the stick arrived yesterday; its pretty sweet. the thing i like about it is the size. i put my hand in the photo so you can see how small this thing. its also got a nice bit of weight to it with a metal backing and rubber feet. [doesnt slide around at all on the table] the stick rotates quietly and good feel to the buttons.

p.s. upon opening, the packaging had that nice musty old AES cart smell. i wish they sold that smell for your car.
#3
yeah, ive already posted there. got a copy of sengoku on the way, looking for the other two now.
#4
looking for these complete, in very good to mint condition. thanks.
#5
yeah; but just the fact that its NOS makes it a bit more exciting.
#6
it looks like my order went through in time; ill post my impressions once it arrives.
#8
yes; i know, i know. I just want to finish this game ok...

so ive only gotten a chance to play like an hour over the past 3 days, but ive been doing pretty well finding the items like the gun, and wrench. trying to figure out what area to tackle first. i found the key at the bottom of the "house" dungeon basement, then on my way up, there is this huge rolling juggernaut with skulls and spikes and then a wall appears on the other side of me. touching the spikes is instant death... but ive been trying to punch the thing as it rolling backwards. anyone got a good exploit on this bitch of a thing. do i need the gun first and then back track?
#9
i listened; and i know what you mean Keranu. I just think it's kind of distracting, and just feels like the music as a whole is floating around your head. I could imagine getting ill if every track had phase-shifting.

Buy/Sell/Trade / i'm really pissed off
09/17/2006, 02:00 AM
thats funny, they actually told you what he ordered.
#11
it uses a rune system that you have to use to cast spells right? i was reading that some people thought it was pretty cool? is this what you're talking about?
#12
I just ordered this game because i love dungeon crawlers that dont hold your hand the whole damn way. this is looking like eye of the beholder to me; but i'm having a really hard time finding any reviews or screenshots of the game. I read somwhere that you dont keep equipment between dungeons, but you do keep stats, and that you have to recruit new guys between dungeons...but thats about all i know. If this game offers up good puzzles and forces me to draw out maps on paper, i will be happy. anyone who can give me a little more detail about the game, thanks in advance.
#13
i have the remote version too, what tv are you guys playing on, im totally anal about the signal quality and i actually went back and forth between plugging my 360 DIRECTLY into my tv's component, and then THROUGH the pelican, i did this several times back and forth to test [when i originally bought it] and I didnt see ANY differences. were you guys getting some blurryness or what?

Buy/Sell/Trade / i'm really pissed off

son of a bitch, if he bought everything im going to be so pisssed off, i was just planning on making an order.

i love all the little details, like in the lake / water zone, when your are coming out of the water into the canal / castle area, and theres this little dude with a big hammer, he smashes the ground so all the water drains out of the hall way. my favorite parts in general are when the last two layers of parallax scrolling fade to black and then load something in like castle walls or rock details as you are entering an indoor area.

some of my favorite enemies to fight are the small wizards that circle themselves in fireballs, and also that big blue flying crabbish thing [you fight for the second time but re-colored] in zone 7.

i think overall the forest zone is my favorite, i love the art and usually forests areas are my favorite in any game, period. but in the case of lords of thunder, this stage also has the most amazing music ever.
#16
Quoteas a hint for the final area, don't bother purchasing any powerups except maybe a shield and elixir...you'll see why. :)

thanks man; i made it back to the end of zone 7, killed the wall lazer, defeated the boss [who i actually thought was pretty easy once you know his pattern, and figure out how to keep him jumping in the center]

your tip came in handy for the final boss; I used the earth armor and completely ripped him apart. I've read so many places people say the earth armor is useless and weak, but i think its the best armor in the game if you are good enough to power the suit up. I use it in the forest and snow zones all the way through to the boss, works great againts the unicorn boss, and againts the large dude with the tentacles and the rapid fire lazers at the end of forest zone [IMHO he is the hardest / most unpredictable boss in the game] well thanks again, pretty damn proud of myself right now. [dont even think i used a continue]
#17
cool, thanks for the comments guys. hope to get this game soon

CrackTiger, that map you made is awesome. I'll check it out if I get stuck...is there an in-game map also?

General Gaming / "why did I sell that!?"
09/14/2006, 10:03 PM
you ever make a sale/trade along time ago that you regret today? well, i never sell any of my games; but when I was younger [5th grade] I was short for cash and I posted an ad in my town's newspaper for some genesis games I wanted to sell so I could buy more games... alien storm, biohazzard battle, decap attack, and evander hollifield boxing.

