12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Thanks for this Platinumfungi. It helped alot when I replaced the caps in my CD player, but now I think my CD Dock might need new caps as well.

Is there a guide that shows how to open up the CD Dock to even get to the PCBs?
It only has like 2 screws, then a bunch of weird fasteners that I'm not sure what to do with, and 2 tabs on the side of the CD mounting part that don't really want to let go. I'm afraid to force it because I don't want to break anything.

Anybody disassemble the CD Dock before?

The laser seems to work, but I'm still not able to get it to read cd's. I already did a full cap replacement, and the gears are fine, but it still just spins with a "0" on the red display. I've been trying to adjust the POTs a little to no avail.  Is there a guide to how to go about adjusting them, I don't want to damage anything?

I really want to get this thing working even if it means paying someone else to fix it. I let my nephew's play with my old NES, and they loved it. They'd really be blown away by this old TG-16.
Thanks for the link, i've spent loads of time searching for these :-)
Same here. I'd been searching deep google intermittently for over a year before I'd run across it. Boy was I happy when the site was actually legit.

Quote from: thesteve on 07/12/2014, 06:01 PMstart with a pressed audio disc
the pots centered
the right pot turn CW till the disc stops, then CCW till it starts again
left pot set for quiet run (no chatter)
then work left to right
once it reads (shows 1) it gets easier
ultimate goal is minimum input current (drive noise)
repeat with CDR once pressed CD plays perfect
Thanks, but it still won't read. :(  I think I might try that guy on ebay, Turbografxfan.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I don't think I want to take a chance on a used one. I actually used to own a couple of the donor CD players listed in the Laundry List thread, but had to replace them when the lasers wore out.  I'll shop around.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the help.

Should I go with the KSS-225A even though, after opening the CD back up, the lens says KSS-220A?

Hello TG-16 enthusiasts,

I have a TGFX-CD unit that I'm trying to repair so I can play my old CD-ROM games again.

Sometime around 1997, I left the CD player on a thick carpet in the basement where I lived, and a huge rainstorm caused some minor flooding. The carpet got soaked, so the CD player got some moisture into the bottom of it. Even after letting it dry, it never worked again.  I had mostly moved on to new systems so I just stored it.

Earlier this year, I unpacked it, and found this site, so I thought I'd try to fix it. I replaced all the Caps with the guide here(many were leaking), and it now:

-Starts up, spins, and shows a "0" on the led display with an audio CD in it

The first time I do it, it will stop by itself after like 30 seconds, but after that it will keep spinning indefinitely, even if I hit stop(which turns off the led display light).

I can see laser light coming from the lens, and it will move along the track, and up, and down.

Any help with a solution to my problem would be appreciated, even if it means sending it to someone to finish fixing it.

Thanks,

Dave
