.com/

Has anyone ever gone?  They are in their eight year. Is it a good resource for Pc engine, Duo or Turbo stuff? I would like to attend a classic game event, the best-case scenario would be one centered on NEC consuls. Is there such a thing?

If not do you think there would be interest in such an event?

I would think that many of the individuals that collect these items are in the 20's to 40's age range and would be capable of traveling would they? Would you?

My hope is that there is such an event out there but if not, well we need one.

I remember waiting for EGM to arrive every month, sometimes it would hit the newsstand before my mailbox and I would buy it twice. I would poor through the pages for the Turbo's reviews or any news.

I also remember the gossip column; was it Quarterman? I remember reading that page one long page of small print for any Turbo Grafx or Supergrafx news. I had a Turbo Grafx-16 with the CDRom attached, and my best friend had a Genesis.

I also remember watching less and less Turbo Grafx games and more and more Genesis games being reviewed. I had hoped the Supergrafx would come along and save my systems honor. I really did not get it then. These games endure, how many hundred-dollar Genesis games are there now? I wish I had kept all old Turbo gear I miss It now.

Anyway I'm rambling...

Thanks Again for these I remember.

I had to buy it...
I waited and waited and you did not buy so I did.

I had been watching it and I have wanted a Supergrafx for so long I had to do it.

For those of you who were following the auction I took Gunhed and Battle Ace, I know it is not so popular but I want all the GSX games so it gives me a start on the collection.

Anyway I'm new here thought I'd say Hi.
