As far as I'm concerned, only cowboys use glue.
Yep, this one is up for new a-hole of the week I see.....
I might be an a-hole, but at least my work is of a professional standard.

Quote from: Drakon on 09/14/2012, 07:03 AMOr problems like this can happen from a wire coming loose because a lot of "modders" think for some reason that using hot glue to hold a wire firmly in place looks "horrible" and "un-professional".
It does... A correctly soldered wire of decent gauge should provide a sufficient mechanical connection. If you open up a professionally made piece of electronic equipment you don't see hot glue all over the place.

Quote from: Hewitson on 09/03/2012, 02:42 AMThe lag on a modern HDTV of decent quality is NOT going to be even slightly noticable. My Panasonic plasma has a response time of 0.001 milliseconds.
The LCD component itself might have a lag that small, but its impossible for an SD signal to have that little lag displayed on an HDTV. The least lag of any line doubler is an XRGB series box, and even they have a lag of one field (ie: half a frame) which is 16ms. Most (probably all) scalers built into TVs are going to lag by at least an entire frame (which is 33ms) since they need to wait for an entire frame to be displayed before they can scale it and then send to the LCD, which will also take some time.

That .001ms time Panasonic quoted is probably the time it takes for the actual pixel to change color once the voltage reaches it. This is great for reducing motion blur and ghosting. There is a lot more to an HDTV signal path that that though.
You make a very valid point. Still, 33ms is negligible. Anyone who says they can notice that during gameplay is full of it as far as I'm concerned.

Of course, you will certainly get a better looking picture with a CRT.

Thanks for the replies. I am glad to know that the caps are prone to leakage because I was considering buying a unit with no sound, thinking that a simple recap would probably get it up and running again.

I have a CD player from the early 90's that still functions as good as when it was new.

Since posting my wanted ad for a Core Grafx unit I have decided that a Duo is definitely the way to go. I'd prefer the original Duo as I think it's a much nicer looking unit, but I am worried about the countless posts I've read regarding it's reliability.

Does this come down to just the capacitors or is there more to it than that? Calling a system unreliable because it's capacitors wear out is a bit like calling something unreliable because the batteries have gone flat.

Please let me know of anything I should be aware of.

Thanks

TG16 cases for TG16 games? Who'd have thought!

An investment is generally something that is going to increase in value. With video games that isn't necessarily the case, it could well be worth less than you paid for it if you decide to sell it in the future.

The cheapest CG on ebay at the moment is $60 and it doesn't come with an AV cable. There is a complete system for $75, I feel that these are overpriced.

I would certainly be willing to consider a Duo if one was available for a reasonable cost. Are spare parts readily available for the CD drives in these things?

Are these systems hard to come by? Would I be better off looking for a standard PCE plus RF Booster or Interface Unit?

Buy/Sell/Trade / Wanted: Core Grafx System
08/13/2012, 04:09 AM
Hi there,

I've been curious about the PCE/TG16 systems for the last 20 years. I've decided it's finally time for me to get myself a machine and explore some of the great games the system has to offer. I am looking to buy a Core Grafx system.

Thanks in advance.
