Pretty much, yeah.  I was telling people to get fucked long before being made a mod.
I'm not ok with that.

All of the words you typed below the "go fuck yourself" to explain your point could have come out first.  That's how adults discuss things.  Instead you start with "go fuck yourself" knowing you'll have no repercussions, you can talk down to others here all you want.  I get it.  I've been a member in good or at least neutral standing for 5 years, but I won't be talked to like that here or in rl.  This is one of the few places on the internet that felt like home, but that's all gone completely in one fucking day.  I won't be sticking around here much longer.

NecroPhile, the idea that LRG doesn't care about you, me or any customer is your opinion.  I know you think you are right about everything, but don't confuse your opinion with facts.  I stated my opinion and you reacted like an asshole.

Honestly, your pathetic remark is the first time I've ever met any hostility here.  If my alleged hypocrisy and foolishness is unwanted here, go ahead and ban me.  Please.  I don't have time in my life for your childishness.  Go on, I won't be missed here.

And back to the point at hand: if you think LRG, or Play-Asia, or Aetherbutt, or Microsoft or Amazon or ANY other company gives a shit about you, then you are the fool Necro.

I don't need a company to care about me.  It's getting harder and harder to defend LRG, but asking a company to care about you is going a bit too far!

What I find uber-shitty is the stunt they pulled with the Wonder Boy and Lawbreakers release.  When they were opened up for sale, WB obviously sold like hotcakes (as we all know, hotcakes are the best selling item ever invented, duh) and Lawbreakers wasn't.

So LRG pulled many (single) copies of WB and bundled it with Lawbreakers (an online-only FPS that nobody really wanted) while the sale was active.  Their excuse is that their "close fans" were not going to be able to buy Wonder Boy, so they made the decision to bundle it during the morning sale.  Let's not forget that this "bendover bundle" was never previously announced, which means their plan all along was to pull this trick if Lawbreakers wasn't selling like they wanted.  Obviously, they had to have made the bundle picture and web page ready to go beforehand.

It should also be mentioned (if you don't follow LRG drama) that Lawbreakers was developed by Cliff B. and company who are all in the same town as (and "friends" with) the LRG team.  It was so unwanted by fans that LRG decided not to number it like their other PS4 games.  The result was that many people who simply wanted Wonder Boy had to opt for a bundle with another game, or not get it at all.

Major dick move.

From what I can gather, NT was changed to 1 copy per customer while the morning sale was live.  I could be wrong though.

Apparently, LRG is looking to handle ordering differently with the release of Ys.  I don't believe they've said anything definite or given specifics yet, though.

Very cool of your to rofl this game.  Which version of MS is it?
#8
In my opinion, totally irrelevant.  The cart has only snippets of 3 games used in the on-campus competitions.  Originals are rare but are really just novelties.
#9
Zeta, all you need to know is it's a repro of a very rare cart similar to the Nintendo World Championship carts for NES.  Looks nice but I'm not into repros myself, nor do I have any desire to play this "game".  I wouldn't even buy an original unless I found it at a flea market for $5.  Just my opinion, glwts!

You're totally wrong Necro.  Unless you get 2 copies, how else are you going to have sealed copies of both cover variants?  Eh?  Eh?

jk of course.  LRG is headed down an ugly path with their trading cards, online-only game (Lawbreakers) and heavy release schedule.  I'm getting a bit burned out on LRG but really wanted Wonder Boy.  I would have bought it from any publisher.  Just bought 1 regular copy today with no problems.  I'll certainly have the Master System side of the reversible cover displayed, because duh.
#12
This is pretty concerning, as it does look pretty authentic, but still seems fake.  It's obviously resealed, but you don't usually see the hangtab and tearaway strip with reseals.

Please post more photos if you do open it up as well as let us know what happens with your shady seller.  I'd love to see what the disc looks like.
#13
glwts but sorry to see you selling your collection!  You must be going for sealed CIB, right?
#14
Perhaps the winning bidder was buying many games from the seller and wanted to combine shipping, support that seller in particular, was looking for nice condition, or some combination of those.

<<raises hand>> I'm not interested either, but I was happy to see so many people excited about NES games when the NES Classic came out.  However I already have all the games and never stopped playing them, so I wasn't the target market for it.  I admit seeing Starfox 2 included on the SNES Classic is pretty cool, but I'm still going to pass.

