10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Quote from: Hewitson on 09/03/2012, 03:56 AMYou make a very valid point. Still, 33ms is negligible. Anyone who says they can notice that during gameplay is full of it as far as I'm concerned.
For "normal" games, i agree that its not *too* big of a deal, but on stuff like music games, 30-50ms lag is quite noticeable. Its the difference between "Goods" and "Greats" in scoring.  That's why so many of the recent games have a lag setting/test to adjust for this.

Another thing that people dont mention is the SIZES of these new TVs.  Its been proven that your brain sees and processes the same data faster on a smaller screen than on a larger one.  So there is the "Human Lag" to factor in here to...

What the heck, Im a sucker for punishment.   Add me to the list.   O:)

Main post still lists Bloody Wolf with a bunch of ????.

Here is the info you seek...

Bloody Wolf:  (RUN) is used for special weapons (grenades/flash bombs/flamethrower) and for getting off motorcycles.

Quote from: ccovell on 08/25/2012, 02:16 AMIrem, Hudson, NCS, all had their own volume numbering scheme, all independent of each other.  Pretty meaningless for the small companies, really.

The different colours on TG game spines indicated their genre (Arcade, Shooting, Adventure, Sports, etc...)
So they're pretty pointless unless you sort your collection by publisher (which would be quite... Odd).

Never noticed that about the TG coloring!  Im assuming, of course, for later titles because aren't all early releases orange?
#13
Its not just Hudson games, my:

#1 is Jinmu Denshou by Big Club
#3 is Image Fight by Irem
#4 is Shockman by Masaya

Just to name a few.  Weird...
#14
And another:

(1) GAME TITLE: Turrican
(2) MAP BUTTON III TO: (SELECT)
(3) Function: switches/selects special weapons.

Comes in very handy in heated situations...

Quote from: Mathius on 08/24/2012, 11:02 PMDon't ever come to MGC then. The first time I walked into the vendor hall I nearly walked out with a bag full of financial crisis. That game sucks.
Ummm...  whats MGC?   :?

Probably a stupid question for the Turbo-Vets (or anyone that knows for that matter):

A lot (but not all) of my PC Engine games have a "Vol.#" on them, but there is no rhyme or reason to them that I have discovered.  They dont seem to have anything to do with release order. Are they developer specific?  :-k

And for that matter why do Turbo games have multicolored spines? Aesthetics?

Where were you going to get it from, the reason I ask is as I'm not getting one from Monoprice because they want to charge me almost $40 to ship a cable and I need one, might get one from retrogamecave but the cable is 12 foot, which I think is a bit too long.
From retrogamecave as well.  I dont know why Mono is charging you $40 for shipping to australia.

Heck, if you want me to. I'll gladly buy/ship a set for you.  I can send it priority for only $10-15.

I'd be up for a loose Bonks Revenge.  I actual have a couple of raffles I plan on doing very soon, but you dont have to give me the bonus entry as I'm doing them regardless of win/loss in this.  :)

And before game rating were put into place!  Had the TG been more popular could you imagine the outcry!

Download also has cursing in it as well.

VVVVVV would be right at home on the TG16, if fact it could probably easily be made for the TG16...

Heck, I'm just interested in the whole "I also modified my NEC Avenue Pad so that the directional pad is more accurate (it was simple)" comment.

What exactly was done?  :-k

Several others?  Do tell.
Ditto.

I was under the impression that Altered Beast was the only game that required the 1.0 card.
I could be mistaken, but there were 3 (?) games that needed older system cards (Not necessarily the 1.0 card but older cards in general) to run without crashing or what not. Bonanza Bros was another, and not remembering the other.   :-k

Quote from: Tatsujin on 08/08/2012, 06:59 PMSo I assume you've got some 1.o power :)
Yeah, had to get a 1.0 card to throttle down the Duo-R.   O:)  Never understood why Altered Beast (and several others) freak out with any other card.  :?

Its like the games go: "its... tooo... much... RAM!!!"  *freeze*

Were you in 2B mode?  I've used the Ave 6 as an additional controller for multiplayer matches of Bomberman '93 with no issues.

2B mode *should* work with all games as a normal controller.
6B mode causes lots of games to freak the heck out.

I second this awesome game!  Although it is more of a "running shooter" like monster lair.  Great for on-the-go TE gaming as well!
#38
Aha!  I have a new one!