I got a good amount of money for them, but I miss alien storm SO FUCKING BAD. I loved that game to death and I just dont know why I sold it. sure you say i can buy them again right? i guess, but my copy was so minty perfect and i have so many memories with that game, it sounds completely retarded but I wish i could get MY copy back, isnt that insane?

i'll be 25 years old in 2 months; and to this day, every now and again i'll hear a whisper in my ears "alien.........storm".

son of a bitch.

considering i have a small ass apartment, i'm pretty happy with
my console per square inch ratio. I highly recommend pelican's
system selector pro, it has eight component and nine s-video jacks.
[I have six systems setup right now that I can play without any
removing or un-plugging of cables] think im going to swap the cube
out for my saturn soon though, i just dont have enough shelf space.

well i know i'm late to the party with this one; holy shit this game is pretty awesome. totally worthy of its hype. I had today off from work, I have been playing since like 11am... I have just about got every level memorized. In zone 7, i've made it all the way up through the swinging gauntlets and have almost defeated that wall with the 3 crystals inside, ive been able to destroy all but the last. I hope to take it down on my next run through; but i just had couple questions. is the wall laser the boss of 7? and is zone 8 also a full level? one more thing i'm trying to figure out is where the hit detection on landis is... is it just his head and upper torso?

why dont the level names match between in-game and the manual? are those the original pc-engine names?

btw, the background music track for the forest zone is by far my favorite...anyone else think so?
#21
I was watching that VHS promo quicktime that was posted in another thread and was impressed with the look of shapeshifter...is it safe to say it plays along the lines of super metrioid but with an altered beast vibe? thanks.
#22
i really like the look of the warrior sprite from the arcade and md versions; althought i think most of the PCE sprites are drawn much nicer, like the pig goblin.
#23
here is an in-depth summary of differences that nodtveidt posted a few months back in a different Cadash thread:

Quote from: OldRoverAlright, I'll do as much as I can here while I have some time.

Cadash is a side-scrolling experience-based platformer (in other words, an action RPG). The basic premise of the game is to go rescue a princess.  You are given four characters to choose from, each with their own strengths and weaknesses:

The Fighter has excellent offense and defensive ability. He is moderately agile and gains experience at a decent rate. He cannot use magic of any kind, and his attack range is somewhat limited.
The Mage has low offense and defense with average agility. He gains experience the fastest of all the characters, and he is the only character that can use offensive magic which will eventually become extremely powerful. His melee attack is no better in range than the Fighter though.
The Priest has good offense and average defense. Her agility is rather low, and she gains experience slowly. Her attack range is excellent, and she is the only one who can use healing and protective magics.
The Ninja has average attack and defensive ability, but his agility is very high and his attack range is the greatest, considering he uses shurikens. He gains experience at an average rate.

The maximum experience level for al characters is level 20. Each character gains HP and MP (plus other stats) at different rates.

The gameplay is pretty cut-and-dry platforming with the added twist of experience gathering. Each enemy you defeat gains you experience points, and most also drop moneybags which you can use later on to buy new equipment and items. The items vary from version to version, but there are a couple which are the same in all versions, which are the herb (heals 10hp when you run out of hp) and the antidote (cures poison...becomes VERY important in the 3rd area which is filled with poisonous nasties). There are a total of five areas to conquer, each with different environments and enemies to learn.

Now, for a rundown of some of the differences between the arcade, the PCE, and the Genesis versions:

The arcade version can have two machines linked together, for two two-player teams (four players at once). This isn't possible on the other versions.
The arcade version, being a quarter-muncher, had to have a way of making money, so the game was timed, with the timer being modified when a new world was first entered, or a timeclock was purchased. Neither the PCE nor Genesis versions have this feature.
The arcade version will show you your stats when you enter a door, or when you stand idle for a moment. The Genesis version will show you your stats when you pause. The PCE version never shows you your stats.
The arcade version and the Genesis version allow you three letters to make your name. The PCE version allows four letters, and includes a couple of secret codes.
The Genesis version, as stated before, lacks two characters: the priest and the ninja. The arcade and PCE versions have all four characters playable.
The arcade and Genesis versions have very similar graphics. The PCE version does not try to copy the arcade graphics, which some people like (for example: me) and some do not.
In the arcade and Genesis versions, you could be resurrected if you died; another quarter in the arcade, and a special item in the Genesis version. In the PCE version, if you die, it's game over instantly, no resurrection possible (unless playing 2-player, in which one player can resurrect the other at an inn).
The PCE version adds an additional key to the second world.
Characters gain noticeable changes to their movement speed in the PCE version as they gain levels. This is much more subtle in the other versions.
The arcade and Genesis versions feature hidden items that can be attacked at various points in the areas. The PCE version doesn't have these, but instead has a number of extra treasure chests.
The Genesis version has a bit of censorship in it (the mermaid scene) which is in no way censored in the PCE version or the arcade version.
In the PCE version, the mermaid scales are an item you actually pick up. It is automatically given to you in the other versions without having to pick it up.
The PCE version is missing the Mage's level 20 magic spell.
The Genesis version has the same screen warp effect as the arcade for area transitions. This wasn't implemented in the PCE version, a simple fade is used instead.
The arcade and Genesis versions have the same cheap-looking warp effect on the flames in the title logo. The PCE version uses much nicer looking flames instead.
In the PCE version, huge hits cause tremendous throwback of your character. This doesn't happen in the other versions.
The "mini-me" character (I forget its name) that can be found in the fourth area of the arcade version is missing in both the PCE and Genesis versions. This is a little version of your character that sits on top of your head and rushes out to attack enemies when you press the attack button. It only lasts a few minutes but it's neat.
In the arcade version, all inns get more expensive each time; if you stay at the same inn twice, the second time will cost more than before. The other versions have set prices, although they get more expensive as you progress through the areas.
The arcade and Genesis versions have equipment names in the shops. This is missing from the PCE version.
The PCE version has certain hidden platforms in the final area that are not present in the other versions.
The final boss in the arcade and Genesis versions are alike. The PCE handles this differently. Hard to judge which method is better, but the arcade and Genesis versions have much longer final boss fights.