Well damn, this is tougher than I thought it would be, but here goes (TurboChip only):

1. Air Zonk
2. Alien Crush
3. Blazing Lazers
4. Bonk's Adventure or Revenge
5. Cadash
6. Chew-Man-Fu
7. Dead Moon
8. Dragon's Curse
9. Dungeon Explorer
10. Galaga '90
11. Keith Courage
12. Legendary Axe 1 or 2
13. Magical Chase
14. Military Madness
15. Neutopia
16. Ninja Spirit
17. Soldier Blade
18. Splatterhouse
19. Super Star Soldier
20. Vigilante

I may have gone a bit heavy on the shmups and I'm not thrilled about Vigilante but gotta represent beat-em-ups and China Warrior is NOT worthy.  <ducks and covers>  Jackie Chan would probably be a better choice.

Magical Chase also is not worthy, but it would sell the system.  You can replace that one with just about anything for my list: Bomberman, Fantasy Zone, Samurai-Ghost, Bloody Wolf, hell even Tricky Kick to add another puzzler.
#19
This may sounds dumb, but did you check your drives/consoles?  I ask because I lost my Mario Party 4, ended up buying a replacement disc off ebay, then later realized it had been in the Gamecube the whole time.  D'oh!

Good luck - I don't think either of those will be easy to find but you never know :)
#20
Well to be fair, the game is over 25 years old.  It's quite possible, and probable, that some people finished it back then but never went to forums or YT 25 years later to post screenshots or videos.

Any poor kid that did beat the game in the 90's, if he or she isn't hopelessly insane by now, may just want to leave that in the past!

I really hesitate to say it's impossible.  Just.... tricky!
#21
Great review, enjoyed it!  Always nice to see Texas represented (your shirt :)  Tricky Kick is my favorite puzzler on the TG.  Like you said, there's just something about it that always draws you back.  It pretty much stays in my TurboExpress.

One of the "hardest video games ever" though?  I wonder if that's really true.  I guess people can TAS a bullet hell shmup to make a playthrough look easy, but there's no cheating your way through TK.  Still, I can't help but feel that with enough time, all of the puzzles can be figured out.  Right??  Are we going to have to get Google Deepmind on the task?

Sadly enough, cassettes are making a comeback..  because RETRO!

Yea it's fucking stupid.  At least 3 bands I love (Erasure, OMD and Saint Etienne) are releasing cassette versions of their new albums this year.  And of course, they come with a digital download code so you don't have to actually open and PLAY the cassette, just collect it.  All of this beautiful, multi-channel, hi-def 2017 audio technology possible and people are buying cassette.

Also, wake me up too when the Dreamcast 2 is announced...

Funny you mention it NecroPhile - I finally got around to opening my Dariusburst last night and spent a few hours with it.  It's damn incredible.  Worth $50, or $60 or whatever?  That's debatable but in 20 years, you won't miss that 50 bucks but you'll always have a badass shewtie to play on your Vita.

I was put off by the high price and didn't initially buy it.  Ended up buying it off ebay like a sucker and only paid a tiny bit more than the initial asking price... and I don't regret the expense.  It's a blast.

And also kinda funny - one of the LRG founders is asking on their own forums why DB isn't selling out so fast.  It does put me off that they want all their titles to sell out in 10 minutes.
#24
I agree there johnpv.  I think LRG is just a poor choice to publish US/NA Ys release.  I would say the same for the new Wonder Boy III remake too.

Sadly, too many games are getting "limited" physical releases without being labeled as such.  Take Gravity Rush Remastered (PS4) - it sold out on Amazon and later on people realized what a great game it is and wanted to own it.  It deserves wider distribution like its sequel.

Quote from: guest on 06/06/2017, 04:39 PMJohn and hark were specifically talking about the artificial scarcity of the physical versions, not of the games in general.
Looking back at johnpv's quote, to paraphrase: I want to own Ys but ugh, artificial scarcity of LRG!  That's self-contradictory.  Without LRG, Ys may very well get NO physical release (for North America) so if you want to own a copy, that wouldn't happen without LRG.

I understand you were probably griping more about their business model and lack of pre-orders.

I agree with gypsy and schweaty that fatigue has set in and LRG would be much better off sticking to higher quality titles like Ys.  It's truly sad that there really are enough morons out there who will buy everything and keep it all sealed and shelved.  I read that one of LRG's founders is a sealed game collector himself.  Sigh...

That's not the first time one of their games hasn't sold out immediately, but it did sell out over the weekend.  I think that's good though, since it allows anyone who really wanted it to get it.  There's a thread on the LRG forums asking "Is LRG hype dying?" and that seems to be the case.  Scalpers are not getting huge returns on their "investments" like they were a year ago.

Please tell me you kept the cases though??  It's nothing to do with collectardism, but I was just thinking yesterday how piss-poor people treated their PS1 games bitd.  Do y'all remember those days when nobody took care of their discs (PS1 games and CDs)?  Just threw them around the floor or maaaybe kept them all in a CD booklet while the cases went Bog-knows-where.  Disc media was so commonplace then that no one gave a shit.  How many PS1 games were lost or damaged that way?

