90 some hours into the game the story really starts teasing you heavily too. You think you're building to the big climax, then something will happen to complicate things. Then you'll sort that out and even more problems will arise.

Anyone who hasn't seen the recent slime shaped controller should definitely check it out.

I loved Dragon Warrior VII. The graphics are strangely primitive but the game is just plain fun. Its strength or weakness depending on how you look at it is its length. I put in over 100 hours before I gave up and I still havent finished.

Yeah next to Ys DW VIII justified my purchase of a PS2. Though i must say i have no idea what the screenshots or game looks like anymore.

PCE/TG-16|CD/SGX Discussion / CD-R's

I looked through a lot of old magazines but didn't find anything that tells the speed of the drive. And yet it seems like read it was double somewhere- because this was one reason I was considering a Duo even though I already had a TGCD. All I found was an ambiguous reference in Gamepro to slightly faster load times. One thing I haven't checked is Turboplay and the dedicated magazines on steve's site.

Makes you wonder how something sealed can just show up somewhere like that. I wonder who had it before? Is this a thrift store find?

Would be awesome if a few cases of sealed Cotton and Ys showed up somewhere.

I hate to say this in a forum with so few posters, but go away.

PCE/TG-16|CD/SGX Discussion / CD-R's

I'm in the process of scanning old magazines that feature the Duo. Rest assured the CD ROM in the Duo is double speed and I will post the relevant clippings when I find them.

When I finally got the Duo I was expecting much faster load times due to the double speed CD ROM, and was pretty surprised not to get them in a terribly pronounced way.

I wish Irem would do something like this. They could throw Vigilante, Ninja Spirit, Hero Tonma, and Mr. Heli on a GCN disc easily. I'd buy it. Namco could add Dragon Saber and what else I'm not sure.
#8
Nice, I was thinking about getting a DS anyway.

As for Torgo, I know this will probably never happen but I wish he or some of the other game/tech oriented people at NEC/TTi would put together a small book detailing their experiences, as well as answering as many technical questions as possible about what was worked on. I know the audience for this would be small so it probably will never happen, but it would be nice  :)

Quote from: OldRoverThere's also the interleaved hucard, which is what SFII used (20mbit I believe).

Why didn't they make them all that big? 8,12,16 meg was pretty common by 1993 on the super famicom and mega drive systems.

There are some really nice tense moments in Silent Debuggers too, when you are working under pressure. They did a great job establishing atmosphere. Gets a bit repetitive though, and also too hard for me, like many Turbo games. The dialogue scenes are not skippable which can get frustrating when you have to start over.

My original SNES I mean  :)

I've replaced it but still I hate to see a system go down and stay down. Any suggestions on how to clean the connectors? Is there anything else I should do? It will play games but sometimes they will just stop. I hope its just dirty connectors anyway.
#12
I missed that one. Loved the game though. Wish they would do another 2D Kain game. They are sitting on a DS/GBA goldmine if nothing else.

Buy/Sell/Trade / just out of curiosity...
07/26/2005, 02:42 PM
Aww man I just threw away an extra one I had lying around yesterday. Tough luck man

Actually there was an auction for a spine card only on ebay once. It went for like $45 if I recall. That was at the peak of the games value- its gone down a bit since then.

I never know what to do with spine cards anyway. They fit diagonally in the instructions. How do others store them I wonder?

http://www.xboxyde.com/news_1767_en.html

Footage here, no real game footage though. Note how bilingual the teaser is though. I don't know anything about the xbox import scene, but it seems crazy to make a game japan only for an xbox if the developer wants it to sell.

I finally betrayed the Gamecube and bought a PS2 for Ys. But Ziria isn't really a system seller for me since I never played the original games. Here's hoping for a PS3 or N5 release, I'm sure I'll get those eventually.

Side question: why is the series known as Far East of Eden in the US? Was any game ever released in the US on any system with that name?
#15
I wonder what's more sophisticated? KIT or the Duo?
#16
Quote from: GUTSToo bad Dave Halverson is a fucking retard, "OH MY GOD EVERY GAME EVER RELEASED IS THE BEST GAME EVER!".

Didn't he used to work for Gamefan? Yeah that was quite the hype machine. Especially for the companies they were in bed with; lets see- atari, crystal dynamics, treasure, did I miss any?

Quote from: TronWich reminds me i need to start over again on Darcula X.

Afther my, SCDII got busted i had to... start it over again on the Duo-R

Shoulda got a Tennokoe bank. Actually starting that beauty again is a pleasure.
#18
I'm shocked and disappointed that this is an issue. I always fantasized about getting a GT. But then again role playing games wouldnt matter for that anyway.
#19
Quote from: NeoFreakyou got it.

