Localization Legend "Supper the Subtitler" has "joined the club" in being targeted for CD-pressings by bootleg master Tobias/PCEWorks! His projects like Private Eyedol, Galaxy Fräulein Yuna 1 & 2, etc. are now being sold on Chinese factory-pressed CDROMs...

Hear, hear !

While I do like the concept for this project, personally would have rather seen the money spent on getting a real english translation and publishing rights for one game.

Bootlegging PCE games is not nearly as complex/time consuming as localizing a game (let alone securing legal permission).

(1) A mediocre graphic designer with some experience dealing with printers can easily bootleg a game.

There are a lot of folks in that pool.

VS.

(2) A team of people with the requisite skills to competently localize/translate a PCE game and issue an English-language patch?

Not too many folks can do this.

Sadly.
Exactly, I started learning more and more about programming the Turbo 18 months ago and just now can get a sprite to walk across the screen without having to reference some literature for every command lol. Much OBEY respect for the people with the knowledge and skill required.

Bootlegging is simple in comparison to the skills required for making us new games. I personally would rather see resources spent on the next Ys IV, Rondo of Blood, Xak III project. This guy is simply making a buck off others work all the while not offering anything in return content wise.

Of course this is just my opinion.. :D

never played Ballastix, Falcon or Gunboat and after remembering the screen shots I can remember why. Gunboat on the Amiga was fun but I knew that it would be a stinker for the turbo

Kiaidan, fun game and the characters are likeable

darkwing duck should win this in a landslide. One of the worst games I have ever played for any console....imo lol

Quote from: guest on 10/06/2014, 06:53 PMDon't you wish you could hear what PCE music would sound like if it didn't have a shitty 8-bit NES sound chip?

If Hudson hadn't wasted the game on a dead system, it could have sounded like this on the legendary SNES:
Think I have heard better farts

Just played the demo and I love it :)  Of course would love to see a version hit the Duo

Quote from: CGQuarterly on 04/19/2013, 12:10 PMApril 18th chall forever be known in my house as "Dia de Los Neo Geos."

Received 3 packages yesterday, all of which I've been anxiously anticipating.

IMG

Package 1: CMVS (w/ power supply and RGB cable) from Xian Xi.  Unibios 3.1, stereo mod, battery mod.  Got a nice deal on it because I didn't need a video encoder board since I only play on a PVM.

Package 2: 2 Neo controllers from a buddy of mine.  Traded him for some custom Xbox controllers that I made a while back.

Package 3: This is the one that I was really worried about.  I broke one of the cardinal rules of Craigslist.  I did a non-local deal.  Found a guy down in LA selling some MVS games, one of which was NTM (my most wanted game).  So I figured I'd e-mail the guy and feel him out.  Anyway, the deal went smoothly and I got my games.  NTM looks practically brand new, and more importantly isn't a boot.

IMG

The AES stick already got SANWA'ED!  New buttons (obviously) and a new ball top.  HUGE improvement.  Eventually I want an AI stick, but this stick is great for now.

Chris
Very nice find.

Personally have went the long distance CL route a few times and so far so good.

it did get a real small homebrew print run, i've got a copy.
Nice. I remember reading about it a year or so ago.

Well i feel it will be pretty cool if the emulation is done good and the hardware is not crap. Wireless controllers (junk), HDMI support, Slick GUI. Would rather pay more for a quality system with good controllers.

When you think about it if you wanted a direct clone of the Snes or Genny would it not be entirely unpractical ? Who is going to manufacture the 65c816, Sony's SPC700 etc.

If they make a Turbo version sign me up. The Duo isn't getting any younger and is becoming more expensive, harder to find everyday.

Quote from: MotherGunner on 04/15/2013, 02:08 PMHi Guys, aside from the obvious (which is money), does anyone know why/how some companies are able to create retro hardware?

Discuss.
I think there are 2 main methods.  1) you can design a system with a powerful CPU, and have it run emulation software.  Or 2) you can reproduce the original hardware inside an FPGA chip.
System on a chip ?

They were not as high profile as the releases by NG:Devteam, but I heard they are pretty good.

Still, I see your point.  The need for great shooters on dreamcast has been satisfied, lets hope these talented devs will move on to other genres.
Would be cool if these guys could fix Geist Force.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 04/17/2013, 02:02 AMIMO 3D platformers aren't very fun most of the time, even when done by very talented people. Aside from Nintendo stuff...there are very few.