Fucking love YMO.  Their first self-titled album is their best imo.  Cosmic Surfin' is amazing, as well as Simoon.  I love the early video game sounds too!  These guys were just as much pioneers with synthesizers as Kraftwerk, but much lesser known in the west.

Other great albums of theirs are:
Solid State Survivor - great cover of The Beatles' Day Tripper and Michael Jackson even recorded vocals for a cover of Behind the Mask, released on his posthumous album Michael.

Technodelic - pure early synth experimental bliss.  I like this one almost as much as the first but for different reasons.  There will never be another album that sounds like this, ever.  Brilliant.

Technodon - their 90's album which I was hesitant about but it's top notch.  Best enjoyed when you're in a chill mood with a nice beer or two.

Quote from: incrediblehark on 06/03/2017, 03:54 PMI completely agree! I have had similar feelings about LRG from the start, I don't like the idea of artificially making a physical game so scarce, and I wouldn't be surprised if in 10-15 years when the guy running it is finally done with LRG we see a small fortune made on ebay with his own hoard of sealed limited editions.
You're free to hate LRG but some of your assumptions are incorrect.  LRG doesn't determine the number of copies made - that is up to the developers.  Also, so far all of LRG's releases have previously (or simultaneously) been available as downloads, so there is no artificial scarcity.  I could see an argument if the game was ONLY available as a physical disc from LRG.

Something like Ys though deserves a much bigger retail release, no matter who publishes it.

Ah welcome to the AEShole club Gredler.  I think even the greatest haters have to admit the system is really damn slick in person.  I still get a semi every time I hold a cart in my hand.

Yes, most of the games are not worth the cost but (as you may know) you can buy Japanese versions for much, much less than US versions.  It is your systems BIOS that determines the region.  Like you said, the newly released NeoSD would really be the best way to go but it is pricy.  I don't have one yet, but hopefully within the year.

RGB out is fucking amazing and the Neo is what started me on the "RGB quest".  AES + Framemeister is to die for.  Try it out with a 3D tv if you happen to have one that will "fake" a 3D image from a 2D source.  The Genesis also has equally impeccable RGB out fwiw.

And lastly, grats on your marriage.  Just celebrated 1y last month myself!

Good to hear, thanks for the info!  It looks like SRG is here in Texas about 3 hours away from me, so maybe it will even show up this weekend.

I've really been having fun with procedurally generated games lately, like Ziggurat and a dinky game called Tower of Guns which I bought for maybe $12 on Amazon.  Damn if they aren't addictive in that quarter-munching kind of way.  Hopefully I'll be able to say the same about Strafe.

Pre-orders went up today at $39.99 plus shipping/tax. Only 2,500 PS4 pressed. (Don't know if this is total or seperated for PS4 single pre orders, PC/PS4 bundle, and BIG WANG (50).
I preordered from SRG already, but fwiw, apparently LRG will be releasing Shadow Warrior 2 too only it will just be the sequel (SRG's release will have discs for both 1 and 2, similar to the first print of Bayonetta 2 on Wii U).

I'm still waiting for my copy of Strafe from SRG also.  It was supposed to start shipping this week but I haven't heard a peep from them.

I agree the guy is a goob, but he was sadly right about one thing.  The American public equates bigger with more power.  That's why the original Xbox is giant but mostly empty space inside.

First things first, you should take all of your moldy or possibly moldy manual and put them in a sealed container with dessicant - either the silica gel like xele mentioned or DampRid.  Keep them in there for several days to dry them out as much as possible.

No shortage of great games on the Genesis!  I'll second these games, absolutely must-have:
Altered Beast
Castlevania: Bloodlines
Chiki Chiki Boys
Contra: Hard Corps
Ghouls & Ghosts
Golden Axe
Gunstar Heroes
Herzog Zwei
Outrun
Revenge of Shinobi
Shadow Dancer
Streets of Rage (any)
Strider
Vectorman 1 and 2
Wonder Boy in Monster World

Haven't seen these mentioned yet:
Castle of Illusion
Earthworm Jim
Forgotten Worlds
Rolling Thunder 2 and 3
Splatterhouse 2 and 3
Truxton

If your going to make a variant cover just make it reversible. These games are limited as it is. Now they split the inventory into three.
It is kind of a dick move, but I think it's even more ridiculous that some people need to collect every variant.  OK, if we're talking about Atari 2600 carts, there's some historical interest in label variations.  But for a new title, it's just stupid.  (I should put "new" in quotes.  How about "newly released")

Quote from: Medic_wheat on 04/25/2017, 10:31 PMUnfortunately there doesn't seem to be any plans for a pre order to meet demand so what ever print run there is will be a blood bath. With this much media attention it will be hard to get a copy.