There are other subtle differences as well (such as the ball and chain statues in the fifth area) and I could spend a day listing them, but these are the major differences that anyone who has played all three would see.

All in all though, the PCE version is an intentional break from the arcade version; it has a lot of features all its own and comes off being a different game overall. It's definately worth getting and playing.

sometimes the RFs have a toggle switch for channel 3 or channel 4, do you have it mismatched? like your RF is set to channel 4, but your tv is on channel 3? The fact that you are hearing music makes me think its just some issue with your set up and not your system.

I finally got some time to sit down with Cadash and play some singleplayer; I BELIEVE that I made it all the way to the last boss? [ Evil dude pretends to be the king in the throne room, and then turns into a dragon? ring a bell?]

it was pretty awesome; I did really enjoy the dungeon area where you are fighting the zombies [ i know someone had mentioned this in another thread and said how cool it was; they were right] cool lightning effects too.

I think when i was about to fight the boss at the castle, there were two doorways, one went straight to the boss, and then there was another behind a gate, at first i approached the one behind the gate but then i second guessed my self and went through the first door which forced the red dragon on me when i had very minimal health. anyway, i guess i was just wondering if the other door gives you an opportunity to recover health and buy more herbs before the last encounter [is it the end?] Thanks.

hey if we are going to talk boxes, im sorry but the neo takes the cake. the thing is like a meter wide; and it was just a giant replica of the system itself.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Turbo DUo controller

Quote from: pixeljunkie
Quote from: GUTSAren't the guts of the controllers the same?  Can't you just order a TZD converted TG16 controller and put the guts in your Duo controller case?

brilliant, seriously.

What he said.

yeah, except that you have to HAVE another duo controller case.
#28
Digi.K,

try starting a new game, because I'm pretty sure the first thing that the game does is ask you to define how many players with the select button; [i believe it appears very quickly in the left most dialogue box] if you dont do it right from the beginning, i dont think you can just add players in once you are already walking around the tavern.

Hey Neo Rasa,

whats up man?, this is Ukyo from the neo-geo.com old school crew. i havent been around many boards myself lately, but i'm glad to see some familiar faces.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Turbo DUo controller
09/08/2006, 10:01 AM
so few duo controllers show up on ebay, and when they do, they are in horrible condition and the seller is asking for ass loads of money. I was getting so sick of it, so i just went to turbo zone direct and ordered a new converted turbo pad for my duo. it kind of bothers me that its not a duo pad, but it was only 20 bucks, and it's new.
#31
how does this version of Double Dragon II compare with others? does it support two players? It seems turbo games are famous for cutting out 2 player co-op in brawlers that supported it originally.
#32
Quote from: OldRover"The Axe is back with twice the force and twice the fury of 1989's Game Of The Year!"

I wrote that from memory so it may not be 100% accurate but yes...they did indeed write something along those lines on the back of the LA2 box. :D

nodtveidt,

I checked the back of the box last night, you had it word for word.
#33
yeah stevek666,

there were actually 3 long style boxes for PSX around launch time. there was the twisted metal "all cardboard" case, which didnt have a hinge, it was like a "photograph" of beveled plastic hinge that was added right into the box art. [everything was just one piece of cardboard, no definition between front, spine, and back.

then there was the resident evil "plastic cardboard" combo [maybe "loaded" had this style case as well, cant remember] it was all cardboard but the the front and back were attached to an opaque black plastic spine with beveling details. [so the case could lay completely flat when opened]

then there was the later, all plastic one a la Warhawk / Kileak: the DNA imperative. and most came with a soft foam block that would sit on the cd.

pretty weird

trivia: which was the only US saturn game that didnt have a logo or text printed on the spine?
#34
I scored a complete boxed copy of Legendary Axe II a few months ago at "Game Dude" in North Hollywood. I'm not sure that they have any more boxed copies, but maybe they have another comeplete one in jewel case. You should look them up; I think you can order from them online. BTW what has the game been going for lately?
#35
Looking forward to it.

