@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

the start sequence is
1 center laser
2 power laser (wait for mirror)
3 spin disk (wait for TOC)
4 cd mode start track 1, data mode start track 2

if the laser is not centering its failing at step 1
hrm. so it should be centering laser then trying to focus.  Good to know.  Some other notes had mentioned it needed to focus before spinning, but this order makes more sense.

Hey Everyone. I'm not quite sure which area to troubleshoot next.  I'm thinking dead laser, but this is what I've done so far.
Both my Suitcase PCE CD system and my TG16 are exhibiting the same problem.  I just took them out of my closet after sitting there a few years.

I can boot them up fine with Hucards.  When I try to play a CD, the drive makes Zero noise and just doesnt spin.
-The gears are fine on both systems.
-I can manually power the laser motor and the cd motor.
-If I move the laser position, it doesnt try to move itself.
-Press run, LED displays PC like it's trying to load a game.
-I haven't done a Pot swap because they all test fine, but ya never know.

Sound like a laser or is this another issue.

in general, the screen will have terrible contrast.  it will always have a white washed out look until you start doing some screen modes.  The backlight mod helps, but I wish there was a simple screen swap like on the Nomad.

it doesnt help having beautiful HD screens in our pockets.  Switching to a retro console from a smart phone is a shock.

TVii has saved me endless headaches with the girlfriend.  I think this feature is only going to get better in the future.

Consoles and physical media as we know it are going away.  They will probably make it partially through this next generation.
After that, I imagine most content will be digital download and cloud based.  Most of the business world is switching to cloud based software, and i see the games market doing the same thing.
Cherish these last few consoles.  Onlive is ahead of it's time and will probably die out.  But history will know it was the beginning of the end.

Feedback / Compatabilty guide error

could be for HK systems and the like, but it did work on my GT.

With the price of US converters, at times, i felt the need to point out it will not work for US system.  Luckily i was able to find a use for mine.

Whatever the function, it does NOT work in a US system.

One quick thing i noticed:

Under USA released converters, you have the WH-301 listed.

the WH-301 is actually a converter to play US hucards on a PCE.  Even the image on the device clearly shows this.

I purchased one many years ago to use as a US converter, and it did not work.  Luckily i chopped the sides off, and plugged it into my GT.

I am thumbing through the RPG's i have for the duo and i was wondering if there was any good ones i missed.
I have Neutopia I, II and Cosmic Fantasy II.  PLus all the Y's. Any good imports that are considered easily playable, or any domestic RPG's that i missed?

PC-FX Discussion / Re: The Next Turbo?

while NEC is a big name in chip making now, i do not think it has the resources to enter the console market.  I know the japanese market would rather buy an NEC product that MS any day.  The problem i see lies int eh loss they will have to take in order to gain a footing in the cut throat industry.

Recall the numbers that MS is posting entering the market.  They have lost over 1 billion dollars just trying to get their foot in the door.  Granted they did not expect to make money with their first gen system, but that is shloads to lose.  NEC does not have a billion US $ to lose.  NEC would have to get the big guns out to make such a move.

Gawd i hope they do tho...

it is possible for them to just be developing hardware for the other companies too ya know.

remember it was NEC that made the processor for the DC.  Hardware research does not denote that company releasing a system.  Hell, matshushita has made some $$$ from just dev'ing hardware.