Could a homebrew team even begin to deliver something as good as Sonic Adventure 2, a game I consider barely playable due to the amount of time the player spends staring at a wall and swearing at the camera?

It seems like 3D platformers are really fucking hard to make.
Agree 3-D platformers as a whole suck and the only exceptions I can think of is Mario Galaxy 1&2. Can't really say much about Mario 64 as I only played it about 10 minutes and decided that controller sucked for me LOL.

If you guys have not tried Gunlord would advise it if you enjoy Turrican style games. Ebay price is ridiculous but imo is better than paying 60 for another FPS.

Quote from: guest on 04/16/2013, 04:22 PMMan why doesn't someone make a cool 3D game for Dreamcast.
Would rather see a cool 2D platformer but yeah it has turned into the schump machine.

Would imagine the lack of programmer's is a issue.

lol true. I Asked the developers for a PC Engine port :)

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 04/15/2013, 08:01 PMI don't want anything remade in the typical PS3 full 3D tutorial laden bullet time QTE 120 hours of gameplay bullshit modern way of doing things. No achievements either.

I would like to see flashy remakes/sequels of Valis or Cosmic Fantasy though, more like in the style of the 32-bit era though. High res 2D remakes would be terrific if they used 2D animation with original chara designs for the cinemas, etc.  No polygons, no moe.

Understand those retro Snes, Genesis systems are horrible.  But who would not pay 200 bucks for real hardware that is modernized just slightly ? Better controllers, HDTV support being just a sample.
#32
Quote from: guest on 04/15/2013, 04:06 PMA dedicated clone would likely retail for more as well.
Which would be fine by me. As good as Mednafen on the Wii is nothing beats using the real hardware imo.

The very reasons you mentioned is why the Neo-Geo redo was so lame imo, if it was real hardware capable of playing the real Deal would have been worth it or more.

One thing is for sure...Retro or Collector gamers will pay for a quality product.

It wasnt horrible :P but it had some bugs and that is what this redux is supposed to fix. Buyers of the original get this one free :) Wish Bethesda would offer the same.

Quote from: Mishran on 04/11/2013, 06:59 PMGotta bump this thread cause I finally got around to soft modding my Wii. I haven't messed around with it alot yet, but it was super simple and quick. Installed a few emus and some roms on a USB stick. Works like a charm. Gotta thank ya Bernie for bringing this to my attention. I've been using the Wiimote/Nunchuk to play the games since I don't have an alternative at the moment. How well does the Wii classic pad work for this? Might just pick one up used if I can it.
The Classic controller is great for Snes and Genesis stuff. Prefer the Wii mote for Nes or TG16.
#45
Far as getting Turbo stuff here in Ky you had 2 options in 1989, order through Sears or make the drive to Toy's R Us in Louisville (90 miles). They had tons of stuff at launch and really until late 90 or 91 was the only place to pick stuff up. Many fond memories of few of us guys driving up there to pick up a new title or 2 :)

Sadly also remember the Duo's last days as I picked up Parasol Stars, Night Creatures, New Adventure Island for 10.00 bucks each :(

Quote from: esteban on 04/09/2013, 10:11 PMMEMO TO ALL JAPANOPHILES: Suck my left one. The North American boxart was a GIFT FROM THE GAMING GODS. In real life, nobody looked at cover art for more than a few seconds because they FLIPPED THE BOX OVER TO LOOK AT SCREENSHOTS.

SCREENSHOTS determined whether a game was going to be purchased (in conjunction with magazine reviews).

HATIN' ON COVERART is silly.

FURTHERMORE: All consoles were plagued with poor coverart.

Dig up one of the old threads where I defend North American cover art. SUCK MY LEFT ONE, Japanophiles.
LOL, well yeah it was better than the Master System.

If I am not mistaken was it not Midway who approached TTI about Mortal Kombat ? Not too mention the Duo was releasing at the same time in N.A. If the Duo was to gain any steam that would have been the time. Then MAYBE TTI could have brought even more games :)

Have to spend money to make it

Box art was/is still hideous lol.

Have to believe that if the Duo had launched along with Mortal Kombat as an exclusive history would have been different.