Get a turbo tap and some reverse PS/2 adaptors. Good luck finding them in black though
#20
That is a great game. I envy anyone who has the pleasure of going through it for the first time.
#21
Quote from: NeoFreakok, i had to take mine off; due to intense vampire slaying the plastic really started coming up around the d-pad. however, i removed it carefully and tucked it away nicely in my duo manual baggie.

Next time you see it it will be a little wad of plastic.

Quote from: KeranuMan a pick up fee, that sucks. I didn't even think such a thing exist. Awfully rude of him since it saves him the time to ship it and faster transaction.

You should have walked out and told him to just mail it, that would have been awesome.

Has anyone noticed any difference in the amont of syrup the Duo can hold with the Arcade Card?

Quote from: twor2005Yeah and he'll be selling the bonk 2 alone for 45 dollars. Hmm have you sent him anything yet?

Still no payment or response after 2 days. E-mails bounce back undeliverable.

If I don't here something by the time I get home from work tomorrow I'll file a non-paying bidder report.

Not that it'll make much difference since eBay lets you rip off as many people as you like as long as you're generating enough seller's fees.

Evidently. I wish there was some way I could justify making you an offer, but I've already got a PCE Duo. BTW was yours missing the cart door when you got it? I haven't figured out how those things get lost. I admit I broke the the latches off my TGCD case, but that little door seems like it stays on there pretty well.

Quote from: OldRover...maybe it also wipes your butt and makes french toast?

...just a thought...

Make with the tea, Jeeves
#25
Yeah its always bothered me that those things are white. Maybe to match the white PCE? But anyway, yeah, I have no idea what to do about it except use the black Turbo Tap instead of the Duo tap. Then you run into the adaptor issue.
#26
Yeah and he'll be selling the bonk 2 alone for 45 dollars. Hmm have you sent him anything yet?
#27
Awesome  :)

I've reported his duo + cdr bonus auctions a few times but they never come down.

If this didn't come at a time when I was somewhere past broke I would be all over the auctions too.

Off-Topic / Games growing up...
07/23/2005, 06:46 PM
Yeah I don't really have a problem with checking IDs, and I doubt it will go much farther than that. I don't see why it would matter where they sell them, unless you're talking about toy stores not selling them which makes perfect sense. But like you said, money talks... and makes the laws. I wonder if Toys R Us sells M rated games? I know KB does.

Having said that, most M rated games are anything but mature.
#29
hahahahaha that's awesome! He could have knocked out some of the guards with that monster
#30
Granzort as well once you get past the first level. It could have been a classic if your character had a lifebar or could take more than two hits. I must say the only time it reminds me of Keith Courage is when I get lost in the levels though.
#31
Quote from: GUTSHaha I remember the soundtrack to Vasteel was so awful I couldn't bring myself to play it.  The turbo chip generated music wasn't as bad, but that jazz was just horrible!

Oh yeah the jazz was seen as somewhat ridiculous. I like the idea though, given the slow pace of the game. Edge of your seat music seems like it would get old fast. I'll have to restart the game and try the PCM soundtrack to remind myself what it sounds like.
#32
I'm not saying you should do it, but I loved the way mine looked when I took it off.
#33
I suspected as much when I ordered a "Duo controller extension cable" and it was dull grey when it came. I'd really like a black one. Also I'd really like to be able to use my Turbo Tap on the Duo, and use my Avenue 6 pad on the Tap. All in black of course. Anyone care to make this easy and post a link? Or at least tell me the real names of what I'm looking for?
#34
Quote from: AlexKiddIs this worth playing since I don't have a duo at the moment? How does it compare to the original?

I haven't played it but have you seen this?

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/main/pcenginefx_com_-_feature_-_lor1.html

Looks about the same to me, color is decent for a Sega CD game. Except you'll be betraying us of course
#35
They're not really worth that much even at Bullseye prices, at least not in the US- heck even UK fans can import if they had to instead of pay that much. If you look at the rest of the prices on that site its pretty typical. Half of that shit they probably don't even have. I tried to order Might and Magic III only to have my money refunded the next day when they checked their actual inventory.

Quote from: cozzieYou can buy the printer on Yahoo Japan starting at 5000 yen they are not uncommon.
Also the pc engine cd rom amp Karaoke machine same starting price .

Then this is why we need to have a readily accessible and wide spread list of hardware/software and rarity guide. Check out www.atariage.com they have one hell of an operation going on. Rarity guide, hardware guide, tons of pics and more. This is a set up that we could very much use in our community instead of having to go several places to get it. I know thats what www.pcengine-fx.com desires to be but it isn't there yet.

Maybe we as a community should look into ways of accomplishing the same level of detail in one place....be more unified about things... :D

There's a software price guide in that magazine about classic games they sell at Blockbuster: but it's quite humorous. It's like they just listed most of the games and made up some prices. Dynastic Hero is listed for $30
 :)

The auction was something I've never seen before or even knew existed! Looks like you would need an original white PCE to make it work. But actually I can post some pics from the Artist Tool Rom if anyone is interested.