With that said this is still a pleasant announcement.
This is surprising to read.  Why all the excitement?  I really don't understand.  Night Trap is already PHYSICALLY AVAILABLE.  This stinks of nothing but a cash grab.

I thought the whole point of LRG's philosophy is to make physical games for those great but lower-budget titles that would not have ordinarily gotten a physical release.  Now, they are talking about a game that's been out for years, on 2 platforms no less, and on top of that everyone is thrilled?  I really don't understand!

I've been supporting LRG since the very beginning, but I don't know how much longer I or my wallet can continue if they are just going to rehash games that you can already find and play.  They should stick to new titles.

Sold. Please delete.

Hi folks, I have an extra copy of Alice's Mom's Rescue for Sega Dreamcast that I'd like to trade or sell.  It is new and sealed, and an original Hucast release.  It seems people on Etsy are selling "reproduction" and "custom" copies of this and other Dreamcast games, and this is NOT a repro.  This homebrew is out of print and currently unavailable.  If there's no interest after a week or two, I'll likely take it to ebay.

I'm open to all trades, common and/or uncommon titles, for just about any system.  Let me know what you have for trade or feel free to check my wantlist in my signature.  Thanks for looking!

EDIT: Trade is preferred, but I would also take $50 as gift/friend payment and ship for free in a Priority Box (US only).

That's correct Hoobs, and you need to watch King of Kong asap.  It's great!

You do look like Billy Mitchell (or Silly Bitchell as the Missile Command wacko calls him)...  for Halloween, you should rock a USA tie and a bottle of hot sauce.  A lot of people hate on Billy Mitchell because of how he is portrayed in the movie, but he's an incredible video game player and a legend imo.  Peter Dinklage's character in Pixels is roughly based on him too.

The director (the big guy who pops in to narrate) is making another movie I believe about retro game box art - which does sound kind of interesting I admit.  If it already has a finalized name, it escapes me.  The movie may even be out already.  He seems like a decent enough guy, so maybe that documentary won't suck as much.

** spoiler alert **

I finished the game 2 nights ago.  I thought it was an incredible game and certainly the best game ever put out on Wii U (I don't have a Switch), but I can't agree with all the Perfect 10 reviews I've seen.

Without going into a full review, let me just vent for a moment on the one aspect of BotW that bothers me.  Having played every Zelda game since the very first, I felt like Breath was missing just that little something special that would push it higher than Ocarina in my mind (imo, Ocarina of Time is one of the best video games ever made, maybe even THE best.)

Breath is missing the typical sense of Zelda progression, and it felt almost a little too open.  I appreciate that RPG aspect change, but it never felt right to me *as a Zelda title*.  You start off on the platform and before you can venture out into the world, you are given all the techniques that you'll use for the whole game.  Previously, you'd venture out and get to a place you can't pass without say, the Hookshot.  Later in the game, after you obtain the Hookshot, that section opens up to you.  In BotW, nope - you can go pretty much anywhere anytime.  I don't think I like that; let me explain why it's a problem.

At the beginning of the game, you are given the quest Destroy Ganon.  OK...  Well, you can run right up to Hyrule Castle and find him just sitting right there, waiting.  The 4 Divine Beasts seem like the equivalents to dungeons in previous games, and they are simple, minor puzzles.  The cleverly designed, head-scratcher dungeons are what made Zelda games incredible and they are basically gone.  That right there, more than anything else, keeps it from dethroning Ocarina.  In the game I finished the 4 Beasts, and then Impa tells me - ok, you're all set to fight Ganon.  Good luck.  So uhh.... ok.  I decided to hike on up to Hyrule Castle, did a bunch of climbing and found Ganon.  Got him down to a quarter health but kept running out of healing.  I decided to leave and beef up, but it just seemed wrong to me.  I didn't have the Master Sword or the Hylian Shield.  I didn't even know what I was doing, if I should really be fighting Ganon so soon.  So I spent the last 2 weeks exploring everywhere, doing side quests, and all the time I'm thinking "ho hum, maybe tonight I'll go get Ganon.  Nah, lemme see what's over here...  ooh a treasure chest."

There was no sense of urgency and it just didn't feel right to me.  However, I did have a wonderful time exploring.  I expected after beating Ganon to explore more post-game, but the ending cut scene is only like a minute and then....    well that's it.  Game Over.  Roll the credits.

Now that I've finished it, I've watched a speedrun where a guy finishes the game in less than an hour!  Un-freakin-believeable!!  That's the opposite of what a Zelda game should be.  Though I admit it is kind of cool to think about Link waking from his resurrection, saying "fuck it" and making a beeline to kill Ganon again!

All in all, I loved it.  N did a lot of things right (ie, unlimited bombs) and I really enjoyed my time with the game.