(1) GAME TITLE: AirZonk
(2) MAP BUTTON III TO: (SELECT)
(3) Function: Fires back thrusters to damage things behind you.

 :)
#39
Congrats to the lucky winners!   =D>
#40
And a few more...

(1) GAME TITLE: SideArms
(2) MAP BUTTON III TO: (RUN)
(3) Function: Brings up weapon select menu

(1) GAME TITLE: Spriggan mk2
(2) MAP BUTTON III TO: (Select)
(3) Function: Toggles between weapons (in order)

(1) GAME TITLE: Forgotten Worlds
(2) MAP BUTTON III TO: (Select)
(3) Function: Rotates character counter-clockwise

(1) GAME TITLE: Gate of Thunder
(2) MAP BUTTON III TO: (Select)
(3) Function: Speed adjust (3 levels)

(1) GAME TITLE: Riot Zone
(2) MAP BUTTON III TO: (RUN)
(3) Function: Desperation  Move

(1) GAME TITLE: Ys 1&2
(2) MAP BUTTON III TO: (Select)
(3) Function: Brings up Menu screen

That does it for me, thats all the games I have that are TBF.  :)

So, I'll leave you with a GamePro style "Pro-Tip:"  8)
"Set Button III to RUN and the switch to hold to automatically have slow-motion in ANY* game!"
(*requires game uses RUN for pause, if game uses SELECT, set button III to SELECT instead)

Thats the beauty of shooters,  They can not only be played (satisfactorily) in short bursts, but some can even be beaten in about 1/2 hour.  :)

Although a nice speedrun of Strider is also great fun in under 30 minutes.  :)

Quote from: esteban on 08/02/2012, 10:34 AMNow, someone help clarify the details for Ys III and Bloody Wolf...
Cant help with Ys III, as I dont have it yet, but I can clarify Bloody Wolf.  (RUN) is used for grenades and getting on/off motorcycles.

There's actually an arcade stick put out by innovation years ago called the Multi-System Arcade stick and its a full 6 button joystick with actual arcade-y micro-switch parts inside that can swapped out for other components.  AND it works on PCE, NeoGeo, GEn, & SNES.  Just got done modding one up a bit to my tastes and it works fantastically!   :D

Quote from: OldRover on 07/31/2012, 09:53 PMTurrican is a game of gluttony and memory...
I think that's why if you didn't own this game originally back in the day it's hard to ever get into now.  When you had a TurboGrafx and only 4 games and one was Turrican there was a lot more incentive to trudge through it.  If somebody just picked up Keith Courage today they'd go what a  pile, but I think it holds a special place in many peoples hearts because it was the only game many probably had to play for a while and so we were forced to play it and because of that, in a way we have fond memories of it.  Well, some of us :)
Thats the most truthful assessment of "nostalgia" ever spoken!  =D>

Although, I think sometimes being "forced" (so to speak) to trudge through a game makes you see some good (or even great!) things about a game that you may not have ever discovered had you only played for a little bit.

Target Earth (another ridiculously hard game) is one of my all time favorite games of all time, and I HATED it when I first got it.  But after going through it and learning all its little kinks & quirks, it became a game that has never left (nor ever will) my possession.  :)

Quote from: turbokon on 07/30/2012, 12:17 AMHey Kaijuboy, I did this myself not to long ago. I left the overlay on the controllers and it turns out just fine.
Thats great news!  I've got a cream colored controller that needs some love!  :)

Guess its off to Sally Beauty supply tomorrow!

SignOfZeta knows his stuff!   =D>

All versions really need a joystick to really shine.  :D
#48
A few more:

(1) GAME TITLE: Golden Axe
(2) MAP BUTTON III TO: (Select)
(3) Function: Magic Spell

(1) GAME TITLE: Martial Champion
(2) MAP BUTTON III TO: (Run)
(3) Function: High attack

(1) GAME TITLE: MetamorJupitor
(2) MAP BUTTON III TO: (Select)
(3) Function: Morph ship form  (3 forms)

All 3 of these games greatly benefit from a 3 button controller.

More to come...  :)

Well, If Im allowed to toss my name in for one, I'd love to get one.   =P~

If not, I'll continue waiting until Im allowed to buy one...  O:)

PCE to me because it featured more Genesis like gameplay while having a bigger color palette (but one that isnt blurry as the SNES one is).

This is of course assuming you have a 6B controller or joystick!  (although it is strangely fun in short bursts on the TE, in that awkwardly challenging sort of way!)  O:)