It was pretty funny actually guys...with all the thousands of people attending E3, I was exiting the Nintendo Wii booth as I walked past someone who looked strangely familiar,  I could'nt place the face at first; but I approached him, and it turned out to be Aaron. It was pretty cool, and we got to chat for a bit. Nice meeting you again, Aaron.
#36
my dracula x was included in a larger lot of games that I bought with a brand new boxed duo, so i wasnt going to complain, ill pick up the spine card if I ever see it up for auction.
#37
hizaygizirlz; just updating you. I finished cherry tower, and now im heading east...there is this long gauntlet that you have to run with shit loads of spawning spiders, dwarves, and mountain men. I didnt have much time to play last night, its not that tough, but i'm being impatient and trying to rush through to the dungeon entrance. I'm going to take it slow next time...also, I didnt realize that dude opens the gate next to his house, so to get to that east area i was going ...through the rock maze, into water dungeon, all the way through that, through the second rock maze, and THEN to the gauntlet area in the east forest. [when in fact all i had to do was go west from the castle and then up one screen.]
#38
Thanks for all that great info; I really appreciate it. With all those tiny differences, the ports of Cadash reminds me of when they ported Sunset Riders to the consoles, I could probably write a term paper on that. "bury me ...with my... money." Thanks again.
#39
Quote from: KeranuI skip the cardboard boxes myself, and I'm a collector. The jewel cases are definitely nice enough for me and I'll only make exceptions to get cardboard boxes for games I really care for (like Ys :D ). Also for Japanese collecting, I generally skip spine and registration cards.

registration cards are one thing, but i need the spine card. I still dont have a spine for my dracula x, and it haunts me every night before i go to sleep.
#40
yeah a detailed description would be awesome; thanks. I was reading a little bit about differences between the PCE and the MegaDrive [how MD only has 2 selectable characters] and about how the Coin-op had a timer. I would love to know more.
#41
yeah; that ebay seller has a really nice Neutopia II right now for $109. while this seller seems to have somewhat high prices, he lists every game in great detail, down to every scratch / pages edges, etc. I've been buying quite a bit from him since, he has some great items; dont know how long i can keep it up though.
#42
It's been about a year since I stopped buying neo games [i'm not saying im DONE, lol] but now that I've moved on to Turbo stuff for a while, starting fresh, I'm trying to buy all my games complete with box, which I'm finding pretty much doubles the asking price for any game...anyone else all about the complete games? I just cant help myself, but even as a collector who has spent hundreds on single AES carts, this is different because it seems like the box's are much harder to get, especially in nice condition...so you end up paying out your ass for just the cardboard. aahhhh; I do it to myself I guess.
#43
just bought this in an auction; looks like a pretty solid game. i'm loving the look of the character sprites, there are different armor sets you can equip that appear on your character?
#44
haha, no its ok. I'm playing as the warlock actually, but I probably should be playing the warrior since I'm soloing. However, I enjoy the challenge this way. I'm going to try and go through the tower tonight.

BTW, how long of a game is DE? how about DE2?
#45
Off-Topic / E3 this year?
05/01/2006, 10:13 PM
anyone on the forums going to be at E3 this year?
#46
Thanks for the tips; I was just able to defeat him. I'm in the tower now with that girl that you mentioned. Thanks again.
#47
how do you defeat the Tiger boss in the Water Dungeon ? He just rushes me and my 5 lives are gone before I know it. [Playing single player] Thanks. BTW, this game rules. There is so much personality in these little character sprites, and they animate quite well. I think its hilarous that the thief is a total fat ass.
#48
were all early japanese releases labeled with a volume number in the upper right of the manual? when did they stop? I noticed this in a few auctions...
#49
Thanks.
#50
I found an import Super CD-ROM2 game at a local shop. The front of the manual had a man and woman on the cover against a space backdrop. The main title was in large characters, but in smaller text it said in english "Space Adventure" and then "II" in another location. The spine was green at the top, and black. Can someone help me identify this game? I did some searches and couldnt find anything. [I didnt buy it because I wasnt sure if it was a heavy text adventure or something] Any help would be appreciated; thanks.

Edit: Sorry, I think this should be moved to the PC-Engine forum.