Quote from: KeranuThanks for the usefull information! The story about the RAM chip shortage is quite interesting. Say you wouldn't happen to want to sell me an Arcade Card Pro for maybe less than 20 bucks, would you? :D

According to Gamefan, there was a fire at the factory that produced 60% of the world's RAM. They were speculating on whether or not it would delay the AC's release. Guess it did.
#38
Quote from: KeranuI've never even played the first Vasteel yet, but I'm dying to. It looks really fun and unique. By the way, have you played it with two players? I am curious to see how that is!

Yeah its pretty good that way I think. Kind of like playing a board game though because it takes  so long. A single turn (for both players) can take 40 minutes. Which is a drawback to the single player game since you're sitting there waiting for the computer to move every piece.

Its amazing how much  PCM voice is in that game. There are detailed voice descriptions of every mech.

Quote from: OldRoverThe Duo uses a capacitor. Cheap and somewhat unstable but never needs replacing.

It also ruins your saves if you don't power the machine up for a few weeks :(

Can you verify this? It seemed like I powered up my TGCD after a few years and it still had my saves, but I could be wrong about that.
#40
Ok well since this is basically resolved, anyone care to comment on Vasteel 2? I really enjoyed the first one though I haven't played it in a long time, and it gets really tough. People think Fire Emblem on the GBA is tough today

But anyway I'd to hear some opinions/thoughts/discussion on Vasteel 1 or 2. Any reason to pick it up besides the possibility of ogling a "femme" Adol?   I bet Dogi would like this game.

Quote from: TronI payed to have a Ys 1&2 t-shirt

You mean you had one done? I was just thinking about that. How did you do it? What kind of place did you go to?

I also wanted to bump this thread. I'm still waiting for pics of the shirts (I hope I don't regret this, haha).

General Gaming / Ikaruga
07/20/2005, 03:28 AM
Is Ikaruga as good a game as the internet says it is? I've been thinking about picking this up (GC version) for a long time and saw it the other day for a reasonable price, 25 bones. A couple things always hold me back though, namely its easier to just play TG16 shooters I haven't got around to finishing like Zonk, and I don't like hard games very much. Should I bite the bullet and go for it?
#44
Quote from: ParanoiaDragonWell, you have about 70 more games then I.......for now heh heh.  Quite a few of the games you have, that I don't, I used to have, & sold, & totally regret, so now I sell no games, for any of my systems, making me creep up on a grand total of 1900 games so far, though my collecting has slowed down in the last few years, I'll eventually hit over 2000, but, it maybe be a few years if ever.

That is a lot! What would you say is your rarest of PCE or any system? Sorry if this has already been discussed I'm too lazy to read the rest of the thread.

Quote from: twor2005Unless you have a Jaguar, I'd go with Raiden yeah.

I always wanted to get Raiden for my Jag but then I broke it by plugging it into an nes power supply. That's what happens when you have too many systems hooked up to one tv and one power strip.

Since I won't be playing that Jaguar version anytime soon i'll probably go with Raiden and get Dead Moon in a couple weeks when I have more spare cash.

You can get the Jag emulator and the Raiden rom, it works nicely...

Which emulator are you using? It won't work on mine.

I've only played up to the first boss but it didn't seem too bad. The business of controlling three characters reminds me of Sonic Heroes, or that side scrolling shooter on the Genesis where you controlled two beautiful anime women. The boomerang guy didn't seem very effective though. The graphics on the first level are barely better than NES quality unfortunately, with maybe only a slightly higher amount of color, though the music wasn't too bad.

The first level boss seemed pretty unique though.

Quote from: NeoFreakwhile we are on the topic of packaging, how many HuCards or CD games came with outer boxes like this? was this just to hold maps and other extras?

IMG

Most Hucards and CDs did come with both those. Late in the systems life they did away with the hard plastic case and just put them in the box in a tray, so games like Air Zonk, Bonk 3, Magical Chase, Samurai Ghost, probably Somer Assault, Time Cruise had no cd style case. SCDs on the other hand never had outer boxes.
#48
Quote from: akamichiI'm pretty sure there were separate versions released but I have no proof.  I do know that the Forgotten Worlds + ave pad 3 pack is labelled as "limited Ave Pad 3 pack" so that would lead me to believe there was a "regular" release without the pad.

So if anybody has a version with the spine card, that would pretty much prove there was a stand alone version.

As a side question, what is the deal with the three button pad? Is button III the same as the run button only in a more user friendly shape? Is it possible to assign I,II,III, select and run all different functions?
#49
I think I might have an extra Dragon Slayer map somewhere if anyone needs one. Maybe I'll just ebay it.
#50
I look forwad to seeing this game packaged up nice and neat and on TZD a few months from now. :o
